I just bought an M1 iPad Pro for many of these exact reasons. After weeks of deliberation and comparison all in all it is by far the best value aside from perhaps the M1 iPad Air, or the 10th gen iPad. I found one for ~$550 in excellent condition with 128GB and Cellular. This should last years to come, and get all the newest features for a few more years. If you are getting your first iPad, or want to step up to Pro, this is the model to get in 2024.
The ipad in general is brilliant. I did an upgrade to a new m2 one with 512GB for a great price. (although in Europe you get wrecked price wise anyway but still). I upgraded from a 256GB 2018.
I just got one of these on layaway at my local pawn shop. 12.9" screen, full keyboard & pen setup, in good shape, all for half the price as the same model brand new, without accessories. I've committed to paying it off by the holidays, I'm quite excited.
Just bought the iPad M1 11“ with 512GB and 5G used with warranty. I was debating between with the new pro and air. The old pro is a better deal than the new air, especially bc of the 120hz. And debating between old and new pro, I came to the conclusion I don’t need an M4. Especially the extra costs for the new pen and keyboard was a downturner too. Your video confirmed my decision, thanks. I paid half the price compared to the news gen without missing anything game changing.
Great video I ended up finding an 11 in m2 iPad pro 256gb with magic keyboard and apple pencil for 750 after all fees and am absolutely loving it, and loving saving the extra money! Too make matters better its only three months old and has the limited warranty until next march. IOt has become my main ediitn computer and mobile production workhorse.
My big thing keeping me away from the new m4 models is the lack of the Smart Keyboard Folio. I like to use the keyboard as a case and fold it back when I want to use it as a tablet.
I have my 12.9 pro 2020 model and it works perfectly for my corporate job and studies. I do note taking, emails, banking, O365 office and other web apps. I leave my MacBook at home, it’s mainly used if I need to do power point presentation editing. Battery and performance is perfect so far.
Got an M2 11” Pro earlier this year after the announcement of the new M4 Pro! This one is 1TB and Cellular and I snagged it for around 800 bucks at Best Buy. Wayyyyy better deal than the 1000 dollar M4 with 128gb of storage and only 8 gigs of ram. While 16 gigs is overkill for iPadOS, it is nice to have. Very roomy and I mostly got it for the big storage size since my last iPad was 64 gigs and just didn’t hold up well
It was one of my first devices that I bought on its launch because I knew this thing is a beast…. never regretted buying it.❤(i’m commenting using the same iPad)

I upgraded from that to m1 this weekend. It’s super fast and sharp. Same ppi but screen so much better. Only change I’m gonna make is 12.9 is too big for me so I’ll find an 11 instead
I took it a step further. I took the budget approach and purchased the M1 iPad Air 5 as soon as it went on sale when the new iPad models released, then picked up the Logitech Combo Touch (also on sale). Perfect setup for me.
i am using this for the last 2+ years - and it works like a charm. Batter is ok as of now. gaming does drain it -but i can live with it. not planning to upgrade for atleast 2 more years - if this does not break or lost.
I had the original 12.9” Pro and loved the screen and speed but the size was too big to be truly portable in my bags, whereas the 11” M2 not only crunches through photo shoots and small videos like nobodies business, but also looks amazing. Just bought a refurbished one on Amazon here in Canada, coming from a 2017 12.9, stepped down to the 11 for portability and also got the 5g version for the same reason. It was a little more than I was hoping to spend but coming with a little warranty is worth the peace of mind over marketplace or something. Really looking forward to the new OS as well as double the ram and speed from my already adequate 2017. I looked at a number of things and reviews before I opted for the 2021 as the best value to performance and also giving me a fair bit of security support unlike my current running on iOs 17. I got my iPad Pro M1 Cellular 12.9 128gb for $500 best decision, my reason to choose the bigger one was the XDR screen for photo editing and the the future proof M1 processor.
I was about to get the 13" pro, but figured it's not way too much bump, the M4 is a beast and the new pencil, but OS wise i think i should just stay with my M1 until i see a major difference, otherwise i'll just upgrade my macbook instead.
For me the only issue is that M1 pro is not available on most trustable online stores, and where it is available it is till being sold way to expensive.
sticking with my M2 ipad pro 12.9, and my ipad mini. best of both worlds and ipad overkill. however, it fits what i love. the m1 11 inch pro is def an amazing tablet.
My M1 is more than enough for my workflow (office work, minor consumption) but I have noticed the battery is starting to wear faster and I am concerned that with 18 battery life may get significantly worse. Great video though thanks.!
I was happy with the M1, then it started to not be as bright as my other devices, like it was slowly getting darker, then the M2 came out and i waited to see what was next, which was the M4. The M4, as nice and tempting as it is , the beautiful screen, super fast processor, new front facing camera placement, wasnt enough to sway me so I decided to wait for the M2 to go on sale as i use these for work and used the M1 a ton, but it didnt have the storage i now need. I bought a new M2 1 TB, with celluar . It was a fantastic deal and the screen isnt a dull, dim, yellowish color. I do believe the m4 would be great, however, i didnt like the sound as compared to the M1/M2's. i think now, most should take a look at the M2.
I bought the M2 iPad Pro last year. As an illustrator it was a good upgrade from the 2018 model. The extra ram is good when using Procreate. I was able to keep my old Apple Pencil & keyboard. The new M4 iPad when u add the accessories is almost double the price so not worth it to me.
LCD to OLED is a quite dramatic upgrade but miniLED to OLED is less so, if you want the 11” then I think it makes more sense, but 13” is 3x the price of a 12.9” M1 second hand, that’s a tough pill to swallow.
I bought the m4 and honestly am watching this because I truly don't know if I'll keep it. (Box hasn't arrived yet) But I made the decision because: 1. Apple Card financing is generally superior to affirm or another 3rd party payment plan. 2. Landscape Camera and mic quality is insane. For the cost difference ($400-600), it's hard to say there is a better set-up for interviews or just general calling. 3. Ideally if I buy it once, I won't have to buy an iPad again. At least for 5-6 years, or because we won't need them in that time. 4. I needed to get 5G on it However, everything else for a student or gaming usage, yeah I'd probably sleep better at night knowing I didn't overspend on the device.

