I am a French mother tongue Swiss living in India, and yes, French in many aspects, but emotionally guys, you are the Italians of India 😆, totally Italian! The hugs, hyper loving, then suddenly cursing you and all. The world would be sad without our Italian and bengali brothers and sisters ☺.

As always, an absolutely beautiful and interesting video. We have been exploring the Bengali and Italian (specifically Neapolitan) connection (albeit with comedy) for a while now, and have found huge similarities as well. Many of the points you have captured in this video specifically that of art and culture are very valid for the Italian connection as well. The importance of tight family bonding and the respect that the mothers and grandmothers have in an Italian family also is a very strong similarity. We are currently working on a series on similar lines but the other way around “Italians are the Bengalis of Europe”, this is because Europe as a whole can be compared to India w.r.t the fact that cultures, traditions languages change every few hundred kilometers so a state in India can be correlated to a country in Europe. As ardent fans of India in Pixels, we’d go bonkers if you’d agree to collaborate with us and do a deep dive into the Bengali Italian connection as well. What say?
Man I cried after so many days, I cant believe it myself. Watching this video made me feel like those good old days when I was hungry for knowledge, I used to see your videos instead of studying for exams. I was happy then, but now I cant even recognize myself. This is not me, with these soggy eyes and bags of sleep under my eye balls. This is not me who is scared to sleep cause of these nightmares. I am becoming my own enemy!! I WANTED TO LET IT OUT, I WANTED TO CRY AND THANKS TO YOU I DID. ALWAYS LOVE YOUR WORK. Bhaskar here from Santiniketon

For those who will try to translate to know what it means, it goes : in terms of pronounciation, Bengali is a very matured language. The default translation is a bit wrong.
I think Japanese is also very similar to Bengali. Example: 1. Khete chai = Tabe tai (食べたい) Sunte chai = kiki tai (聞きたい) Jete chai = iki tai (行きたい) Chaa pan kori na = Ocha o nomi nai (お茶を飲みない) 2. Bujhi na = wakara nai (分からない) Khai na = tabe nai (食べない) Jai na = ika nai (行かない) Kichu na = nandemo nai (何でもない) 3. Boka = Baka (バカ) 4. School e jabi na? = Gakkou ni ika nai? (学校に行かない?) Aksathe porbi na? = Isshoni benkyoshi nai? (一緒に便器好しない?) Bhat khabi na? = Gohan o tabe nai? (ご飯を食べない?) 5. Tor naam Rahul na? = Anata no namae wa Rahuru, ne? (あなたの名前はラフル、ね?)
As a student at IIT Kharagpur, I had the wonderful opportunity to immerse myself in the rich tapestry of Bengali culture, and it truly captured my heart . Among all the languages I've encountered, Bengali stands out as the sweetest and most endearing.❤
Thanks for showcasing the bengali culture in such a beautiful way. In today's world, where ethnicity is such a topic for hot debate and planned homegenity is propagated in name of unity, this video will help in showcasing the unique nature of the sweet Bengali language and culture. Thank you
Ashrish, well done on your video! It got me thinking deeply about Bengal's vibrant cultural tapestry. Particularly,of the late 18th-century influx of artists from France. Imagine it as a pre-Instagram era, where portraits served as artistic souvenirs, carrying snapshots of life across continents. But these weren't just any artists. Think French portrait painters catering to British officials, their canvases more than just likenesses - they were threads woven into the very fabric of Kolkata and Bengal. The brushstrokes of influence extended far beyond portraits, though. Landscape artists like the Daniells Uncle-Nephew duo captured India's breathtaking beauty, perhaps inspiring local eyes to see their own place anew. And even French hairstylists left their mark, their innovative techniques adding new threads to Kolkata's fashion tapestry. This artistic migration wasn't just about canvases; it was like an artistic fingerprint pressed onto the city's DNA, influencing everything from hairstyles and cuisine to the very spirit of Kolkata. Thinking about it further, what struck me most was how this cross-cultural exchange transcended time. Even in our age of digital snapshots, I see echoes of those artistic exchanges from long ago. Each photo we share connects us, just like those 18th-century portraits bridged continents. So, thank you, Ashrish, for prompting this journey of exploration.
I'm very emotionally attached to my language so when non Bengali outsiders in our state ask me to stop speaking Bangla and go somewhere else, it hurts. I hope we all try to respect each other's ethnicity, language and boundaries. This video is refreshing. Thank you.
In the current era of so much toxicity and hate, this channel is so refreshing to watch man! Loved how you embrace each tradition in its own beautiful way!
I have always a opinion that the French and the Bengali has a relationship between them. But after seeing the video, my opinion got truth, I am a people of Chandannager and also a French lover. I always looking for like this Video. Thanks, give us more information like this. Vive La France, Vive La Bengal...
being a bangali, i can say your videos are so much powerful in creating a linguistic interest for someone who does not have any idea about how languages work 😀 thank you for making these videos!

