Duaffy, this version of the Batman is inspired by the comics saga Year 2. It's basically the character still in the beginning of his career, that's why the cops are still suspicious of him.
If The Joker was a film about a broken man becoming Irredeemable, than The Batman is a film about a damaged man becoming a Force for Good! When Batman lead the people in water to safety, was Bruce first steps from being Vengeance to The Dark Knight. The whole cast did an amazing job.
to answer your question about "thumb-dive". Thumb-drive is the name for the small usb-stick used for storing things. Named as such since it is a hard-drive the size of a thumb.
I wouldnt call the dark knight trilogy accurate. They focused a lot on making it more realistic. Which, if you know the source material, is like trying to make Willy Wonka realistic. Or the marvel movies.
When the arena got flooded, all the people were in the water and the electrical grid would fall in and electrocute them... Batman risked his life to cut the grid from the power line and saved them. The significance of his opening a flare and guiding the people to safety showed his transformation from violent vigilante to a hero who saves lives...
in this movie the Riddler is inspired by the zodiac killer, a dangerous killer who attacked innocents during the 60's. his appearance is inspired by him (many said he used glasses over his mask)
This is Batman almost at the very beginning of being a crime fighter or superhero. Most times he is shown as being fully skilled and polished. Not here, he makes BIG MISTAKES. He is known to the police, but not yet trusted. We don't know what, but something good happened with Batman and Gordon. Gordon is not yet commissioner but they trust each other implicitly already. Wayne has not yet shifted his focus from vengeance to justice. This is closer to the origin stories presented in "Batman: Year One" and "Batman: Year Two".
This movie made such a brilliant use of lighting. Even though almost every scene was dark, I never lost track of the action like I sometimes did with the Nolan films. The hallway scene illuminated by gunfire was one of the only times I’ve seen that concept work.

This is a young Batman realizing that he can't just represent fear and vengence. At this early stage in his crime fighting career, everyone in Gotham was afraid of him...even the law-abiding citizens. At the end, he realized he needed to become a symbol of hope for the good people of Gotham. There are a few things I don't like about this movie, but what I really do appreciate about it is that we're seeing a young fumbling Batman who is still figuring out what his purpose is for the city.

Yeah, at that point, Batman doesn't even know what to say to that man. A hero would reassure him, but Batman isn't really a hero yet. So he just stares at him. Because he's not really out there to save the innocent yet, so much as he's out there to pulverize the guilty. Sorry to confuse, but even in the comic books there is no single origin to the Batman character. Several (wildly) different ones have been made over the 80+ years of his existence. As movies, Nolan's trilogy is excellent, but only focusses on Wayne's combat prowess and willpower. In the comics, Batman is also described as the peak of human physique thru training (minus drugs or steroidslike Capt. America), an inventor and most importantly, a detective. The only fairly constant thing is his parents were killed in front of him in the alley.
The Nolan films were many things...comic-accurate is not one of them. Joker was about the only character Nolan managed to get right. This movie, on the other hand, does a surprisingly good job at getting Year Two Batman right, which is why the police and citizens don't really know or trust this Batman...he's pure rage and brutality at this point, he hasn't transitioned into the Batman that you're familiar with yet. Alfred in this movie is played by Andy Serkis, not Sean Bean (Ned Stark)...understandable though, they do look and sound kind of similar, and Andy is a bloody chameleon (probably from all his time as a mo-cap actor for Gollum and Cesar). 20:30 Yes, that's a Corvette...like a '64 or '65, split window Corvette Stingray...this Bruce Wayne might be a recluse, but he's got really good taste in cars 43:25 a mix of adrenaline and epinephrine, yeah...to overcome the pain from the likely broken ribs and cracked sternum from tanking a couple 12-gauge rounds from about a meter away...his armor is amazing, but even it has limits. You can actually see where the chest of his armor is dented inwards in later scenes. 44:10 the electrical cable was very close to the water, and still 'live' (i.e. still had electric current going through it)....as the water levels rose, or the equipment hanging off that cable dragged it down further, eventually the cable would touch the water and electrocute everybody still in the water...Batman took the sacrifice hit of cutting it much higher up to prevent that from happening 44:20 I love this shot, it so perfectly captures the duality of Batman: the brutal, vengeful monster in the shadows for criminals, but the glimmer of hope in the darkness for the innocents of Gotham.
