That's awesome. We did our roof with three full gallons of flex seal. Not a permanent solution but certainly kept any new water from making its way in. Cheers on your adventure. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help with.
Came out nice I'm in the process of restoring a 1986 Fleetwood Southwind on same chassis as yours. My goal is to have it look similar to this great job!
Thanks so much for the kind words sir! It’s been a lot of sweaty days and nights, working in a parking lot with no electricity or running water, but I’m really pumped about the outcome.
I plan on doing the butcher block and getting a single bowl sink instead of the double to increase counter space. I'm also going to go with a convection oven and get rid of the gas oven and range and go with Induction plug-in burners. They will not be built in, so when I'm doing food prep I have a LOT of counter space. I plan on a huge battery bank (over 1kwh) and solar, and getting rid of as many gas appliances as I can.
That will be an awesome project Brian! Best of luck to you to take on such a big undertaking. That being said, we’ve enjoyed doing the projects on ours quite a bit
Thanks for posting, looks great! Wanted to get your feedback on the P30 454 engine. I'm in the process of doing my renovation on a Foretravel with the 454 but dont have any experience with this engine. Thanks
Augustus, it would be hard to give an opinion because it’s the only RV/engine we’ve ever known, so I don’t have much of a point of reference compared to others. I can tell you we have crossed the Rockies, gone through several passes over 9,000 feet in elevation and spent lots of time down gravel roads, with less then ideal roadways and never had any huge problems. Cheers to your project, it’s worth the effort for sure!
Love the look of this RV! My wife and I just got our ‘91 31ft Bounder yesterday and I am o pumped to get working on the renovation! We are pretty much using this video as a guide for our reno so thank you! I had a few questions about the ceiling as well as the old school incandescent switch style lights. Our RV has a fabric material on the ceiling. Did you keep this stuff or pull it down and paint? I would love to get rid of it but not sure what is underneath 😬 I also plan to paint the AC plastic vents as they are now yellow and covered in years of dust. Finally, hoping to switch out the old switch lights for LED lights. Did you do this or did you keep the old ones in there? Great video and beautiful renovation! Thank you for sharing and looking forward to hearing your suggestions!
Chris, congrats on the acquisition of your new bounder...what an adventure you’re about to embark on! We kept the carpet type fabric on our ceiling. Under it is pretty much the underlayment plywood that’s under the roof material. My fear if you rip it down and paint, is the RV is going to be suuuuuper loud when it rains or when you are driving, the material on the roof eats a lot of noise and keeps it from being one big echoey box. We plan to switch out our older dome lights for new LED’s for sure. The older ones burn kinda hot, and they use a LOT more power off the batteries then LED ones do. Each piece of the renovation will take longer, and be more expensive then you think, but it will be worth every minute and penny. Follow me on IG @outdoorspodcast and we can talk directly if you have questions, I’d love to help if I can.
Great video, your comment about the view while driving was spot on. People join me up front when we're traveling and love it! We have a slightly newer Bounder ('95 chassis). Have you done anything about your headlights? Retrofit them with LED or anything. Ours is terrifying to drive at night, the low beams shine about 12 feet in front. High beams are awesome. Ours is bone stock, had it for 6-7 years and need to do something with it. What did you do with the floors? Is that a pocket door to the redesigned bath?
We haven’t changed our headlights, and like yours, they are garbage. We just don’t drive at night. We are rarely ever making jumps longer than 3 hours so it’s pretty rare we have to drive at night. The floor is vinyl roll that looks like wood, we’ve been very happy with it so far. The door to the bathroom swings out into the hallway, also original.
Hey! Saved your video in case I needed inspiration on my Bounder. Working on under the cabinet lights and not sure where to start. Do yours have switches to turn them on individually? Is there a main switch to turn them all in in the living/kitchen area? I bought pick lights but I’m afraid if we wire them in we won’t be able to control whether they are in or off. Any suggestions would be awesome!
Great Reno on your bounder. I have the same one. I was wanting to do it in white and… YES it looks great. I was wondering if you know much about the heating system. I live in northern Alberta and I was wanting to winterize my unit to live in. I noticed one heat vent in the water tank area and one in the sewage tank area but air does not appear to be flowing through them. Do you know if there is a shut off some where in the unit. Or can you direct me to someone who would know. Oh… and I am totally new to camping.
Big Unit I would say we've spent somewhere around $5,000 - $7000 on the total renovation project including the exterior paint(which I just posted an updated video about). The interior is probably in the $5k range if I had to estimate it.
