Thanks man, great vids. Been looking for bed parts for a while and almost everything is discontinued. Big help. Love these old Yotas. Keep up the good work.
Fiberglass over wood is common in high stress/impact pieces. I work on roller coaster bodies and many have wood in the flooring and flex areas that are Fiberglassed over. Proven to be quite durable. I would definitely go for one of those beds if I drove on salted roads.
I have the Toyotafiberglass panels from Canada on my 88 4Runner and I love them! They've been on the truck for years and still look great. They did the quarter panels, one front fender, and the tailgate. I wish I had put them on the entire truck
I don't think they make the ones with the metal insert anymore. I did come across another used one in Ohio, but it was pretty rusty to the point the fiberglass sides were starting to fall off.
I have a 1986 SR5 Ext cab, would you recommend a fiberglass bed or should I keep looking for a metal replacement? My pickup currently has a flat bed which I use to carry tool boxes and pipe. Not really in a rush but do want a bed by the end of the year.
Id love to get one of those beds, and im not far from BC... i dont even have a Toyota pickup of that year but id be willing to change years just to get a rust proof bed
I never had them on a scale but they don't feel any lighter than the metal beds. I imagine the fiberglass has to be kind of thick and the sheet metal on the metal beds isn't that thick.
Around here in Ohio, they all rot away from road salt. A pre-1995 pickup with a rust free bed is a rare sight. I have a good pic of a rusty bed on my phone, I'll upload it to the comments and you'll be even happier you live out west.
Awesome video man. I have the same bed on my 84' that you have on your 85'. I don't think that gas filler neck is original as mine is almost completely sealed just like your fully fiberglass bed. I hope someone with more knowledge can comment on that actual manufacturer from Indiana as I also have no idea.
@@6thGearGarage my Grandpa bought the same box on your 85 same square inside same goofy tailgate and metal interior and thats exactly how his gas filler hole is. Maybe it was a option from the manufacturer to have it sealed.
How many times were there commercials? I only have it set before the video starts, around 13:44, and then after the video is over. I've had similar comments and wonder if YT is adding extra commercials into videos....
Set before video starts!!, that’s the most annoying place! Why must we look at commercials every time we click on a video? Like I said, to many blood sucking commercials!
Says at the start "I dont know much about these" and then totally informs us all about them! Awesome!!!

Thank you!!

Ben Ruether good to know, thanks!
Great comparison, I didn't even know these existed. See ya soon.

I wish I wasn't so far away from them, I cant imaging the cost of shipping.
Good day - would you have contact information for the supplier? I’m looking to restore my 1984 with the 2.4L Diesel engine.
Thanks for showing us your crack! I still see so many of those trucks around here. They are beat but not rusty. They certainly last forever!!!
Love the Toyota pickup vids👍
Have you found anyone who makes the metal beds? I know you linked the fiberglass one but I feel like the metal may be cheaper

I want one a fiberglass bed so bad! My front fenders are the high clearance ones from that company here in BC Canada you mentioned.
Thats convenient... I've heard they make high quality stuff. I don't wanna know the cost to ship one to OH.
@@6thGearGarage Super high quality. I love my fenders. Wait list for a box is several years at this point though..
cool, thanks for sharing, love these trucks, need to find time to work on my 1987 22r and get it painted
My friend wounl you be kind and tell me if a regular 1990 Toyota cab RWD bed will fit my 1990 Toyota ext cab 4x4? since you are an expert.
Yes it will bolt up, beds are same dimensions
@6th Gear Garage awesome thanks.
I will be buying for 900 is my only choice.

www.toyotafiberglass.com/Truck.htm is the only company I know of that sells new fiberglass beds anymore. They're in Canada.
Magnet (earth magnet) to fix the gas cap, epoxy it in
Great idea!

THey're worth every penny in areas that use road salt.
I want to find one of these beds, are they lighter??

Where can I find a fiberglass bed like this is buy it tomorrow?!?!?
frank ashley I put some links in the description 👍
How much do these retail for ? Has anyone imported these to overseas like Australia ? Wonder what the freight would be
There's only one lace that I know of selling them new, toyotafiberglass.com out of Canada
Wonder how one of these would look on my 1990.
I've seen 89-95 beds on an 84-88 but never the other way around. The wheel opening on the 84-88 isn't as rounded as it is on the 89-95.
i recently bought a 4x4 from indiana and it has the same exact bed, the gas door was the same, pretty bad design that allows the door to flap
i have the same bed on mine fiberglass / steel and gas door has a small magnet.
that's a great idea... thanks!
I didn't even know they made fiberglass beds for these trucks, why would someone get one?

That gas filler door hinge is just a little bent you can bend it back by hand carefully and it will close perfectly

Gabe E good to know! One day, after I get everything else done on my truck, I should redo that area in fiberglass real nice and smooth.

The bed on my 86 is rusting out.. I’m gonna have to look into this! Thank you!!
