I don't play magic at all and the only time I"ve ever held a magic card is from getting free bonuses from orders for pokemon or yugioh cards. The channel is still really interesting and informative for the whole TCG industry though.
What people don’t talk about enough is that with Pokémon; TONS of people open the product. So overprinting dosent matter because the majority of buyers are opening the product.
what i love most is that you can build a tier 1 deck to play with and its gonna run you about $100 while no matter format for MTG you a few mortgage payments in the hole to win a FNM lol
I agree 1000 percent. Once they change these borders, the Pokemon company will not source different materials or make these costly/time consuming adjustments to reprint old sets. SW/SH is the safest bet I've ever seen. Once they make this change they will almost certainly not reprint anything with the yellow borders. The nostalgia for the yellow borders in 5 - 10 years.... the hype will be real... come back and tell me I'm right if I am and wrong if I aint Xp
I don't see the border color as a hindering factor to reprinting older sets. If the Pokémon company wanted to reprint old sets they have the means to so so. They just don't outside of special anniversary sets.
I used to be an MTG guy but I've moved pretty much entirely over to Pokemon because the cards are so damn attractive. Rainbow arts, full card alternate arts, plus nostalgia factor from the games makes it an easy sell. Decently fun to play as well.
It's strange that it's a game and an investment, and those two counter act each other often. Sometimes, the markets are down the game get more accessible but the investment suffers and vice versa.
That's why I think it's important that we have cheap copies of cards available, as well as more scarce ones so people who like to have some value in their collections can continue to do so. It probably isn't perfect, but it's better than having an inaccessible game because cards are too expensive or a dead one because nobody wants to put money into cards of no value.
Best example for Pokemon crushing Magic is comparing 30th anniversary with Celebrations. Pokemon refused to let scalpers win and kept printing until everyone could get their hands on it for close to MSRP, if you were patient enough. Meanwhile WotC just decided to scalp their own products themselves to get a big piece of the scalping pie, setting the community on fire in the process.
During the Sun and Moon era i believe ultra prism was short printed, and a second printing didn’t happen until about a year and a half later towards the end of the sun and moon era. Boxes were at around $350-$400 when they finally reprinted them. So it’s possible they won’t reprint Silver Tempest for awhile, if at all.
Most ppl don’t know that it was bc this card Cyrus prism star needed an error fixed. It said water or steel pokemon instead of water or steel pokemon in the active zone.
I made out like a bandit on Lost Origin this black friday. TCGplayer had their 16% sale for subscribers. Dude was selling boxes for $90 + $15 shipping and combining shipping. I got a full case for $83 a box. And now they're up to $118. I wish I bought more, but I picked up some brilliant stars, silver tempest, and astral radiance too. I didn't buy any Magic though...strange.
Yugioh is so much better though. Pokemon is literally selling you the same bs a million times over and over and you guys make soyfaces and open your wallet everytime. It's honestly making me start to respect Funko pop collectors a bit who I previously had zero respect for ,cause at least they aren't buying the same character 500 times. You fuckers are annoying.
Hi, PTCi employee. We do infact pay attention to UA-camrs and market trends and go off of those. As far as prints go, we do less Booster Boxes these days and more of the 144 pack Blister boxes to circumvent overprinting boxes since most of our middle man vendors deal with big box

I think it really is as simple as the fact that people who like pokemon actually collect the cards. A lot of us literally put every card in the set into binders. I might be wrong, but I don't think many magic people do that unless its the really old stuff. I have a shelf with 37 leather zip binders on it with all of the pokemon sets that I am slowly completing throughout my life.

After Crown Zenith, the cards for Scarlet & Violet are going to look and follow the sets from JPN. No more yellow borders. Instead, they'll be silver borders. They will no longer have individual set symbols but will have season markers.

XY cards are no where near the caliber of Sword and Shield and if anyone is lying to themselves saying that, they can live in that dream world. These products are going to hit "Patriot Missile" style upward launch when the market upswings. I would assume most of these boxes will at least tread into the direction of double if not triple costs today in a few years. The amount of this stuff I store back and open is insane. Pokémon is definitely aimed at kids. Events are segregated by age, special products are made with Pokémon most popular with kids, the games are made with kids in mind. The company knows that there are adults that collect it and play it but the overwhelming majority of the community is kids.

