If I ever decide to play the lottery and hit it, I kind of want to tile my bathroom with graded power in screw cases now... You know, in a manner that doesn't destroy them, unless someone takes like... a hammer or something to the floor.

Beating myself up for not buying the first wave of toon chaos. Could’ve got boxes for 60... now stores can slap 30$ on the tag since it’s so sought after. Easy money. And long term only going to go up because of collectors rare and that coveted 1st ed stamp.

Probably all of these mega youtubers who are opening the extremely expensive packs. They’re probably investing in all of the less expensive packs while getting everyone back into pokemon. The kids who watch people like Logan Paul or whoever are probably asking their parents for cards, and those same parents grew up collecting cards when they were kids in the 90’s or early 2000’s and want to get back into it themselves, so the demand is just skyrocketing. I really wouldn’t be surprised if mega youtubers were secretly invested in the smaller packs.

Here we are in 2022 and big box stores still can’t keep shelves stocked. And shockingly they are printing even more than ever compared to what they printed in X&Y era. Pokemon is king right now in TCGs even in sword and shield era. The number of cards graded by PSA shows pokemon is the top dog. How long will it last? Who knows but it’s been a fun ride.

I'm a casual collector. I don't keep sealed products or plan on selling my collections (they're more valuable to me than others anyway), but I find the idea of investing in collectibles and your analyses of the various markets fascinating.
Sold an ancient origins box for 225 2 weeks ago, was kind of shocked but definitely happy!
I think that with everybody forced to stay home combined with a $1200+ check in the US there was an influx of new/returning players.
A lot of those sets you mentioned being dried up I saw in my kids gift sets over the last 12 months. All the wal-mart special sets, which look to be created/filled by a third party were over flowing with single packs of those sets.

Hi, I did the same since the End of 2020, now I invest approximately 1k each month in new sealed Pokemon Products. I started from zero (befor I was a student) now 2 and a half Years later i have approximately 60k. It still worked. My Goal is to have over 1 Mio. in these Products, maybe in 10 Years. I hope :)
@@ap-tradingcards yep. It’s so simple too, you don’t even have to watch the market. One thing I suggest you do is go to your local shows buy cheap packs and rip them, might get a good hit or under value card and you’re also helping, stabilize the market and raise the product of your sealed investment
Pokémon is a long term investment thing. U cant expect to make a quick buck with them except when there is some super rare stuff going on, but then u still need to pull that card. Literally everything with a super rare and expensive charizard card will be worth investing and holding on to.

In this crisis people where sitting home and wanted to open booster packs and guess what... they did.
The cards from base set to the end of the wizards of the coast erra on pokemon 4 times doubled in price.
Those cards are starting to get "out of reach" just like alpha and beta enz. for magic.
The sets that are 2-3 years old are starting to get a price increase like... i would say always.
even the baddest black&white sets are hard to get.
you did the right thing by just putting them away.

Your instinct was right all along Rudy! I will say one thing, look up the base set price history and compare that to XY booster boxes and you might see an interesting pattern. Nostalgia is an incredible thing, if you can afford to wait for the current market to grow up, there might as well be gold in those boxes. HOLD LONG RUDY HOLD LONG.
Are you sure those with the piles sat them like you did? I have no idea how these distributors operate, but my clients routinely write off dead inventory they are unable to sell. They firesale, then just dump the rest and take a deduction for dead inventory. The other possibility is one or a few new deep pocket phantom buyers.

did well with YGO & Legendary Duelists, got cocky and decided to try another game. Got burned really not knowing the demand of it. Wasted a few thousands of dollars on a Weiss set people really didn't want. Hard to diversify to other games.
Same here to a certain degree. I mainly do Magic and Pokemon. Tried to do YGO. Legendary Duelists are slowly ticking up in price (happy about), Korean version of the "vintage" sets and Speed Duels are dead money at the moment. Should've placed the money elsewhere instead of YGO in my case.
@@rogertruong5751 ygo is selling better than both mtg and pkmn at the moment. But you have to be deeply familiar with the game and have certain experience. Card texts are longer,hundreds of aechetypes, not to mention a very long anime makes ygo hard to fully grasp. Korean sets are always going to be disregarded since they are legaly only in korea and have censored art.
@@501clonetrooper The only reason why I picked out Korean versions is for the nostalgia factor and Speed Duels for old school simplicity (thought there would be like-minded individuals out there but I'm wrong on that part).
True. I see Legendary Duelists starting to creep up alongside with Rising Rampage (first print of prismatic secret rares). Those in which I'm happy about.

