Filmed in the Peak District in the county of Staffordshire. Locations include Grindon, Back o’ th’ Brook, Waterfall and Waterhouses.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.

Very well done as always Patrick. Fantastic views, great videography and music. You are right the Peak District is just as beautiful in Staffordshire. It's amazing how green it was for October. Cattle in the fields and hay bales for winter. Grindon was a lovely place and what beautiful cottages. Only in rural villages could the book lending telephone boxes and shelters work. Anywhere else they'd be vandalised, which is a shame because it's a great idea. Loved the shot of the land rover going through the stream. You've done well of late with churches, so one out of two wasn't bad. Nice church organ too. Seems like you near enough had the entire walk to yourself. Great to see such splendid countryside and what a scenic walk. Cheers Patrick 😊
It was certainly green Kelly. I've always though Grindon was a lovely places and I've seen quiet a few villages new with bus shelters and telephone boxes used as a library. I was glad to have got inside one church even though I didn't get inside Grindon. There were 5 people in all I saw on this walk so definitely a quiet one. Thanks Kelly and all the best 👍

Yet another really lovely film Patrick, we've always thought that this part of the Peak District was a hidden little gem and really just up the road from us in Stoke, you're right that you don't see many other walkers around, we have on occasions done a walk and never seen anyone other than maybe a local in one of the villages, guessing you parked up by the church in Grindon, handy little car park there.

Thanks for making another special video Patrick. I don't get to watch them all. I found out I've had chronic Fatigue Syndrome all of these years so I'm resting a lot. Sounds like an old man I know..

Hello again Patrick i forgot mention the beautiful Belties I love the Belted Galloway cattle so nice to see them , I remember when I used to travel from Newent to Northern Ireland I would see the Belties in Scotland and Ireland , when my lady friend came over from the Philippine she what there were I told they were Celtic Panda's :) have a great weekend.

This area of North Staffordshire is gorgeous, Patrick. These small villages have character and some unusual charms like the 'library' in the bus shelter and the one in the old phone box. Glad that you managed to enter the one church at Waterfall, which looked so lovely inside, pity about the one in Grindon being closed. Another excellent vlog, Patrick. On very familiar ground, having just walked up there last Saturday myself. Did you notice Minninglow in the background above the building you filmed. 👌👌

Your living dangerously with that ford Patrick. I think beyond the people you did see the rest were washed away by it. Ha ha! My favorite part today was the dry stone wall section towards the end. In fact there were a few small lane/track sections that instilled that sense of rural charm and peace. What with the villages it was a varied jaunt out. A lovely day too. All the best out there. Mark

Hello Patrick. Grindon is a new area for me. Not heard of before. Interesting observations about the variation between Derbyshire and Staffordshire walking populations. I think depends on popularity of routes. What a lovely route you took Patrick with the gentle violin/strings melodies. Much enjoyed.
This is one of the lesser known parts of the Peak District, so it's great how it's quieter in general to a lot of Derbyshire. The Manfold Way certainly gets busy, but once off there you hardly see a soul. Thanks Shanita for your kind words as always, all the best 👍

Thank you for introducing some fantastic walks. I’ve only recently been able to get out more and was wondering how much time or complicated it would be to add a little map. The only reason for asking is I’m not confident when walking across open fields if I’m going in the right direction or maybe trespassing on someone’s land. Do you ever take guided walks?Thank you.
