- The Libertines' Carl Barat and Pete Doherty sat down with NME in London to talk about 'All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade' - an album inspired by Margate, war, the refugee crisis, dead birds, and Queen Elizabeth - who'd play who in a biopic, and becoming the band they were always meant to be

So happy to see Pete continuing with his sobriety, back to his charming self and hopefully here for a very long time to come.
I'm so unbelievably happy to see Pete doing all this. I feared the worst back in the day, and this feels like we're living in the parallel universe where we get to see what he would have produced had he lived happily on. Amazing.
Who killed Mark Blanco?
@sratus Your Mum sat on his face and smothered him.
@@paddymuppyuncalled for comment
I get what you're saying
Spot on, Red Ballon.
Pete is not fat, he is just so full of good lyrics and rhymes
I'm not fat, I'm B O D Y P O S I T I V E (reaches for another pastry)
Cuddly
Fater Pete= more Pete. Which is good.
He’s heavier but that means he’s clean , so long live older , wiser , chubbier Pete .
Stop saying the same thing everywhere! He's not that fat btw, he was overly skinny though. He looks good.
What world is this? The one where life prevails. So fkn happy to see these gorgeous fellas doing what they do best ❤️❤️❤️🌹💎
When you see Pete looking healthy, coherent & clean it makes you desperately wish Amy Winehouse could of made it out of her addiction & troubles.
She would be making some phenomenal music now & one of the biggest stars…sadly missed ✌🏾
you are only speculating thatAmy would have made phenomenal music. She could have made rubbish the same as anybody else.
I was just thinking that
Crazy how well Pete looks after all them years of abuse fairplay to him
Theres so much life in Pete's face. Makes me happy to see him like this.
@@1.Na3 What a downer you are. Its not clear to me that hes drinking alcohol. I thought he was drinking coca colas to be honest with you. Also, he doesnt look drunk at all. I think youre just trying to find something to cry about.
As someone who's somehow managed to reach the age of 43, I love how they've stayed true to the timeline. Still being alive is the cherry on top of that, but just being yourself, being comfortable inside your own skin, chasing what you love, appreciating people and experiences rather than things, are some of the keys to being real ones.
I was never a superfan (never seen 'em live) but I lived in London through the 2000s and tried getting a band and some music going (never got anywhere) and I see a bit of them in me, or me in them. It's also heartwarming to see a love for British culture without it having to warp into nationalism and Brexit-demanding jingoism.
Pete is beautiful inside and out - So happy to have him in this world, what a wonderful soul he has. ❤
The good ship Albion has hoisted it's Sails once again. Long live The Libertines 🇬🇧
What's with the trashy surrender monkey flag emoji ?
The Albion sails on course😎
Landed ashore the Margate Sands of Albion... The Waste Land
Albino is being destroyed and its people genocided wakey wakey.
Mmo players I see :)
Pete is unrecognisable! God bless him and how he has seemingly conquered his demons! I’m on the same journey so great to see him doing so well. ❤
Well he clearly isn’t it’s very easy to recognise him
Well done
@@bjpgm1233do people like you just look through every comment online to correct people on tiny little things? Sad act
He's easy to recognise once you take on board the blatant fact that he's doubled (atleast !) in size and has become a grey haired man who no longer has anything youthful looking about him (but I'm probably just not close enough).
Good luck to him and his old mate...fair play.
Tick tock neglects no man.
Strange days for sure and God's definitely watching...... and waiting.
PEACE.
Same jouney here. Good luck to you!
Pete looks so much better these days and it’s nice to see him coherent and clear. I’m so glad he pulled through, he looks much healthier and his hands aren’t black from crack pipes anymore.
his teeth are whiter too i’m sure
He was necking the Vodka and cokes
Your lying
@@paulmoores7510 He still drinks alcohol.
@@paddymuppy He had two drinks calm down
Pete has always been a genius, I love the way he writes songs, most of all his melodies, his lyrics, guitar playing and his beautiful voice. Real cradle to the grave artist and the best one to emerge from the U.K since Lennon. He is a poet, his last album with Frederic Ló was excellent.