I am upgrading from the 2018. The biggest reason I upgraded was because of the screen, and the M chips have better hvec decoding. Good news is that the M4 has already had some minor sales. I think they aren't selling as well, because the M1 iPad is already too fast for the software.
I’ve had the 2018 IPP 12.9 up till now and I just went for the 11” M4 iPP this time. It’s not a laptop replacement and will never be, so no point going for a bigger one.
I say that the iPadOS needs something like Samsung DEX (Desktop Experience) because right now is not Stage Manager. If Apple overhaul State Manager then that is a different story at current iteration is not.
I upgraded my iPad Pro M1 chip which I had for 3 years to the M4 model. To be honest it's nice but i don't recommend it unless you want OLED, faster performance and be able to use the new Apple Pencil.
I really wanted the new M4 iPad Pro to blow my mind and save the world, but alas it did not. I chose to keep my M1 setup with keyboard & pencil. I got a 15” M3 MBA instead for under $1200 at Best Buy Black Friday in July sale.
I have the Apple Pencil, but I don’t use it much at all. I am primarily a Magic keyboard user. Most of my needs are not that complex. My M1 iPad Pro is more that capable doing what I need. It is a 12.9 inch 2TB model. It i fs paid for. I keep Apple Care up for, Good thing I did because the battery died on my previous. So with the Apple Care, I got a brand new replacement M1 free. So I am good for some time to come.
It's also possibly the last pro deviced that people, like myself, who are extremely sensitive to display flicker (PWM/Temporal dithering) can use. The M2 and new M4 pros cause horrendous eye strain, migraines etc. As do MBPs and a lot of iphone pros too. There are thousands of posts on reddit, macforums and other sites but Apple don't seem to care
I got the M1 Pro 11inch in early 2023 for around $700 from apple and i even feel like that was a lot of money for a secondary device that is very nice to have but nobody needs. I think a fair price should be about $400 lol but we are way inflated now the new ones are starting at $1000… who in their right mind buys that unless you’re just super rich.
It’s definitely a good device in 2024 if you don’t want to spend too much. If you can afford it tho, go for the m4. It’s lighter, has a significantly better screen and the new Magic Keyboard and pen are also a significant upgrade. It’s all in all a much more enjoyable experience and I upgraded from the m1 to the m4.
I had a 2018 11” pro and adored it with a Logitech detachable keyboard. The battery finally gave up. 😅 I tried M4 pro, but the tandem OLED had way too much brightness and starkness for my eyes. I even reduced white point balance via Accessibility. Note iPhone OLEDs have zero issue for me. I would have preferred single layer OLED or mini led for the 11” TBD. Anyone else have this eye strain issue?? I have a 7th gen mini and it’s great except for screen size and no keyboard. Therefore I ordered an M2 pro 11”(128gb) at Best Buy, which will arrive soon. I only wished they had 256gb in stock but oh well. I still have a couple of older keyboards but need to see what is out there to best support. I’m thinking this will be perfect compromise, and then purchase a Mac Mini M4 for when I NEED a real OS 😂. Great vid!
Idk if the pro series needs mac os but they surely need to ramp up brining desktop class app support. There’s no reason why apples suite of apps like Pages isn’t the full scale app. This should have been the first to happen.
I started off with the 7th generation then felt like i necedad to upgrade 10 months later and got the iPad Pro M1 12.9 then i realized there wasnt huge difference so i decided to wait 3 years just to see if the New ones Will it be a difference then i got the m4 iPad Pro 13 inch and the only difference is the screen and camera quaility
Apple has a lot of work to do on Desktop Features in iPadOS-19. Whether or not that should include Stage Manager or overhaul the entire feature for a more usable desktop experience using keyboard/mouse is another question at this point. As such iPad hardware has reached a plateaux of usability due to OS limitations when the cheaper models do most of all what the pros can do.
the 12.9 inch is really only good if you want the bigger screen like myself or not like myself you are a drawer you can still definitely use the 11 inch for drawing but if you can afford it makes sense for the 12.9 inch.
i have the ipad pro m1 12.9 inch and it still runs perfectly and with everything i do on it, i cannot find a reason to upgrade to the latest m4 ipad pro or m2 ipad air

