  • In this video we share our experiences over the last few weeks, what's taken place in our lives and why we haven't posted an update in a while. So there's good news, bad news and an ugly part unfortunately!
We've faced numerous challenges over the last few months so much so that we started questioning whether we were doing the right thing in pursuing a more self sufficient and off grid lifestyle here in the Overberg.
Anyway, we're pushing through and every day coming out of winter is getting better. We're here to stay! Thanks for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe and connect with us on Instagram @overberghomesteading.

Thanks for being honest about the issues that you guys are experiencing! Everything is a situation and when handling them one by one they tend not be that serious and like you say have a laugh! Keep on it will all work out and soon you'll forget all the G, B and U's that was all around!! Glad Elsa is fine! Soon to be homesteading in MP!

Thanks for watching! Yes, we just have soldier on and things will get better. It's really tough without the bakkie though, but hopefully we'll get it back soon. Good luck with your journey in MP. Make a channel so we can follow you!

Welcome to South Africa lol there is never a dull moment I’d love to see the people in America come and homestead here. They have it a lot more easy with access to a lot more. But at the end of the day I wouldn’t change our struggles or lack of access to products keep me from getting to where we would love to be. It’s what makes the homestead experience so much better. I feel your pain so much has happened this year but we have come out the other end keep pushing forward and keep up the great work

    Hi guys,
Sorry to hear about the ugly that has been taking place in your homestead.
I am based in South Africa and currently practicing homesteading from my small townhome. I harvest rainwater and grow vegetation.
A couple of years from now, I’ll take the big leap to the country side and be ready from the practicing and watching your videos :).
Thank you for the great content ❤.

When I saw the storms hit, I was worried about you guys. Then, when you didn't post any updates, I feared for the worst. I am so glad you posted an update finally and also that you are both okay, but sad to hear that you had so much more than the storms and flooding to deal with. I pray that you will have some good luck from now on and that all the issues will be sorted out quickly. Stay positive and keep moving forward, even if it is just baby steps every day. I am looking forward to seeing more videos from you.

Thanks so much! It really was a rough time but we've come through it and know now what needs to be done over summer to prepare ourselves for next winter. At the end of the day, we love it out here, with all the challenges, God has been good to us time and time again. We keep moving forward.....and filming this funny journey. Thanks for watching this mess 😂

Thanks so much! Yes, she was a bit shook up but she's a tough cookie. The bakkie is still in for repairs...eish ☹

So many hurdles to overcome but its good that you are not discouraged by the 'bad' and the 'ugly'. Take one day at a time, all will be well in due time.

Absolutely! We did get very discouraged but the Lord is good all the time - Basically He has shown us, over the winter time, where we need to fix and repair etc. etc.

I don't know why I thought Overberg was in the Drakensberg. I was very confused for a while.

The good: great, that things are going forward
The bad: shame, that was quite a list. Good, that your wife was not hurt, bad about the bakkie. Sad about fence/tree. Those trees don't have deep roots and don't get very old. The grass grows again quickly!
The ugly: whilst normally it isn't part of everyday conversation, bodily functions are not really something to be coy about. Call a spade a spade. That loo is an interesting option.
Lastly: pics of Jonathan in dungarees, straw hat and pitchfork and Elsa in flowery dress showing off garden produce? Nah

Just keep eating that elephant, it will be worth it in the end. We bought an old farm house in NW 12 years ago. Doing must of the work ourselves due to severe money shortage We have only 2000Sq mts but that's good thing now as my husband is disabled, On the way to independence for chickens and veg.. Saving for a couple of water tanks next NB ignore the Gabriel posting My son's old computer not got round to changing that

Thanks for watching! Yes, we keep on building and adding as the finances allow. Cant wait to get planting a few veggies but we're still so busy with the house renno and trying to get it more "livable" that we dont have much more time for anything else. BUT, we will persevere!!