Trust me this brought a tear to my eye. Im a Bengali based in EU and coincidentally i was telling the exact same thing on NYE to one of my friends, that Paris feels a lot like home but I couldnt pinpoint why! I think this is the most illustrated and beautiful videos on our cultural parallels. Thanks for this!
As a Bengali and an inhabitant of Chandannagar, I'm glad that you visited our Jagaddhatri puja and invite you to visit next year too. I am always delighted to see your well-made and informative videos. Keep up the good work.
As a Bengali who learned French in school for 5 years, as much as I hated it for all the complexities and inconsistencies French had with its phonetics, I have to admit that I never realised or noticed until now that my own language had just as many phonetical irregularities and inconsistencies as French. Most likely because it's my mother tongue, and it all just comes out naturally for me (same would go for French people). So I just never noticed it, as a native speaker. However, those 5 years of learning French as a foreign language were absolute chaos.
English also has this quality as well. Though/Tough/Cough/Brough. Jodi tui native-speaker kojo, tomar Français onek bhqlo hobe. Ami jani because ami French sikheji school e.(Apologies; my Bangla is not that good either.)
Ive never had such interest in arts before. I cant believe i have watched this whole 30 minutes non stop without realising. Bravo. You must be one of the best back in your college days.
Im a Mauritian so i grew up speaking both French and english And I've always found Bengali to be such a beautiful language!! And I've had a lot of Good Bengali Classmates n friend Its sound kinda similar!
4:20 apart from their sweet language, french peoples especially ancient kingdoms weren't kind like bengali speaking peoples and i wonder why on earth this odia guy is using bengali as a race every time instead of a language!
Ever since I heard the French language, I always used to think that Bengali is the French of India and vice versa, but today, watching a detailed video on the viewpoint I thought only I had for years made me so happy. Thank you Ashris for making this video, this is indeed special to me!
Oh my goodness! This man is making me fall for Bengali tradition, language, culture, history , idiology and also their creativity . I am really happy to say that i am on the path of falling, keep it up man , you know how presents video very beautifully. Love and support from Maharashtra 😇 ( peace)
I am a Bangladeshi born French and yes i speak both languages but have not thought about the similarities between these two cultures. It's fascinating how similar we are in terms of language and mentality. I can now share with my french colleagues and friends about our indifferent attitude towards reality 😊😊

As a resident of chandannagar ( Chandernagore in French precisely) i am totally agree with the facts. As it was being the official language of chandernagaore in the french times. Still the culture of French still lingered here. Majority of school and colleges here either have mandetory or selective courses from as early as class 5 . ( Even i took french in school ).Teachers are very supportive here regarding the aspect of learling french here. French tourists come here every year on a cruise like large boat ( that boat covers siteseeing from Calcutta to Bandel it is a government aided tourism boat) Mentioned in the video * . So sometime our french teachers act as guides to them and conversation goes in fullblown parisian french. Even Neline Mondal (here in the video) is a renowned guide here (earlier she was a representative of U.N) . Neline mondal and our teachers of both held a guild of french learners. Chandernagore is full of french monuments and buildings . We have a Christian church, french governors house , french graveyard , two museums , a destroyed fort ( by Britishers, but they had no control over this land) and numerous french architecture. And best of all we have a kilometre long broadwalk ,we call it ( "The Strand" , by french obviously) of full lush green trees and lit by three headed gaslamps from the french era headed just adjacent to the ganges headed towards the 18- 19 th century french buildings. It's a common hangout spot for the people of chanderagore . In the "strand" After the monsoon when the sky is lit by spongy clouds u can feel the pleasant breeze from the ganges, the murmur of trees , it feels like u are in France itself . A feeling of romantic poetic mood would ovewhelm you . If U could manage to get a seat in a benche in strand and u would cherish the feeling being Champs Élysées , avec avenue de Paris. Weird mixture of bengali and french feelings. I am glad i live here, where bengali and french culture blend together. And gave their offerings to the city of Chandernagore, how similar we are, thank u iip!!! ❤ J’espère que ça aide❤ AU REVOIR, MES AMIS !!! ❤😊 😊❤
wow, i am actually from Chandannogor, and am just soo impressed by your videos, as i dont know much about mother tongue Bengali as much coz of being born and brought up in Hyderabad. Thank you for making such amazing content and helping me on my journey to understand my language....😊