Problem with Pokemon is the huge power creep every set. Besides that I really like the cards.. I decided to get into a TCG I was deciding on MTG and Pokemon. MTG I couldn't follow to save my life. Pokemon I decided nah cuz I would feel creepy trying to play it with a bunch of kids. Then I played FaB, and it was no contest, that was so fun. Now I opened my first box in 20 years
I wanted something to play while yugioh goes through its tier 0 phase, so me and my friends tried digimon, and it's a solid game. Pokemon is alright and I've heard good things about FaB but dunno anywhere local selling it.
I think the biggest telling that Pokémon navigated these last couple of years much better than Magic the Gathering is each of their respective 25 and 30-year anniversary reprint editions Pokemon blew it out of the water with their four cards celebrations pack that could contain a base Charizard and Magic went literally the opposite way with $1,000 randomized boxes
As always, filling the warehouse more, with a view to keeping the stock for a minimum of three years and probably closer to five before contemplating selling 1/3 at that stage depending on how the actual market is and hoping for an average 8% return, time will tell Ruby. Coming back my first three years just passed and not the best time to contemplate selling, so looking to how things are closer to the five year period which comes around in August 2024 .. diamond paws for the win! ;)
i just started my sealed collection last week, got a case of lost origin and a case of silver tempest, 680 each. this was my first year / era that i started collecting and my thought process was since a new era was coming in march, these sets wouldn't reprint as much stock since their focus is on Scarlet and violet. even if they did do a mass one, those shits would get eatin up lke evolving(those 2 sets specifically). if theres another reprint, god damn, i am gonna stock up on those 2 sets. i strongly believe out of all SWSH, silver and lost origin will follow in the footsteps of Evolving skies and brilliant.
Would it also be smart to collect the chase cards of these SWSH sets? Pokemon isn't known to reprint these chase alt arts and I can see them going up with the sets as they become more scarce.
I should have subbed sooner not many content creators I follow. Loved your videos for a long time now. Pokémon seems to be reliable even in the terrible current market conditions and global economy. I do think the market will clean every set reprint out. But I have seen hobby shops with booster boxes sitting. Eventually they’ll sell it all but it’s still taking these shops some time to move it.
My lgs has sold out of all booster boxes from sets printed over the past 2 years in the past 2 months. The demand for sealed pokemon product can no be understated.
I really think Pokemon is doing well because of UA-camrs. In the early 2000s, pokemon didn't just magically become unpopular. I think plenty of kids had genuine interest but the other kids chasing the fads pressured the genuine collectors into disliking it. I liked pokemon but got made fun of by so many others to the point that I gave up. I always thought it was cool but when I saw the cool kids hating pokemon so much that they were willing to burn their cards, I knew that I needed to stop if I wanted any friends as a 5th grader. And that scenerio happened on a massive scale and destroyed the hobby. But now you have 20-50 year old youtubers that are making it publicly cool enough for adults to be into pokemon and it gives the younger generation a collector to look up to and validate the hobby. UA-cam is keeping pokemon cool.

I buy 2 booster boxes every release. Open 1 and put 1 away. Last evolving skies reprint I grabbed a few to put away, and its gone up like crazy since. Evolving skies boosters are close to $300 now
Unfortunately out here our "importer"(who is supposed to also distribute but doesnt) is making pokemon products ridiculously overpriced, as he only imports then sells to a distributor who also makes a cut and booster boxes reach $200-220 retail...

I’ve heard my LGS owner tell a customer he hadn’t had Pokémon cards in stock since early Covid, he sold out and whatever he gets is sold within a week.
I find it hilarious to see the MTG and other TCG collector's have so much hate for Pokemon and the continued success we see with TPCI's business model. TPCI know what they're doing, and they do it very well.

The Mcdonlads Hambrugler came to me in my dreams and after violating me in a Lusty Passion he imparted onto me a year ago to Buy heavy in SWSH Sealed - So I bought Countless cases and that was the best parting wisdom I ever got.
Pokemon is just that recognizable, seemingly timeless series which parents will buy off of shelves at whim for their kids. This weekend I went to Walmart early in the morning. There were 2 Zard UPCs, 7 Lost Origin sleeved packs and a few Darkness Ablaze ETBs. MTG, YuGiOh and Baseball were all stocked up high.

