Pete Doherty is seriously underrated as an insightful mind/intellectual.
@Mr Jayboo where did they work together, and how was he a bellend?
Mr Jayboo yea explain
@Mr Jayboo how was he a slimy weasel, you've provided a very vague explanation.
Intellectual, are you serious? He takes or did take drugs. Not very clever maybe so I can't agree with that comment to be fair.
@@ChrisW444 You do realise some of the most intellectual people of all time were heavy drug users i.e. charles dickens, van gogh, churchill etc.
One of the most talented, progressive and consistent musicians of recent times. The way the UK media has constantly rushed to attack and ruin his name is fuckin awful! The amount of people that instantly dismiss his material really is a waste, because near on everything his made; Libertines, Babyshambles, his solo albums and The puta madres have been brillant, and so progressive!! Big love to the man one of many few doing it well
And his lyrics I mean poems
123 45 yes, yes, he plays no part in his own demise, poor dear...
Progressive? How old are you?
Carlie Smith celebs, hate that word. They are humans, why you expect them to be different.
Carlie Smith never ASSUME.
The main questions Peter riffs on
00:50 If a Libertine is an unrepressed man, how would you describe a "Puta Madres"?
02:11 How would you describe the character and energy of this band?
04:24 You could call [Puta Madres] a family of orphans then? (Pete talks about origins of the band with Rafa)
07:07 The album was recorded live over four days in France - was that serene as it sounds?
08:37 Do you feel this is the most European record you've made?
11:04 Why did you chose [to cover Ride into the Sun by Velvet Underground and Don't Look back in Anger by Oasis)
12:14 How has your relationship with the idea of 'Albion' changed, in this post-Brexit environment where similar imagery has been co-opted by Brexit and the far right..?
15:42 What is life like for 40-year old Pete Doherty?
17:58 Do you still feel the weight of it, when people come at you with old headlines?
19:26 Have you made peace it, if they throw something at you about prison, or smack or something about Mark Blanco?
23:22 You mentioned an interest in drug culture. What do you make of the romance attached to opiates and xanax for a lot of young musicians now?
25:15 Having been through every stage of addiction, and having lost mates to it. How do you feel about walking the tight rope between romanticising it and having a responsibility to say...?
27:53 Do you feel free by the sea, living in Margate?
29:32 How much is a hat these days? - I've never bought a hat
32:30 When will the hotel doors be open?
37:08 Gary (Powell) was telling NME that he's going to be quite instrumental in the new Libertines album, how is that coming together?
38:14 Gary (Powell) said 'Anthems for Doomed Youth' was not as special as the first two albums. Do you feel that?
Thank You!!!

Thank you

He subscribes to Umberto Eco's view....
@Anthony Nesbitt no, however, definitely knows about him being a big influence!
And that’s always a winning combination

Such a good (40 year old)kid. Could listen to his musings / ramblings all day. A special soul

