  • In this video, you'll learn how to make a shorter golf backswing and still generate insane power with all of your golf shots. This works for seniors, beginners, and all level golfers who are not able to swing the golf club to parallel at the top of the backswing. It's simple and easy to do, and when you apply these tips you'll find it easier on your body.
If you shorten your backswing as I demonstrate here, you won't lose distance with your driver or irons. You can maintain it and play better and more consistent golf. A short backswing is not a disadvantage in golf as some golf instruction might imply. You can still keep on hitting it solid and shooting lower golf scores

Troy - you answered my question yesterday and today I took the shorter swing and left shoulder down to the range. I striped it like crazy! If anything, I had to consciously make a bigger turn, because the shorter swing was set earlier and made me want to go just a bit sooner. But, other than that, the shorter swing coupled with left shoulder (just for a second) low was a - big time - combination. That you for the tips - best I have ever seen, at least for me - Tom in California

Good content. Best piece of advice I got in shortening my back swing was when my pro told me I can have a bigger shoulder turn with a shorter back swing. Felt awkward at first but now I think of bigger shoulder turn and getting the arms only to 90 deg at the top. It probably goes a bit further because the feel isn't real but it does help me increase the width like you talked about.

    • @Hittingitsolid

Enjoyed the video! When I first started golfing about 20 years ago I had a short back swing that always produced good contact. In the years since then, I've had instructors and other golfers try to "correct" my swing. I've consistently struggled with poor contact that seemed to be getting worse over the years. But now there seems to be a growing movement in golf to "swing your own swing". Watching players like Rahm and Finau, and seeing your video had me convinced it was time to find my way back to my original swing. Watched the tips in your video and everything felt so natural again after putting it into practice. I'm now striking the ball better than I ever remember. Thanks for the help.

I’m over 60 now (play 3-4 times per week) and keep trying to get a big backswing and actually seem to “get lost” as I do this. Additionally, I tend to early extend, but never seem to be able to correct this as my big backswing is such a mess. Today, I tried a shorter backswing on my own, just focusing on getting clubhead speed and my follow-thru and I hit the ball immensely better. After hearing your tips, I’m emboldened to continue this with a bit more technique this time.

I've noticed something interesting on flight monitors. My distance and ball speed goes up substantially when I feel like I'm rotating my entire body/left side and keeping my wrists from cocking too much or getting too loose. So I feel like I maintain feel on backswing and as swinging through all the way down my left side and have full body tension. As soon as I swing with less tension due to letting my wrists cock more at start of my downswing or anything feeling sort of loose and not just like one giant body turn I lose power. I've noticed this many times. So the top of my backswing is just sort of where this tension get to where I naturally stop without pushing back too far or even stop a little short of that. For me this tension and full body turn is critical for distance as opposed to a long backswing or full wrist hinge. Anything that makes me loose this full body connectedness/tension loses me power. I have never seen anything written about this though but I do thing the tour pros look like they maintain this sort of full body tension no matter how big their swing. And of course need to stay wide in the arc.

So I have been back and forth with different swings over the years. I find my best shots are always my shorter wedges because for some reason when I strike them it's always a 3/4 swing. Back controlled and through to 3/4. The shots feel very pure and I connect with them well and the distances are more predictable. I have been thinking maybe I should just apply this to all irons and lead me to this video.

Here's my take on the shorter backswing, it's not the swing, PGA Tour Players play with different equipment than we do, for example, Golf Balls, Tweaking with their OMI Driver Face, Shafts the list is long, still meets Golf Specs but pushed to the max for performance, if the right Hip gets through the swing with a Long Backswing or Short Backswing huge different if your Driver or Irons are not Jacked for performance, the first thing going away for 2024, are Golf Balls so the distance is the same regardless who the brand is...just like NASCAR, all the vehicles have the same top speed, hopefully, the Equipment is next, you won't have scores in the Sixtys, especially on shorter Yardage Courses, or keeping your Golf Ball in play off of Spectors and having them find your ball.
