#friedman #soldano #pedals
Both sound great but the I'd give the Soldano the win. It just seems to have a fuller tone and is a bigger presence in the mix. The riff sounds very Jake E Lee "Bark at the moon" inspired. Very well done my friend.
Thanks!
Thank you Euge! I have learned so much from your videos! Very structured, not too long and chock FULL of great time and playing.
I am learning how to dial in tone with my ears as you do!
LOVE YOUR TONE.
Cool man! Really glad to hear! Thanks!
Stellar riff, solo and song writing skills. + your fret board hand efficiency is amazing. Well done.
Thanks!
Both are great sounding Pedals, its the first time I heard the Soldano SLO Pedal..... Awesome Sound...
Mike Soldano just refuses to be unseated as the king of the "modded Marshall" sound.
Love the riff, the play and the tone. 10/10
Thanks! Really glad to hear!
Great playing again, my man! Epic riff and excellent tone.
Thanks!
I come here for the information, yet am always amazed by your playing. A long term Marshall man, I took a chance on a Friedman product and am quite happy with it. Smallbox pedal and 72 Gold Wah, next will be BE OD pedal.
Cool man! Thanks!
Great demo, love your channel Euge 🤘⚡️
Thanks! Glad to hear!
Came hear to make a choice…great playing and really great guide to the pedals, thanks Euge,
Thanks! Glad to hear!
I play a BE-OD deluxe into a clean amp and it never lets me down. Trim the gain down on the internal trim pot for the first channel and it has a sweet light break up to it. And the second channel is just epic.
Cool!
Both sound great. I have the BE-OD still need to try the slo pedal. Thank you Euge
🤟🙏
My old ears can’t hear any difference. Sorry, can’t go wrong with either. Thank you Euge.
I guess it’s in the ear of the beholder 😎. Thanks!
That was on FIRE, mate! 🤘
Thanks!
Excellent comparison video, I thought about trying to do one myself but you have done a fantastic job here, two super fun pedals that sound different but similar and playing with both pedals does feel like you have both heads in your quiver
Thanks!
Thank you! The exactly comparison what I look for! Also Super riffs!!!
Glad to hear! Thanks!
Great demo .. I have the Friedman OD deluxe and like it but it needs help and now after your demo I'm going to get the SD 1 !!! 👍 Sound's fantastic! Thanks for the info . I never thought of that. And you are 💯 percent correct "a good player sounds good no matter the gear " 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks man!
At home, I run the Friedman BE OD into a Fender Champ. At rehearsal and shows, I run the BE OD into a Fender Pro Reverb Reissue (40wts) or a Blankenship Fat Boy (22wts). All sound glorious… big sound out of a small grab-and-go amp. Great video! Thanx Euge!!!
Cool! Thanks!
Like how you added some real world application of the SD-1 into this. The fact that you were able to use the BE with a Fender Champ and get a great tone shows you know how to get a good sound no matter what.
Glad to hear! Thanks!
I will go for Soldano pedal. I built both clone DIY of these pedal and I can say the sustain is so natural of Soldano under my finger in whatever gain setting i set. It cleans up nicely. As a matter of I am about to finish building 3 in 1 pedal which has the Soldano 100, 1981 Drive and JHS Morning Glory all in one box, all analog. This will be my main modern gain pedal on pedal board.
One of the best pedal demo videos I have ever seen. The SLO pedal had too much midrange, I would have dialed it back more.
The SD-1 with the BE-OD sounded surprisingly good! I would never think to use it that way, but it works.
I like the BE-OD more than the SLO. Now we just need you to demo the Ola CHUG pedal for us, when you get your hands on one!
Oh thanks! Really glad to hear! Yeah it’d be awesome 🤟.
Outstanding demonstration
Thanks man!
awesome video man, thx for posting!
Thanks!
Great as always
Thanks!