@Duaffy M&S I think this may be the best reaction you've ever done. You're confidence has clearly grown since your early videos. The production is better, as well. In addition, you're catching more things that some folks miss. Even your english has improved. I offer a virtual pat on the back. Keep up the good work.
Hola, Duaffy! Te escribo desde México. Cuando escuché “alada” no me pareció raro, porque he escuchado la palabra en frases de un estilo más literario o poético, pero en una conversación normal también diríamos “rata con alas”.
I know that The Batman (2022) is a serious movie, but if you look it in another perspective and not take it seriously, it becomes a comedy movie. An entire army of cops chasing Batman inside a police department is one the funniest thing I have ever seen in a Batman movie XD
The Url at the end of the movie, was a chat site, where you could talk to and ask the Riddler questions. It was operational when the movie first came out but was later changed to the GCPD sieged message after a couple of weeks.
1:59 you kill me with your own memes. Really rubbing that salt on the wound. I remember the pocket-sized QuickTime videos that took 5min to load a 30sec video.
I like how much you actually laughed at this movie. It's actually hilarious in some cases. Also I've never heard Alada in my dialect of Spanish at least
8:56. For the second answer, there are two answers. In the Animated Series episode "Almost Got Im", Two Face tied Batman to the coin and then sent the coin flipping. It was unsuccessful as Batman cut his ropes with a sharpened penny. In the comics, Coyne was known for stealing things of little value just to do it. He was also working for Twoface. Coyne found the giant coin at an auction for a few pennies since nobody wanted it. He placed penny ads to sell it, but it wouldn't sell. Bruce offered $1000 for it which went to Coyne. It was the most money he ever made being a gimmick villain, and it gave Batman a really prominent souvenir to display in the Batcave.
Duaffy , right around when the movie came out, the website was working, i didn't go there, but New Rockstars youtubers did and it was a whole thing with riddles and puzzles related to the cyphers and the greeting cards i think
I’m glad you liked this movie, I thought it was a really good batman movie where he actually feels like a detective. Keep up the great work. I hope you check out the dc movie universe soon
Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy was the best movie version of Batman as an action movie... Matt Reeve's 'The Batman' was closest to the comic book version of Batman... this movie does not depict the origin story. It depicts the early years of Batman... 2 years after he starts his war on crime in Gotham City, his only ally in the police force is Detective James Gordon... his only assistant is Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family's butler... and his arsenal for fighting crime is limited... Bruce Wayne still hasn't emerged as the head of Wayne Enterprises, which generates the money to truly fund his crime fighting enterprise as Batman. All that is still ahead of him... The movie shows such a contrast between what The Batman is doing as a vigilante of vengeance, and what the Riddler concocts as an act of vengeance on Gotham city. In the end, The Batman emerges as a hero...
The ending is beautiful for batman that he realized he needs to be more than vengeance. He need to be hope. Robert pattinson got alot of hate when he was casted but he was great as batman Also thanks for adding me in the video lol
An excelent film! Y se dice la rata con alas jajajaja, al menos en Ecuador se dice así. One of the best movies of 2022!! The cinematography is incredible and that car chase scene was mind-blowing! Love your reactions.
I'm from Argentina, I never ever heard the term rata alada to mention a pigeon. Rata alada is more likely to be a bat, rather than a pigeon. Pero tampoco decimos rata alada, mas bien rata con alas.
Duaffy, the music at the end of this video after you said bye was kind of creepy, i guess that fits with this movie, i don't know, did you have a different song at the end that you usually use? maybe i liked that one better, but can't remember what it sounds like?
Judging by how often it rains in this movie, I’m amazed anyone even noticed a difference when the sea walls came down. It seems they were more there to keep Gotham from flooding the river rather than the other way around.
45:54 I’m sure someone has already said this but before those GCPD thugs took the site down (jk) there was a deleted scene featuring more Joker. You can for sure find it on youtube now.
So you are spanish!!! I knew it! Maybe you said it before but i asked in one of your videos a long time ago because of the accent. Sabía que eras española, jajajajajaja ,que sepas que te vemos también desde tu propio país!
