Thank you Don!
Best Buy ever, a long-term moving storage auction. At the end the auctioneer was kicking through the packing stuff and I saw 3 framed maps. Everyone else was lined up to pay. Got them for 75$. One of the maps sold for $6000
Holy cow!
WoW, Janet, you must have had some idea that they were worth something when you saw them. You did very well in getting such a huge profit, I'm so jealous of you right now.
I bought I huge frames map of the world from 1864. Is there any way to see the value on these? I got it for 20 bucks at estate sale , it’s French
@@charlesforeman9438 I just saw the one map was old and of Texas. Turned out it was one of only150 ever printed and used by congress to set the boundaries of the state of Texas. Now I even ask the auctioneer if there is anything left over.😏
wow
I found a little thrift store in basically the middle of nowhere country. I walk in there spend maybe 50 bucks max, and walk out with thousands of items. They charge 50 cents per regular item including jewelry even if it's gold. They always keep the paper items for me and sell them to me in bulk. Just recently I walked in there and they pulled a large box of French buttons out. I'm talking thousands of old pinback buttons. They sold Me the entire lot for 10 bucks. The same night I got them I sold 2 of them for 25. Instant profit, the rest is cake. I'll be keeping this place quiet as it's one of the few real places worth sourcing at. It's also In native territory so theirs always tons of native items there.
I picked up 29 hand carved bows for a dollar each. So far I've restrung 2, sold them both local for 120 each. I love pei, my online reselling competition is small. Thanks for the great info as always, you give the best tips, and ive changed my buying habits because of it. Cheers Don, stay safe and take care!
I’ve been reselling for over 40 years. This video has described my formula for making the highest profits for years. Very seldom see competition in my areas of interest at the auctions. Good video.
We went to a thrift store way out in some small out of the way town. Most amazing picks I’ve ever had. Made ten times money on every purchase, I could not believe it. I usually don’t bother with thrift malls
Just a quick note about live auctions. Make sure to apply for a sales tax exemption number from your state, and then present that number to the auctioneer when getting your bid number. This will save lots of money over time. Live auctions also can vary in nature quite a bit, and getting there early can help. I recommend making some notes on items and/or lots you're interested in beforehand and then pay close attention as the auction progresses. Those guys move fast and it's easy for good stuff to fly away before signaling a bid.
To get to anything similar to what you are talking about it is 55 miles west through the mountains or 55 miles sould through the desert. We don't have a lot a anything in my area.
Since I do cleanouts I look for the houses where people have been owners for a long time. People put stuff away and never look at it again.
I know this is an older video but this information is awesome!! I’ve learned a ton watching your vids Don!! Keep up the awesome work!
That is the issue these days, there are so many people going around these places now, looking for something for next to nothing. It's not like 10 or 20 years ago at all, as I remember going around Carboot sales here in the UK when they first started. Been very quiet the last 2 or 3 years with the pandemic stopping these car boot sales. I remember in the 1990s onwards that they were are just packed out, & people behave like Hyenas. They very often didn't even let people get things out of the cars & set up, as they pile into the boots of cars & so much stuff was pinched in the crowds. It's so much more civilised doing this sort of thing on websites compared to those days, as I'm disabled I'm unable to get out to get to auctions and I have never thought of looking Live Auction sites online other than eBay. Such a great video, & thank you so much for sharing Don. Charles in the UK
Years ago I remember recognizing a nice lady from the antiques roadshow out picking at a SA thrift store. Very discretely we approached her and struck up a short and wonderful conversation. She was incredibly smart, had a great eye and very helpful. These days when I see her on the show it brings a smile. She remains incredibly smart and has a great eye.
Some of my very best picks have been at estate sales at mobile home parks.
Interesting
Lots of boxes of great things
you research people for estate sales similar to how I research people that are losing storage units. yes, sometimes the auction company only list the units or just say they have x amount at such and such locations in their ads but what I watch is the legal notices. I get the owners name, unit number and what facility it is at. Before any storage units is sold off for storage fees they have to be advertised first thru the legal notice section of the main newspaper for that area at least in my state they do. Helps me decide if I want to buy an early unit or do I wait for a later unit.
So awesome to see you at almost 100K subs!