Wow. They both sound amazing… or at least you do lol. I’m the type to get whichever one of these 2 pedals is available at the moment. It does seem like the slo is a little fuller sounding and the BO seems to have a bit more gritty bite! Awesome demo dude!
Indeed. Thanks!
Very nice! I think soldano has a bit more bright but wow! They both sound great!
True!! My Friedman Dirty Shirley makes my Princeton into a fire-breathing dragon!
Love this channel!!🇨🇦
🤟. Thanks!
Great video :) The SD-1 is my favourite boost pedal: love it! Victor...
Thanks!
Love the SLO, shines more in the mix for me, they both sound great, but I’ll go for that Soldano. Thanks for the video!
Thanks man!
The BE-OD sounds like it has a bit more depth and warmth, making it my fave of the two. Both sound killer though 🎸🤙🏻
👌🤟
Great tones. I own the Friedman BE-OD, Both pedals sound equally good in this video.
Thanks! Indeed 👌🤟.
Love the video as always love the song wish you would do a vid breaking it down so sick 😎🤟🏻
Thanks! Request noted 😎👌.
Thanks for the great video! Greetings from Sweden
Thanks!
Great demo! I have noticed the same, SLO sounds better without sd-1 or any other overdrive in front it. Friedman sounds allways good, with or without overdrive. But both are great and fun to play :-)
Thanks! Indeed 👌.
Can't really decide... I've got the SLO and I like the low mids.
The clean-up of the SLO is the best I've seen on a pedal.
Both sound great ( I think you've done the best demo of the Soldano) but I'm leaning towards the OD for rhythm and the SLO for leads. It has more bite and can cut better but this is based on your settings. But the OD is much more scooped sounding. From here hard to say if compensation one way or another could be done. So in the end, we hear things 180º I think as the SLO had more bite to my ears and the OD was more focused and smooooth.
Thanks! Indeed 👌.
Another great comparison!
Thanks!
@@EugeValovirta230V The Revv G4 pedal is also great.
Hey Euge. Well said and so true. "A Good Player Will Sound Good No Matter The Gear" and "A Bad Player Will Sound Bad No Matter The Gear"
👌🙏
I love the more open midrange of the Soldano... wow that's the sound I love
🤟😎
I have the Friedman OD Deluxe and it slays in the clean channel of a Mesa mark IV and I use it to boost my JJ100 very warm
That opening riff was KILLER (don't let the drums get in the way though...🤣). Was the perfect choice for this type of demo. That SLO in a mix sounds much better to me. The SLO by itself (at least in this demo) it sounds a bit anemic, so you have to dial it out. Short of that, the pedal (just like the amp) sounds killer when it's dialed in properly. Well done, Euge! (You should write a song around that riff 👍)
Thanks! Yeah the drums (especially toms were a bit loud in the mix 😎).
@@EugeValovirta230V And, too busy (especially for a demo). If a drummer shows up and plays like that over a killer riff you're playing, punch him in the face, and tell him "It's not all about you". Trust, me....I'm a drummer. Took me a long time (and a lot of broken bones) to learn that.🤣
Yeah those were just some beats I put on and jammed on top. Didn’t have time to program them properly.
Great audio entertainment Euge. Accurate descriptions. That Champ account...lol.😆
Thanks! 😁🤟
the paf tone is gnarly!
💪🤟
That Soldano cuts a little better in the mix to my ears. Both sound good tho with your playing . Great jammin as always. I'd like to hear you just doing some improv jammin for about an hour long video. Really love your playing.
Thanks man! 😎🕺
The both sound killer 🤘💪⚡️
As the go-to marshall fella I hope one day you get those tone owning fingers of yours on the Texas Harmonic Hotrod 800 pedal... Awesome video as usual. 🙌🤘🍺
Thanks!
I liked the sound of the SLO pedal so much I dropped $5800 on the SLO-30 and a 2x12 vertical cab in snakeskin tolex.
