We recently checked out the Rotorway A600 Helicopter; a quick build experimental helicopter that you can build in your garage. Here is owner of that Helicopter David giving us a second look and going more in-depth on the specs of his newly built helicopter.
The A600 helicopter uses a converted custom built engines with power output of 168 HP. This is the turbocharged version. If you go for a standard A600 kit, then you’ll be down to 147 HP. The helicopter will climb at a respectable 1000 feet per minute and you are cruising between 80 to 100 miles per hour. A brand new A600 Talon kit which includes the engine runs for about $160,000
Engine: RH600T 168HP
Capacity: 2
Useful load: 620 lbs
Range: 200 miles
Speed: 90 - 100 mph
Price: $160,000

For anyone interested in this helicopter I highly recommend watching an old TV show called 'A chopper is born' on YT starring mark Evans. I think he built this exact helicopter or very similar one. The guy is quite entertaining to watch too
Hey Mike stay away from that dude he is coughing or clearing his throat every 2"! He might have IT. Also I wouldn't sit on the left seat with an asian no offence and don't want to come as a racist, but they are not regarded as the best pilots you know..
Sorry maybe I'm a bit sensitive because of recent news, but I'd hate to learn something bad happened to you.
Godspeed.
That we me you’re talking about. At the time of filming it was below freezing about 21F. All video segments were shot in one go and this was the last one. We were freezing. I could barely move my arms. I’m particular sensitive to dry air and also I was coughing because of my meds - it’s a common side effect. I wasn’t contagious. :)
Agustin Enzoa you may not want to come across as racist, but you are
@@agustinenzoa4447 dude... What you said is the literal definition of racist, wtf.
@@agustinenzoa4447 lol that whole ass comment racist
I was a mechanic and crew in the Army on Hughes 500... its really cool to see how refined this Rotorway aircraft has evolved. Really sharp looking aircraft.
William Ferguson II Thanks! I’ve been following them for 40 years and finally did it. It’s the most refined ship yet.
Little Bird❤️
The Hughes 500d….the sexiest one of the lot. They’re great.
Mike most helicopters have horizontal stabilizers. Where have you been? The Bell 206, 407, 222, Huey and pretty much every heli I can think of have horizontal stabs.
Great job David on your built. I hope to see some of your flying adventures with your 600 on utube. Thanks Mike for bringing the video to us
Super sweet! Need a flight demo on that one! Especially right from his driveway!
Great vid. I wanna see it fly! 😊
For the regular kit is 149k and 9k extra for the turbo option. Been looking at these for a couple of years now and really thinking on getting one of these bad boys
you sure? I thought a whole turbo kit was 129
Cod Mott thats whats showing on their website 🤷🏼♂️, i dont know if they change the prices
Why? Why spend 150K-160K then another 1-2 years building it? Rotoways depreciate fast.
Why not buy a turn-key Italian factory built, modern, carbon fiber, Dynali H3 instead, with a better engine $135,000? Delivery in 4 months...….Not 8. ua-cam.com/video/oLFtfY6kkhc/v-deo.html
Excellent video!
Keep up the great work!
Wow seriously KoooL !!
Cool looking helicopter
Are we ever going to see it fly?
Jeff Thomas you are on UA-cam you know.
Amazing build well done
"Some people learn it as they go." Yikes.
Another great video, Mike. Excellent content.
Yes that's true about most things in life...you learn as you go. No one is instantly an expert at something.
@@sobc2737 I know. I was a little harsh.
That's how the Wright Brothers started out.
@@davem5333 Yes!! They tried and failed numerous times. Great example.
Do they also have 4 or 5 passenger capacity with longer range up to possible 500 miles. If possible.
More videos without a test flight... What a tease.
It might be nice to revisit and do a flight in this helicopter 🚁, I’m still waiting to watch that helicopter flying!
This channel is so great about educating about aviation makes and models!
Austin Brumfield if you can avoid the misinformation then yes it is.
What’s the price for a new complete build.?
*"AND OFF TO THE RESCUE!"*
Thank you David
Also, we at Flyinside have just released a 162F in our latest update :)
At 5:01 you operate the yaw pedals with your fingers but when I test flew a 162F I found the pedals very heavy compared to the R22 that I was rated on. It was connected with Bawden cables if I remember correctly and I had previously seen that on power boats which were also heavy. Is this aircraft different or was I just flying a bad example perhaps? (I just figured out that I'm asking the wrong person but I'll leave it here for discussion)
For a few seconds there, I thought the dude was using an Ariel Atom as his airport tug. rarely am I so glad to be mistaken... :)
I was wondering what that Dune-Buggy looking vehicle was, It looks to have running lights, street legal? Got to check that vehicle out!
@@lvgeorge Yeah, his tug was not an Atom, but does bear some resemblance to one from the rear, from the side and front however, they are clearly very different vehicles. And yes, you can get a street legal Atom. $75k for a 0-60 of 2.8s car. please excuse any fan-boying I do in regards to this car. really want the V8 version to make a come back...
I always wanted a rotorway … bought an rv8 instead…still tempted to get the rotary
40-year-old Volkswagens are air-cooled as are the Porsches as well. Is this air cold or water cold?
It's quite counter intuitive that when unpowered and working as a wind turbine in freefall that the rotor produces a lot of lift so you can fly it. I guess it makes sense as each blade gliding down and forward like a plane wing.
