I just dont understand how cardboard is valued at anything. There is no use or value with cards outside of the game. If u hold ur wealth in gold and silver your chilling
@@sloanxxr1440 Like many other collectibles it's value and it's demand both come from a small subset of individuals, some are investor bros trying to make a buck and others are collectors who maybe played at a young age in the 90s and want to recapture some of their youth, also of course there's the gamers. It's essentially a collective agreement of value within a small community that is reinforced by MTG continuing to stand the test of time. It has no shortage of volatility of course but it is interesting, a potential case-study subject on how humans often ascribe value to non-practical items, a practice that's existed since caveman times.
@@sloanxxr1440 the value is what others are willing to pay for it lol thats literally any collectible. gold and silver is even more ridiculous, if you think about it, because to the average person it holds absolutely no tangible value other than the fact it's desired by others. at least with magic cards, you can play a game with them, you can admire the art, you can trigger nostalgia, etc. im not sure why people aren't able to wrap their mind around basic economic principles of scarcity and supply/demand for a card game like magic, but don't bat an eye at other collectibles like sneakers, sports cards, paintings and art, etc. Magic literally follows the exact same economic model as gold, silver and cryptocurrency in terms of it's speculative value and the market that has sprung up because of these forces. it feels like so many younger players who get into the game just hate capitalism, don't educate themselves on capitalism, and then act shocked when they find out they live under capitalism and the new thing they like is dictated by the laws of capitalism despite their whining that it shouldn't

Yeah, that's why I don't collect sealed product anymore. It's too much to store it. The non-bulk cards in my raw cards collection alone fills my entire safe, so there's no room for anything else. And my bulk fills an entire closet - I can't store sealed product without significant cost for storage, so I just can't do it right now.
As an lgs owner, I can appreciate Mr. Taco's relationship with cardboard. The moment you make your passion a business, the less 'fun' you have with it. I'm surrounded by games all day and play very little of anything anymore. I've stopped playing Magic, play maybe 3-4 tabletop games a month. The passion is certainly still there, but it's in a business context now.

Rudy I have been playing MTG since 1994 and use to own a LGS during which time I took a break from playing to run the business, while money was good I lost the incredible happiness I once had playing the game. You shouldve asked a Patton expert this question. You will need to find the daughter of a patent medicine fortune and marry her. Patton had 20 polo horses. Where do I put them?
Collectibles have almost zero chance of out performing traditional investments in the long term. In fact, they are completely unsuitable for use as investments. If you buy them, it should be because you enjoy doing so or because you’re creating an alternative to simply holding cash. Of course now that interest rates have begun to move upwards even holding cash can get you 4.7% at almost no risk. You should think of buying collectibles the way you might think of putting down some money on blackjack. You might make some money. You might lose some money. Presumably you’re going to have a little bit of fun in the process. But only a great fool would actually expect to make a large amount of money doing it.
I bought a bunch of Legendary lands thinking they'd go up but now they're down 75%. I didn't buy them to make money, I bought them so I'd have them for decks. I wasted money.
Here some advice to my fellow service member asking about storing sealed product. I also store it. I keep the most valuable boxes at my residence but for the majority of it take it back home to your parents home or close relative and keep it there. I have an entire empty room at a relatives house I store sealed product in and take whatever i accrue in between visits back with me when i visit for storage at my relatives house.

Starting at 5:11, I swear I fully expected Rudy to, at some point, say “there’s nothing wrong with pleasuring yourself.”
Missed opportunity, sigh…
I wonder how many lunatics actually invested heavily in cards and ruined their life entirely 😂
I bought a bunch of Legendary lands thinking they'd go up but now they're down 75%. I didn't buy them to make money, I bought them so I'd have them for decks. I wasted money.
Sorry for your money losses
That is your choice Rudy!
Awesome information, thanks Rudy for the honesty ☝️🤙
Here some advice to my fellow service member asking about storing sealed product. I also store it. I keep the most valuable boxes at my residence but for the majority of it take it back home to your parents home or close relative and keep it there. I have an entire empty room at a relatives house I store sealed product in and take whatever i accrue in between visits back with me when i visit for storage at my relatives house.
I was just about to post this, as I am doing the same thing. Great advice!
