They were untouchable. The Giffo period was my favourite. I show my kids this and the Capitol shows to show them what it was like. So many great memories of so many nights . Thanks for the upload.
All time No 1 Australian band. No other band comes close live.
I miss Pete Gifford on bass. He was truly amazing. What a rhythm section - Giffo and Hirst.
yep-when he left i lost interest
At least Gifford got out at the very top
@@surfinmuso37 Funny that. Me too. Band lost some soul, some oomph and drive. Bone's bass tone is weak compared to Giffo's. He just thumped that bass hard all night long
I met someone who worked for him on magnetic island. She said he just got jack all they waiting.Loved playing but the touring life takes it outta ya...What a shame.Giffo gave the grunt to the oils.
Agree. Fantastic bass player.
One of the best live bands ever.
The oils are still raging hard!
There's no band that plays with more passion.
Up The Oils!🤘

The best live band in the world.
Absolutely!!!
No one will ever disagree on it
Agreed
I have watched this so many times. Bloody love it! One of the best Aussie bands ever, and one of the best bands ever!
I’m the same with Oils On The Water I watched tons of times have cds one in the car one in the house one in the garage!
@@Alfsp1 That's by far my favourite of theirs. Would have loved to have been there for that one!
Jim and Martin, the way they play together is genius.
Totally agree -- their musicality is way beyond the typical rock guitarist, IMO. And they play with such apparent humility, yet they create a huge, beautiful onslaught of sound.
It is never just lead guitar and rhythm guitar. Always two guitarists working together to create a sound.
the way Jim Martin plays alone is pretty genius too! Miss him in Faith No More...
@@sadbobbyewingsofdestiny2307 Oh you bastard I was going to say that.
@@MrPgrawe They were pretty big into guitar solos in the mid 70's. They were a weird cross between pub rock and progressive rock. When punk happened they just got rid of the guitar solos altogether. Save for like one or two per album. Their rhythm playing is very lead guitar-like to a degree when they are not going all jingle jangle.
the drummer ,the bass ,and the lead mans voices are like heaven. Just the right harmony mix with out any equipment.
theyre highly regarded musicians
@UCcdzeWb-bezSn0kLMdGqERg oh that american show thats the gospel of evrything music,,,the oils must have been stoked
I love Petes rant before Kosciusko. I'm thinking this was Midnight Oil in their prime. Still have the manic energy of the early years and some of the best songs by the late 80's
Absolutely outstanding upload. This concert is a gem. Midnight Oil is the greatest live band. The drummer and the singer are just amazing. Love them since I’m a little kid, and still love them at 45 yo. ❤️❤️🙏 Thanks a lot for this share. 😉🙏🙏🙏
I can only agree Mario, greatest band ever
This is a new one for me, been an Oils fan since 1984.
Like the many of the great bands, Oils are truly unique.
one of the greatest live band
One of the greatest Live acts on earth, front row electrifying in every way. The mix and compression on this video do it no justice.
Truly is amazing how their lyrics still make sense in today's world, not much has changed with social justice, politics, wars and humanity. Best band live, saw them many times.
Cant wait for the Adelaide gig later in 2017 to hear PG dish douchebags DJT & MT
I'd been dusting off my Oil CDs the last few years for that very reason. To see them live last August was beyond belief.
Oh I missed the 2017 tour. PLEASE, ! Run a new worldtour for this year or 2019 and this time to play in ARGENTINA, pleeeaase!!!! I can`t die before watching the Oils playing live....
this is a really good set, a great capture of one of their best periods. Great video!
What's interesting about this concert is that Midnight Oil were testing out songs from Diesel and Dust about 5 months before they released that record. They actually hadn't finished writing them. You can see/hear them experimenting with different things and working through those now classic songs.
i thought that because dream wold and bullroaer sound a bit different
My favourite tour. I still remember the every moment of the 3 nights at Selinas in Sydney on this tour. The Warumpi Band were such a great support band.
so much energy. PG always gave his best. Rock God
Totally awesome concert. I was in the 7th grade when this happened. Too bad I missed it. Thank GOD for youtube!
essa banda era demais.... escuto desde os meus 14 anos, com o mesmo entusiasmo.
valeu Midnight Oil.