😎🤟
Love your videos Euge! I was super interested in a comparison of both of these pedals and this video helped out so much!
When you were talking about using the small Fender Champ, maybe using these kinds of pedals through an amp like that would be super cool to show on the channel? I think there's quite a few of us who are stuck with only a small combo amp due to living situations (apartments/flats and whatnot) and can't really explore this range of sound unless if we're using plugins and playing through Neural DSP or something.
Thanks!
Good idea 👌🤟.
They both sound great, the SLO pedal sounded a bit more present than the BE-OD.
Indeed 👌.
Very cool vídeo!
Thanks!
My rig is a Marshall dsl100 with a BE-OD in front being pushed with a SD1. Did the trick for me 🤷♂️
Yeah! 💪
I find a Tube Screamer sounds better with the SLO models. Agree, the SD1 is great with Marshall type amps. Fantastic video! 👍
Indeed 👌. Thanks!
SLO models? modelS ?
Killer demo as always, I’m gonna have to get me another BE-OD pedal. Should have never sold mine. Demo Request, mad professor 1 pedal.
Thanks! Have to see if I can get my hands on one 👌.
I had to make sure that i was looking at what i was hearing, and i would have thought the opposite with these pedals as the Soldano had more mids than the Friedman.
Anyways the both sound great.
Did you use the low input with these pedals?
I hear lots of talk about the low input on these amps. It makes sense because the low input has the 10k cathode resistor/ cold clipper.
Thanks you the video. 😎☺️
Have the SLO.
Highly recommend.
Great video. Thanks Euge.
🙏🤟
Both are great pedals that sound pretty similar you can dial either of them up to get what you need.
👌
Great video, inspiring playing, and the usual sick Euge tone! I will try the SLO pedal through the Friedman BE-100 deluxe and Mezzabarba Trinity 100 amplifiers after dialing it in through the Marshalls, naturally.
Thanks! Cool!
id say both are cranking apples to oranges when i worked in the music bizz ive met manny guitarist some had refridgerator racks full of whoknows what loool then it was simple 2 marshall heads biased correctly into 2 marshall cabs in stereo vintage 30s a les paul a guitar tech boom good to go whatever floats youre boats happy holidaze yall stay safe much love all
👌😎. Likewise!
they seem to have similar levels of drive. Really both are great and the difference to me could be easily the EQ on the pedals or adding an external EQ
Indeed.
Your Marshall does sound great!
All of them 😎🤟.
I don’t care about pedals, Im here for riffing.🤘🤘🤘🤘
Sick playing as always!!!!
🤟😎. Thanks!
Both good ... but the little tone difference and clarity, I'd definitely go wit Soldano. Sounds killer.
Those pedals sounds great, but it´s even better with distortion comming from the tubes of an amp like you mentioned,
💪
Best video yet for me I have a marshall 2204s that really don't get that dirty and I think the friedman pedal would be the best pedal for it . I was going to retire the marshall and have been using a h&k black spirit but now I think it's time to break my bad boy back out. It's all ready beat to shit I've been using it since I was 15 with a boss gt6 .
Cool! Thanks!
I didn’t think I needed the SLO pedal, since I already have a BEOD Deluxe, but…I guess I need an SLO pedal.😂
😎🤟
Do you think that with some tweaking and adding a tube screamer or EQ one can come close to a mesa boogie mark series amp with the SLO pedal??
Thank you! Good demo!!
I guess as close as one can get like with any pedal vs a real tube amp. Thanks!
I have the BE OD on my pedalboard I must say the Soldano seems to have a bit more meat in the overall sound cuts a bit more
Nice comparison! Forgive me if I missed, you running a noise gate? I do not recall you mentioning the 'noise-floor' comparison SLO vs BE-OD, I have heard the BE-OD is noisy, your thoughts on the noise level of the SLO?
Thanks! I think I had a Fortin Zuul set to minimum just to get rid of the small his that pretty much all pedals, especially od/dist/gain ones produce.
