It's exciting to see the latest time capsules you showcase for our viewing pleasure. I've got to make a trip down for a visit. I think I'll pack a lunch when I do make the pilgrimage down
That RM80N is gold!- still remember my friend getting 1st one in our city of Wollongong, Australia.let me take it for a quick blatt up the street,- I was blown away how good it went.Cheers Ken ,merry christmas!
I had the 77 RM80. It was ahead of it's time. All my friends were in awe. They had TM 125s,cr125s yz80s,xrs. They couldn't believe the power on that bike then I saved up from my summer job for a brand new 1978 RM 125, it cost me 1100$ the rest is history 😊 ❤️👍🇺🇸
Ken what a time capsule bike that is!!! It looks exactly the way I remember it!! I wanted the 1978 RM80 when I first saw it in the Cycle Buyers Guide. Then in 1979 they came out with this uniquely styled RM80. I wanted it so bad. Dad said to hell with an 80 and bought me the 1979 RM125. Needless to say it was off to the races from there lol.
I had the 79 YZ80F and my mate had the 79 RM80N . The YZ was faster in a straight line but the RM turned much better ( probably due to the 17 inch front wheel introduced on that model )
This was my first bike. Had one just like it. My dad found it in the trash in ‘93 and fixed it up as my first real dirtbike at 13 years old. Bike scared the crap out of me at first!
My very first running bike my dad had got me from cycle trader in early 90’s. It was couple hundred bucks if I remember but those were the good ole days when you could ride in canyons in San Diego.
We had the 1978 RM 80, and had to fix the frame many times, BECAUSE we did what you said, Road the wheels OFF Then a friend rider had the beautiful 1980 RM 80 and the Yamaha MX 100
I would have killed for that bike back in the 70's when I was riding. I rode a Yamaha 80 license bike I removed all that stuff my friends had a YZ 80 and a Honda XR 70. I cracked the rear hub doing big jumps, I simply put a bunch of washers and filled the hub with grease and rode it for another year.
I bought a 1980 RM80 that was super clean with low hours in the ‘90s for $300. I reluctantly loaned it to my neighbor who begged and begged and would not take no for an answer. And of course, he never returned it. He claims that it got destroyed in a hurricane. I never believed him and let him know I wasn’t happy with his bs. But I was moving at the time and didn’t have the time to do much about it. Still very pissed about it.
Sooo bad back then when they came out as a fourteen, fifteen and John Blushingly on Saturday night live and concerts like the CARS for eight, nine dollars,Billy Joel, Styxs,, Ozzy and on and on. I and most of my friends couldn't afford to maintain our bikes so we didn't ride for long,a lot of people just stopped looking for work by the end of the eighties. People can't believe what they are supposed to get for their labor, labor × the earth= much, much at least and some times rich.
Shit, I had a 81 CR80 and my friend had a 79 RM80 and he use to beat me in straight line race by a front wheel every time. His brother had a 80 RM80 and I would beat him with no problems. I rode his bike and for some reason his powerband use to kick harder than my CR80.
be careful ken, will land you on your ass asap, fast and nasty power band, so easy to flip, merry Christmas to yours and family, god bless and protect you cheers mate
The floors are almost as beautiful as the bikes ❤
My mom bought me a new 1979 YZ 80 for passing into grade 8 it was a blast too.
Every kid wanted a rm 80 in 1979..man I sure did..but sure as hell would've took a yz80 too!.

I currently have a 1979 RM 80 and a 1979 KX 80.

🐝🏁 👍🏆
Do those bikes in that year have reed valves
Yes they had reeds . The reeds were located at the base of the cylinder.

Morning Ken how much horse power that Suzuki 80? Merry Christmas to u and family! Guessing 9 hp?
Were they not 17hp out of the box. I lost VERY few races, only thing I did was throw on a Dunlop 510 and ripped it!
Shit, I had a 81 CR80 and my friend had a 79 RM80 and he use to beat me in straight line race by a front wheel every time. His brother had a 80 RM80 and I would beat him with no problems. I rode his bike and for some reason his powerband use to kick harder than my CR80.