Hi, we really enjoyed your video of your renovation. You did a really good job, especially with the bedroom. Question: what kind of paint did you use for the kitchen cabinets?
Javid, thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the kind words. Sadly I don’T have the can of paint we used anymore so I can’t really give you a good answer. I would highly suggest a good amount of sanding on both the cabinet fronts and the cabinet structure themeselves as our paint has released in a few places. We’ll be updating that before too long.
I have a 1990 31K with the 5.7L Chevy. Does your trans have a D-Overdrive (4th gear)? My Turbo400 does not and I am trying to find an aftermarket inline overdrive unit so I can safely travel the highways at 65mph. Next ? What kind of paint did you use on the cabinets and what prep did you do before painting over the vinyl woodgrain? I want to replace all the particle board cabinets with real wood. Nicer appearance and it's lighter in weight. Also I need to replace the rear bedroom floor. Whole particle board subfloor damaged from water. How far did you go to get your beautiful floor. Thank you. I am truly inspired to get on with my project. "Duke"
Duke, we do have an overdrive gear in ours. 2. Scan the other comments, because I think I’ve answered the paint question before and honestly can’t remember off the top of my head, going that many years back. The floor was installed by the previous owner so I can’t speak much other then we completed the work in the bedroom and it was super simple.
Great Video, I like what you did with interior it looks awesome. My wife and I just got our 1992 33ft bounder back from the shop and are on the look out for more ideas. So far our interior is about 75% done. We still need the flooring on the stairs along with some other miner things. Did you do any flooring? .
Thanks so much for watching! I’m excited for your project. The former owners did the majority of the vinyl flooring, we just finished up in the bedroom. We’ve liked it so far.
I was just wondering what the name and color is that you used for your cabinets? Also what did you do with the wiring boxes that are under the bed? Thank you so much !!! Loved your remodel 😊 Great job
Valspar Ultra Interior Semi Gloss, 101-1Y42, 107-18, 109-4,113-31. We reintegrated the wiring boxes into the new frame, so my wife and I both have an outlet on our sides of the bed.
ive got a 99 bounder .Its a 36s.thanks for sharing the video..have you thought about one of those expanding shower curtain rod in your shower?.it folds back in once you expand it.i had it in my Springdale travel trailer because i was forever rubbing the shower curtain with my elbows...it gives a lot more room, you can get for around 40 or 50 bucks on amazon
Dan we've actually talked about it before but I haven't really pressed it. I tend to shower in campground showers more and my wife ends up using the onboard shower most of the time. She's pretty small at 5'2" and petite so she has plenty of room. Thanks so much for watching the video. I just posted an updated video that shows the new exterior paint and some work we did to change up the dinette area as well.
Thanks so much for the kind words Denise! They are a dark blueish grey. Unfortunately we don’t have the paint with us or I’d give you the exact color code and maker.
Beautiful updates. What kind of wood used for $9 in the bathroom? Also, what is the glass storage under the microwave for? thank you and thanks for sharing!
Thanks Monica. I’m pretty sure it was just a piece of maple, that we stained and then polyurethaned from Home Depot or lowes, can’t remember which anymore.
May I ask what type of ikea couch you have here as we are buying a 94 bounder ! And I bet this bed is a lot bigger! Also did you remove the chair cause the couch would be to large ? Ty so much for this video ! Liked subscribed and shared !
Tonya we did remove the chair, but not for the bed, we just don’t need a third chair with no kids aboard. The couch itself is www.ikea.com/us/en/p/friheten-sleeper-sofa-hyllie-dark-gray-20432084/. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for subscribing.
A couple questions: What is the best process for getting the disgusting carpet removed and installing something not carpet lol? What kind of paint did you use for the cabinets? I want to paint mine but hubby is worried it'll start to bubble and look bad.
Pearly that's a great question. The former owners removed all the carpet, we simply laid down this roll of thick vinyl, wood floor looking stuff. We've liked it so far and we used a liquid nails type adhesive to stick it to the subflooring.
Hi, I recently bought the same blinds you have. Im wondering how you secured them in? We drive around a lot and I was worried they may fall down. Thank You!
We unfortunately didn't capture that much of it. We had to do most of the work in a parking lot with no electricity or access to water. Lots of trips back and forth from our condo to the storage area. When the temps fluctuate like they do in St. Louis, we tried to focus on getting the work done when we could instead of filming. We have a new coach now that we are going to be doing most of the same stuff to so you should follow along for updates!