You're so right about the yard sales. The newer neighbors will yield some video games but that's not my bag. But get me to some old mill town having a townwide and it's game on!
Good Info. Goodwill hasn't had anything good in their stores since they launched their own auction site 10 years ago. I hit estate sales all the time. As well as I buy a few local storage lockers so sell locally.
Goodwill and Salvation Army here resemble someone’s forgotten about basements, minus anything cool
One of the best videos on this subject I've seen. Thanks!
I still find things at my local GW but I sell specific types of clothing and GW hasn't gotten wise yet to the value of it. But items are getting more scarce so this is great info as usual. This is a. "jobby" for me but bc of your info I could make a living doing reselling if I had to thank you so much Im eternally grateful for your generous sharing of your knowledge
This video is so helpful, Don. I live in a State that is overflowing with online sellers and sourcing items out here is very competitive.
I just need to get my brave-on and be more adventurous with my sourcing locations.
Thank you, Professor!
Thanks for your great episodes, love watching what you can find in the US, M France
I just found your channel it’s awesome Great advice learning so much. I just watched the Pyrex video I am on the hunt (love retro pyrex and fire king ). Thank you for all your hard work !
Thanks, great video as always. My friend keeps me updated on thrift stores etc. here in Maryland close to Washington DC. Some people stay in there all day, half the day is not unusual, and they load their carts with items that are just coming out for sale. Then they try to sell things to other shoppers that they haven't even bought yet.
yeah I've seen them go into the bins buy up suit cases and things then go outside and sell it to people who were coming out. Hey he made a little bit of money and the people coming out picked up good items so they could resell -- win win here. If a picker did that here I'd be willing to buy from them. So far no one has been out in the parking lot selling their wares.
Thanks Don. Priceless info especially with regard to the so called "Thrift Stores" these days.
I have had a lot of luck shopping at my local Goodwill Outlet. They sell most items by the pound. I can fill an entire grocery cart with electronics, household items, purses, etc., and I mean FILL, for less than $20. They have locations in almost every state in the U.S. It's worth the drive if you don't have a location close to you. Mostly everything is in bins, so be prepared to dig a little bit, and wear gloves if you can. The best time to go is in the morning, because they do most of their restocking at night. They do put out new stock all throughout the day, as well, so if you see someone that just came out of the warehouse with a cart full of "fresh items," follow behind them so you can snag anything good before anyone else see them. FYI...People can be a little aggressive sometimes.
I found these prices online, but I haven't gone in a while, so I can't confirm that these are the current prices.
Priced per pound:
Electronics - $0.69 per pound
Glassware - $0.69 per pound
Home Goods/Clothing/Textiles under 25 lbs.- $1.59 per pound
Home Goods/Clothing/Textiles over 25 lbs. - $1.29 per pound
Shoes & Purses under 25 lbs. - $1.59 per pound
Shoes & Purses over 25 lbs. - $1.29 per pound
Priced per Unit:
DVDs & CDs - $1, Albums - $1, VHS Tapes - $1
Computer Games - $1, Books: Hardcover & Paperback - $1
Priced Individually: Bikes and Oversized Items
Thank you so much. I've been wanting to move up a Gear as I'm gaining support from others. This Video has helped me decide what my Aims are. Thanks 😊
Thanks from Pittsburgh !
Thanks for some fresh ideas Don!
I really appreciate your channel and have learned a lot from you. Do you happen to have an audio podcast? I understand that some of your shows are visual and that wouldn't work but some of your episodes would be great to listen to, like this one, while commuting. Thanks again for sharing your vast knowledge!
Great advice, Don! I’ve taken a hiatus from sourcing while we’re having our house painted, but these tips are great for the future! I am curious about your pickers... can you say more about how you find them and what incentives do you need to give them so they don’t sell the stuff themselves? Thanks!! :)
Church rummage sales have been a good source for me. Theyre not pricing the stuff by checking easy they just slap a dollar or less on everything
Excellent points clear understanding of what needs to be done. Donatella Botolino advised me to checkout your channel. Best advice ive had in a long time. Thank you sir.
Thanks!
Thank you so much @aja4717
great advise, thank you! I'm new to re-selling and learning as much as I can....cheers
What is the link to your eBay store?