I know you don't have much of a connection with Pokemon but I hope you keep trying to find one because it's more enjoyable as a viewer when we know that you are into it on slightly more than a business standpoint. Open booster box videos and check out some of the chase cards in each set. I've always said it's about how good the card looks, and kids don't care for vintage. It's all about crazy looking modern cards these days. I've usually gone against what most people say just like you. The test of time always wins! 💯

I made the decision to switch from buying magic booster boxes to Pokémon booster boxes. I get my fix for opening packs, I continue to support my lgs all while not supporting wotc.
I don't think there will be reprints of anything prior to Scarlet & Violet. Crown Zenith will be printed to oblivion from its start until the 2nd set of the Scarlet & Violet era as a supplement. With the MSRP going up & the actual look of the card changing; I dont think the Pokemon Company is going to want that on shelf confusion. "Why is this one more expensive?" . If they do reprints, small chance IMO, it's going to be ETBs and make them include an extra pack while making them retailer exclusive. S&S booster boxes are done
I do think the hobby is fine. I don’t think printing will matter too much. As an avid collector of both sealed and singles my collection is a variety of modern, Japanese, English, and even some wotcy products. I think so many people are ripping packs it’s not too much concern. Most people who do own sealed really only own maybe 1 or 2 of a sealed product. Very few started distribution contracts and have hundred of sealed products sitting around. Plus, I think pull rates are so hard now in modern Pokémon that they will do fine long term because it’s so hard to get the alt hards, full arts, even collect all the reverse holos.

One day kids are catching invisible Pokemons in your driveway, the next you're seeing a 500% return on booster boxes nobody wanted, I can't follow these trends.
Could it be they are concentrating on the mass printing needed for the next set (CZ)? They are going to turn around and reprint SWSH sets next year until we stop buying them. But, what will the next generation produce? It might slow down the desire for SWSH? It's gonna be a hard act to follow, that's for sure.
For people who actually want to play the game with their Pokemon cards, it's worth mentioning that they make precons with playsets of the top used staples and sell them for like $15-20. My LGS sells out of Pokemon fast while MTG commander decks from a year ago are still on the shelves at $52 or whatever they cost now.

I was always told that a 6-7% return each year is actually phenomenal. Well crunch the numbers on $120 over 25 years at 6% and you'll get about $500. That is saying that if you bought a booster box today for $120, if you could see it in 25 years for $500, that was a good return. Now look at XY and S&M era boxes (all less than10 years old)...Yeah buy it all
@@sellcryptonow6806 yes, definitely things here and there like fees and cost of holding the inventory, risk of fire, etc, but from a very basic level, it definitely made it easier to take the risk and allocate more of my portfolio in cards versus other investments.
Rudy I appreciate your videos. I've collected/ played many TCGS since I was about 6 starting with pokemon. What would be your recommendation to starting down a path to be a bigger sealed collector in the future? (i know I may be starting a bit late since I am already going on 28).
It's not worth garbage like MTG. The booster boxes are selling at a little above MSRP or better. They are moving product at a consistent rate without requiring amazon dumps to move products off the hands of distributors or retailers. You can buy a new set for $90-100/box and the chances of that box being valued at $120+ in a period of 1 year are higher than any other TCG.
So, im just going to throw this out there. Silver tempest has Lugia in it, every Lugia set generally has the lest print run of that era. I seriously wouldnt be suprised if they dont even reprint Silver Tempest.
Graded cards are cancer. Stop letting someone determine the value of a card that is paid a minimum wage rate and has to complete the "inspection" in less than 30 seconds per card. I've never graded a single card but have bought a couple just to put my metal cutting pliers right on that plastic case.... and then.... SNAP!! Crack that puppy open and get my card out of this oversized heap of soullessness. The last card I opened out of a slab was an Espeon Holo from the Neo series. I am only stating my point and am happy if you want to grade your cards, it's just not for me.