It was x
I agree with what you are saying… Peter and Carl are incredible artists, feel sorry for Carl as he doesn’t seem to get as much credit, too many people just seem to praise Peter.
The Frederic Lo album is absolutely something else! 👏🤩
@@marilenaseverino3073 Yeah I know, Carl is great in the Libertines, it’s just that Pete has done a lot more work that I’ve heard and loved without Carl too such as with Babyshambles, his solo work and collaborations and the Puta Madres 🎶
Genius lol good one.
@@progressivedemagogue8480 He is one, how many great songs have you written?
I know how hard it is to get to that point with Pete. I done the same thing the weight is a clear sign he’s recovering well. Let him recover then deal with weight issues you can’t expect everything at once’s the guy is learning how to live without drugs. The main thing is he is clean his weight issues are the last thing he is concerned with. Not many addicts get to this point so sit back and enjoy it. Recovery is slow let the man learn who he is again.
So happy to see Pete and Carl together and Pete looking so well. A great band who never achieved their potential because of the drugs ~ hopefully there's lots more to come
For everyone saying Pete looks shit, you don't understand what recovery from hard drugs like heroin looks like. The fact he's got some meat on his bones at last is a brilliant sign
This!! I'm just glad he's still with us. This feels like bonus time. Anything after those hellish days is a bonus for both Pete and us as an audience. Glad to see he's still able to tap into his creativity without the help of heroin these days.
I challenge anyone to do half what he was doing and actually survive. It really fucks me off how people slate his appearance because they are so ignorant they don't know how hard it is to come off of those type of drugs and that afterwards, your habit might be food related, which is a lot better than class As
Love the band...Gary Powell on drums is genius genius genius...what a talent
Agreed. #artcomesfirst
"Someone who considers himself a songwriter". Hes one of the best Britains produced!
I agree..up there with morrissey no problem.
He is a runt
Easy
Clever boy
Thanks for uploading the full interview ❤
Great to see them on such good form. great interview too!
Poetic and great chat. Lovely boys finding their way once again. Routing fully for this talented pair ❤
Sooooo excited for next album also love the venue thanks for the gig had so much fun what a great place #lovesmargate
God bless the Libertines!
Forever cool because of all those beautiful songs. Thanks lads
Fantastic news to have The Libertines back, Run Run Run is a brilliant return with a more polished sound but same energy. Carl & Pete are a great creative partnership. So excited for new album 👌
Love this Band, love this Track!
Love to see them back 🥁🎸
[Love the constant eye contact between Bilo and Biggles.]
Carl Barat looks like he’s aged, like, a day since The Libertines’ heyday.
Up The libertines 🇬🇧
Great interview - so happy to see the guys do so good - happy for Pete especially!
Aside from the fact that Pete now looks and sounds like Paul Merton and Phil Taylor had a love child, I am glad to see him still doing well in life and I can't wait to hear the new album!
This is so great
Would much rather see Pete with meat on the bones than being stick thin and on the drugs. He says he has been clean from drugs since December 2019 and I hope he stays that way as he is much happier and healthier now and it’s always great to see someone get over their addictions and demons.
Great to see them so relaxed & together plus Pete doing so well with his recovery. So looking forward to the new album!
I can't begin to tell you how intelligent Pete and Carl are. Properly educated lads. The way they talk is sublime. Almost like there taking the last hurdle on a masters degree. It's lovely to see. 😊😊😊
🔥Looking and sounding good. Hopeful for a 🇺🇸 tour come on.
They are getting old!! What a good thing to see. They are more beautiful than ever. Love you.😊
That was good.
What a charming pair of fellows!
The lads are back. 👍🏼🇬🇧👍🏼🇬🇧
Love them so much
Its lovely to see them so down to earth and listen to their landscape of their language. Looking forward to this album
"landscape of their language", I like this, and think I know exactly what you mean.