I'd like to see a conversation between Peter Doherty and Russell Brand
Was just thinking yesterday that I would love to see him on Russell's podcast. Let's go blow up his comments requesting it!!
Russell does it all from London so it could happen.
I told Katia that on Facebook
I think Russell would love on him like a puppy dog.
Fuck no I’ll kill myself
I spent around 4 hour with him and Kate Moss at the Isle of Wight festival in 2005 back stage in the madina key bar and he was one of the nicest guy I’ve ever met, they were both really cool people. Hope he’s round for a long time to come✌️
I doubt he will be look at him
Stewi Bigbang Er, we know mate. you tell us this on every Pete Doherty youtube video.Lol.
@@neversellout1190 To be fair he's looked like that for the last 10 years!
Dude it’s 2019... time to move on, people can change in 14 years. Keep moving forward.
Lucky u man... Id love 2 meet him... Genuinely.
Think he'd b sound as u say.
I feel for you Peter. As a recovering alcoholic/addict I know it's incredibly tough. You are such a talent. I really hope you make it.
Peter definitely carried the momentum of interview there. Too many artists these days think they are better than the conversation. Peter is soft spoken, informative and humble. Good lad!
yeah proper decent lad eh?
@@iang.howarth219 😆
Heroin tends to make you calm and soft spoken. Saying this from experience…
What a great unrushed, no bullshit Interview. Great job NME & Pete. One of Pete's best interviews in recent memory. Im really glad that he's opening up so much in his later years and so happy that Petes still around with us and continues to make such beautiful music on his own terms. Was a bit heartbreaking though both this and the Margate interview a few weeks back, hearing him speak on no wanting to die anymore, and realizing that people do care about him, more than he and many addicts may think. Myself also being an opiate addict of over 11 years, and in daily op treatment for it still till this day, I can relate to this man on many levels, both his music but also his pain. It's nice hearing him finally realizing that life is worth living, it's great to see that we are both in a better place now in our lives, ahh to get abit older, gives me hope for a brighter future though. Can't wait for the new album Peter, been waiting on this band for some years now and I am about to give it a proper listen through now, I am sure it will be another masterpiece!!
Deep comment... glad you're being helped and still with us, as well as Pete is!
Thank you very much for the support, it's good to still be here to enjoy it!!!
Although in a recent interview he did admit he's still a heroin & crack user, which is sad....
I love Peter Doherty because he don’t care about everybody and he as the balls to say it! His always the same! Take it or leave it. So brave. Don’t change lovely ❤️
He seems so authentic and down to earth. Love to have a drink and conversation with him. Top bloke
Breianna Orozco really? Wow. I wonder how his kids are doing. Good bloke. Love to have a drink with him?
Once met him & was utterly surprised to have a highly intelligent and very sensitive / empathic vis-a-vis to me, maybe flying a bit high that night, but nevertheless an extreme interesting interlocutor. Was a nice talk & good whiskey that night, on the other side, maybe a bit too much of everything ;)
Pete’s new album is like looking into the soul of this interesting human being - a unique talent me thinks! Stay around Pete, don’t fade away!
I’m loving the avant-garde , Amish heroine user look
holy fuck you nailed it.
Well, the Amish are partial to... Horse. Baddoooommmm tsssssss.
stop glorifying heroin or that "look"
@Oisín O'Sullivan heroin kills you, hash doesn't
@@sodapop83 Ohh look another fucking stoner pleb who thinks cannabis is teh best drug ever, Believe it or not, not all heroin users are fuck ups who od.
British media destroyed him but they were wrong! What a great bloke, interesting, articulate,& has a beautiful soul....
Fascinating interview, such a rare event and so refreshing to see a celebrity who is so unpretentiously honest. Good move to Kent Pete! The new band is brilliant. Keep your creative energies flowing. Not controlled my the megga' music industry in any way….what a true free spirit….thanks be to people like you…..for such brilliant expressive music and lyrics. A true insight into life and the world unwrapped. Muchas gracias.
one of my favorite songwriters of all time almost like poetry very happy pete is still with us like keith richards i hope he continues to perform forever.
Never changes still got the old skool charm.
his face has half melted off from the drugs, so charming
meth aint charming
