Sometimes - Lyrics
I know that the sunset empire shudders and shakes
I know there's a floodgate and a raging river
I say the silence of the ribbons of iron and steel
I say hear the punch drunk huddle drive hammer and steel
Sometimes you're beaten to the call
Sometimes you're taken to the wall
But you don't give in
I know that the cannibals wear smart suits and ties
I know they arm wrestle on the altar
I say don't leave your heart in a hard place
Sometimes you're shaken to the core
Sometimes the face is gonna fall
But you don't give in

They should be treated as national treasure in Australia.Brave, uncompromising , straightfowarded , direct, my childhoodand lifelong heroes. For what they sing you need to be passionate and brave. First hear them when I was 14 now I am 54 and they ROCK!
They set the bar pretty high for live performances.
Genuinely the best concert I’ve ever been to
Simply the greatest live band evey, no contest. Their engery is so uplifting it's contagious.
AC/DC live at the River Plate Stadium
This video really sums up everything about The Oils. Live and in full cry. They were an absolute force of nature at their peak.
The most powerful music video I have seen in my life. I see this video hundred of times and I enjoy it EVERY time. Wonderful, thanks.
Their SCREAM IN BLUE live album is one of my favorite.
ua-cam.com/video/59_FivvLXgA/v-deo.html this is nice too
Go Garrett!!! 🖤❤️💛 Man, that’s spirit.. This is the antidote to apathy.
Peter Garrett: a poet and a prophet in the truest sense of both words.
You've got the best of both words here!
I was a pre teen and used to laugh my arse on his fall, at 1:12. 😂
Damn, this band is so good!
Midnight Oil for me, the Best band before, today, tomorrow and forever 🎶😃pure Energy🎵🎸
Saw these guys live at the Warfield in San Francisco in 2002. They were the realio dealio. Best. Show. Ever.
This is one of my favorite videos of all time. I remember when it came out in 91 or 92. It was not played a whole lot on MTV so it was such a treat whenever I managed to catch it. Greatest lead singer ever if one considers voice, charisma, and ability to get along with band members.
Best live version
Of all the great Oils videos, this is the best.
Wow whoever edited this deserves an award, it's amazing! This should be what they show to anybody who's never heard of Midnight Oil. If this doesn't convert them nothing will.
fucking legends mate I agree
Edited by the one and only Clayton Jacobson - Shane's older brother!
They don't know it, but their songs were the soundtrack of their lives for an incredible youth and a group of friends from a town south of the Mexican highlands, thank you! finalizando este 2020 pandemico, sobreviviremos.
one of my favorite bands...I think I saw them every time they came to Montreal, outstanding every time.
With the bushfires raging in a lot of Australia this should be the anthem that Aussies will never back down whatever we are faced with. Kudos to all who are fighting the fires, caring for our wildlife that have not perished, and giving support to communities and individuals that need it. Love you all XXXOOO
Authentic Band!!!!!
I love their energy. One of the best bands ever!
Midnight Oil forever #1 😄
yes
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!
An amazing band that just keeps giving to the first nation's people of this Great nation , if people would only listen they would hear the truth and change would follow. Because it needs to be changed an taught in schools. It's the truth, so should told. Keep up the great work guy's.
Saw them, after 24years, last night in Frankfurt. Great Concert but missed "Sometimes" & some other great songs/lyrics! Don´t missunterstodd... still great to hear, saw & unterstand what there songs stand´s for... ;)
One of the best Aussie albums I came across growing up was "Diesel and Dust"...it was a way to get into discovering the band. Was already a big Icehouse and INXS fan and it was logical to get discovering Midnight Oil...it was exciting growing up and discovering these bands from down under...
Nobody like them A ONE OF A KIND and Great Song Writers.....and Musicians....wow...
Goodness me, this live album may the best live album ever; seriously, I can only imagine "Under a blood red sky" being int he same league, the intensity is way out there and no other rock band has come close ever since, period
Love the energy of The Ouls live, staight in your face😂
one of the greatest bands in history with an amazing front man
bring on the new tour
Love the Oils!
Just love this song,
Still love them. The Aussies Rock! MO, Silverchair...... Wooow!
Midnight Oil is such a brilliant and unique band. We tried with my friend from R&O to review their great song "My Country". Maybe we succeeded, maybe not, we let you be the judge ua-cam.com/video/2qVapngKZfw/v-deo.html
? Imagine if you will a furious apocalyptic band with a dizzying assaulted blast and their lead singer which is the only way he could be described as a manic marionette puppet with his strings cut loose going crazy across the stage and throwing energy out into the crowd that one cannot even comprehend this my friends is Midnight Oil
Wish I was born earlier so I could of witnessed their greatness live
30 years on from the first time, just watched them live last weekend at their last US performance. Worth every goddamn-drum banging-still got the energy-tonsil screaming cent.
we want you back, Oils!!!