Also how were the front windows in the driver's compartment I noticed they looked pretty good but did you do anything with them minor all fogged up I got to take them apart and fix them or replace them
Generally speaking, how is the build of the 1993 Bounder... I have a chance of buying one with about 26,000 miles on it and, yes, it's old inside but passable.. good for our first venture into motorhomes... anything to keep an eye out for..(Other than roof issues - I know what to look for there...)... Thanks!
Matt we’ve been really pleased with our bounder so far. She’s been easy to work on and there is a ton of information available out there for newbies. We don’t really have a point of reference to compare to as it’s our only RV so far. Make sure the tires and brakes are in really good shape as those can be big expenses to replace early. Where are you based out of Matt?
Very good job, I just bought a 90's bounder, it's in very good condition, but I want to paint the cabinets, my fear is how to paint the walls that are boarded up without the paint not spilling or simply not sticking ?
A light sanding will go a long way, then just make sure you really clean the walls well with mineral spirits or water to make sure you have any dust/dirt off the walls before you paint
How long is your bounder? I was just gifted a 28-foot her and my refrigerator is on the other side I would love having a couch but I just don't have enough space for it.
@@OutdoorsPodcast Ours is the 29ft and the refrigerator is on the same side as the dinette. No room for a couch, but we did take out the passenger chair across from the table. It makes a bit more space.
Ours is a queen and it fits nicely. We'd struggle to be comfortable together in a full and a king likely wouldn't fit with the bed side table I built. Cheers and enjoy your Bounder!
old post we know but just an FYI to anyone looking for an older rv the bounder is a wise choice and a solid buy however stay away from anything with the triton v10 within this year rv ! ford fixed the problems after 2001 but anything 1997 to 1999 do not buy if at has the triton in it the 454 or the ford 460 is perfect for these.
Travis, I wish I knew the answer to that one. What I can tell you, is join the 1985 - 2005 Fleetwood Bounders Owners Group on Facebook. Make a post about your year, chassis and engine type…like mine is a ‘93 P30 with Chevy 454….and the problem you are having…and in about an hour, you’ll have your answer. The group is full of incredible people that seem to have the answer to just about any issue you could be having. Best of luck and hope to see you in the group.

Joe, do you have a full tank of propane, the valve open and your Carbon Monoxide detector turned on? If you don’t have the sensor, typically located just at foot level near the fridge turned on, the propane won’t flow to your furnace and the air won’t heat up
I have a 1993 fleetwood bounder. 3 of my front clearance lights are not working. I took them off and no wire is available. just two bolts pertruding shall. how do you get to the wiring?
Corey, I was wonder when that question was going to pop up! It's difficult to say exactly for two reasons, we haven't kept every receipt and many of the costs I have incurred aren't only for the bus. That being said, I'd imagine we are about $4-6 grand in on all of the renovations. We've painted the inside, all new cabinet hardware, a new couch, new countertop in the kitchen, completely redid the bathroom, fixed water damaged walls, flex sealed the roof, built a new bed and nightstand, plumbing work, generator work.... The costs that add up aren't the actual items you install or the wood, it's the paint brushes, cleaning materials, screws, tools, fasteners and other stuff that really pinch your wallet. We are going to paint the outside of the bus this week and we spent $199.00 on rollers, paint trays, blue tape, sand paper, paint poles and all of that, before we event spend $200-$300 on the pain itself. I say all of this to tell you this, don't let the cost deter you...we could have saved money all over the place and spent a lot less then we have if we just wanted to cruise around. We want this to feel like home so we have spent more money then we'll get back on the sale of our beloved "Doris" and that's ok...
Carter, would you be happier if it was a 20 foot mini school bus...it's 30 feet long, and sure feels like a bus to me when I drive it across the country. Feel free to keep it moving buddy.
Louie...my goodness man where do I start...would you be cool with me calling it that if it were a renovated 12 passenger short school bus, I think those are about 20 feet long... I recognize that our coach isn't as fancy, or as big as a full fledged bus, but dude, if you are worrying about the words people use to talk about the coaches they have spent five years working on and traveling in, I'm sorry buddy. I do appreciate your mustache though, that's quite a healthy upper lip sweater, and I always recognize strong staches.

I found one of these next to an abandond house it looks exactly like that and its also got the 454 engine
Well that’s a hell of a find then
What minivan is that? My parents had a 97 town&country AWD when I was a kid. I loved that gen of Chrysler minivan.
