@@kenlompart9905 I absolutely loved Elliot Lake. I had to leave the town when I was promoted by the company I worked for and given a position out of province. This was back in the '80s when the uranium mines were still operating. I have nothing but fond memories of the place.
@@davidmcgee6258 Good to know, having a cottage in Parry Sound most of my life I'm very familiar with northern living and love it, we didn't even have power or indoor plumbing for years in the 70s. I always said I would move up there one day and now that I'm retiring soon I will be able to do it, with all the research I've done Elliot lake is my first choice, thanks for the info.
BlindRiver is a settlement about half way between the Soo and Sudbury. It is where my brother got picked up by the OPP when he ran away from home in the Soo and was trying to get to our grandparents in Wahnapitae, he wanted to go fishing and when dad picked my brother up the cop suggested he take him fishing.
People say this is Blind River, and the title say this is North Ontario, and after searching in google map, Blind River is just north west of Toronto, how is it North Ontario?
It Is where my brother got picked up by the OPP when he ran away from home, Sault Sainte Marie, heading for Wahnapitae, our grandparents place. He was about 10/12 yrs old.
what town is this? how far is it from Simcoe where Red Kelly is from? how far is it from Earlton where Wilf Paiment is from , Winchester where Larry Robinson is from , Parry sounds where Bobby Orr is from?
We moved to Marathon and thought we would enjoy retirement living there (we worked there for 12 years 1980 to 1992), however we tried to keep as busy as possible but my wife missed browsing chapters bookstore and the cost of food and gas is considerably higher. You cannot go out for an evening dinner,no quality restaurants. We had to make trips to Thunder Bay for cloths and decent shopping. You can only fish and walk trails so much. Driving around town you see the same 12 buildings day after day after day...lol..no variety. No minister at the United church as it is being run by Pentacostals (dont know how thats poissible) so we moved back to the city after two years. We were so glad we rented out our house and did not sell it! I guess in the 30 years spent in the city we got citified...lol..far better medical care and dentists too in the city! We did look at this before we moved but gave it the two years and now we know for sure but we will vacation there from time to time.
I am trying to locate a cousin who was last known to be living in Larder Lake with his daughter and son in law Harry and Carrie Willems. His name is Steven’s. If any of you North Ontario watchers have any details about them please reply to this. I am originally from the Soo. Jimmy Cryderman.
My home town boring place to grow up but definitely leads to a appreciation for the out doors
Lived for a number of years in Elliot Lake so this video brings back a lot of pleasant memories. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