@@rogertruong5751 I bought Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel and Sword Art Online Alicization. 8 boxes each. Fate/Stay Night was an okay investment. Solid S Tier set. Alicization unfortunately not that good. I thought since SAO was airing and it was very popular anime, I thought Alicization was a good pick up. Turns out the set was underwhelming and people would rather buy Goblin Slayer or Fujimi. Also Weiss Schwarz was just way too expensive for casuals to get into. Very few players played it, and usually newer sets were stronger than current ones.
My LGS still has cases of Alicization. Weiss just doesn't reprint to make it accessible, as a result, very few people cared. Stores barely buylisted Weiss. I stopped buying Weiss after that, and probably never will now that YGO got bigger. Also Weiss sets sort of powercreep old sets. No one is buying Accel World 2day.
YGO basically has no set rotation, so cards are kind of always useful. The commons are very central cards and are pretty powerful in YGO. in Weiss, the commons are kind of worthless. Legendary Duelists take very long to reprint, not many vendors opened, and had very desireable deck cores. Reprint sets are also good. YGO has hundreds of archetypes and 5 anime series so it takes time to understand and grasp it. Not to hate on Pkmn, but set rotation I believed killed demand for X/Y sets.

The multiple times he tossed packs on the ground or tossed them back into the box made me cringe so hard thinking of the psa value that was lost. That said I do enjoy your channel Rudy and I am doing a ton of studying before I open my store as well as build up inventory. I want to retire and sell cards as my career (chasing childhood dream) and then pass the business onto my 6 kids. Keep up the informative vids and I wish you well. Also I have only focused around Pokemon but I hear you talk a lot about magic and how the price seems to only go up for it so should I be gathering inventory of Magic as well right now or is that market to tough for starter ups?
Man that's why I was looking out for boxes/packs of Team Up a few weeks ago to try and complete my set and the boxes are going for 400 fricking CAD $ or more. I started my set LAST year. I could buy boxes for around 120$. Now it's quadruple. I don't get it.

From what I’ve seen and been told, it’s an influx of people with excess money, not just from the COVID bonuses, so they could either stay and the prices level out, or they leave and the prices bottom out.

I personally do the good old fashion if it has a Charizard its probably a good set to invest in. Look at XY series and the only set that has significant growth is Flashfire aka it has charizards in it... Of course some sets are good and have other popular cards or meta relevant cards. I'd highly recommend you look at the upcoming Darkness Ablaze set. I have no clue why ancient origins is at the price it is. I can understand phantom forces, furious first and flashfire but the rest I'm still confused on why they have risen. My current motto is buying sets at retail price. I got in at unbroken bonds, burning shadows and hidden fates. I'm a bit weary of current prices which is why I'm putting less in collectibles and more in stock.

Great video catch up its been 9 months ! If a store doesn't sell product does the manufacturer get to credit the store back and take its inventory. I have no clue . If so maybe there hoarded the unsold inventory to increase demand. Just a thought probably no a good one . Great video love them man . I doubt Rudy will see this but I think the answer to the cause of this is breakers, breaking, box breaks etc. I know for Magic that is now pretty much gone, but for sports and Pokemon the break craze has absolutely skyrocketed. With this skyrocket means mass buying up of product. Breakers are fine with prices going up. As long as they know they will make more money than what they're paying (the actual sealed product, shipping, packing etc.) they will keep buying it up. Even with Pokemon reprints right now breakers and social media craze means this product is not staying sealed. Sure some people keep it sealed even just hobby enthusiasts, but a LOT of people are opening these products en masse.
