      Question: Do you list those fees in your description? Or just add it in the cost?

  • @999thenewman

    I do a $3 handling fee and it hasn't caused any issues. Go for it. Do not cater or pay any attention to people who don't have money to spend on what they want.

    The important thing here is that a person's time to package and ship does cost time and money. If you were paying someone to work in the "shipping" department, you would want to make sure you were getting money to pay them. Whether it's yourself or another person, it's an expense. Cover it...

    What I do is increase the weight of my items. I know the weight divisions the post office uses. If my item would be 3 oz, I put that it’s 6oz. That way, eBay will charge more for the shipping which pads my shipping income. Basically the same thing in a different way. 😊

    Really interesting video, if things were selling very quickly & regularly as well, then yes you could warrant adding fees. When only 1 or 2 items sell each month, it's rather harder to add extra fees to a listing. The UK is at the worst I have ever seen for years for selling on eBay, the UK is very close to a recession the way things are now. Thank you, Don. Charles in the UK

      I don’t know how many listing you keep up but if only 1-2 items are selling a month and you have a nice amount of listings you might want to look at your listings for better titles and pricing. Just a thought.

      @@Antiqueexcavator Over the last year on here, 2 other people have said the same thing to me, they have had a look at my listings. They can't find what else I can do other than list other items. I do that now as I mix things up with a bit of this and a bit of that, that maybe why I'm able to get upto 2 sales a month. The UK is on the edge of a recession and not many people have got any money.

    Hello! I'm wondering if you would address how you run comps when you purchase items. Lately I've become so annoyed by people who won't step to the side, or end of an aisle - or - stand in front of you at a yard sale blocking everyone from accessing the items -- is it just me, or do other people see the 'professional' resellers who are making their money from youtube videos and just record content (Im not talking about Auction Professor, as he doesn't show himself aggressively running up to a yard sale practically shoving people aside!). Isn't there a protocol we should all try to follow as professionals or hobbyists? etc etc. These people film themselves literally running to cut people off, with their phones hanging out of their pockets -- are we all that desperate?

    I know this a bit of an older video but the reason for Handling Fees isn't to make money off them. Many items people sell have a market price, if yours is the cheapest but carries additional Handling Fees then no buyer would pay more for the same item (of same condition). The main reason for Handling Fees is for cover things like shipping materials, however considering shipping is mandatory for us to make money I will not make my customers pay for what is a business expense.. That is indeed personal preference, after all I charge a flat rate on shipping and make alittle extra money that way since 95% of my items will ship under 8oz so I will make alittle extra money but that is largely due to the discount from eBay shipping labels and me being competitive and selling more items rather than trying to get every dime.

    No more lable discounts. My prices went up a few months ago. It used to save a few cents to buy lable through ebay. Its the exact same price at PO now. I do mostly media mail. It changed 2 moths after i started selling! Maybe if you have a store its different? But it was a little less the first few months.
    And i norm split the difference if a price changes or somethinf. Maybe 60-40

    • @TheAuctionProfessor
      @TheAuctionProfessor  Рік тому +1

      That's not true. The discounts are still there as they always have been. Media Mail has NEVER been discounted at all. It has ALWAYS been the same price online, and at the PO. The discounts are the same as they have been for years.

    In college biz classes they teach that if you try to be the low cost leader then you are setting yourself up to go out of business. Being the cheapest is generally not that smart of a biz plan.

    • @lanier1000
      @lanier1000 Рік тому

      They also teach you that you should make money on every single thing you do -- do nothing for free -- so a handling charge makes sense also.
      Nice tip you gave in this vid for sure.

    This is the only time I've been disappointed in one of your videos...... not because you're advocating for adding handling fees, but because you're OK with hiding the fact from your customers. I can understand why you look so sheepish while speaking about it. If you don't think what you're doing is wrong, why hide it? As a buyer, my bottom line is this...... Buying from online sellers requires a certain amount of trust and I find it hard to trust a seller that is charging me "hidden fees". If you're going to charge handling fees, which I do understand, at least man up about it instead of acting just like ebay.

    • @TheAuctionProfessor
      @TheAuctionProfessor  Рік тому +5

      No one is hiding anything. Nor do I need to "man up". eBay already states on every single listing on the platform "Shipping and Handling" total, which clearly includes the word Handling in regards to cost/fees. Nothing is hiden at all. If it just said shipping with no expectation of a "Handling" fee then it would be hiden. Nearly everyone assumes there's a handling fee already, since it is literally stated as a charge in every single eBay listing active/sold/ended on the site. There is not a single spot of the purchase process that does not state a handling fee is already included in a listing. Even if you do not use a handling fee eBay is already telling your customers that you do!

  • @chrissettles4127

    Ebay lost 90% of the business. Because the new program had so many glitches. One seller that does near ten thousands sales a month had all thier sale post dropped . When they redid a 18 dollar bottle they invoice said he owed 6 dollars. Everyone is pulling out of ebay till they get it straightened out
