    I never knew that mesh tape required fast-setting compound. Always used regular compound and never seen cracks. But just a homeowner who has restored several rooms and a new addition.

    I'm just now putting the finishing paint on my bedroom ceiling that I removed a really nasty mop texture from. I used a Wen mid-mount drywall sander, and it almost killed my arms because I'm not used to holding weight above my head. The sander worked ok, but it did really badly at collecting dust because the surface wasn't flat. The entire job turned out pretty darn good for someone who's a complete novice at this sort of stuff.
    The whole thing started because I had to redo the inside corner tape for two of the walls where they met the ceiling. The tape was curled, and sloughing off the ceiling, and it just looked hideous. I used all the techniques I learned from you, and another gentleman called Vancouver Carpenter. There's still quite a few minor errors here, and there, but the end result is still night and day from how it originally looked. Now I get to do the bathroom, and vanity room, and eventually will do the other two bedrooms in the house. When I do those I plan to try the soak, and skim/peel method for the mop textures because it's just too aggressive to use the sander on in terms of time, and ease.
    The one thing I'm terrified of is snagging the tape on the joint knife. Is that something I should worry about? Thank you for all your knowledge and information. I couldn't have done what I have without your help!

    I ordered the 2” x 13” mixer from Level5, and it was $13.05. I submitted the order, and the balance was $27.60. The item said $13.05; the rest was shipping-no more level5 tools for me. Columbia is looking better and has a metal handle connection. It's also made in Vancouver British Columbia which is a big win. I live I. The United States and I'm a veteran too Guy.

    At 5:30 you say that mesh tape needs a fast setting joint compound but you show a picture of All Purpose +3. Could be confusing.

    Guy, I recall from an older video you recommended NOT using a particular mud for filling screw holes. Which mud were you referring to? Thx!

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  9 місяців тому

      Hot mud shouldn’t be used in really thin coats. So it’s ok for screws but not the best idea

      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY OK, maybe that was it. I was just double checking on the specs for Plus 3 vs ES & they highlight the ES being more moisture resistant, therefore recommended for use in bathrooms. I was running through all of the reasons I might want to use something else in there, and the screw hole question popped up (pre-filling screw holes). Thanks!

    Guy, I put up corner beads with 45 minute Easy Sand. The next day, the edges in multiple areas of the paper had lifted. I must have wiped it too tight? But for some reason it didn’t stick. What should I do now? Add another layer of mud, or try to glue the areas down with spray adhesive or glue? Thank you!

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  4 місяці тому

      If it’s minor lifting you can cut out the areas that lifted and just mud over that spot. If it’s major you may have to remove it and start over or cut out the bad section

    You know Guy, that when you get a license to do a business, that since you now have to pay a significant amount of your earnings to the state, as well as the state and federal bookwork involved, that you have to charge a big price to cover your tax liability and employee wage and all things involved...You are held to it all by contract......What you do is allow The Local Joe, who just needs to build a comfortable house for his Lovely Wife and Children, could actually manage a materials plus labor job on his own, do a fabulous job for way less....In his private capacity.....And maybe teach his children some skills.....Licences are needed to do business with The State, or US Gov.....Commerce.....Not private property.....