তুমি জীও গুরু ! Since I've been hooked into your videos from last 2-3 years, I know how much you love and admire Bangla language, culture and everything else that's Bengali. This gives us, the Bengalis a chance to love our own language a little bit more time and again. Furthermore, having been a student of Linguistics, I just love the way you present such topics with your vibrant and dynamic ways. Keep pouring your heart on the work you do and keep winning our hearts! ❤️
I am a Bengali currently living in Belgium for work. You have made an amazing video. One of the best videos I came across on UA-cam. I just have one small comment. The title of the video is only about the languages. But the video is so much more. ❤
Nice material and very well presented. Interesting fact UNESCO promote International Mother Language Day because of this very beautiful language which was almost extinct due to politics. Now an estimated 172 million native speakers in Bangladesh and 102 million native speakers in West Bengal. Thank you to the people who fought to keep this language alive.
This is gem! As a Bengali and enthusiastic french learner, I enjoyed the whole video and loved how he articulated the congruities and idiosyncrasies of both cultures.
You forgot to mention another similarity that serving of Bengali cuisine (a multi-course tradition where food is served course-wise, usually in a specific manner) more or less resembles the à la russe style of French cuisine where food is brought out in sequence and served in portions.😊☺
I am a regular viewer of your awesome videos which contain unique thoughts and I love the way you discuss all those topics as well. I am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 naturally I'm Bengali so I can relate to all the ideas throughout the whole video. I'm eagerly waiting for the next one. Happy New Year. 🎉

Merci beaucoup. Oshonkno dhonnobad for making this video. I am a Bengali pursuing English and side by side have started learning French. This is so surreal to me seeing that a foreign that too an international language having similarities to Bengali. Everywhere I go, people say "Oo! Bengali is such a sweet language". I took pride in it. But people also saying French is a sweet language didn't make sense to me. But seeing the parallelisms and co-relation along with your in depth study made me open my mind for French.
Bro actually Chandanagar was earlier known as "Forashdanga" means banks of the French since the town is located beside the Hooghly river. Also there was a person called Hensman Antony of Portuguese origin popularly known as "Anthony Firingee".There are movies about him with title "Anthony Firingee" and "Jaatishwar". Kolkata's Firingi Kalibaari was made by him.
I am from Chandannagar and my grandfather and all his brothers had their early education in French. We still have French language schools here. It's so satisfying to see your video where you have highlighted the two best things about my hometown. I love how you beautifully connect Bangla and French. Amazing !
as a student of Presidency University of Kolkata i do feel that french culture and here the cultures are similar. the architecture is beautiful, we have that hint of rebellion inside of us, along with that creativity and intellectual casual talks. hope that this doesn't die down with time
As a Bengali, we appreciate the way you express love for our language. At times When many bengali native people are ashamed to talk in bengali, your exploration of the language is truly commendable. Huge respect to you, brother. Thanks once again for creating such in-depth content!

I loved the whole video. What I loved especially the most is the use of AI to depict illustrations of two womens of Bengal and French having a blast together. Those were too sweet and beautiful!
Wonderful content. The child trafficking theme pandal was originally from Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata this year. It was breathtaking. Nowadays they recycle some of these theme pandals for pujas like Jagadhatri Puja that come after Durga Puja . Which is great because such beautiful intricate works of art should be preserved as long as possible and seen by many.

