Through out my high school marching band, we swapped out all flute players with piccolo players. At one point, we had 10 piccolos. Flutes are lost on the field. No one can hear them.

I am a lifelong trombone player. I was never great, but I made it up to third chair Pennsylvania state band way way back in 2002. I cannot stress enough just how difficult a piece this is for a regular trombone. This speed is almost unheard of. This was sharp, crisp, and unbelievably well done. I swear before God that I actually teared up listening to it. Marvelous, amazingly well done, and please keep it up!

Wonderful! As a flutist, a mom, and a music teacher, I just about cried when I saw all those middle and high school kids getting this opportunity to be part of such an awesome, memorable experience! It was probably also pretty cool for the adults in the group, but for those kids! Yes! Thank you, Dallas Winds!
What a great idea! Stars and Stripes is one of my favorite Sousa marches because of the piccolo solos. Most peoples don't even notice the piccolos. I actually got emotional and teary because of the awesomeness of this video.

(Both a player and have had to sit next to one. Fun times when you're both at once and have to play a soft high E )

Stirring patriotic marches that fill hearts with pride, yet not with war or aggression; tunes that are perfect for a town's high school band on the 4th of July or a concert in a city's finest venue. I live just to the north, and we have nothing like this.
Wow,, THAT is the way it's supposed to be done. As a former flute/piccolo player, I appreciate this. Even more, my husband is a former trumpet player, two of my granddaughters are flute players, we have a sax player, a french horn player, and a tuba. I'm a proud Canadian flutist, so the only reason I am watching this video is because I wanted to see my people rise up against every other musician and enslave them for the purposes of an act of war. And guess what; they were successful.
When ever I hear these patriotic songs I never think of the "greatness" of the country...the "greatness" of its people...the "greatness" of its institutions. I think of the young kids,.... the "dog faces" (as they were called during WWII)... who fought and died for this country. These songs, at least in my mind, are a tribute to THEM!

I also played the trumpet 🎺 in my younger years and aboard the USS KAWISHIWI, AO 146 out of PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII. this was from 1/75-11/77, ALMOST 3 FULL YEARS! The STARS AND STRIPES is the MOST POPULAR REQUEST FOR ANY MILITARY BAND! And, it's because of the SOLO BY THE PICCOLO!! GOD BLESS THEM ALL!! It's one of the hardest instruments to play!

I was sitting in my chair eating breakfast and wanted to listen to one of the greatest songs written by John Philip Sousa, and when the flag rolled down tears suddenly filled my eyes. Because I fear for this country and the Stars and stripes may not last forever. Unless we repent as a country and ask for God's forgiveness we are doomed to history as another once great country ruined by its own sin Oh God, forgive us, relent and bring us back to you!

My father was a band director for over 30 years. He loved Sousa marches. I was a flautist/piccolo player. I played this many times but I doubt I ever played it that beautifully. When the 94 began to play I cried. It really moved me!
My God, we come up with some of the best patriotic tunes of any nation, IMHO, And Sousa (the composer of S&SF?) was perhaps the greatest creative genius ever in this genre. These kinds of songs remind you that America, in spite of the hyperbole of the present Administration, has always been great in spite of her problems. And I loved the encore, with the prominent part played by the piccolos at the conclusion. Great stuff!!!

I played flute and piccolo in our high school band, marching band, orchestra and university marching band. They were the best days of my life!! Oh the memories......... 🙂
That is the greatest piece of band music ever composed and that band did a good job of playing it.
I loved the unfurling of the American flag, and kudos to the string bass player. Again, excellent rendition of John Philip Sousa’s masterpiece!