I don’t play in collectables market (I don’t understand it enough). I hold significant positions in several Funds and some physical PM’s. But these videos are fascinating and educational.
I just was lucky to find in my old 1999 stuff and I found a box sealed box 📦 of Wizards of Coast First Pokémon box set 60 cards mint sealed entire case of cardboard. This box has the 1999 Charzard image wow never seen these before.
I’ve spent a couple thousands in the last few months putting money into sword and Shield. More etb’s then bb’s which may not be the best move but for someone trying to catch up in this era it was just the only way I could afford diversification across sets. Just recently packed everything up and feel good about it!

In the LGS I go, Pokemon TCG sells a LOT. From kids to collectors, I see more people who buy Pokemon stuff than MtG and YGH combined.

But even when Sca/vi comes out, the last two years of cards will still be in standard rotation. So they may show up in stores. That’s how they do it

i just started my sealed collection last week, got a case of lost origin and a case of silver tempest, 680 each. this was my first year / era that i started collecting and my thought process was since a new era was coming in march, these sets wouldn't reprint as much stock since their focus is on Scarlet and violet. even if they did do a mass one, those shits would get eatin up lke evolving(those 2 sets specifically). if theres another reprint, god damn, i am gonna stock up on those 2 sets. i strongly believe out of all SWSH, silver and lost origin will follow in the footsteps of Evolving skies and brilliant.
Would it also be smart to collect the chase cards of these SWSH sets? Pokemon isn't known to reprint these chase alt arts and I can see them going up with the sets as they become more scarce.
Sealed is still pretty attractive over individual cards. For yourself - the cards. To sell later - sealed.
I should have subbed sooner not many content creators I follow. Loved your videos for a long time now. Pokémon seems to be reliable even in the terrible current market conditions and global economy. I do think the market will clean every set reprint out. But I have seen hobby shops with booster boxes sitting. Eventually they’ll sell it all but it’s still taking these shops some time to move it.
My lgs has sold out of all booster boxes from sets printed over the past 2 years in the past 2 months. The demand for sealed pokemon product can no be understated.
I really think Pokemon is doing well because of UA-camrs. In the early 2000s, pokemon didn't just magically become unpopular. I think plenty of kids had genuine interest but the other kids chasing the fads pressured the genuine collectors into disliking it. I liked pokemon but got made fun of by so many others to the point that I gave up. I always thought it was cool but when I saw the cool kids hating pokemon so much that they were willing to burn their cards, I knew that I needed to stop if I wanted any friends as a 5th grader. And that scenerio happened on a massive scale and destroyed the hobby. But now you have 20-50 year old youtubers that are making it publicly cool enough for adults to be into pokemon and it gives the younger generation a collector to look up to and validate the hobby. UA-cam is keeping pokemon cool.

I buy 2 booster boxes every release. Open 1 and put 1 away. Last evolving skies reprint I grabbed a few to put away, and its gone up like crazy since. Evolving skies boosters are close to $300 now
Unfortunately out here our "importer"(who is supposed to also distribute but doesnt) is making pokemon products ridiculously overpriced, as he only imports then sells to a distributor who also makes a cut and booster boxes reach $200-220 retail...
Should do a video on the recently announced 25th anni Yu-gi-oh packs. That's how you release an anniversary product.

I’ve heard my LGS owner tell a customer he hadn’t had Pokémon cards in stock since early Covid, he sold out and whatever he gets is sold within a week.

I find it hilarious to see the MTG and other TCG collector's have so much hate for Pokemon and the continued success we see with TPCI's business model. TPCI know what they're doing, and they do it very well.
Pokémon player here. Mtg players are always negative and greedy.
Remaining MTG players are toxic to the bone, I think they have nostalgia for all the money spent over the years and they fixate on the old and luck/draw based mtg gameplay

This weekend I went to Walmart early in the morning. There were 2 Zard UPCs, 7 Lost Origin sleeved packs and a few Darkness Ablaze ETBs.
MTG, YuGiOh and Baseball were all stocked up high.

I know you don't have much of a connection with Pokemon but I hope you keep trying to find one because it's more enjoyable as a viewer when we know that you are into it on slightly more than a business standpoint. Open booster box videos and check out some of the chase cards in each set. I've always said it's about how good the card looks, and kids don't care for vintage. It's all about crazy looking modern cards these days. I've usually gone against what most people say just like you. The test of time always wins! 💯

Funny, I’ve been looking more and more into sealed pokemon myself. For similar reasons too
chase cards are hard to get so the consumption rate of the sealed is crazy high because pokemon is mainly collectors that want those shiny cards.