Love how the Oils played smaller venues such as this gig. Saw them a few years earlier at RMIT after they had just released "Red Sails " which they were showcasing songs from at Storey Hall which had a capacity of around 500 people . Tightest live band in Australia and no one else has even come close
I just can't stop loves this band! Who else? 2021!
и я )
and thank you indigenous brothers and sisters.... we didn't mean to but we grew up in Gondwana land and we will love and respect you the original owners of this amazing land forever....it is a part of us as much as you and it will be forever but we are forever thankful as it is your country long before we became attached to it....peace and love forever legends!!
Another gem from the ether that...who know it existed? Fabulous, thank you
One of the best.. fantastic concert
For me, Midnight Oil is the best band in the world...
U can not describe Midnight Oil pure@simply the BEST
Just fantastic to hear them play "What's So Funny Bout Peace Love & Understanding" live!
lucky enough to have been there for this classic line up..small intimate show for student union..awesome.
Saw them in 1988 in Germany. One of the TOP 5 concerts I ever visited. Absolute masterclass!
Oils impeccable as usual
Have been aware of the alternate lyric set to Dreamworld, but first time I have heard it live!
Second verse was not changed ("So shut that buckle and turn that key again.."),
as well as "Sign says Honeymoon For Rent".
No idea how that ties in to games, Hondas or fake Mickey Mouse teeth!
On second listen, sounds like the 'silly game' he is referring to is American gridiron
Martin ands Pete dancing together Short memory solo at 35:50 epic - good mates.
Pure genius. Simple as that. Anyone who gave this a thumbs down doesn’t have clue
Caramba... showzaço... só conheço muitas músicas desconhecidas do Midnight, por ter a Maldita no Rio, com Ricardo Chantilly, pq nenhuma outra rádio tocava essas raridades!!!🎸🤘🤘🤘
❤️ these guys !!
Brilliant. My first year of university, at RMIT…but alas I missed this… to shy too young
Glad they are getting back together and going on tour in 2017.
+Eric Shivvers I'm from France and so happy ....that's a very important news I saw them four times and I hope to see them again in 2017 !
Yeah, where in France? Lived in Cassis when I was a kid. Seen them 4 times as well.
I live with my family in northern France near the battlefields of the Somme where many young Australian soldiers died for us in 1914-1918 "These should not be forgotten years ! ! !" Forgotten years the Oils 1990.... and you ? where do you live ? Have a nice day
+Jipé DUM' thanks for the reply. Love northern France. Paris Roubaix is a great bike race. I live in Chicago.
+Jipé DUM' Midnight Oil is one of the great rock bands of the world (very underrated) I’m Australian But I drive a Renault… lol, Cheers.
Fantastic performance, so much energy.
uma banda maravilhosa ! Eu gosto muito , sou fã.
Thank You Very Much..
Gran banda y coros espectaculares
One of a kind...in every way. Saw them at Deakin Uni O week and then some. Awesome!!!
You can't beat that - OILS AUSSIE AT IT's BEST !! cHEERS
Enormous thanks for such a rare gem!!! God bless you!!!
Awesome....
me encanta unos de mis primeros flashes musicales haya por el 88 me parecen bestiales en directo insuperables diria yo muy potentes menos mal que nos quedan estos conciertazos
thanks for sharing. brilliant
Diesel and Dust was released 6 months after this concert so the audience heard these songs for the first time.
2022 tour announced. I'll be there!
Been a huge fan since '93, finally saw them at the end of 2001 (about the time in Rob's book) and twice during the Capricornia tour in 2002 before they called it quits. My daughter was still a baby then, and now she's a huge fan like me. Hoping they come to the U.S. for a proper tour and we'll both go see them. I never thought I'd ever have the chance to say something like that again! P.S: Dig out some oldies like Profiteers, Brave Faces, or Ned Kelly if you do!
the only band i bought all releases from :) looking forward for their tour...hopefully with a stop in mid europe ...