@@mskylar3724 meth has never been Pete's thing, he has always been able to afford as much cocaine as he can smoke or inject, which along with heroin, accounts for most of his drug use. I'm sure he's tried it, like everything else, but it's never been a habit he's been seen to have.
i really missed Pete, so glad he's around and working!
lol I just watched this on the site like 10 mins ago. what a great, chilled out interview.
One of the most underrated musician in england. As of course someone who is " famous". However is not him to criticize himself but the media; and the media hasn't given the credits he deserves as an artist.
Perhaps a very naiive comment from me, but its kind of weird watching a video of a genius who is still alive and writing music.
Pete is such a poet with his words, both lyricaly and expression.
Always liked that about him.
And hes just a soft spoken sweetie really
Such a beautiful man. So deep, dark and intriguing. Without doubt one of the best British artists to have lived. Strange listening to stories from a personal friend who know him deeply... almost subliminal.
He is so immensely talented and a poet like few others. 💪🏼
Absolutely, guy is a genius, he’s up there with Dylan, Cohen and Lennon as one of the greatest songwriters of all time.❤
The world is a better place for Pete Doherty and a worse place for the Daily Mail. Please do this again NME on his 60th!
Every few min I notice a huge smile across my face listening to Pete talk.
I can't believe he's still alive.
hahaha I know!
no one can
DeeMor501 he’s smoked more brown than a motherfuk
It’s a miracle 😂
Barely
That's really dope he doesn't care about making money with the Puta Madre projects. I know he obviously has money now but still, rich people and famous people tend to think of success as being lineal, money, power, status. He is so different. Can genuinely see he loves music
You think he's rich, do you ?.. 🤣
@@vanman757 they got a shit load of money to play reading a few years ago. Probably not rich but certainly better off than a twat like you
@@greatwhite3676 😔😂😂😂😂😂
It's funny how obsessed everyone is with his addictions. It's his way of dealing with the dark. Simple as. Focus on the music. And let him live his life
Good point. I feel drugs impaired him. In a way. The balance was off.
totally agree mate don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with addiction if he was an alky no one would mention drink, the press are the worse leave the guy alone & listen to the music, if you don't like the music don't watch interviews with pete.
People get high to balance out the low. Always have, always will but, to deal with and to run away from are two different things. Problems aren't dealt with when you're bending spoons like uri geller
Well, it's a sad thing to see someone talented being destroyed by his demons like that.
@@Horsemanray so accurate... like the totally irrelevant reference he made to opium fields? just desperate to ram it down your neck LOOK EVERYONE I'VE HAD WORKING CLASS EXPERIENCES WITH DRUGS... erm join the gang?
who are we to judge? love you pete. thanks for the amazing music. 🖤
Love my pete. One of the truest artists there is.
What's the definition of a "true artist"? Some heroin addict who hasn't produced any music of worth in years?
i really dont want you to die either pete! but i know how fuckn hard the struggle is, its a lifetime of temptation and will power. please get straight, you are the best songwriter of your generation and such a kind soul.
i've never heard him glorify drugs so much in an interview though, it doesnt sound like he ever wants to get clean
Will power? I have all the will power in the world but that's nothing to do with my illness
I really hope he could stop glorifying the drugs and try to make some efforts for his own sake, however hard it is. He deserves better. He is such an incredible man so he deserves all the happiness, peace and respect in this world, but with drugs he won't reach them.
love Doherty... a true modern day philosopher
I met him a couple of years ago and he couldn’t of been nicer, a true poet.
wish you the best mate, rockin the tweed!
"I don't get intimate with my dogs, you understand, I use toilet paper like any normal person" - hahaha!!
One of the best love artists I’ve ever seen sounds better than the studio recordings
He smells and sounds like a wet dog .....met him in Carlisle once....he stunk
a true great british artist
There’s more talent in my cats litter tray
An absolutely one of a kind talent
i think hes got better with age and maturity
Who else is here in 2021 and can't believe he's still alive, and also had a dinner and bath
He’s so classy I just love him. Something about him is so warming and down to earth ❤️
😆🤣 Did you really just state that, in all seriousness ?..
classy? with those filthy fingers and greasy hair?
@@mattiemclean9882 Yeah & green teeth 😆🤣
He is classy
It wasn’t very classy when he ran away from that poor guy who ‘fell’ from that balcony

