Thanks Amy for your reminder tip to not press after each step. I started using my favorite “stiletto” tool, an old wooden pottery hand tool. One end is wide wedge point and other is flat rounded, like a thumb. This tool is also great for finger pressing.
I agree with the planning part…I have done a couple of mystery quilts and not having any idea of layout and coordination has resulted in a dog bed that our dog refuses to get near!
As a new quilter, I went to an annual get together at a local guild. Had a list of many light, dark, med fabric cut to a zillion different sizes. A mystery quilt, so we had no idea of the design. So I chose the fabric, cut it up, and tried to sew per instructions each week. After week 2, I threw it in a box and quit going to the meetings.
I discovered your channel by accident this evening and really loved the way you broke everything down. I am a planner by nature but a slow worker and your method spoke to me. I don't label incomplete projects, I refer to them as Ph.D's. It just sounds more promising than UFO.
What a fun quilt journey. Love "crinkly and full of quilty goodness." For many years I've kept multiple Leader/Ender kits in a plastic shoe box so I am always ready to go. I learned this from my sister (she called them "betweens" because she made them in between other quilts.) who cut her scraps into 2.5x4.5 bricks then sewed in pairs: dark to light. Eventually the L/E became 2-rail fence quilts. But I have a wide variety of projects ready to go. I also love having my main project cut & ready to sew - although sometimes I hold off on cutting binding because I might change my mind when I see the finished quilt.
I have my units done for the flying geese quilt. Been staring at it for 6 months. Time to finish putting them together when my Juki gets home from its annual cleaning. Thanks for the boost Amy❤; a WONDERFUL video.
I have a red, black, and white “potato chip” block that I use as leaders and enders when piecing. This means I have 2 quilts going at the same time. One of my friends said that would drive her crazy 😂
I love cats. Hearing your cat was so nice to hear. I have two cats.
He’s a sweetie!

Great idea!! I love when a well used tool has multiple uses. Thanks so much!

It was supposed to be a lap quilt
Oh no! I struggle with mysteries for that reason as well. Thanks for watching!

Oh what a bummer of an experience! Sometime a project needs to move out of your life so you can move forward.
Please do a video on labels.
I just emailed my friend Tara and hopefully we’ll record when I see her in October!

Some people can’t do it and I prefer to just sew squares rather than things that must be though about but your chip blocks sounds like fun!
Hello Beautiful!