I hope you got to see their recent US tour!!
lol 93? they were done by then
Thanks for uploading this.
Love you guys ❤️💯
Wow a great set, some unexpected classics in there compared to later on. This must have been one of Giffo's last show too judging by the date.
Nice!! Tks a lot for uploading
Needed an Oils fix. Excellent!
Have just located this, so coming in a bit late in the piece, but it's a terrific recording. Thanks heaps for posting mate.
And I was actually at this concert among many of theirs and hey presto they called it.
Thanks! :D Anna,Christine,Tinja&Markku :D
Yeah PG rocks!! brotha from another mother!!!
So far ahead of their time..tight as
The best Power and the Passion live version i reckon !!!
Assuming this was their only RMIT gig for '87, I was in there somewhere. It's a shame the whole show never surfaced, but the ABC weren't always too careful with their archiving.
What a shame the full gig wasn't broadcast. I saw a couple of these shows and they were awesome.
wow havent seen this one before.
looking forward to the reunion tour.
Totally agree "best band in the world" Aussie Magic pure @simple
Saw them last night in Albury. So damn good
INCREDIBLE
Cracking Show!
I wait them here in Brazil.
They had the Oils at my RMIT campus?! I mean I went there in 1998 myself. I always knew it that in the 1980's people just had it all in a wealth of entertainment sigh...
Full support ❤️💯
And let's not forget Glad Reed who contributed the brass dimension in the Diesel & Dust years.
Hirst beating that snare like it's a red headed, left handed step child.
Oh good god
I was at that
Remember how
The next day is my birthday
It’s HAPPY BITHDAY TO ME
It’s always on or around Labour day W/e in Victoria,
Moomba, family working for 10 days straight
Wow
maravilha de show!!
Oh yes!
I remember in 1997 a security guard executed a kid in a Midnight Oil concert in Porto Alegre. Brazil.
The kid's name was Ricardo Bueno, and the security officer is Wainer Hidalgo.
I wonder what happened to the murderer.
la qualité de ce concert...
good concert.
Oils doing Elvis Costello (or more accurately, Nick Lowe) - brilliant!
Lost me when Giffo left.....punching
rhythm and vocals along with Rob Hirst.
Luckily masterpieces like this exist.
What a great time to see them. caught them at a club in Palo Alto Cal. a year or two before this and was in awe.
Wow, listen to that early version of Dreamland? 'On a cloudy afternoon...'!
oh !!
F=+k how good was short memory
Needs to be included in Overflow Tank II. Sins of Omission. No love.
dreamworld !
fuck you are a good C%^t in our language....we grew up with you and You are a true representation of our true heart mate as aa political beast and a true voice for all of us white folk that were woke in as much as we were living in the best country on earth and our indigenous brothers and sisters had given us this gift....love ya mate forever!!
Yes! Seeing them in Frankfurt in July. Wonder if they'll start with Blossom and Blood?
Watched this after watching 2004 and 2009 shows for disaster aid etc. The band was infused with a more wacky feel in the 80s, indicative of the time. By the 2000s they were rocking harder and straighter, less 80s sounds in their instruments. Always awesome but interesting to note development of live sounds.
F yea,beamed down to American. Straya,Tasmania
different start to Dreamworld? never heard that before.
Last tour with Giffo...unfortunately
Yep. agree. but the back up vocals were different.
Yes..such drive...pity he's buried in the mix..
Aussie Made
Yep...you're right. Recently I was watching an offical documentary movie about the band and there was not a single word about Giffo in that...
I am still thinking he was a very significant part of the best period of this band, and a taste musician, very smart in his playing.
Wasn't aware of that. He is the Australian Tony Levin. Great at bass, and great on the music stick. Pardon my ignorance, but what has he done since/doing now?
Crowded House Neil Finn...Better Be Home Soon:)
80s..were great..just went too fast!!
Midnight Oil!
Crowded house, o dear...I feel sick. Boring as bat shit.
Split enz, yeah for sure.
But midnight oil are pissing down on crowed house from many galaxys away. Astromically distances a superior band.
@@fletcher932 Split Enz cool.
the one about the white horses was so phoned in
