  • This Bosch GBH4DFE drill was left in as it is not hammering any more.
But the motor is sparking heavily and the armature also needs replaced.

Having old stocks of parts is always the greatest thing for anyone on the mechanics field.

I did a full repair and service on the exact same hammer drill blindfolded. And then I woke up. It is frightening watching Dean put this all back together without pictures.

I changed the armature (and brushes of course) on my Spit 335, who is the exact same machine with a speed variator last week, after years of use and abuse... It run so smooth now. What a great tool! Thanks Dean for sharing your knowledge, you are a great professor.

Very nice Video 👍The Makita hammer grease can also be found as 195127-0. I'm pretty sure that is the same stuff. I can get that pretty cheap, about 3-4 € here in Germany. Useful for fixing smaller machines. They are also included in some Makita service kits.

the chap that owns this drill thingies is one lucky man that you have a stock of older parts on the shelf but must be running short of them soon really nice repair nothing left all new bits and you don't charge an arm and a foot to do is just amazing in itself Cheers

Thanks for this Dean, I've been hoping you would do one of these as I have a 2001 one . Fortunately it has only ever had light use and is pretty much redundant now but still in excellent condition and certainly worth a clean out and regrease. The part numbers and video will be a great help
    Thanks again

Nice armature tester! Alternative for people not having one of these would be to measure the windings of the armature on resistance with a multimeter set on Ohms and measure the segments on opposite sides to find differences between the windings. Thanks again for the vid and I'm still hating those Bosch c-clips 🤭

Watching your videos and hear "give it a try folks" at final I realize I just have to try to repair my expensive Bosch jig saw (which my hired Poles used upside down while cutting firewall sheets). Neither my Ryobi One+ or old AEG can compare to the blue Pro.

Is there one of the old power tools, like this, where you have enough parts on the shelf that you could virtually build a brand new tool starting from just having a few of the bigger parts to start from? The shop tour you did recently has had me thinking of those old parts just sitting there ever since I saw that video 😂

If one of the connectors in the commutator is higher that means it is loose and when it comes completely out there will be a catastrophic failure.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  4 місяці тому +1

if one is higher, then the armature is already burnt out, and needs replaced

The good ol Bosch drills and hammers are rock solid.
Could it have lasted longe than 20 years without failure?
    Probably.
BUT do you want your tool to cost 2x as much and be bulkier and heavier because the components are beefier and higher quality just so it may last 30 years instead of 20 without major repair?
When manufacuring tools you have to strike a balance there thats what it comes down to ultimately.

But why cant you put armature under the lathe and take out the raised part, also I've saw thousands armature fixed even by hands without lathe. You can even use mini lathe.

Yeah it would work but doesn't last long. The comm bars are attached via glue/polymer underneath. When it overheats, that bit of plastic is destroyed, that's why they raise.
