Hey Braden, nice assumption there but guessing you don’t spray paint much. Unlike gloss and semi-gloss, flat paints dry very quickly when aerosolized. No overspray issues, especially on hot days like that one. The overspray on the cardboard was actually powdered a few inches away from the rifle, watch the video again and you can see it powdered and marked on the cardboard.
That turned out great. Even the section near the forward assist is fine. Don't want too much uniform look all over the weapon. I like the idea of starting with the dark base color if you're wanting lighter colors on top. I live in the desert so my instinct was to start with an FDE color which probably would have been a mistake. Thanks for a great video and great tips.
No issues. Trigger and all clearances on the buffer tube were good. That buttstock has plenty of slop in it anyway so it was actually better afterwards lol
lol. It’s all good. You really think I have a death wish, painting the wife’s car?!?! 😉 Aerosolized spray paint drys in about 12”, especially flat finishes. Notice the scuffs in the powdered paint on the cardboard at the end of the video.
Just seeing this today 8/22/22. I like your pattern. I use a dish scouring pad that you get at DG I cut and stretch it to length . It gives it a Snake skin pattern. Very tight design. I use a Matte Clear paint to seal and dampen any shiny spots . Thanks for sharing.
I was so careful and precise with my first rattle can project.. over the years, I just slop that shit while drinking. I just dont care. I still use an airbrush with decanted spraypaint though, because the thinner layering gives it superb durability. Looks great, bro.
So cool Matt, rifle looks great! Also nice to see an American car in the driveway. I was about to ask The Gun Dungeon if he'd heard from you, miss seeing you post. Have a happy long weekend.
Thanks Bob, you too! Not gone. Just lost some interest in UA-cam after they deleted most of my top videos. My Instagram is still going strong though. I post there almost daily, you should check it out. 😉. Getting ready to do a 2K follower giveaway.
Yeah Matt, I don't do the other social medias, to many bad memories for me from my LEO career involving children. Barely can do You Tube as I'm technology challenged lol.
At the beginning I was dubitative watching the way you were doing the paint job pn your drive way, but man I was amazed by the final result , great job 👏 , some people pay thousand to get a cerakote paint , you did better 😂
No issues at all, but you could always just remove the trigger group. There’s really nothing on the bottom of the trigger that that a bit of paint could adversely effect.
This is exactly how I would like mine to look, what colors did you use? I can see the light base coat is like a coyote brown but the darker colors I am wondering which you used, def appears like a dark green and brown. Thanks!
@@kentuckyrangetime awesome thanks. I am on break at work with machines running so I couldn't hear the video and if you mentioned the colors or not. Thanks again
Any update on durability? Curious how this would hold up just under regular woods/hunting use. Got me thinking about rattle canning my Grendel now lol 😂
Even with getting the good acetone prep I’m sure it will still scratch up. Mentioned that in my post a while back and one of the guys said “scratches just add to the pattern” 😂😂👍🏻👊🏻😉
@@kentuckyrangetime very true. I wonder if that rattle can duracoat would be a little tougher. The one with the hardener bulb you bust in the bottom of the can.
The wear is not a minus, if you want perfection get it cercoated or at the least vinyl wrapped...but if you want to change it at some point spray is the way
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL…. Flat paints dry fast and the car is 20’ away and even then you assume the wind only blows one direction?? You should get out and try stuff yourself instead of trying to armchair QB all the time.
@@Stonehombre1 Except assuming I over sprayed the car? lol Don’t feel bad your about the 5th person whose tried to give me a hard time over it. 😉. Actually, if you watch the video towards the end you can see the dry paint powder rolling up on the cardboard 8”-10” away from where I was spraying.
I ran several hundred rounds through it before I eventually traded it off and had no issues. Nothing too crazy though to hear the barrel up to really hot. I would guess that consecutive mag-dumps could eventually heat it up enough to effect the colors some but not sure.
Show us how to remove overspray from your car next lol.