Bilingual here (English/Spanish), "thumb drive" o "flash drive" es lo que le llamamos a una memoria de USB en ingles. Batman solved the clue since there was a literal human thumb attached to the USB drive And no, as Mexicans we just say "rata con alas". I'm guessing "rata alada" is more traditional or simply just another way of saying it that is rarely used??
Is it more poetic? Like saying "winged rat" instead of "with wings"? I was thinking of the French cognates. While you'd recognize the word "ailé" written, because it sounds so similar to homonyms you'd speak "avec des ailes".
I would say the Christopher Nolan version of the _Batman_ saga does a better job of showing what this character would look like a little further along in his _character_ arc, once he has a _proper_ appreciation of the value of _Bruce Wayne._ Batman can only do what he does if he has a secret identity that _deflects_ suspicion. And that means that Batman and Bruce Wayne must _both_ be publicly known and have wildly different, incompatible personas. _Each_ has to _regularly_ do the kinds of things the general public would _never_ suspect the _other_ of doing.
9:49 "If you don't have the money to do it, and the resources, you _can't_ do anything at all." Oh. Yes. That, too. That's _another_ reason Batman needs Bruce Wayne. Batman provides the expenses. Therefore, Bruce Wayne _must_ provide the revenue.
11:51 See? Case in point. The Chris Nolan version of Batman would've dropped in on this club as Bruce Wayne. And that guy would've been famous and well known enough that these guys would've recognized him and said something along the lines of, "My goodness. Good evening, Mr. Wayne. Come right in." And he would've conducted his investigation _that_ way. This version, though, opts to show up as _Batman_ and _fight_ his way in.
This movie is what Batman (1989) could have been if it had competent writing, acting, directing, and action. It hits just the right balance of cartoony stylization and gritty noir “realism”. The 1989 movie was a campy, awkward mess, and the Nolan trilogy was a little too caught up in being down to earth. I think this new series could be the best one yet.
Very interesting. In 30 years I don't remember ever anyone accusing the 1989 Batman for having incompetent writing, acting, directing. A few things about the action, like the rigid suit, sure. Well, live and learn I guess.
@@Trusteft Well, it was very eclectic 😁 A groundbreaking film, but I think Cory is saying it takes the spirit of the 1989 Batman (and all the other homages lol) and gave it a huge amount of polish.
@@LeethLee1 This movie is great, and I can see how someone could find it even the best Batman movie, even though the reviews seem to not agree with that. But to claim the 1989 had incompetent writing, acting, directing...is bizarre, at least to me.
2:31 This scene begins to make me wonder. Is there this share of the population, in Gotham City, that just _doesn't_ know how to close their blinds? I mean _my_ neighbors might be terribly nosey, intrusive people who keep spyglasses like this pointed at _my_ windows all the time, but it doesn't matter, because I keep my blinds _closed._ 🤷 Let 'em spy.
13:48 This scene _feeds_ that impression. Look at this woman. This is a woman with business she doesn't want the world to _see._ Now, here it is after _dark._ Why are her blinds open? 🤷

The only fairly constant thing is his parents were killed in front of him in the alley.
Outside of Batman Begins, Nolan's characterization of Batman is really weak.
I haven't been here for a while, its good to see you all healed up.
20:30 Yes, that's a Corvette...like a '64 or '65, split window Corvette Stingray...this Bruce Wayne might be a recluse, but he's got really good taste in cars
43:25 a mix of adrenaline and epinephrine, yeah...to overcome the pain from the likely broken ribs and cracked sternum from tanking a couple 12-gauge rounds from about a meter away...his armor is amazing, but even it has limits. You can actually see where the chest of his armor is dented inwards in later scenes.
44:10 the electrical cable was very close to the water, and still 'live' (i.e. still had electric current going through it)....as the water levels rose, or the equipment hanging off that cable dragged it down further, eventually the cable would touch the water and electrocute everybody still in the water...Batman took the sacrifice hit of cutting it much higher up to prevent that from happening
44:20 I love this shot, it so perfectly captures the duality of Batman: the brutal, vengeful monster in the shadows for criminals, but the glimmer of hope in the darkness for the innocents of Gotham.