I have the exact same rv I love how you did yours I would love to know what couch you have chosen I need a link
Check out the updated video we did, and check the comments. Pretty sure I have the couch linked there.
I just got a 91 34 ft bounder gonna remodel it soon too
That’s awesome!
I love it. Did you have to make any mechanical repairs?
Myron we’ve done new brake master cylinder, new tires, alignment, and some mechanical work on the generator, but otherwise she’s run like a champion.
Love it …
Thanks Michelle!
@@OutdoorsPodcast how much for the complete rig?
We don’t really use lights that often, if we are boondocking, we just have some battery operated string lights that turn on with a better back.
Ya'll did an amazing job! I'm looking into buying a bounder that's going to need updating . What did ya'll spend on the interior renovations?
Big Unit I would say we've spent somewhere around $5,000 - $7000 on the total renovation project including the exterior paint(which I just posted an updated video about). The interior is probably in the $5k range if I had to estimate it.
I have a 1992 fleetwood bounder
What is the name of the couch from ikea? Thank you! Awesome remodel!
Not sure, we bought it second hand
Fantastic job on the Bounder! What color are the kitchen cabinets below the sink? They look blue?
Thanks so much for the kind words Denise! They are a dark blueish grey. Unfortunately we don’t have the paint with us or I’d give you the exact color code and maker.
Just bought a 1989 Winnebago RV. Plan on leaving in it and plan on remodeling. Any suggestions would help
Thomas the only suggestion I have is be patient. Some things will be easy to fix, others will be more challenging. Take your time if you can.
@@OutdoorsPodcast -Thank you!
Can you say more about that removable tv? Where did you get that arm clip to the shelf?
All I can say is I found it at a Walmart. I’m sure if you look on Amazon for a desk mounted TV boom arm, you’ll find something similar.
We have the a 195-6 z38 Bounder
That’s fantastic. Does she have a name?
May I ask what type of ikea couch you have here as we are buying a 94 bounder ! And I bet this bed is a lot bigger! Also did you remove the chair cause the couch would be to large ? Ty so much for this video ! Liked subscribed and shared !
Tonya we did remove the chair, but not for the bed, we just don’t need a third chair with no kids aboard. The couch itself is www.ikea.com/us/en/p/friheten-sleeper-sofa-hyllie-dark-gray-20432084/. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for subscribing.
A couple questions:
What is the best process for getting the disgusting carpet removed and installing something not carpet lol?
What kind of paint did you use for the cabinets? I want to paint mine but hubby is worried it'll start to bubble and look bad.
Pearly that's a great question. The former owners removed all the carpet, we simply laid down this roll of thick vinyl, wood floor looking stuff. We've liked it so far and we used a liquid nails type adhesive to stick it to the subflooring.
Hi, I recently bought the same blinds you have. Im wondering how you secured them in? We drive around a lot and I was worried they may fall down. Thank You!
I simply screwed them into the cabinets above rather then into the wall of memory serves me correctly
Love it...is that a 31K?
Kax you nailed it. 31k indeed. Fellow 31k owner?
@@OutdoorsPodcast yes, 1993.
Well we are Bounder buddies then, cause that’s the year of ours as well!
Did your Bounder come with swivel captains chairs?
Ours did yes. There is a toggle on the side that allowed them to swivel.
How much estimated did you put into this build i really like the 90s pace arrow rvs. Just curious thanks !
We’ve got about $5k-6k if I had to guess, we’ve been working on the EV for 5-6 years now so it’s hard to really dial in that number.
I have a 92 and would love to know the Ikea model number or description for that couch
Check out the other comments, I know I have it linked in there somewhere. Thanks for watching
Do you have the process of your Reno on video by any chance?
We unfortunately didn't capture that much of it. We had to do most of the work in a parking lot with no electricity or access to water. Lots of trips back and forth from our condo to the storage area. When the temps fluctuate like they do in St. Louis, we tried to focus on getting the work done when we could instead of filming. We have a new coach now that we are going to be doing most of the same stuff to so you should follow along for updates!
Also how were the front windows in the driver's compartment I noticed they looked pretty good but did you do anything with them minor all fogged up I got to take them apart and fix them or replace them
Ours have been great. Sounds like you have a seal problem somewhere.
I've seen lots of ppl have this same problem, its a manufacturer problem and usually have to be replaced unfortunately.
Matt another thing to look for is any electrical issues. If it sat for a period of time, there's always a chance that mice could've chewed some wires
I'm looking st buying s 93 bounder with 27k miles in Anson tx. Any chance we're looking at the same one?