Love the new stuff awesome guys
The boys are back. Got my Margate tickets

Pete’s a gem!! Glad they’re back and seem
happy enough
@@daviddimbleby6725 You might want to choose better exemplars of goodness than Mother Teresa. As the writer Christopher Hitchen's rightfully stated and wrote about, she was, “a fanatic, a fundamentalist, and a fraud". A paragon of virtue she was not. Terrible example.

so happy to see the libertines playing again
I wish it were coming out sooner :() Glad they are still going strong
Love seeing Mr Peter Doherty…..also Carl Barat xxx
Good to see pete more chilled , I do like run run run, different but I hope they can get a few tunes together 🎉
2 months on im still addicted to their wonderful album 'All Quiet.....'
its good that these guys are back together
They’ve been back together for ages now
Night of the Hunter , great Movie and wonderful song. So glad the lads are getting on and out there playing.
Wot a duet man always bn the same lol love it!
Love these 2 ❤
They all had their 25:44 own bus and I had a minivan cos the company didn’t trust me with a bus - Pete really is a good bloke unbothered with all the fuss.
Amazing album from an outstanding English band.....cant wait to see you guys in Bristol and Bournemouth....LONG LIVE THE LIBERTINES!!!!!
Back in the day people would insult Pete, tell me he's gonna die, tell me he's no good ... I would just smile and say, you're wrong and you'll see. He's a beautiful soul and needed time to adjust to this fckin harsh world we live in. Now all they've got is he looks different ... No, he looks happy. This is a guy who's winning at life. Time for the naysayers to do one.
The album is a masterpiece I love every song. I bought the cd to play in the car and can't see myself taking it off anytime soon
If anyone hasn't read Peter's "autobiography" "A Likely Lad"...100% recommended it!
You might not learn a lot, bit it will give you a whole new perspective on their/his music!
Does he mention Mark Blanco's death at all?
@@sratus Briefly towards the end
❤ Love to see this
Can not be happier seeing The Libertines back. They never put out anything but amazing records. One of the best bands of the last 20 years.
Legends of the game but I don't know about the pimpin' jacket Carl! But can't wait to hear the new album 🎵🎶📢
Petes back...........cannot wait to see you in Derby...❤️❤️
LIBS FOREVER, looking forward to this album, lead single is quality
I love them ❤
Seen Pete few months ago literally at the top of my street he played acoustic show at a bar in Anfield. He was brilliant as good as he ever was. Admire him its not easy when youve done something your whole life but pretty much always done it while chemically enhanced so to speak. Many before him thought that was the only way you could get the best from your art. Obviously thats not true just glad he got to find that out for himself in this realm. ❤
As a recovering addict pete isa great example. Brilliant and charming guy that now can live the way he deserve. God bless pete and his beatiful family
Great to see the boys back 💙🏴💯
It's nice to see a sober Pete Doherty exhibiting the verbal prowess that I always knew he had.
Quick take on the single from a Yank? You ask?
Perfect intro into the current mood in Albion🎉
It feels very familiar yet new and hopeful in its best moments.
Layers of lush guitars, relentless and driven rhythm section.
It’s classic Libs with a grey hair or two.
Still full of gnarl and relevant with two fingers in the air !
The end.

Pete looks like a professional darts player
I was going to say 1970s adult film producer. The mustache gives him the vibe
😂❤
What a lovely guy pete is
Libertines are the last true rock and roll band....up there with the clash and buzzcocks. I think Libertines have just begun myself. I think we are going to see a growing band. The last libertines is one of their creative eras.
Pete looks like Renato from Renée & Renato 'Save your Love' song back in the 80's 🧔 😂
Keep up the positive vibes lads 👍
See you around Margate 🎸
Carl sipping from that tiny cup!
It’s an espresso 🤡
Up the bracket ❤
Hell yeah anytime girl
He's still an absolute genius in my book and the rest of the band True Brits 🇬🇧
Pete❤
This is the answer to a song called What became of the likely lads)
Good to hear the boys back to their old poetic, jovial selves. Deep thoughts and piss taking; it’s the Albion way
He finally got his shit together. About time. I'm really happy for Peter.
I always liked Pete but I never knew too much about Carl. obviously I've heard and seen many interviews but whether it was my own fog ,or media fog, it was always about Pete but now I know abit more about Carl I not only like these two ,I bloody love them both... I'm sure I do
Ps... As far back as I can remember,I've always wanted a dead parrot 🙏
I now have a metaphorical dead parrot ... Cheers me dears
Yeah it's amazing to see Peter married with a baby n his dogs ,n doing lots of work new libs album his wife's documentary on him ,the 2003-2009 peter especially looked like dying
Carl- The Mark Owen of the indie world.
Pete packed it on
Run Run Run is very clearly a Carl Barat song on listening. Looking forward to the rest of the record, with more collaboration in the writing.
The reference to rapping is a funny one. Clearly a joke but back in the day Pete’s cover of Wolfman’s Siberian Fur was really excellent and there was definitely a rap vibe to that record.
Two fellas I love to have a sit down with over a massive Margate fry up.
Decent Partridge reference in there for the fans.
Yesss
Imagine liam and Noel being interviewed together like this 😮 libertines are legendary
which band does he mention at 2:58? i cant understand it:)
The Coral and James Skelly

When did Pete Doherty the waif like stray become his hero Tony Hancock? WTF!!!

What band/album is Pete talking about at 3:06
The Coral

Answer for Mark Blanco Pete.
NME Magazine cool list 2004 edition was predicted Libertines reunion when Peter and Carl was on a cold war at early Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things era with put edit photo of old Peter and old Carl and guess what this Carl are the similar Carl at that edit photo
Pete looks like Paul Merton now lol
