Nice. Simple and easily fixed if goes twisted at night with 300 persons watching (always think of high stress fix in design of anything cause it will happen). Minor, but could add an electricians knot to the power cord (knot it inside the box so it cant be pulled out of the hole). Also might want to add a rubber washer with some hotglue/sealant around mechanical hole. If worried about rain and/or sitting water situations (ya never know)
This is such a weird compliment, but for someone that works with their hands so much, your nails are lovely! The tips look like French manicures 🤩 I love the idea of weatherproofing prop mechanisms, and the idea to house them in an electrical box with blank a switch plate cover is genius. To prevent water from coming through the cable opening, I do the following: I let the cable hang down in a small loop outside the housing so that the lowest point of the cable is below the feed into the housing. This way, the water that flows along the cable drips off there. 😃

I'm a big fan of DIY solutions, and there are good ideas here that can be used for other props. In this particular case, though, I think the off-the-shelf solution is a win. "Reindeer" motors are 5-6 RPM synchronous motors that come pre-wired in a weather resistant case with proper gaskets and strain relief. While they're not as cheap as they used to be, if you compare them to the price of a bare motor, extension cord, junction box, and a cover plate, it's about a wash. They're available from at least two of the online haunter supply dealers and at least one Christmas decorations dealer.
Great video.. I wonder if you added a second hinge at the top of the moving board and added another mounting board you would convert the lean forward into more of a lunge forward.

This is only a temporary installation so it probably won't matter but many outdoor boxes stop the rain getting in but they aren't air tight so damp air gets in at night, condenses and warm dry air gets out in the day. As a result the water-proof box slowly fills up with condensation. A hole in the bottom can actually help let the moisture *out* of a waterproof box.

I've used 6mm (~ 1/4") threaded rod and ball joint ends for props like this. It eliminates the slop in the joints and allows the other parts be be done up tightly.
I feel like a better choice would be an outdoor rated box that has a gasket. I live in southeast Texas, and it always rains in October. So I've had to get pretty creative over the years to waterproof props. And wind proof... 🙄😑 Edit... I realized that all did with this comment was to criticize. But. I love your channel. And you're full of great low budget ideas. So keep on keepin on.
For sure. There's definitely a ton of options when it comes to keeping things watertight. This was just what I had on hand. No worries about the comment. I love hearing from the community about how stuff like this could be improved.
I am delayed with my rocking retrofit so I will need to see if I can find a bigger box for the HD motor to fit. This certainly would be much better in my climate.
One tip, that screw and nut connecting the motor to the angle piece…. Use a nylock nut. That is where I have had issues with things getting loose… Great video as always
You may want to check the final weight of your rocking chair & skeleton before building this version since the synchronous motor I used doesn’t have enough torque to move heavier objects. There’s a link in the video description to another motor that should work for your project.

Agreed. The bare motors used to be so cheap $1-3 which made them a great option. But they’re much more expensive these days.

You could also use a small cable gland for the hole that the power cord is going through.

I suppose you could also use the outdoor waterproof boxes as well but this is much better than my method of taping plastic around the wires lol.