I am about to go back to school, which i know i would need a ipad for, because we have to draw stuff here and there. Does it make sense to get the older 12.9 M2 or should i start all over and buy everything for the new 13 M4? I’m typing from this exact device right now. For 3 years in undergrad, I used this device as my main. Since I’m going back, the programs I’ll need will require a laptop, and I’m planning on getting a refurbished MacBook. I thought about upgrading my iPad too but I really don’t see the point. It’s perfect just as it is.
Instead of buying my son a new iPad for his birthday, I passed along my M1 11 128gb to him and picked up an 11 M2 512gb Cellular + WiFi from BestBuy for $899 ($400 discount). I’m worried that the Cellular 5g will not make my battery last that long but this way I don’t have to rely on hotspot all the time and can have unlimited 5G data. Plus I don’t have to worry about running out of memory with the 512gb. $899 is not cheap, but a $400 discount is nice with the package that I got, and my son gets to have a really nice iPad.
@@ballooneyjr4294 because I wanted more storage and to try cellular data. They price matched another $100 so it was a $500 discount. When I looked at M1s with the same features it was very close in price and most of them were used or refurbished.

i got mine on facebook marketplace. you might have to search deep and wait a while, but it'll be worthwhile if you can find a good deal. i got a 256gb cellular model for $500 and definitely felt like it was worth the effort

Can i ask if model no. A2459 is an M1 chip? Because when i look it at google it says its 2018 model which doesn't use the M1 chip, but the camera design is the same as 2021 not the 2018. Im really confused. Just planning to buy a use ipad pro 3rd gen.
I saw in one of his videos he has a camera mount up top. I can’t recall if it’s attached on one side to the desk so the camera hovers over the desk high in the air or if it’s connected on both sides from the camera to his desk. For better stability I assume.

I've had my M1 Ipad Pro 12.9" for a while. And it suits my needs just fine. I don't do any work with it. Reading, watching video's, email, that's all.
I say that the iPadOS needs something like Samsung DEX (Desktop Experience) because right now is not Stage Manager. If Apple overhaul State Manager then that is a different story at current iteration is not.
I've been using ipad pro m1 for the last 2 years and it's still good. Can't find any reason to upgrade.
I got the 11 inch M2 256gig iPad pro. It’s awesome. I expect it to last 10 years.
Buying a refurbished M1 iPad is a significant good deal comparing with the M2 iPad Air. The better screen already makes it worth it.
I upgraded my iPad Pro M1 chip which I had for 3 years to the M4 model. To be honest it's nice but i don't recommend it unless you want OLED, faster performance and be able to use the new Apple Pencil.
I was gonna buy an M4 iPP until i saw iPad OS 18 demo at WWDC. After that i bought a refurb M1 iPP with no regrets so far

I really wanted the new M4 iPad Pro to blow my mind and save the world, but alas it did not. I chose to keep my M1 setup with keyboard & pencil. I got a 15” M3 MBA instead for under $1200 at Best Buy Black Friday in July sale.
I have the Apple Pencil, but I don’t use it much at all. I am primarily a Magic keyboard user. Most of my needs are not that complex. My M1 iPad Pro is more that capable doing what I need. It is a 12.9 inch 2TB model. It i fs paid for. I keep Apple Care up for, Good thing I did because the battery died on my previous. So with the Apple Care, I got a brand new replacement M1 free. So I am good for some time to come.
It's also possibly the last pro deviced that people, like myself, who are extremely sensitive to display flicker (PWM/Temporal dithering) can use. The M2 and new M4 pros cause horrendous eye strain, migraines etc. As do MBPs and a lot of iphone pros too. There are thousands of posts on reddit, macforums and other sites but Apple don't seem to care

I got the M1 Pro 11inch in early 2023 for around $700 from apple and i even feel like that was a lot of money for a secondary device that is very nice to have but nobody needs. I think a fair price should be about $400 lol but we are way inflated now the new ones are starting at $1000… who in their right mind buys that unless you’re just super rich.

