Pro Tip: If you put one hand over the gun while you spray then it looks like a turkey.

Unpopular opinion: as fabulous as Caleb's hair is, it'll never be as epic as Bob Ross's.
20 minute videos to cover what can be covered in 3 minutes. Oh well good to seel Caleb as always.
You have to give the man credit though, the first 7 minutes of his videos aren't montages of tacticool shooting with way too loud shitty royalty free metal buttoned up with some exploding title sequence than appears stolen from Windows Movie Maker. I'll take Caleb's (fun) rambling over that gun video staple any day ;)
@@woohoo2you966True that’ Focus (Dork) Tripp does that in every episode shooting steel case garbage ammo. What a clown.
@@TacticalBuffoonary Wow....I can't believe I have never seen one of his videos and now you owe me a new set of eyes because I just gouged out my own after watching it.
And to think dude almost had 50K subs.
If you don't like it, go make your own videos!
Little tip for anyone doing this who may not have stencils or may not want to use them: make wide streaks of the colors you want to use covering the entire rifle, then while the paint is still wet take a sponge or something and make smudges all over the rifle. It’ll blend the colors together and help break up the solid parts of your paint job. You can also do that with stencils just to get rid of any straight lines
I just painted my rifle and I wish I had seen this paper trick first damn it! I might paint it again.
I am so glad you made a video. No offense to all the other tutorials by others whom shall not be named. Lol. It's just your guys's videos I know I can trust and you guys are so calm about things, but yet cracking jokes. Reminds me of me grandpa. Just super level headed. God bless you guys!!
When I camo paint my rifles, I use the Brownells Alumihyde only for the base coat. For the other colors, I use the cheaper brands.
Solid
Little known fact... Eugene Stoner 🅱️ainted all his rifles. MIL-A-8625.1 calls for a base of FDE .0021 thick.
That mil-spec is not paint. It's anodized, so want to try again
Bainted? 🤔
@@DonnaSeward-m7l it means 🅱️aint.
Ahhhh... my 🅱️rethren 🐸🥁
Hard to tell if “heavily armed regards” or “tcnspi”😂
Your awesome caleb ive learned so much from you over the years. You make learning about firearms easy and enjoyable. Great job on this series. The Bob Ross references were the best.
best gunsmithing channel on youtube
love it Caleb! Nicely done...... Thanks for sharing..... I just built my first a few days ago..... but mine is already the colors I wanted. OD Green and Black combo...
Can you make an episode about AR-15 cam pin wear on upper receiver.
Some say it's normal for AR platform, others say it's an overgassing effect or bad fitting. What will you say about it? Is this something we should be worried about?
I like using netting and getting the snake skin like look. I learn something every time I paint a gun or bow.
"Happy Tree Accidents happen while camo pattern painting." Caleb Ross
Watched Bob Ross yesterday morning, Caleb today. Time to order some paint..
Brown paper packaging: extra bonus product!
Really liking these Brownells videos.
Now I'm itching to paint a gun. Lol.
Aluma-Hyde needs another shade of green, something lighter than OD.
Nice job Bob!
Thank u for the ideas..... I have several sheets of multicam sticker stencils but this video got me thinking about using the paper to create a sorta Vietnam Tiger stripe kinda patern.... I appreciate the brainstorming material!
I did my 18” bastardized MK12 clone with a base of FDE and stripes of OD and brown with a laundry bag. All Alumahyde 2. Came out great.
Reminds of the 60s/70s paint jobs on cars and motorcycles when guys would use lace for custom paint jobs.
i used adhesive stencils and baked between coats.. another i did wolf grey and black, battle wear.. both came out better than i imagined
A good camo pattern will be a mix of colors and textures. One chain of thought is that colors in nature are horizonal, and painting your rifle should reflect that, based on how you carry your rifle, most of the time. Should include stocks and grips.
Old style gauze will give a good bark like texture for camp.
torn masking tape works well for camo pattern. 3 in. masking tape torn up adheres well to the surface of the gun.
Here is a simple camo trick
You can test this on cardboard if you want.
Put on your base coat.
Then for the others
Take a paper plate and some paper towels.
Spray the plate heavily. Then scrunch up the paper towel. And dab it in the paint then the gun.
And you are welcome. I tried this a few weeks back. And was like wow. It’s that easy.
Great video Caleb. I think it would have looked even better if you would have net painted the base coat as well. Keep this content coming!
Just picked up some wolf grey for one of mine! Thanks for the videos and tips! The OD one I did turned out nice!
Another great video series. You make it look tooooooo easy! 😂
Thank you Caleb, nice! 👌
Excellent video as always!!
For those of you trying this or too scared to jump the gun, go to your local wholesale club like costco, bjs, or Sam's club. Look for yourself or ask an employee for the large cardboard pieces that divide products on a pallet.
I was that scared(more so nervous) because the first gun I ever painted was my wife's AR in her favorite color. I used a mesh laundry bag and laid down a large layer of turquoise (dinner plate size) and a large area of black. I laid the mesh down and sprayed black over the turquoise and turquoise over the black to see what looked best.
Now, I just repaint the gun if I don't like the outcome but spraying the cardboard first let's me get a visual if I'm looking for a specific pattern.
Yes, its a simple process but i hope this helps someone.
Caleb can you share how to part your hair perfectly series.