Thanks
Don, what about match boxes & fold over match packs for reselling? A local thrift shop has dozens of packs with varying logos/designs for 50 cents each. They seem to do well according to eBay solds.
You mean the match covers without the matches? I sell matchbooks and matchboxes along with covers and yes they do sell well. Volume though is the key -- you'll have to just get out there and get your feet wet -- don't get discouraged they can be high value but most are bread and butter
Thanks Don I have been a watcher for a long time. Great content!
I have to say, growing up in Toledo and learning to thrift there years ago....and now coming back to visit after years of living and thrifting around the country....it's depressing. You're right, there was nothing good the last couple times I've been there these recent years. Reynolds Rd GW used to be pretty good 10-12 years ago, downtown GW was interesting. StVDP downtown was a real treasure trove long time ago but I don't even know when it closed. I never did any estate sales in OWE and would love to.
How do you pay your pickers? Thanks Don!
Cool research tips!
How about a hospice thrift store ?
AuctionZip: Nothing within 50 miles of me. At 100 miles it takes me to Los Angeles, a 3 hour drive in traffic
I normally find all my stuff at Goodwill. However I specifically search for anything crystal though that's like at 2 to 3 dollars a piece. It normally sells in a blink of an eye. Especially anything foreign like Italian or French. Specifically the lead crystal though, I don't know why people like it so much..
I guess it also depends on location aswell well because around where I'm from anyways they always have a lot of good stuff every week.. especially right after the weekend. last week I went in there and they had a pair of Marquis by Waterford Treviso crystal candlesticks that went for over $100 online and they're only selling them for like 12 for the pair. Either there's not a lot of resellers in my area or they don't know what they're putting on their shelves and that's good for me at least.
Thank you for all the great info!
wondering how you find this information as most due to privacy acts and family requests dont allow you to find out anything about the person or persons who owned the items.
One of your better videos -- thanks
I have 3 storage units full of everything old ...lol
...it was willed to me. I keep paying rent on them, because I just don't know what to do with it all...it's overwhelming...
We're is it? (City/state?)
Sounds like a good problem to have!
If you can, pick one box at a time and deal with the contents before moving to the next box.
Pm me. Always looking thx

How do you find pickers?
Thank you
Straight fire🔥advice...🤘🏼💯✔️
So how do I get to where I can afford to make estate sale purchases? Reselling clothes?!
Great tips, thank you 👍
Well, I think I figured out why I almost never see the kind of stuff you sell. In my city, we've had two estate sales this year so far. Flea markets occur maybe once a month in the summer. I just live in the wrong place.
You and me BOTH!
Great tips thanks for sharing!
We have two local auction houses. I've bought from them a couple times, and my goal is to do this more often. I'm struggling because where I am is rural, and they always end auctions on Sunday nights, then pickup is Tuesday, but it's about a 1.5 hr drive one way. Timing has to be just right and with ebay being down as much as it is, it's literally crippling me financially. As a disabled widow, I was really relying on my income week by week, and it's been rough. But I'm trying to use any extra money towards this goal- buying box lots at the auction. They have some that go for super cheap. Boxes of what I'd call, "chotskies", little animal figurines, costume jewelry, pins, papers, old church cookbooks, crafting items which I love to sell. So I need to do this more!
Do you ever go to Storage Auctions?
Bought great things at thrift stores to flip for huge profit
Don, I disagree with you. You ARE special and we all know it. Thanks!
I seem to find stuff where ever I go,, dumb luck
No table lots in SF. Never heard of it
Pray to Saint Anthony....he helps you f I ND stuff
made the mistake of buying vintage ham radio call cards, that was a mistake.
Have always loved Dick VanDyke. I know theres a lot of bad said about him. A lot of good about Mary. Dick is still with us and we so love Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
you have pickers in your employment? or do you mean family members?
Wrong with respect, the fancy houses have generations of things, vintage and unique
EVERYONE is selling here in CA. Estate sales are a joke. I haven't seen a church sale happening in years. Thrift stores are closing too...guess their 'online' sales are the most profitable. Which is ironic b/c thrift stores were never meant to be an online business., they were supposed to be community oriented.
Very discouraged that the inventory in CA is pretty much non-existent or drastically over-priced.
