In this video, we follow Laure, a lovely French lady who's been living in Korea for a while to pursue her dream of becoming a professional Pansori performer. She sacrificed her stable job in France to move to a foreign land to start a new life. Will she be able to make her dream come true?

You’re right though about the sugarcoating and I don’t know if the cultures are always portrayed well. I feel like sometimes they act as if Korean culture is modern and superior, like when it comes to sexism (women doing everything for the man)
      they act surprised when They hear about it in other cultures but I know and read multiple times that Korea is pretty conservative and does the same practices. Even when compared to other cultures where sexism is frequent (Liberian and Indian culture) Korea is similar but they act as if it’s surprising.
      They also downplay other issues basically most things that are negative like racism, xenophobia, fatphobia, and sexism. However that’s probably because it’s a family show but they are important to address to some degree

    • @ihatewinia
      @ihatewinia 3 роки тому +54

      @@namedrop721 It’s a very ambiguous word and even Koreans find it hard to explain the exact meaning. For me, “han” is a painful memory and feeling. It’s a knotted emotional bitterness, regret, resentment, etc. It can be used in so many contexts. For example, if you loved someone and they suddenly moved away or got married and you didn’t tell them about your feelings, you would have that feeling of “han” knotted in the deepest part of your heart. It’s an aching feeling. Another example, if you had always wanted to become an opera singer but grew too old working at a safe but meaningless office job for 40 years, you would have “han” deep down your heart. Another example, if you had an argument with your mom and she suddenly passed away and you didn’t apologize, it will remain as “han” wrenching your heart forever. It’s not easy to get rid of it, and they say you die with it. You can remove it by fulfilling what you couldn’t in that situation, so in this case, confessing your love to that person, becoming an opera singer, and apologizing to your mom. But most of the time you can’t. The only real way to get rid of “han” is to just let go.