No matter how much this movie tries, it can never ruin Ave Maria for me :)
Fun fact: The bat-symbol from his chest is made with a gun. (The same one that killed his parents???)
Argentina here. Maybe some people say Rata Alada but I think it's not common saying 😕 Love your videos ☺👍💕
YAY YOU'RE FINALLY REACTING TO THIS!
The "adrenaline" def a setup for Bane venom imo
Duaffy , right around when the movie came out, the website was working, i didn't go there, but New Rockstars youtubers did and it was a whole thing with riddles and puzzles related to the cyphers and the greeting cards i think
Amé escucharte hablar en español jeje soy de Guatemala, acá tampoco usamos "Alada" a no ser que sea un texto muy poético
I’m glad you liked this movie, I thought it was a really good batman movie where he actually feels like a detective. Keep up the great work. I hope you check out the dc movie universe soon
I like the new look of the channel, is like having a book in my hands....🤟👍
THE BATMAN WAS AWESOME!
Cuidado con el sol Duaffy!
The ending is beautiful for batman that he realized he needs to be more than vengeance. He need to be hope. Robert pattinson got alot of hate when he was casted but he was great as batman
Also thanks for adding me in the video lol
TU PRONUNCIACIÓN ES PERFECTA, quedé IMPACTADO al escucharte hablar español
14:32 This scene makes it look like the GCPD does not know how to properly secure a _crime_ scene.
14:55 Why was this passport in the personal charge of the _Mayor_ instead of professionally locked up at the _Municipal_ Center?
The electrical line was gonna hit the water and would have fried everyone in the water so Batman cut it to save them.
Engineer Duaffy running off to build her own Batmobile
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER!
The old UTubey days of no commercials and unrestricted content that anyone can post. Way before they sold out to corporate media.
When that light hits the sky
Like a big pizza pie
It's a warning 🎶
An excelent film! Y se dice la rata con alas jajajaja, al menos en Ecuador se dice así.
One of the best movies of 2022!! The cinematography is incredible and that car chase scene was mind-blowing! Love your reactions.
I'm from Argentina, I never ever heard the term rata alada to mention a pigeon. Rata alada is more likely to be a bat, rather than a pigeon. Pero tampoco decimos rata alada, mas bien rata con alas.
3:05 You missed him.
Don't skip the DCEU movies, please.
dceu sucks, standalones like joker n batman r better. ( snyder's dceu was better)
@@salmaroni4134 That's the one I'm asking for
12:18 ...."Guardians of a club?"..... You mean "Staff?"....
yes, sorry 😳
Duaffy: I think you were looking for "bouncers". I think they call them "gorilas" in Spain, and we call them "patovicas" in Argentina.
@@LinksPB En España, al "Gorila" también se le llama portero.....
Colin Ferrel deserves Oscar
In Mexico we would also say rata con alas
This woman just loves the sound of her own voice huh 😂
hi duaffy , with your humor you might like the orig (1968) batman movie , its ridiculous , you wont be able to stop laughing
20:33 😆😆😆
_Harry Potter and the_ Goblet _of Fire,_ Duaffy. _Goblet._
best Batman by far
I agree.
THERE WILL BE A SEQUEL TO THIS!
Man of Steel next please
Duaffy, the music at the end of this video after you said bye was kind of creepy, i guess that fits with this movie, i don't know, did you have a different song at the end that you usually use? maybe i liked that one better, but can't remember what it sounds like?
Judging by how often it rains in this movie, I’m amazed anyone even noticed a difference when the sea walls came down. It seems they were more there to keep Gotham from flooding the river rather than the other way around.
Nolan's Batman is accurate with respect to a certain writer and artist. Bale added the voice and the braun/size.
Batman solved the clue since there was a literal human thumb attached to the USB drive
And no, as Mexicans we just say "rata con alas".
9:49 "If you don't have the money to do it, and the resources, you _can't_ do anything at all."
Oh. Yes.
@@lazyperfectionist1 he literally only did that once, the second time he went as Bruce and the third he just snuck in….
Nunca escuché 'Rata alada' excepto en esta película, al menos aquí en uruguay. Now let's back to english, never heard of "Rata Alada" here in uruguay.
27:24 Convenient ramp.