I made the decision to switch from buying magic booster boxes to Pokémon booster boxes. I get my fix for opening packs, I continue to support my lgs all while not supporting wotc.
I don't think there will be reprints of anything prior to Scarlet & Violet. Crown Zenith will be printed to oblivion from its start until the 2nd set of the Scarlet & Violet era as a supplement.
With the MSRP going up & the actual look of the card changing; I dont think the Pokemon Company is going to want that on shelf confusion. "Why is this one more expensive?" . If they do reprints, small chance IMO, it's going to be ETBs and make them include an extra pack while making them retailer exclusive.

I’m exceptionally heavy in sword and shield. Have a 18k position on it. Watching this puts a big smile on my face
I do think the hobby is fine. I don’t think printing will matter too much. As an avid collector of both sealed and singles my collection is a variety of modern, Japanese, English, and even some wotcy products. I think so many people are ripping packs it’s not too much concern. Most people who do own sealed really only own maybe 1 or 2 of a sealed product. Very few started distribution contracts and have hundred of sealed products sitting around. Plus, I think pull rates are so hard now in modern Pokémon that they will do fine long term because it’s so hard to get the alt hards, full arts, even collect all the reverse holos.
I don't play magic I used to in high-school which was way back when I play pokemon I watch your channel for the funny intros and just cus Rudy is interesting 🤔 😅

Could it be they are concentrating on the mass printing needed for the next set (CZ)? They are going to turn around and reprint SWSH sets next year until we stop buying them. But, what will the next generation produce? It might slow down the desire for SWSH? It's gonna be a hard act to follow, that's for sure.
For people who actually want to play the game with their Pokemon cards, it's worth mentioning that they make precons with playsets of the top used staples and sell them for like $15-20. My LGS sells out of Pokemon fast while MTG commander decks from a year ago are still on the shelves at $52 or whatever they cost now.

I was always told that a 6-7% return each year is actually phenomenal. Well crunch the numbers on $120 over 25 years at 6% and you'll get about $500. That is saying that if you bought a booster box today for $120, if you could see it in 25 years for $500, that was a good return. Now look at XY and S&M era boxes (all less than10 years old)...Yeah buy it all
@@sellcryptonow6806 yes, definitely things here and there like fees and cost of holding the inventory, risk of fire, etc, but from a very basic level, it definitely made it easier to take the risk and allocate more of my portfolio in cards versus other investments.

Those pokemon alt arts are worth gold. They're not worth chasing in sealed product though

It's not worth garbage like MTG. The booster boxes are selling at a little above MSRP or better. They are moving product at a consistent rate without requiring amazon dumps to move products off the hands of distributors or retailers.
You can buy a new set for $90-100/box and the chances of that box being valued at $120+ in a period of 1 year are higher than any other TCG.

In a declining market every where my sealed Pokemon is still on average 25% up in the last year
So, im just going to throw this out there. Silver tempest has Lugia in it, every Lugia set generally has the lest print run of that era. I seriously wouldnt be suprised if they dont even reprint Silver Tempest.

Graded cards are cancer. Stop letting someone determine the value of a card that is paid a minimum wage rate and has to complete the "inspection" in less than 30 seconds per card. I've never graded a single card but have bought a couple just to put my metal cutting pliers right on that plastic case.... and then.... SNAP!! Crack that puppy open and get my card out of this oversized heap of soullessness. The last card I opened out of a slab was an Espeon Holo from the Neo series. I am only stating my point and am happy if you want to grade your cards, it's just not for me.

I just was lucky to find in my old 1999 stuff and I found a box sealed box 📦 of Wizards of Coast First Pokémon box set 60 cards mint sealed entire case of cardboard. This box has the 1999 Charzard image wow never seen these before.

I’ve spent a couple thousands in the last few months putting money into sword and Shield. More etb’s then bb’s which may not be the best move but for someone trying to catch up in this era it was just the only way I could afford diversification across sets. Just recently packed everything up and feel good about it!
Pokemon had a Magic 30th...it was Celebrations...it was affordable.
And reprinted some highly noteworthy cards like base Charizard, gold star Umbreon, and Shining Makigarp.
