  • A drive through the bustling town of Bancroft, Ontario, Canada. Located 220 kilometres east of Ottawa and 245 km northeast of Toronto, Bancroft is a former mining centre turned summer tourism hotspot.
The town was settled in 1852, incorporated as a village in 1904 and incorporated as a town in 1999. The current population is just under 4,000 permanent residents.
Bancroft is located at the junction of highway 62 and highway 28 and is a southern gateway to the Algonquin region of Ontario.
Our drive starts on the eastern side of town, arriving via highway 28. We turn north on Hastings Street (highway 62). At the north side of town, we turn around, head back through town and exit via highway 28, heading southwest.

Fantastic footage. Thanks for posting this. My Dad has a lot of family that was from there & the many surrounding areas & more all over southern Ontario. Bancroft, Barrie, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, Lindsay, Orillia, Angus, Collingwood, Owen Sound, Fenelon Falls, Haliburton, Peterborough, Belleville, Wilberforce, Monmouth Township, Cardiff Township, Coldwater, Lambton, Oshawa, Omemee, and many many more areas. We are true born & raised northerners with a lot of Southern Ontarian Ancestral Roots. We are from the north (as in the real Northern Ontario), which is a few hours from Timmins. Since most of Ontario likes to say I live in, I am from or I went up north (& they usually mean Barrie or even Huntsville or Gravenhurst), LOL. They don't realize that there's more to Ontario than just Barrie, Orillia, Huntsville & Gravenhurst. Up north here is: Cochrane (Tim Horton's birthplace), Tunis, Iroquois Falls (my birthplace), Monteith, Montrock, Ansonville, Val Gagne, Porcupine, South Porcupine, Schumacher, Hoyle, Porquis Junction, Kelso, Matheson, Ramore, Shillington, Holtyre, Kapuskasing, Heart, Moosonee, & many many more. These are only some of the Northern Ontario Towns up here. :)

I know! My family amd I have been camping up north in Sturgeon Bay. It was when driving (from Toronto) to that place that we realized there are many towns. You are right it is horrible but, we tend to think no one lives beyond Barrie.
Recently we moved to London, On and wow...I keep learning of the many beautiful small citites and towns our province has.

Even though I am a 3rd generation born in Iroquois Falls, Ont., all of my paternal ancestors either, immigrated to or were born & raised in southern Ontario. My Dad's paternal relatives were either, born or lived in Peterborough, Haliburton, Lindsay, Monmouth Township, Wilberforce, Cardiff Township, Fenelon Falls, Little Lake (Peterborough), & many other areas including Bancroft as well. My paternal grandfather was Lawrence Craig Millen & his mother was Jemima Townsend, & her mother was Sarah Tripp. I know there are many people in the areas & surrounding areas that I mentioned either, with those surnames or married to one. Lol They're all big families down south there. We're also related to DeMille, Dixon, Ames, Bowen, McChesney, Valleau, Malley, McDowell, Scott, Terry, Andress, Palmer, Sanderson, McDonald, & many others from those areas.
As for from North Bay to Windsor, we're related to Loshaw, Shirk, Goheen, Bye, Curran, Thompson, Boyd, Hawley, Tryon, Edwards, Nichols, Cain, Cryderman, Adams, Griffin, Sparling, McDonald, & many others.
Each of these surnames are most common in the areas I mentioned but, I am also aware of them being all over the province in other areas too.
As I got older & finally got to know more about my Dad's paternal ancestry, I realised that I am nearly related to my home province, period. Dad's paternal family has been here since the early 1800s at least & every generation of us since then have all been born, died, or even buried here since. Many of his maternal sides have been here just as long maybe even longer. The Shirk family has been here since at least 1804 & our direct line has stayed in Canada ever since. Lots of mixed ancestry from many countries & of many different religious all into 1 large family history.
Since 1996, I have been & continue to look for anyone who is related to any of these surnames mentioned & have multiple family trees on Ancestry.Com for anyone interested in talking to or learning about the family. 3 of my trees are linked to DNA tests also. 1 for each of my parents & myself too.

Honestly I know it sucks but you doing your part and not going to Bancroft is appreciated because the hospital there can't handle alot of people and neither can the stores and some city people drive up here just to go to the stores because where they are there is a shortage of foods but what they don't understand is it takes weeks for Bancroft to get good and ect when in the city you get them fast

@@speaknow9325 Drove there from the Niagara Region, so my son could take his G2 driving test. It was like a four hour drive (with traffic). We stood outside, waited our turn like everyone else.
The lady at the desk told my son to wait in his car for his driving instructor. While he was waiting in the car BY HIMSELF, the driving instructor walks up to him & says : "I'm sorry but I can't let you take your test. You're not wearing your mask".
My son had to defend his right to not wear a mask while in his car ALONE. My son had absolutely no problem wearing the mask once the instructor was there, but why would he have to wear it by himself?
That piece of shit took one look at my son, a brown-skinned young man, and made up his mind to not let him take his road test. So we threatened him with a lawsuit. Suddenly he was willing to give my son a chance.
He was an older, entitled cranky piece of human garbage. For a moment I thought about running his ass over.

@@johnterrance3075 I'm so sorry you and your son had to go through that. There are a lot of shitty people in this world.
I'm so glad that despite the bad treatment that person gave you, you didn't lower your standards and gave yourself your place.