I tried and didn't like the soldano pedal, thought it was overrated distortion pedal. But I ran it through a valvestate 20w combo. The combo's preamp sounded way better than the pedal. I just got my JCM 800 today and Im waiting for my suhr IR box to arrive to try it out. I'd be willing to give the friedman a try though. No replacement for tubes though!! Yours sound good enough, I like that you use it for live in a convenient compact reliable set up. I looked at kemper and stuff, but who knows with reliability and stuff with that
Great Video again. The friedman is like the All time classic of pedals 🤣..... can you make a Demo with one of your esp guitars vs the New Harley Benton les paul with emg 70s Set?
Thanks! I have to see if MusiX has Bentons 👌.
👍👍funny...i have a fender champ 12 and want to get the tone i have with a marshall...knew i was on the right track checking with you about the be od ! cheers, mate ! 🎸🎸
i have a Hughes and Kettner Trilogy and a Carvin X100B, and between those two i can get some amazing tones. but when i hear these two pedals i find myself going "i want both" great tones, especially through a tube amp.
Thanks!
In my experience, American voiced high gain circuits play nicer with clean boost or an Ibanez/Maxon Tube screamer, or any pedal based off the Texas Instruments 4558 and the TS808/TS9 type of sound. Meanwhile, amps that are really low end heavy like the Dual Rectifier and certain Orange amps, really respond well to the Nobels or Clon type circuit overdrive. Some amps, like the JCM 800, Orange Rockerverb, and the 5150, play nice with either or and it really comes down to preference and what sound you're going for, but others really need to be paired with the right OD pedal, or else they need to be used in a very specific way to make it work, and it's kinda boxing you in with what sounds you can get to from there as far as making an individual, unique to you tone. Too many bands sound the same, regardless of what gear they use. At least, that's my take.
👌🤟
I just got SOLDANO SLO but it doesn`t sound loud enough! I have an EVH 5150 Overdrive and never have any issues with it.
Cool. In my little bedroom rig, I'm running a poor man's version of this, a cheapo knockoff tube screamer into a Tone City Golden Plexi into a Crate GX212 clean channel, and at the beginning of the video, I was thinking, "I wish he would run the OD-1 into the Friedman, I wonder how that sounds." And then you did just that. Too cool.
SD-1, not OD-1, I mean.
👌🤟
😎
I use a strong valve buust (has an Ax7) before SLO-pedal. It doesn't like OD that well. No need for extra gain anyways. It sings.
Hi Euge , Thanks for your great work, your videos are beautiful. I would like to know how you set the marshall eq to work well 80 ' years sound whit friedman tone. Tnx
Thanks! Just use your ears to find the sweet spots. Too much low end=lower the bass, too little mids=add more mids etc. I don’t have any set settings but just dial the tone depending what I’m looking for, the cab/speakers/mics I’m using etc. The cab & speakers play a huge part of the overall tone so I can’t say what settings works for what. Here’s how I do it: ua-cam.com/video/vCxlsdErftk/v-deo.html
Euge Valovirta and Andrei Cerbu are the "greatest" secrets on UA-cam. ...shhhhhh.! You don't have to do this and yes, as always I found it interesting and informative. If I may, I will add inspiring.. Thank you for sharing Euge, we who have found u are blessed..
Oh thanks man! 🙏☺️
I must admit that I bought half of the equipment after your recommendation! greetings
😎👌🤟
The BE-OD is a more smooth and tight, but scooped. The SLO definitely has more midrange and more definition overall.
On my fly rig I run an MXR 10-band after the BE-OD and boost 1K and 2K a bit.. makes the BE-OD sound like smoother/tighter version of the SLO pedal.
Why are your riffs so ridiculously good? XD Both pedals sound great, but I prefer the SLO.
🤷😎. Thanks!
both sound great! almost identical! (to my ears). I like the BE-OD simply because it a bit more versátil. your riffs and solo always amazing! thanks for this!