Dan Frederiksen the rotor produces almost no lift while in autorotation (1500fpm at 70mph is a horrible glide ratio). The purpose of the negative pitch is to keep the rotors spinning, while the slowing of the rotors by increasing pitch near the bottom gives you the lift you need to not become a pile of burnt metal and flesh.
@@superskullmaster 7.6m/s drop may not be the greatest hover but it's vastly better than free fall. So I think you are wrong. The rotor tip speed is probably a good portion of the speed of sound so the effective glide ratio might be better than a cessna.
Dan Frederiksen interesting thought. Makes me wonder what the average rotor airspeed is since it's almost zero at the hub and very fast at the end.
Rotors are 25ft in diameter. 8.5 revs per second. Tip speed is around 460mph.
@@davidchow9528 fits well with my intuition. same for nose props. If we count that for glide ratio, it's better than 20:1 although in autorot it might be a bit slower.
I got excited watching this and my wife interrupts with "Kobe Bryant just died in a helicopter crash". They are just inherently far more dangerous than planes.
Pilot error
It’s not the choppers fault
It really depends on pilot skill and location. There are a lot of places where helicopters are safer
The lego city hands: that's where you're wrong
He mentioned that he is still training. Building and training at the same time.
I wouldn't want to live near his heliport for sure
@@agustinenzoa4447 Flight instructing is the safest flying there is, short of Part 121. You have a current, commercial pilot, who is well aware that the student will need help.
mark evans fronted the show, great guy, however, david and jonathon bull at southern helicopters actually led the build from start to completion, mark and"pete mate"made it entertaining and it was.truth is,500hrs build time,is way off actual.ive had my ancient exec 90 almost 4yrs and every resto, maintenance issue ends up with many hours, blood loss, aching muscles and lighter pockets.imagine trying to take apart a watch, thru the top of a goldfish bowl and you are close.very clever people at rotorway,Air crash investigation used to have 2 paramators to look for,Pilot error,or manufacturing fault,ok,amongst others, however, constructor error is the new kid on the block and i get it.so tempting to cut corners and at the same time"its your ass"when it goes wrong.I highly recommend a build,or resto project, but stay real.having said all this,i still love my rotorway.good luck out there.
...you use the last bit of energy in your rotor to cushion your crash.
Dave M someone who gets it.
How long ago did you film this? Because this helo has different avionics now and is for sale...
Different ship
@@davidchow9528 Wow, had me convinced! Make's me happy to hear that actually. Good luck with the training! To fly is human, to hover is divine!
Fathom Thanks! I just did 2 hours of hover today at the airport. It’s becoming second nature :). I can look around and take my time chilling out while the ship is stationary.
How much is it?
That squeaky mother luvin' tow vehicle could use a dab of grease.
It’s the same as gyrocopter, regard autorotation.
true, although a gyrocopter is much safer since you're already in constant autorotation so nothing changes, you just descend like normal. The tricky part about a helicopter is entering autorotation and maintaining it.
Well it looks like my build list just got longer...
Anything that sounds that bad just pulling out the garage seems little sketchy to me….lol
Your SECOND one can be built in 500 hrs. Unless you have worked in aircraft assembly . I Think most people will require 1000 hrs or better....... Took me a week to learn the blueprint labeling........
Now that more of the components are factory assembled ,tail boom, blades etc,it will greatly reduce assembly time....Tail boom kept me busy and we did send our blades to Homer Bell in Ohio because he had a lot of experience with assembly. He used to have an annual fly in th !!at was pretty spectacular
This guy built a helicopter but cannot lube up the steering on that ATV?
Hate helicopters. Rest easy Kobe! 😢💔
yea, no one dies in cars
Kobe Bryant and his daughter just died in a helicopter crash.... really sad!
It sure is.
That's pretty pricey you can get a 2001 r44 for about $3,000 more than that
fractal yeah but it won’t be new and it uses far less gas. Plus because it’s experimental you can do more of the work without an a&p.
@@superskullmaster the upside is it's a proven design with a proven engine, not to mention seats 4 people.
yea, .timed out' and waiting for a $50.000 rebuild
@@daleisatimpactms More like $125,000 rebuild.
Are you gonna ever fly the dam thing ?
yeah no fuck dip shit he posted it🤦♀️if you care so much about it to comment then keep up with him
He mean 480 hours = 20 days
Well I mean with 20 more hours is
480 + 20 hours = 500 hours = 20 days and 20 hours
20.20
Wait a minute
2020 😐 umm.
Built in hours ...crashed in seconds.
Rotorway, now Rotor X, have had a good safety record. The biggest problem is that the pilots have spent all of their spare time building the aircraft, instead of flying, so they are rusty.
A man has fallen into river
wha the fu-
LS swap it. @Bisforbuild
you can’t just LS what it. the LS is way to big and that little helicopter probably couldent handle it. it’s way more efficient with the engine it has right now.
Gavin long have you never watched the bisforbuild channel?
Adam From McCleary no but i will shortly. but the LS is to big for that little helicopters.
Adam From McCleary i watch a lot of there videos and there littlery just cars there’s a difference between a helicopter and a plane
Gavin long I still feel like they can make it work.
fuj

Piss on this metal old style ugly turd.
I'd buy a factory built carbon fiber turn-key Dynali H3 with a turbo rotax, $135,000