Thank you so much for drawing the parallels between french and bengali and promoting my tiny yet beautiful and historically significant hidden hometown to the world. It was much needed ❤️
My home town is also Chandannagar.. living far far away from there.. not got chance to visit in last 6 years!! I miss the strand road, gali, hinger kachuri near court ghat and yes Jagadhatrai puja!!
When I visited Chandannagar last week, I met a dadu on a toto who said the same thing to me "bangali ra aar forasi ra ekdom eki rokom chhilo", I did not completely understand why. He tried explaining but since he reached his destination soon I didn't get a chance to ask the many questions I had. So thank you so much for this video, this is probably exactly what he meant!

As a french with Bangladeshi partner, I was so happy to see this video. You were very on point with french language and cultural references, maybe the only thing I do not agree is the video saying Paris is dirtier than New York city, since they grabbed the video during a strike of the garbage collectors where there was a lot of trash outside which usually are not. I enjoyed learning more about Bengali culture and we also felt this conception of shared personality/cultures sometimes with my Bangladeshi partner as we really like to debate, especially about politics, and both know the importance to acknowledge our rights and fight for it if necessary. But maybe I think Bengali culture has more of a poetic touch than French, from what I understood there is a music culture (like people gathering and singing together) which is not so much common in France nowadays. We can sometimes be very direct and some people try to avoid being romantic or poetic. I hope to visit both Bangladesh and India one day, and I will definitely want to see the places you shared in the video!!
There is only one problem, there is actually a vast cultural difference between Bangladeshis and Bengalis from West Bengal! To be honest apart from the language and a few common ingredients in the cuisine, there are no other elements in common. Please visit Kolkata and West Bengal as a whole during your trip to India.

I was kind of aware about the similarities between french and bengali language and common behaviour.....but I really got to know a lot about the cultural oppression that both of these cultures faced. I even did researched about dadaism and impressionism in college back in 2021 and your video made me recall all of that.😇😇😇

@@sdg3066 first of all you need to understand the regional linguistic difference of Bengal and your hindi/urdu. Every region has its unique linguistic accent and words like Sylheti, Chattogrami, Dhakaiya, Noakhailla, Cumillaian, Borisailla, Rangpuri and in the west side of BD (like Khulna etc have pure standard bengali accent and words). But in the national standard is sudha(pure) bengali though overall people speak standard bengali with sadhu(old)-colito(new/pure) mixed accents and words. This thing not only happens in BD but also in West Bengal like Uttar Banga, there people also use sadhu(old)-colito(new/pure) mixed accents and words. WB not entirely use pure bengali but in some selective places but it is the standard which established by our noble men. Also, in your hindi region, there are many palaces with different linguistic differences like Awadhi, brajabuli, bihari, Rajasthani, Haryanbhi etc. That does not mean that they are different. Hindi people region wisely use less or more farsi, arabic words. But, I got your point of view about East Bengal(Bangladesh). What can we do man, here muslim people try to use more arabic and farsi words to make Bengali islamic as Pakistani people did to their languages. We bengali hindus still use our native words like jal, snan, baba-ma, dadu-(thamma,didima), masi-musha, kaka-kaki etc. They(islamist) want to make Bangladesh hindu free and try to use less hinduic-Bengali language. They even sometimes disrespect the national anthem because it was written by a hindu writer, and also its a song to praise Bangla mata(mother bengal). They teach the wrong history of the Indian sub-continent, use of more arabic-farsi words, how to convert non-muslims, glorification of Islamic invaders all over the world and etc. to the students in the madrasas and mosques. So, eventually muslim people became anti-hindu from very little age. And try to remove hindu ness from bengali. I hope u understand. 🙏
Your channel doesn't just compare languages; it delves into their evolution, history, and cultural aspects, taking viewers on an engaging trip. The extensive research and time you invest are commendable. There isn't a dull moment; it's pure content from start to finish. Keep up the excellent work!
The sheer effort u make to bring such cultural similarity to us, is amazing....if every people think this way ,they will never see others culture as their enemy sense ....they will embrace them too which will create a harmony of multiple cultures....I know it may sound very utopian but doesn’t it sound good ?
Very well researched and that shows your passion. Well done and thank you. As a Bengali, I appreciate your efforts. Bengal also embraces secularism, they practice their own religion but that doesn’t influence their political views.
When a Bengalee says “Raabindrik” they don’t mean the literary form of Tagore, but the spirit within an art form. From this perspective, Bengali and French are very similar by their sheered culture, beauty and elegance. Thank you for sharing your video - very informative and well researched 👍

What say?

