    Finding good quality lighting that stands the test of time can be challenging, especially when adding all the extra requirements of living on a boat.
    Is it easy to use? How much power does it consume? Is the installation process simple?
    And why do so many boat lights make you feel like you're being stabbed in the eyeball with the harshest lighting ever?!?
    In this episode we go over all the aspects of these fantastic lights that we've been using aboard Paragon for 14 years (!!!) and counting.

    This UA-cam channel has the best sailing content! Its practical and useful information. I'm a 40 year old family man who lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina (Appalachia). I've never been on a sailboat. However, I've learned tremendous amounts of knowledge from you over the years. I plan on living a "blue water cruising" life when my kids go to college. I'm into high adventure. Do you think its likely that an older person who has never sailed before could sail around the world and not perish? I'm not a moron. I'm college educated. My profession is accounting. Thanks for all the content. Long live Captain Drake and the Paragon!

      @@black_mountain_death_squad You are very welcome. By the way, I don't know if you saw my edit, but I addressed the age issue and provided a link to a couple who has a ten minute video on this exact topic. Fair winds and I wish you great success!

    Thank you for your very detailed talk about the lights and how you use them. It was quite interesting and informative, and I enjoyed seeing your vessel and how you placed the lights. My compliments on a well found vessel and a nice and clean engine! Fair winds!

    We also got a more comprehensive tour of Paragon. I think I saw you using an induction cook top over the propane stove? I think that's smart when you're in the harbor for an extended period of time and I actually prefer induction cook tops in many situations. Love the camera tricks!

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  3 роки тому +2

      We love our 2 induction hobs. So much faster and easier to cook with than propane or non induction hot plate. We got one that lets you set the actual degree of temperature, so we can set it perfectly for different meals.

    Another great video, thank you. I would love to see an in-depth discussion of your heating choices. With all your high latitude sailing you must have wisdom to offer - and it just so happens that I’m struggling with installation choices for our center cockpit cruising boat🤓.

    Love my alpenglow lights. I believe the prior owner upgraded to LED. I'll have to check.

    Beautiful lights! We have upgraded all our lights to LED and the power consumption WENT WAY DOWN! Thank you for sharing.

      It really is just amazing how much less electricity the LED lights take. And the colors!!! I'm really looking forward to making our next video on lighting where we'll show what we've done with LEDs. :)

    I tell ya I bought my boat in oriental NC where you did your refit. Its a neat little town. It is hard to get part's there i guess you needed to make a few trips into town. I watched you do your refit so it was cool to pull my boat out in the same place you did your refit.

    Great video. Think I'll get some for my boat. Just to let you know. I bought a couple of LIFX bulbs for my house. Best thing I bought all year. Would have not bought them if it wasn't for you. And, by the way, I think your presentation is just fine. Last thing I think of is a robot.

    Good looking lights Drake but boy the price is steep. It is so easy now to install LED lighting of many types, strips, bulb replacement etc. Good info as always. Andy UK

      We are using those two big white canisters for filtration, and only using the racor as a water separator (there's no filter element in it).

    Do you have the current splash proof Alpenglow light,? if so where did you go with the splash proof and where did you use the regular ones? Thanks for your videos!

    • @nfk6869
      @nfk6869 3 роки тому

      Meaning do you use any splash proof inside like near galley, or in engine room?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  3 роки тому +1

      All of our Alpenglow lights inside the boat are the non-splash proof versions. They've all been working great since 2007. We only have the splash proof version in the cockpit.

      Funny thing, that hat is made of tweed, which is made on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. The tweed was then shipped to Italy where it was made into that hat and then shipped to the Faroe Islands where I bought it, just before we sailed back to the Isle of Lewis.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Interesting 'infomercial', but very little to do with respect to sailing/adventure. Hope this doesn't become the easy content that eclipses your usual excellent productions.

      Hey Donald, over the years we’ve had so many people ask us about gear on our boat. ‘What is that, how does it work, do you like it, is it durable…and can you just make an episode on gear and things you like?’
      And we’ve finally decided to do just that. Once a month we’re going to put out an episode of Paragon’s Favourite Stuff based on what people have asked about in the past as well as current suggestions.
      These are all things that we use aboard Paragon. Some have worked out great, but we’ll let you know if something hasn’t.
      These videos aren’t replacing our story episodes, rather, they’re in addition to the usual stories.
      If learning about, and checking out, gear isn’t your thing we understand. Everyone seems to have a favourite type of video they enjoy on our channel.
      However, if you ever do see something we use aboard Paragon and are curious about how it works then let us know. Who knows, perhaps you’ll inspire the next Paragon’s Favourite Stuff episode!
      Take care and fair winds to you. -Monique

      While the episodes about his kit in one sense doesn't talk about sailing, they do in other ways. The gear one uses on a boat is very important and good items make a big difference on the ability to sail and maintain one's readiness. Good lighting is very important, especially when things get wonky. Also, seeing where he located these can be helpful to those who need to upgrade. When I upgraded the lighting on two of my three sailboats, I looked at many other boats for ideas on what worked well.

      Hi Shawn, Ha! So there's the Drake presenter/instructor who sounds like a robot, and then there's just Drake. :) I've been having a lot of fun making these new Paragon's Favorite Stuff videos. It's a whole different kind of thing when you have to plan out the presentation ahead of time, and rehearse it until you get it right, than when you're just filming everything that's going on all the time while you're on an adventure. I'm hoping that I'll just get better and better at presenting stuff. And in the meantime I'll just try to not sound like a robot. 😁

      Hey STEVEN R,
      It’s true that I am trying to give you useful information, and my opinion, on a product that I’ve used on my boat FOR FOURTEEN YEARS!

      Drake,
      Fun is one thing, rehearsing over & over again is another. And, can make one look plastic...
      BTW, the 'lighting' product speaks volumes by itself.
      Thank you!
      Time, maybe, to relax. Perhaps the stress of those icebergs 🧊, specially in Port, has given you brain 🥶. Hopefully not!