What did you redo the Interior ceiling with, I have like a carpet which is stained and dirty which I want to replace what are my options?
We haven’t replaced ours. We did have some water stains from the damage, we cleaned them the best we could and decided it wasn’t worth worrying about.
How do you remove the screens with the wind out windows. I just bought a1993 bounder and I'm doing some work on it
I haven’t had to take those out personally
Very good job, I just bought a 90's bounder, it's in very good condition, but I want to paint the cabinets, my fear is how to paint the walls that are boarded up without the paint not spilling or simply not sticking ?
A light sanding will go a long way, then just make sure you really clean the walls well with mineral spirits or water to make sure you have any dust/dirt off the walls before you paint
How long is your bounder? I was just gifted a 28-foot her and my refrigerator is on the other side I would love having a couch but I just don't have enough space for it.
Ours is the 31k floorplan. So 31 feet. We pulled out the Jack knife futon for the couch.
@@OutdoorsPodcast Ours is the 29ft and the refrigerator is on the same side as the dinette. No room for a couch, but we did take out the passenger chair across from the table. It makes a bit more space.
What did you do with the heater under the bed ?
When we purchased the bus, the entire bedroom had been ripped out, so no heater existed.
Hi! My husband just purchased a 1990 bounder. We are wondering what size bed to put into it. Is yours a queen?
Ours is a queen and it fits nicely. We'd struggle to be comfortable together in a full and a king likely wouldn't fit with the bed side table I built. Cheers and enjoy your Bounder!
old post we know but just an FYI to anyone looking for an older rv the bounder is a wise choice and a solid buy however
stay away from anything with the triton v10 within this year rv !
ford fixed the problems after 2001
but anything 1997 to 1999 do not buy if at has the triton in it
the 454 or the ford 460 is perfect for these.
I would disagree personally, I think that chassis on that motorhome drives pretty wild for a newbie…
Wish someone could tell me we're the starter solenoid is at...can't get mine started
Did you use some seat covers for the captain chairs? If so, where did you get them?? Thanks!
Emily we did, we really like them!

What to do if your heater doesn’t warm up the air
Joe, do you have a full tank of propane, the valve open and your Carbon Monoxide detector turned on? If you don’t have the sensor, typically located just at foot level near the fridge turned on, the propane won’t flow to your furnace and the air won’t heat up
@@OutdoorsPodcast I’ll check that
Yeah the light is supposed to be blinking that means is detecting propane
@@josesandoval-vc3gb hard to know why your system isn’t heating up. I’d suggest dining a local mobile RV repair guy that can help diagnose.
I have a 1993 fleetwood bounder. 3 of my front clearance lights are not working. I took them off and no wire is available. just two bolts pertruding shall. how do you get to the wiring?
Dave I have absolutely no idea man. I wish I knew more when it comes to that stuff.
Which Ikea couch is that please?
Look in the comments, i know we dropped it in there somewhere and I can’t remember off the top of my head sorry.
How much did you spend on the restoring this?
Very nice 💥🌈
Thanks Michelle, we’ve worked really hard on it
I thought a 454 Is a 8.1l not a7.3l
Maybe on the Ford? I know for a fact ours is 7.3
So how long is it ?
Doris is 31 feet long
7.4 454 engine, not 7.3 sir.
Thanks for the correction
@@OutdoorsPodcast no problem sir. Beautiful rig.

Why keep calling it a Bus? A Bus is for Public Transportation.
Loved the renovations and Video otherwise, Looks Great.
Thanks Dennis, we call it a bus for simplicity. Easiest thing to roll off the tongue.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Dennis I've been watching this stuff on and off for the past couple of months and I've noticed that people either call them a bus or a coach.
Not a bus 🤣😉
Carter, would you be happier if it was a 20 foot mini school bus...it's 30 feet long, and sure feels like a bus to me when I drive it across the country. Feel free to keep it moving buddy.
Please stop calling your rig a “Bus”…it is not! It is simply a class A.
Provost, American Eagle and Country Coach are bus worthy monickers…
Louie...my goodness man where do I start...would you be cool with me calling it that if it were a renovated 12 passenger short school bus, I think those are about 20 feet long...
I recognize that our coach isn't as fancy, or as big as a full fledged bus, but dude, if you are worrying about the words people use to talk about the coaches they have spent five years working on and traveling in, I'm sorry buddy.
I do appreciate your mustache though, that's quite a healthy upper lip sweater, and I always recognize strong staches.
