I feel like Mark Lanegan didn’t get enough credit or attention compared to Cobain or Vedder or Chris Cornell, but man, his voice was pure gold. One of the best singers ever imho.
No comparison. Kurt and Vedder caught all the spotlight, but Lanegan was out there doing the winding sheet. Makes Nirvana and Pearl Jam look like pop rock.
@@EMPANAO321He was almost shy - quiet and stoic - when I met him. Hearing his voice is to me what I imagine going to church must be like for a believer.

I've never shared this video with anyone, I come back to it time and time again to remind me that there are things worth living for I saw Mark dozens of times over the years, met him a handful, I gave up trying to collect everything he recorded long ago my heart aches tonight
I managed to stick with the collecting. Including the song for a children's book where he was a bear singing about his sneakers. Well worth looking up. Ends in a terrible pun, shows how he was so much more than that dark presence on the stage. I'll miss him dearly.
@@gijswitdouck6929 I never knew where to draw the line, like do you get the Manic Street Preachers album with his cameo? I've got both versions of his Christmas album and was always on the look out for the bootlegs he sold of gigs I was at

I visited my friend in Seattle in 2000 and we went to see Mark Lanegan. It was an amazing set. The thing that stuck with me was when he took a hit of his cigarette and said, "It's not the smokin', it's the singin'". The crowd went crazy.

When something we enjoy is lost, we value more freedom and we know that we are more than a grain of sand in this immense universe, great memories of this beautiful time and to think that wonderful voices are gradually silenced in the sunset of time. RIP Mark Lanegan.
Yeah, I was just listening to him w/Mad Season. At his much younger self, “The Black Book of Fear” being my fav esp.lyricism & velvety rich baritone vocals. “Slip Away” makes me cry every time. 🚬&booze will effect any1s vocals esp.over yrs of using. Set that aside, but as we all age, our vocals get lower. My dad’s vocals, he has checked, are 4keys lower on the bass end. Any1 who trains & takes care of their voice can reach higher🎶, even to the point where 1can B considered a tenor. But if u r Mr. Mark Lanegan, Y would u want 2do that (except taking care of his inst.as much as possible). I haven’t checked, but I wouldn’t B surprised if his lower register is now in bass territory.…w/that velvet sound gives me goosebumps😇❣️
Totally agree. Endlessly is the word. I'ld like to be able to speak english a bit better, just so I could discuss with fans like you a bit more. Sinds a few years I have seen Mark two times, once in Amsterdam and last november in my home town, Rotterdam. I just love him so much... It's hard for me to express my feelings, when I hear his music. Just hope you understand me, when I say he overpowers me, again and again...
Lanegan has a rare gift. He has lived every note. Every seasick rollin' wave of his humble life legacy and it all feeds his soul with that bluesy rough diamond jewel of a voice, lyric, and melody combination. Untouchable. Except by him.
This man just gets better with age. Quite possibly my favorite artist of all time. I picked up the Winding Sheet almost 30 years ago, best money I ever spent!

@@keithpatrick156 Love Lanegan! One of my favorite voices ever! But none beats Cornell and Staley voices to me! Vedder? never told me much ... even less now. But with Cornell tragic departure ... Lanegan is today best vocalist! No doubt!
@@christar9527 Vedder never really told me much... I mean I like some of his records... but in fact I think he lost himself a little with the glamour and everything that fame brings. Lanegan has always remained true to the roots! You can hear this voice today, with the same feeling as 30 years ago. One of the last rock&roll warriors, such a badass motherfucker, I am grateful that he remains with us, when he could easily have died. His drug problem was no less than Layne Staley... he "simply" chose to clean and take another direction in life. Respect! I don't even put Vedder on top ...
