  • Today I get a golf lesson to fix the wrists in the golf swing. With these wrist fixes on the downswing and transition, it helps me compress the ball and gets my hips open effortlessly. My golf coach Dana Dahlquist goes over the proper way to use golf swing kinematics to do this, and we also go over golf tips and drills to achieve all this.

LETS GO!! This again is pure gold. Thanks Jerome! and Thank you Dana!! Stay with the grind and trust the dojo master Dana, he is 100% giving solid pure gold. I hope to get a lesson with him as soon as my shoulder heals. I have been working on wedges and driver so much lately and I'm deep in the struggle right now. I've been using the pro-sender a lot and it has really helped with getting shaft lean and more rotation. Remember rotation still needs vertical extension like the toe to heel lead pushing force and getting taller through contact! I'm excited for the next video!

Instant compression and divots that I've dreamed of for 30 years.I have always been a picker of the ball due to breakdown at impact. Still a decent golfer (12 handicap) regardless. But the explanation about squaring club face halfway down clicked and the body just does it's thing. Driver was a bit different, once I started playing with pacing I started striping it one after another. Best lesson I ever had! Thank you so much Dana!

Those are definitely the keys to ball striking. What's interesting is that you are coming full circle back to Mike Wydra's ONE DRILL video concerning the proper wrist delivery of the club into the ball (there's a punch shot in every golf shot). Mike does it differently because he drops down steeply in the downswing and then gets the wrists in the right position to get the natural draw and power produced by hands ahead, lead wrist in flexion. This shows that there is more than one way to get there but the effect through impact is the same. As Mike explained, these wrist positions get the hands ahead at impact, the club workting inside out, and the club descending into impact (for an iron), with the face squaring to the arc all through this one mechanism. It's pure magic for the golf swing! It is also one of the biggest keys to effortless power. I am very happy to see this coming into your swing, Jerome. Cheers.

Coach Dana makes this amazingly simple. He says to practice hitting it straight and hook it low drawing left. Obviously one can’t play that way. Implied that’s a drill and more to come.
Where does coach explain how to fix low hook? Is it just more lateral hip shift and turn hips more?
Sounded like he was gonna do a lesson on helping straighten this big hook out.

What a great lesson. I really like this coach. You did great Jerome. I too agree that you are likely overthinking it…. Likely because it doesn’t “feel good”.
After watching this lesson, I went to the range and mimicked everything that was said. it sure feels foreign, and most all my balls were going left and low (exactly what he wanted). This obviously isn’t an ideal ball flight and not something that looks or feels good or can play good golf with, but it’s a stepping stone. I’ve realized you have to be uncomfortable in order to get comfortable in the correct position. Stick with the process! My compression has already improved , and will continue to practice these wrist angles until I don’t have to consciously think about it

honestly, big thanks to you and Mike Wydra and the driver video you did with him. I had a eureka moment about allowing the hands move further ahead at impact. it's really helped my game. I had a wrong mental image of keeping the hands back to promote hitting up on the ball. I see some similar ideas here in this video and am glad it's clearing up some of your issues with the hips and the hands. you're not the only one.

Dana might have explained better for you to understand, but this whole idea was already there in your first "HOF" coach Mike's lessons, but you didn't know enough to understand it at the time. And Dana fixed the swing mechanics things before you get to this point. From the beginning, there is no "hand flipping" thing as you called it back then. Active releasing is impossible to be consistent with. It happens because of the centrifugal force when you rotate.

Good point, its like learning things have to hit you multiple times before it starts to make sense. Could you link that first vid your talking about?

Omg! On my own journey I feel like I’m doing the same things I was doing when I first started but because I didn’t have a full understanding of everything I couldn’t put everything together. In this video Dana is talking about bowing the wrist (there is a better term but I forgot it) and I was already doing that but I stopped doing it because I thought I wasn’t supposed to. Now that I have a freer swing and my timing is correct I guess I can go back to the wrist bend and continue working on getting my lead hip back and rotated.
Golf is frustrating as Shit! But when you go from hitting your 7 iron 145 to 160 and the occasional 170…it gets addicting.

You’re absolutely right. I even found the video from 9 months ago with his old swing coach giving the same instruction. Funny that Jerome is wearing the same shirt in both videos. I like Dana’s teaching style more because he focuses Jerome on the correct inputs, even when Jerome wants to detract with new swing thoughts. Keep it simple.

what about the ball height and tee indicators like how deep or high should it be when it comes to drivers?

High handicapper trying to grasp this…so you are in a fixed wrist position from a certain point on the trail side through ball contact like in a punch shot? Also does Dana recommend flat lie angles on irons?

Great videos! One suggestion: can you use 1 line at the bottom for your transition comments? T full list blocks the video.

I can't watch these often because you don't just listen and enact, you always have to question and suggest, just do what the man says.

questioning is good. he should ask as many as he needs too. he’s been getting way better. he listens too. his brain is different then yours he comprehends his own way. don’t watch then.

I don’t think alot of people realize how hard it is to get your body to do things your brain thinks it’s doing. That’s why the real vs feel thing is so true.

JR, simple feel for me. At the top, maintain wrist structure and just extend the right elbow towards the camera as you turn. Will turn the face down to where Dana wants it and your pivot will keep the flex in your wrists. Dont try do it in the wrists itself. It’ll happen. 🙌🏻