Best band at live music
Still an iconic and powered music in 2022! Since ever made!!
Saw them at a smallish pub in Adelaide around the release of Head Injuries. They were young, hungry and kicked Arse.
Nice song realylove it
My heart swells watching this
I've seen this band a few times, one of the best live acts of all time.
midnight oil! what a great band of the 80"s! one of their best hits from my fav album Diesel and Dust!
Binza and the 90s..... and the 2000s..... still relevant today. In fact, never more so than today 🖐
simply EPIC ! Come back guys.
Excellent band...
I love this! Thank you!
This song more than most will get me to say "they don't make them like they used to", just like Great Eagle below.
Epic !!!!!!
Capitol Theatre..............best concert EVER!!!!! no, not just Midnight Oil, any band, and oh my oh my, I was there, call me an old bastard, but I still have taste.
....and I know this wasn't at Capitol, just reminiscing folks..............
Indeed, excellent film editing. Thanks.
Amo essa banda, surfando no Brasil ouvindo esses caras😉
Love the Oils
This is powerful. I also love "The Dead Heart" from MTV unplugged.... elsewhere on UA-cam. A gut punch of what music is about.
❤Masterpiece Diesel LP❤
amo esta banda lo mejor del siglo xx con el respeto que le tengo a todo lo demas pero midnight oil THE BEST
One of the TRULY great live bands. The band that other bands went along to see how it is done. Straight off the beach and queue up at the Royal Antler, good value for 5 bux. Westies told to follow the arrows painted on the roads showing them how to head west along Mona Vale Rd. Good times.
Hahaha love your work - you have a couple of years on me, DY Hotel for me - totally awesome😃😃💥
The oils are back in Tassie the last time I saw them live was 27 years ago.
The Mighty Oils.
Super Musik,,👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
well done this video gets the oils ..fun times thanks...
That's the only beef that I'm ever going to have with the Oils: that they didn't play "Sometimes" at their Frankfurt concert this year - would have made the evening a perfect one for me if they had closed it with this.
Saw them Kentish Town '94 after years of devoted listenening from afar in apartheid South Africa. Import LP's ONLY! F*ckin expensive they were too! Fantastic gig.
Very uplifting song.
great!
love it!!

Sometimes by midnight oil was released in 1992 on screamin blue live it was originally supposed to be on diesel and dust
This sounds way better live than in the studio. You can feel the energy of their live performances with this one.
Not sure which release of d&d you are referring to but on mine it is included as the 10th track
Whoah this is using footage from 1982, like 5 years before the song was recorded. Somebody's got a time machine!
ok
oh !!!!

The drums at 2:55 -- wow
The Clash is still the only band that matters, but by golly, this is up there with anything the Clash did IMO.
Sometimes you're beaten to the call, sometimes
Sometimes you're taken to the wall, no, no
Sometimes you're beaten to the call, sometimes
Sometimes you're taken to the wall but you don't give in
Before there was Rage Against the Machine, these guys were raging!
don't leave your heart in a hard place
MTV 120 Minutes May 3rd 1992 World premiere of this video ( vhs tape ) 6 weeks before my marriage
spazz dancer
Peter Garrett is the equivalent of a marionette puppet with a strings cut loose he would kick Pinocchio's ass
If you have been bashed you will really like this
But in a fews lives Your not sometimes too!
@culerosargentinos He is a government minister and has been for a few years.
Is this the video for the Live Single of Sometimes from Scream in Blue (1992)??
Yes, it is. I remember when it was released.
time for the microwave popcorn. youtube is like watching movies.
Music today does not hold a candle to this band. People like Miley, Kanye, Beyoncé, and yes -Taylor only sell sex or hate.
ana ha 8
True.
I know....nothing is what it seems.
Took my little brother to his first live show - diesel & dust tour. I think I ruined him for live shows forever after - who could compete?

Face melter.
Peter Garret has the crookest head going around but he makes some good music.
What went wrong Peter?

13 people have no taste in music... Sometimes. :D
Hate this band's politics, but love their passion and musical art. They are that good.
It really is a shame that one of the major sports TV networks in Canada is not carrying the live coverage of The Tour de France. Very disappointed. To have exclusive streaming with a paid web service is depriving likely millions of cycling fans (an potential cycling fans) of access to one the worlds greatest cycle race, Le Tour. If some want to pay and watch it on an app, that's fine; however, this exclusivity selfish (and maybe greedy) on the part of those involved producing and distributing the feeds and most certainly profit driven. So glad that there is at least a race this year, but I'm disappointed it's not as accessible to fans.
Very late reply I know, but I can guarantee you that not a single person watching this video, with the exception of yourself, could give a flying fuck whether or not the tour of bloody France is televised.
@@JohnSmith-sk1yv I do ... but why the hell he's posting about it in a Midnight Oil video, I'll never know.
Where is Peter Garrett ... ? working for the government of Australia?
Sometimes your Referendum fails.
very good
