I live in urban area of U.K , so only did a bit of rabbit snaring as a boy, good organic low fat meat , I find your vids fascinating you are a good teacher and presenter ,thanks for taking the time to make these informative films.
I dye and wax all in one step. Always bring trap up to temp in the water with the dye. The wax is simply melted and floats on top of the water. When trap is at temp just slowly bring it up through the top layer of melted wax. Of course there's speed dip that folks now use. I'm old school and do a lot of things the old traditional ways that I'd been taught. You're awesome brother! Keep the vids coming!
Thanks buddy! There's definitely more than one way to skin a cat, LOL! Thanks for joining in the fun! We'll be heading to Kansas soon and hopefully get lots of good action there to make a fresh new video!
When I was a kid I used boil oak bark to dye traps
Very good information! Gonna try trapping for the first time this year and need all the help I can get. Thanks for putting out videos !!
Thanks and good luck! Don’t get frustrated early ... you’re matching wits with some of nature’s best; that’s what makes it so fun!
@@StaggsintheWild thanks, I know they are very smart animals. I've been hunting them for three years and only got 1bobcat and 2 coyotes. Just enjoy being out in the woods and a challenge.
Great video, I learned a lot. Thank you sir!
Great video. I just set up a few mb-550 very similar to yours. Thank you again.
Dude... I randomly found your channel looking up saddle platforms, after I just found out about saddle hunting through Outdoors Allie’s channel. You got me so excited to get into it I already ordered my platform and I think I’m going with a TX5. Thank you for all your research, recommendations, and advice. I wanted to get into trapping as a kid, I got what I needed, went to a class, and a trappers convention once and never actually got into it, but you might have just inspired me again. I’m 26 from Appalachia, please keep the content coming and thanks again!
Awesome man!! You've found the perfect channel then if you love saddle hunting and trapping, LOL!! We got all our traps (well, SOME of them ...) out today and started getting ready to set our first farm at the end of this week! We'll have lots of new trapping vids coming, including an out-of-state trip to Kansas targeting coyotes... as well as a TON more saddle info... we've got about 12 videos on our dry board we need to shoot that we slowly keep checking off. :)
This is fascinating information . Thank you :-)
good teaching video 👍
Great Video!! Just now getting some traps in the ground here in Tennessee!!
Good luck! Keep us posted! Look all around the channel; we've got several other trapping vids and more on the way!

I’m looking for a better way to wax traps.. like the set up you have. What size and where did you get your cast iron pot? That double pot method is the way to go. Thanks for any info!!
@@ronaldswindell1525 All the links to everything is in the description... if you're watching UA-cam on your phone, go to the title screen and look to the far right; you'll see a "down" arrow -- click that, and the video description should pull up. If you have any problems with it, let me know.

Awesome!! Thank you sir!!

Also……. What do you attach to the retrieval boss cable loop to pull anchor from ground ? Does it require leverage or can one make a handheld hook and pull straight up ?
Thanks
Hey Greg. Thanks for a great video. Where can I buy the reusable anchors? I found some pre-built (with cables attached) at WCS but can't find just the anchors.

I have a bobcat on my land, where do i start? I dont want it to freeze in like you said in your bobcat video. What do I do? What trap do I buy?
If you’re worried about your traps freezing in, use the double long springs I show in the video ... they’re awesome. I use Sleepy Creeks and you can buy them from Southern Snare online.
Staggs in the Wild out of stock on southern snare....what number trap do you use? Any other brands? Help! Also, bait wise, what to use? How about an Augur?
@@drdwgmd14 The only traps I would have to go through Southern Snares to order would be the Sleepy Creeks I use for 'cat trapping (see "Catching Cats...") on this channel. Otherwise, all our canine traps are either KO Jrs which can be bought at nobslures.com, or fully modified Bridger #3s you can buy from Minnesota Trapline Products (minntrapprod.com).
I use several different lures... Steppenwolf, Gold Digger, Badlands Bob (that's a cat lure, but will work for canines too) ... Sterling Silver, Hellfire... all good lures. Order a small bag of sheep's wool to put the lure on and stuff down the hole when you order the lure... it's super cheap.
As far as an auger bit? Go to your local Harbor Freight or Menards and buy a 1" auger, or bigger if you'd like .... get too much bigger though and it takes one heckuva drill to be able to turn it in frozen dirt.
Staggs in the Wild the sleepy creeks are sold out on southern snare....so what should i do?
What do you do to the traps after u soak them in vinigar to get that vinigar odor off them?
Just spray them off really well. By the time you leave them outside to rust for a day or two, you can’t smell it any more.
@@StaggsintheWild thank you for the quick responce!!!
I heard the heat from boiling can and will weaken the springs.
Two thoughts: trappers have been “boiling” traps since traps have been around, and it is pretty much universally recognized as the preferred method to clean traps … and secondly, you don’t have to bring the water to a rolling boil; a good hard simmer will accomplish the same thing.

Im sorry, what are the names of the parts and swivels etc? I have no idea where to buy this stuff or even do a basic set for a bobcat. I know nothing and need yout help bad
It's all in the video buddy... That's why I make them, LOL
Yes, but what is the dog do? Still confused after 3rd time through
What is the stalker called and where can I get. Them please? Thanks!
They’re called finned super stakes with retrieval bosses and you can buy them from Minnesota Trapline Products ... we’ll have a new video dedicated to JUST them sometime in the next few weeks.
Also what is a county? Never heard of that. Thank you
States are made up of counties ...
Lmao, thats funny, i thought it was a trapping part lol
@@drdwgmd14 Just curious... where are you located? :)
Staggs in the Wild TN!
Sir I love your all trap

You listen too slow 😂😂
Tight chains buddy. If there’s anything you need clarification on, lemme know. We’ll have a bunch more trapping content up this winter - including an out-of-state trip to Kansas.
