I dreamed about this bike when I was a 13/14 years old kid in the late 70s/early 80s. Suzuki RM80. Yamaha YZ80, and Honda XR/CR 80s were the bikes we used to rip around the neighborhood on back in the day. Lots of memories on these bikes. Just so damn fast. What a hoot.
I had one and rode the wheels off of it and won a lot of motos. I helped uncrate and predeliver it. I used to live down at the Suzuki shop when I was a 13 year old. My parents didn't care. Box stock it was a rocket.
If yall ever come across a 1996 kx 80 that you restore to new condition or shows up that way please do not skip making that video, had one as a kid and that thing was unbelievably fast for such a small bike and it survived from bought new in 96 all the way to 06 getting the snot beat outa it sold it still running flawlessly…my 02 yz 125 on the other hand in the same time frame ive killed 5 or 6 tops ends 🤦🏻♂️ now im onto big bore bikes And dont ride stuff into the ground anymore with my health issues so they all last forever now…Love the videos ken keep up the amazing work and have a blessed new year!
I had a 78 DG RM80 right down to the Betor forks. The motor was highly modified and had a small bodied 30mm Mikuni. It also had a 105cc cylinder for the 105 class back then that made it flat out violent for its size. It would be worth a few bucks nowadays I’d imagine.
Please come by a '79 JR 50, mint. 2 friends and I bought one in '82 for $35. Non runner. 1 friends dad got her running....... and then it all went South. I put up the cash, never received their shares, fought over the riding schedule. Traded it to another friend for a KISS 8 track, a velcro wallet and a pair of Lightning Bolt shorts. I was not a bright kid. Love your channel. Love every one of your bike scores.
Knew an older kid at the lake that had a 77 RM80. This would have been around 1982 or 83. It was pretty beat up, but you could hear him coming from half a mile away. It was a cool bike and stood up to a lot of punishment. Gotta think finding one now thats mint would be Very rare.
The bike we put my buddy in 2nd gear on top of a 15' tall hill and said let the clutch out at the bottom and he did a 50 yard wheelie. It was impressive tbh just full throttle till he crashed.
1978, St Matthew’s school yard Ridgefield NJ. My good friend Walter Deitz who looked like Leaf Garret rolled in the whole school could see him,the last day of school waiting for his girlfriend Nancy Matico to come out and go down the Dunes in Ridgefield not allowed to ride there anymore. They Got Married and had Three Boys. Rest in peace Walt.
I dont want to sound like one of those guys.... But please believe me. I bought a ,78 RM80 in I believe '95. Worn out. Like it hit powerband, up shift, bog down, downshift....kinda of worn out. Only could push start it, you could not kick start it bad. Low compression. I believe it was 1MM overbored it if I remember, for some reason thinking 40 thousand but I dont know if I am remembering right. Anyways it would beat a newer kx125 liquid cooled mono shocked I cant remember its year but stomp it even my dad with his dad. Then spokes ripped out off the rim so i had to get a new rim for it. Then the clutch started slipping and I sold it. The facts are true the details may not be as I stated. But It ripped! Another thing I sold and will forever be upset a out. :(
I know where 2 of these are hiding away, consecutive serial numbers, both run and in perfect condition stored away in warm storage for years. For sale, In Pennsylvania.
15.000 to restore sounds like robbery. 2 days 16 hrs.16 ÷ 15.000 That's labour's charge almost 1000 an hour . You can buy a new kx 450 less then 10.000 bucks
When me and my brother were young. My dad bought us a 1979 Suzuki two stroke 50. I liked it.

Had the same bike brand new in 78 . Awesome!!!! My racing friend had the 78 YZ 80 . The RM 80 smoked the YZ and the CR and KX of those years.
I had the 125. It was incredible. The most fun I have ever had. I had the 78. I loved it so much. The best thing a 14 year old could ever have.
I had this model in Australia when I was 15 years old. My god, what a time piece.

Yep broke my tooth for the first time on one of these . The good old days of open face helmets
The 1979 rm80 probably my most favorite rm is known for racing machine. It's the truth best in the East Coast ❤❤❤

Those 78 Rms had a lot of power almost equal to the 100 not sure but I think they kept up with 80 cc bikes up until 90s very well built!!
I want the 79 RM 80 you guys got with this one!!!

We sold it for $7250 at ebay auction. Your math is wrong
It iss 100 hours for a frame off restoration at 150 ph = 15k plus parts and the bike cost.
Paint on tank looks fish eyed
Two stroke is ruled by
Yamaha and kawasaki
Period.
Suzuki not even close
Suzuki dominated 2-stroke racing (DeCoster et al) and got their technology from CZ. -CZ absolutely dominated before that.
whatever you reckon! Ha
Delusional comment