could listen to him talk forever.
He's proepr down to earth, what a geezer, a respectable one too x
Oh yeah putting that shit in your veins is respectable

What on earth does that have to do with someone's attitude and personality? Get over it and grow up.

Absolutely love this man. So talented.

Top stuff, could listen to this all evening
@Gerry Freeman obviously in a time when people recognized true personality and talent
@Gerry Freeman curt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix's, Amy Winehouse, ray Charles, David Bowie, Elton John and all the others, ok either your baiting or just a complete fucking idiot
The ability of Pete Doherty to look like he has just been exhumed is astounding
I find him really engaging to listen to,
Hes my cousin, always great fun at parties and very smart , thank God hes eased up on the drugs , I got him that hat for his birthday , his lucky hat he says👍🏻
@OASISBROTHER....thank you.
So what ? You can go in any pub across the world and people are doing drugs.
@@jeromealexandre4162 too true.....spent many a night on the skag down in The Woolpack. Paddy is a right sesh head.
I’m not sure how old you are but as a 44yr old I can assure you he doesn’t look 60yrs old. He looks like a 40 yr old with grey streaks. That happens to many of us at that age silly.
@Vili Taskinen ignorance is bliss... . Wtf have you done compared to PD. Fuck all ya muppet!
Pete possesses such an honest vulnerability. Such a genuine human being, unapologetically himself, always! We could learn a lot from him.
awkwardly holding his book looking at pete moving around 24/7 and talkin like keith richards haha
Nice watching Pete being myself alive and being on methadone program. Can sympathize. You know.
I love this man, but I find it confusing to watch this after watching the channel 4 interview a couple of weeks ago.
On drugs vs not on drugs i assume😂
Talented and interesting man at so many levels. Cool, cool dude.
He honestly fascinates me
I was enthralled by this. Could listen to him talking all day.
Upset to hear there won’t be any Babyshambles gigs in the near future.
Karl Mackenzie me too, they were some of the best gigs I’ve been at. He was usually a couple of hours late but always well worth the wait.
“All sorts of things go on there, we got ghosts, underground tunnels, metal fire escapes, planning permission. All sorts of strange things.” Hahahahahhahahaha
Such a genuine, down to earth musician, love you pete
Despite some of his ways. What a great poet, songwriter, guitarist and accepting person pete is🎸👍
atleast we know he’s nipping it in the bud now
On form. 👍 Peter. He has not lost his faith in love and music.
So the end will be long 😁
Brilliant interview
i love it when Pete is funny in a foreign language
This is like Richard Madeley interviewing Caravaggio.
😆😆
Whose idea was it to sit on flight cases?
SOOOO contrived and gave me backache just watching this!
"We've got ghosts." - "Mh hm."
Always takes me a minute to get attuned to Peter's accent, but after that it's always fascinating to listen to him. Very thoughtful and sincere.
Have you ever heard of a follow up question?
Good interview, Peter his usual charismatic, softly spoken, kinda shambolic self.
He's so likeable tho... So genuinely honest & cool.
So wot he likes a bit a crack & Skag, he seems happy enough to me.
Don't we all?
He’s cleaned up now
I would consider my English quite goot, but not good enough to understand Peter 100% at some times. Whatever, his music is top-noch with a large playlist of tunes. God bless!
To all of you people that bullying a tremendous artist like Peter by judging him because of his past, hopefully, one day, you’ll understand that he’s been putting some amazing melodies on his words of expression that describes his life from the past, present and future. You can look at him and see that his life has’nt been uncomplicated. But maybe you trolls’s life is?😉
Oh poor pete poor pete pour him another one, no one is bullying him you stupid prick people are allowed to criticize him you know.
37:47 That was "Now That's What I Call Music" number 11. Came out in 1988. There's indeed Eddie Cochran, Pet Shop Boys but not Jive Bunny which appeared later I think.
"The monkey can wait ... but then it comes back" - The man with the golden arm
He's itching toward the end go bless im - sad but also blessed
Great interview/ Truth telling monologues by Pete. Hees very educated. He uses big words.
great to see we both have the same belief that music in the UK is about to get good again
It’s mad to think Pete was once an icon for teenagers in Britain , then you get older and realise he has major issues and is a bit of a tragic character.
He’s a gentleman and very talented all the same 🇬🇧
The Daily Mail reporter! LOL 23.25 "Maybe i am exposing him right now" Hilarious stuff!
can't pronounce "doherty" or "puta madres" before interviewing Pete Doherty about his band the Puta Madres.
Kampango The Band the Doherty thing was annoying the hell out of me
He pronounced it the exact way Pete himself pronounces it. I suspect you're just one of these people who think his name is Pete Docherty, which is pronounced dock-er-ty. It's not, it's Pete Doherty, which is pronounced dough-er-ty. Here's Pete saying exactly how it's pronounced himself:
www.radiox.co.uk/artists/libertines/video-pete-doherty-pronounce-name/
Weird though that Pete himself pronounces it Dockerty at 36:13
Wonderful interview. Thanks so much
Interesting how the absolutely obvious statement „I don’t wanna die“ in the context of Pete Doherty can become a teasing title for a video
Subtitles for this be like: 500 Randall you're watching anime and we're here with Pete 30
Lovely stuff from NME
When did NME become buzzfeed
When people stopped buying it.
Fast Show: “I was very, very drunk at the time”
Yes ... ! ha ha.
Ha ha. You've got him bang to rights.
This is such an entertaining interview
Thanks Peter! Thanks NME! What a great chat
Is very original , and that's the key in music business. 👌
I loved his music, I bought his new album of deluxe version and some other stuffs from his website. I love him though I don't know him personally, I just feel he is a gentle soul. But now I even doubt if this is right for me to buy all these things, will the money go to the dealers? I really don't know. Roger Sargent once said no one is an innocent bystander in Pete's fall, all the people who went to his concert during the dark days( like, 2006) were in fact the ones who offered him money to buy drugs and after that, the ones made fun out of his behaviors. I wish nothing but the best for him. I'm afraid that we are now heading back into the dark days...
I hope he could be, as himself said in this interview, be free without drugs. Damn, definitely I'll continue to buy the albums. But...at least hopefully the public won't treat him the same way as that in the last time.
Bugsy Malone has let himself go.
Nah he just dropped M.E.N. 2 on UA-cam