Thanks man!
I saw few reviews of SLO and they didn't do it in a propper way. But you did.
Thanks!
I haven't even watched the video yet. Right now, I feel like a kid waking up on Christmas morning.
😎🤟
Great playing !! Ala' Jake E Lee riff style.
Thanks!
Apples to Oranges. Both are great pedals. Cheers 🍺🍺🍺😎🎸🎸
🤟👌😎
That story about the fender champ is hilarious 😅😅😅
😎🤟
I like the sound of both pedals, but I'm leaning towards the Friedman. I'm curious how it would sound like in my Blackstar HT stage 60 with WGS ET-65 &RETRO 30. Any thoughts on what it would sound like??
Ive owned EVH pedal, Revv G3, AMT S2 (soldano clone) and a raft of others, all sold. The Friedman BEOD pedal outshone all of them through any tube amp. Its just got that beautiful focused cranked Marshall tone that brings a smile to my face every time.
At this point I think you could play through a small Gorilla combo amp from the 80's and somehow make it sound incredible haha 🤣 Love the videos !
😎👌. Glad to hear! Thanks!
hey ! do you know why nobody uses such pedals as boosts . meaning as you do with sd-1 ?
boost each other like SLO into Be-Od or amps. I think this could & would bring surprising results .
They’re basically full frequency preamps so quite different from basic overdrives like SD-1 which has a narrow frequency spectrum (mids). I’ll show this in the video 😎.
Hey Euge! Do you run your Friedman BE OD on 9v or 18v? apparently (according to some uknown to me people on the internet) 18 V works better with this pedal. I'm getting this pedal in a couple of days, so just asking in advance. if you have some knowledge on the topic I would appreciate it!
I haven’t used it in few years but when I did just 9V. Never even tried with 18V ’cos didn’t find a need. If it does the job and ain’t broken…😎
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks for taking the time to reply. It's always fun to watch your videos
im sittin here going, wtf guitar is that and a window pops up with the guitar and pup info and tuning. Luv that. So many people do not provide that info as far as tunings and pups. And talk about efficient finger movement. dayam.
great comparison.i find the friedman more smooth than the soldano.probably i’ll get one. nice riff.reminds me a lot of devils daughter by ozz ✊
Thanks!
Thanks Euge, great comparison video…
Maybe Friedman feels more compressed and soldando, more open…
Both are very midrange boost, like Marshall’s sound…
Maybe if you uses more like preamp, I mean, connect guitar into pedal and then to “return” of the fx loop to bypass the Marshall’s preamp…
Greetings from Chile Euge..
Thanks! Yeah I did that on this video and didn’t like it that much: ua-cam.com/video/jTBXhMCTzKo/v-deo.html
@@EugeValovirta230V ok, i was seeing it…you have the reason… thanks….
Speaking of pedals: since you've bought ADA MP-1 I'd like to see & hear comparison between original MP-1 preamp and newer MP-1 pedal.
If I get my hands on that someday 👌.
dioooos , suenan bestial, cual de los 2 recomiendas?
For more British style Marshall tone the Friedman, for more American Soldano tone the SLO 👌.
Think I will stick with my mxr 5150 od , it’s just a bit more Marshall like . The Soldano and Friedman pedals do sound great though 🤘
🤟
that's the best I've heard the SLO pedal sound, but I still think the Friedman is better, even more noticeably so during the single string riffing
Glad to hear! Thanks!
Obviously a great player can make anything sound good- and Euge is a very good player. I like the SLO pedal a bit better just because it's got that full and thick midrange. However, I don't care about any pedal simulating an amp, as long as I have my 800 and a booster.
Word 😎🤟.
How would either pedal sound through a Roland JC120? I know a little strange but would still like your opinion.
No idea. I’d need to try that but I don’t have a JC120 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V
Thank you 😊
