I love catching Pike. My first fish in North Dakota was a 41” beauty caught on a smelt. I moved down here from Alaska over a year ago . My largest there was 43”.
I remember seeing one spawning in Big lake Alaska. Follow ed my home made bucktail spinner , but would not eat. The next weekend a guide caught it and measured in at 53” 36lns. He caught it on a chatter bait. Chatterbaits were king. Also wake baits.
@@willym1965 yeah that size of pike is the dream pike for sure. I’ve never used a chatterbait for like yet but wake style and surface baits can be killer in spring at times
Sup man moving back to North Dakota soon I have been up in the north east for awhile now. Wanted to watch some pike fishing in North Dakota an your channel happen to be first one to pop up what a coincidence. I got a new boat now got rid that garbage one plan on taking it on fort peck when I get in hope you are doing well I need to hit you up when I get in I didn’t get chance fish with you before I left
That was quite a thrill to watch. They used to be all over my neighborhood but moved away last year. I used to guarantee a pike on a day where other fish where tougher. I'm hoping they bounce back in my neck of the woods this season. I got a nice 38 just waiting to load the boat, but nothing consistent like you found here.
Killer video. Mind saying what time of year this is? Greetings from Minot AFB! Also, just got to the end of the video... cool buford on the wall there. Saw you're fishing in spring, hope I can grab some big pike this month and next. New to pike fishing, but not new to fishing by any means.
This shallow spring bite usually kicks off about mid to late May and some years can go through mid to late June. It can be a month or longer window when conditions are right, but some springs it’s very short lived.
Thanks for checking out the video and the comment/question! I’d say prime time for casting lures for shallow spring pike on Sakakawea is approx May 10th-June 20th range. Not for sure yet, but next week I’m considering sharing about some of my favorite spring pike baits/rigging methods and I might also touch on what to look for to get on the spring Sakakawea pike bite.

Very nice!!! I’ve heard of some AK spots producing giants. Thankfully ND has some of the best pike in the lower 48.

Thanks for watching and the comment! I wouldn’t be surprised if the shallow post spawn bite is pretty good out there this spring.