I think Japanese is also very similar to Bengali. Example:
1. Khete chai = Tabe tai (食べたい)
Sunte chai = kiki tai (聞きたい)
Jete chai = iki tai (行きたい)
Chaa pan kori na = Ocha o nomi nai (お茶を飲みない)
2. Bujhi na = wakara nai (分からない)
Khai na = tabe nai (食べない)
Jai na = ika nai (行かない)
Kichu na = nandemo nai (何でもない)
3. Boka = Baka (バカ)
4. School e jabi na? = Gakkou ni ika nai? (学校に行かない?)
Aksathe porbi na? = Isshoni benkyoshi nai? (一緒に便器好しない?)
Bhat khabi na? = Gohan o tabe nai? (ご飯を食べない?)
5. Tor naam Rahul na? = Anata no namae wa Rahuru, ne? (あなたの名前はラフル、ね?)
Ikr!! Japanese language have heavy use of vowels too!
While in Tokyo, when they used to announce something on loud speakers, it sounds sosimilar to Bengali.
ভালোই সমার্থক !!
Chhotto=small in Japanese also
I think that the 5th point you made should rather be
Apnar naam Rahul, na? = Anata no namae wa Rahuru, ne?

J’espère que ça aide❤

I loved the whole video. What I loved especially the most is the use of AI to depict illustrations of two womens of Bengal and French having a blast together. Those were too sweet and beautiful!
Wonderful content. The child trafficking theme pandal was originally from Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata this year. It was breathtaking. Nowadays they recycle some of these theme pandals for pujas like Jagadhatri Puja that come after Durga Puja . Which is great because such beautiful intricate works of art should be preserved as long as possible and seen by many.
In an ideal world, this channel would've already had 10+ million subscribers atleast. Istg it feels like with just one video this man single handedly caters to my intellectual, literary, artistic and whatever other appetites I have that involves my mind for weeks!
Chandannagar being my hometown and me being a linguaphile, this video was an absolute audio-visual treat! ❤I always love to talk about my homwtown whenever I meet any stranger in real or virtual world and always mention it being one of the two french colonies of India and how the french culture has become intertwined with our bengali culture in our town.
Thank you for Exploring Bangla language ..As a Bangladeshi 🇧🇩🇧🇩 Bengali I really love your Video...I hope you will make Great content for all of us in the future... Take love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩.
Bangladeshis are not bangalis they are arab culture followers bangaladesis speak a language developed by banagli hindhus with the help of Sanskrit and bangali hindhus follow bangali culture Bangladeshis are arab lovers try to live a arab way of life deporting hindhus and killing animals is bangladesis favourite hoby 😂
Muslims aren't Bengalis, they just came to Bengal in 1200 AC
But you are not bengali. Bcs 😂 you destroyed all old bengali temples and now going to destroy our chandranath temple.

U make so many videos about bangla... Shows ur love for the language... Love from bengal... ❤️

Bangladeshis just speaks bangla like Sierra Leone they call themselves bengali but they don't have any cultural roots of bangla. We hindu Bengalis are the real Bengalis.

As a Bangladeshi Bengali who has love for French language (felt unknown connection for no explicit reason), this video is an interesting one to me.
Seems like you are personally trying to connect the dot on why I like French language so much ☺️😇
I was kind of aware about the similarities between french and bengali language and common behaviour.....but I really got to know a lot about the cultural oppression that both of these cultures faced. I even did researched about dadaism and impressionism in college back in 2021 and your video made me recall all of that.😇😇😇
Thanks for this beautifully described video.🙏

Yes finding beauty and similarities in cultures other than our own only helps us make our own culture more beautiful and open
This video is shared to me by my hindi/urdu speaking friend. I guess he loves my language too😅.. I am Bengali and my grandma is Bengali from Chandanagar. She knows French but I never learnt it. This video is an eye opener. But do you think French people will be pleased to see this comparison 🤭.

And I just love your love for our linguistic culture .
But Tripura becoming a mini Bengal was from a story of tragedy, both for the Bangalis living there but also the natives Tripuris
Kolkata is the capital of Indian mostly Hindu Bengali's not all Bengali's. Before say anything about Bengal or Bengali. Think twice, because you have 1/3 of Bengal. Majority of Bengal is Bangladesh and most of Bengali's are Muslim.