My local Joanne fabrics had a mesh material that worked good. Roughly 1cm squares and the fabric part was a bit thicker in diameter than a laundry bag so it let me get really good contrast lines if/where I wanted them as well as faded but still noticeable lines backing it off the surface a bit. Was pretty cheap too.
Base coat light color, than layered a bunch of alternating colors using the fabric and it turns out like a multicam/kryptek pattern that also has large blotches that change colors but blend in between.
And just like you should measure 2 or 3 times before making a cut, go over everything several times when making anything off 😆
I don't use netting, I use natural vegetation. 3 colors - tan, brown, olive drab.
Excellent tips and hints. Thanks 👍
Painters tape works great for making stencils
Who doesn't love fun pops?!
i USE ACTUAL LEAVES AND TWIGS TO PRESERVE THE BASE COAT IN THE PATTERN.
I would've liked the camera man to get in on net pattern. I was curious to see the fading in and out. Other than that, pretty significant blunder 😂 it was a really good series. 👍 enjoyed watching it.
Flectarn seafoam sponge next video!!
I love the way this came out. What else did you use besides Wolf Gray?
Dang it came out great
Used one of Moms doilys to paint a model car when I was a kid , never done that again.
Military issue laundry bags are the standard for painting a rifle.
FREEDOM STENCILS is awesome!
Thank You.
Caleb, what folding rear sight do you use on your gray AR w/ the ambi safety?
Im asking b/c I want the lowest profile I can get to go under an lpvo. TIA.
BTW, if you see this same question asked in different videos, it's because YT isn't fantastic about notifications re the answers to comments.
Would Aluma-Hyde work to do the hydro-dip thing where you spray a bunch of colors of paint on water and kind of swirl dip a whole rifle? You should try that.
Can i quick dry my polymer grips...as long as there's no rubber of course?
I'd probably paint it in such a way as to breakup it's length and straightness along with a shadow effect but that would be good for morning and late day effects. Sort of like if it was under a tree with branches casting shadows on you and the gun.
Caleb can you suggest what colors of alumahyde will get me as close as possible to old school night desert camo
Brownells videos look like they were made 50 years ago.
Does anyone know, if I have a receiver set from Aero, that’s already cerakoted, can this paint be applied right over it, or do I need to prep the receivers with acetone first? Thanks!
Can’t believe how many people need instructions on painting a gun. What is it for is the real question. Animals don’t have the best of vision and they will smell or hear you first.
I don't think anyone suggested this was for hunting animals.
@@rudyschwab7709of the 4 legged type anyways...

Caleb, what mount is that for your lpvo?
Can you guys get a few more greens and maybe a darker brown? If you guys had more colors more people would use it
Lost me on PPE part Company man. Ima do no ppe and huf the paint. We'll see how she turns out
i did the foliage thing.
Apparently you like fun pops, you're the one with the bag bahahaha!😂
Hi I’ve got a question for you guys! Using this video as it’s your latest. 38 super+p. In a star model AS i bought in 1973. I can’t find any info on the AS model ! The barrel is stamped (38/9mm). Is it safe to shoot 38 super +p ?? Thanks! 🇺🇸
@CalebSavant, do you have recommendations to where to start a gunsmithing education? I would really like to start doing more but know I have a lot to learn.
Sonoran desert institute
Nice 👍
🅱️aint!!!!!!
“Spoiler alert…. And then DON’T BAKE IT” 😜
Any black Friday offers for the paint?
Yes!
Daniel defense definitely misses this guy
I've never been employed by Daniel Defense.
This guy is funny.
Looking to paint the stock on my Ruger American, can I use the same paint and just not bake it?
Sure!
What paint booth set up you have going on here?
Looks like a work bench station with overhead lighting that's papered and taped up and maybe cardboard around the outside. Just creates a cubby. You could do the same with the 99 dollar work bench from harbor freight bc if im not mistaken it's got posts on the side, in the rear, to support the pegboard wall and light
Our booth has a very powerful fan and tubing pulling air put of the booth and out of the building.
I just use the walmart rustoleum camo paints. Its the best budget option for me and plus i like painting
Caleb has also painted many guns with Rustoleum.
He looks like a character from the torture house in Hostile.
Could you please paint a pistol or two, maybe a 1911 and a Glock?? Please 🙏🥺
Show feet. Mr Caleb 🅱️aints
What about Ghillie suits?
What about them?
You can paint them on your body with a Aluma-Hyde III.
Should have worn a Bob Ross wig. Missed opportunity.
And cover up that hair!? Forgedda bout it
Hi everybody
I don't want FOPP god damnit! I'm a Dapper Dan Man!!
If you are going to do Bob Ross, you have to have the Bob Ross hair. Just remember, in all that you do, do it all with the correct hair.
I bet MEK would take it off lol
Hello boys and girls... Remember, there are no mistakes.. Just happy accidents!
It's that barbed wire pattern that's tough to make. Hint don't use the real thing unless you like blood red droplets mixed in your pattern.
Cringe dude. No. No barbed wire lol
@@joshuabruce9920 you got that right. I really was being sarcastic.
Please do a revolver
Bump
Unsat.
Retraining required.
I use paint to paint all my guns.
Just rattle can it gents, don’t over think it
Baw I’m disappointed. I thought for sure you’d use a crawfish sack for netting
Not easy to get in Iowa
That classy slick hair is too distracting
Caleb is ai
That was painful to watch...
Why don't he just shut up and paint