It’s definitely a good device in 2024 if you don’t want to spend too much. If you can afford it tho, go for the m4. It’s lighter, has a significantly better screen and the new Magic Keyboard and pen are also a significant upgrade. It’s all in all a much more enjoyable experience and I upgraded from the m1 to the m4.
I had a 2018 11” pro and adored it with a Logitech detachable keyboard. The battery finally gave up. 😅
I tried M4 pro, but the tandem OLED had way too much brightness and starkness for my eyes. I even reduced white point balance via Accessibility. Note iPhone OLEDs have zero issue for me. I would have preferred single layer OLED or mini led for the 11” TBD. Anyone else have this eye strain issue??
I have a 7th gen mini and it’s great except for screen size and no keyboard. Therefore I ordered an M2 pro 11”(128gb) at Best Buy, which will arrive soon. I only wished they had 256gb in stock but oh well. I still have a couple of older keyboards but need to see what is out there to best support.
I’m thinking this will be perfect compromise, and then purchase a Mac Mini M4 for when I NEED a real OS 😂. Great vid!

Idk if the pro series needs mac os but they surely need to ramp up brining desktop class app support. There’s no reason why apples suite of apps like Pages isn’t the full scale app. This should have been the first to happen.

I started off with the 7th generation then felt like i necedad to upgrade 10 months later and got the iPad Pro M1 12.9 then i realized there wasnt huge difference so i decided to wait 3 years just to see if the New ones Will it be a difference then i got the m4 iPad Pro 13 inch and the only difference is the screen and camera quaility

Apple has a lot of work to do on Desktop Features in iPadOS-19. Whether or not that should include Stage Manager or overhaul the entire feature for a more usable desktop experience using keyboard/mouse is another question at this point. As such iPad hardware has reached a plateaux of usability due to OS limitations when the cheaper models do most of all what the pros can do.

the 12.9 inch is really only good if you want the bigger screen like myself or not like myself you are a drawer you can still definitely use the 11 inch for drawing but if you can afford it makes sense for the 12.9 inch.
i have the ipad pro m1 12.9 inch and it still runs perfectly and with everything i do on it, i cannot find a reason to upgrade to the latest m4 ipad pro or m2 ipad air
Do not upgrade to the air series if you use the pro model. You would get some downgrade in certain important area

Let me ask everyone, i used to have a 12.9 M2 ipad pro.. I gave it to my cousin, I still have the old magic keyboard and like 10 different cases for it and more. I am about to go back to school, which i know i would need a ipad for, because we have to draw stuff here and there. Does it make sense to get the older 12.9 M2 or should i start all over and buy everything for the new 13 M4? I see now you can add an external camera to use for facetime since the older ipads are sideways..

I’m typing from this exact device right now. For 3 years in undergrad, I used this device as my main. Since I’m going back, the programs I’ll need will require a laptop, and I’m planning on getting a refurbished MacBook. I thought about upgrading my iPad too but I really don’t see the point. It’s perfect just as it is.
Instead of buying my son a new iPad for his birthday, I passed along my M1 11 128gb to him and picked up an 11 M2 512gb Cellular + WiFi from BestBuy for $899 ($400 discount). I’m worried that the Cellular 5g will not make my battery last that long but this way I don’t have to rely on hotspot all the time and can have unlimited 5G data. Plus I don’t have to worry about running out of memory with the 512gb. $899 is not cheap, but a $400 discount is nice with the package that I got, and my son gets to have a really nice iPad.

@@ballooneyjr4294 because I wanted more storage and to try cellular data. They price matched another $100 so it was a $500 discount. When I looked at M1s with the same features it was very close in price and most of them were used or refurbished.

You're lucky that you can get the battery replaced. In Denmark, we can only get the entire device replaced.

i got mine on facebook marketplace. you might have to search deep and wait a while, but it'll be worthwhile if you can find a good deal. i got a 256gb cellular model for $500 and definitely felt like it was worth the effort

Can i ask if model no. A2459 is an M1 chip? Because when i look it at google it says its 2018 model which doesn't use the M1 chip, but the camera design is the same as 2021 not the 2018. Im really confused. Just planning to buy a use ipad pro 3rd gen.

I saw in one of his videos he has a camera mount up top. I can’t recall if it’s attached on one side to the desk so the camera hovers over the desk high in the air or if it’s connected on both sides from the camera to his desk. For better stability I assume.
I wish it did too but I really enjoy my pro though
