Unicron Trilogy would not be remade for obvious reasons, but we can hope for for best parts of it to be reincorporated into upcoming series. I totally would see Sideswipe as third core member of Unicron worshipers, after Soundwave and Shockwave.

One of the things I got to say about Armada: Most of the time, when studios try to do a "reimagine" of an iconic character, there will always be fan backlash (*cough* Bionicle *cough*). Not so with Armada Starscream. He's one of beloved Starscreams.

    • @L1LegoAnimations
      @L1LegoAnimations 5 років тому +73

My only quirk with Armada Starscream is how he was not only reincarnated, but also totally different both times. He shrank and did pretty much nothing in Energon and in Cybertron he became more like his G1 incarnation, ditching the whole "true warrior" and "honorable" thing he had going originally.

I have nothing against the reincarnation part but i would have preferd it if he would have been a Autobot with a new Name and THIS Starscreme was more of a Clone that was made out of the remains of Starscreme original Body, infected by Uicrons Evil ore hell Unicron himself in Starscreles repaired old Body.....that acually would have bin a nice Plot Twist

The way you closed this episode genuinely made me teary eyed. I was introduced to Transformers thanks to Armada as a child (I had seen some G1 and Beast Wars but they never captured me). Now 10+ years later I'm back into Transformers, I'm all grown up, my toy and merch collection is growing, and it's all thanks to the fact I re-watched Armada some 2 years ago.
When I saw this episode appear in my subscription feed I almost squealed because no matter how messy Armada was, it will always have such an important place in my heart. And I truly have it to thank for bringing such an important chunk of inspiration and joy into my life during the hard times I've faced the past years (being a stepping stone into watching fantastic shows such as Prime, Animated, and Beast Wars). Keep up the great work Chris, your show is always a joy to watch!

I don't know how many people know this but when the Unicron Trilogy started Takara was in bad financial shape, which is part of the reason why Megatron was repainted into Galvatron multiple times (from Transformers car robots/robots in Disguise toTransformers Cybertron/galixiy force). the autobot combiner gimmick we saw in Transformers Energon/super link was actually a reused gimmick from the Japan exclusive autobot combiner team multiforce had the ability to combine into a Gestalt as well as combined individually in the shirt / pants mode configuration.

Armada was what really got me into Transformers. I grew up watching the show and had almost all of the toys. It was a huge part of my life at the time, and for that reason, it will always have a very special place in my heart. I absolutely loved the designs for the characters (Megatron in particular, which is my favorite incarnation of the character), and Starscream’s story arc is still one of the best in Transformers history. And let’s not forget the absolutely EPIC final battle between Optimus Prime and Galvatron, which is easily my favorite Optimus vs Megs battle in any Transformers media. Sure, Armada is not without its flaws. But it was still a heck of a show that I am Incredibly happy I got to grow up with.

I will always say this: the Unicron Trilogy had some if the best Transformers stories to ever be told on a television screen. From Starscream's tragic story arc in Armada, to his amnesiac cyber-ghost in Energon, and ultimately concluding with him getting his ass handed to him by Primus himself in Cybertron; bringing back Unicron in a way that made him an almost bigger threat than any other media, particularly the G1 Film ever had done (Armada Sideways being one of the best villains in Transformers Animated history); to the introduction of other Primes in the continuities, and introducing the concept of Primus himself for the first time in an animated format.
The unicron trilogy had amazing stories, great toys, and characters that deserve to be brought back again and again. The shows themselves weren't great, but the ideas were all amazingly executed.
Oh, also, Gary Chalk as Soundwave. Nice touch

I was introduced to Transformers through Armada. As an adult, I can recognize the flaws of the series but I still hold that Cybertron in particular deserves a place among the best the franchise has to offer. And in general, several Unicron Trilogy characters are favourites of mine, such as its rebooted versions of Jetfire and Starscream but also completely original characters like Sideways and Vector Prime. Also the Armada ending theme is the best in the series.

Cybertron was the series that got me into transformers as a kid, so this episode was a huge nostalgia trip for me. I couldn't stop remembering how much the show and toys just endlessly captured my imagination, having huge battles between my autobots and deceptions almost daily (although I'm not entirely sure kid me entirely grasped the concept of them being opposing factions in a war, I specifically remember kid me often pairing up landmine and thundercracker, who were my two favorites, with no second thoughts or need to come up with an explanation as to why they would team up)

Transformers Cybertron stood out the most to me as well. I missed a good portion of Armada and I was mostly disinterested in Energon. Cybertron had a pretty awesome intro theme and better CGI than Energon, and I felt that lead human Coby, was more likeable and competent than previous human characters. He helped repair the Autobot’s injuries; played a critical role in helping Hotshot winning a championship race; and created his own transformation armour from the remains of a drone, so he that he could fight alongside the Autobots to an extent. I don’t of a human lead character that has accomplished more than that.

That's probably because "Cybertron" was animated by Gonzo which at the time produced more beautiful 2d/3d animation. It would be replicated for the "Transformers Go!" DVD series but produced by veteran studio Tatsunoko (which was majorily owned by Takara Tomy at the time).

  • @theandroidartist5897
    @theandroidartist5897 4 роки тому +46

I personally liked Cybertron, that was the series I grew up with and was my introduction into Transformers. it also had one of the better intro themes and overall soundtrack of the time. Not to mention that Cybertron introduced Thunderblast, the first female Decepticon(I know Black Arachnia was in Beast wars, but she was a Predacon, not a Decepticon), Thunderblast was also unique because she had a speedboat alt mode while everyone else had racing cars, animals, construction vehicles and the like.
[Edit]: I read a few comments down and one reminded me of Ransack and Crumplezone, watching back clips online, I can't help but realise how hilarious those two really were. But the more I think about it, if Hasbro had to bring any Cybertron original character back to prominence, it would have to be Thunderblast, I could imagine her being the equivalent to Bayformers Ironhide or G1 Wheeljack, either a weapons specialist or inventor of creative weapons, and probably butting heads with a few other cons over some Decepticon drama like Starscream did with Arachnid and Shockwave in Prime.
Long story short, looking into the rest of Transformers media, Cybertron is one of my favourites.

When i was a toddler i watched G1 (the G2 rerun) & Beast wars at the same time. After season 1 of Beast wars transformers were gone for me, Sure there were reruns of G1 (again G2 version) but i would catch the episodes only a few times until it stopped altogether. Until i have gotten the Internet i never knew about Beast machines (except for the DVD commercials in 2006) nor Robots in disguise (2001) and slowly but surely i had nothing TF related for a long time.
It was not until 2002 when i saw a toy commercial for Armada where i remembered oh yeah transformers, wish i can watch more of it. But then when i was watching Batman forever and the commercials were running i decided to see what was on RTL2 and then ... NEW TRANSFORMERS! Oh man how happy i was to see Optimus again. I even remember which episode it was, it was when Starscream got Swindel and it was AWESOME. Armada made me a fan again and i continued watching again & again, only problem was it ran while i was in school. I only watched Armada and a lot of other anime on RTL2 only when i was sick or didn't go to school for other reasons. I missed many episodes but thankfully i at least saw the final arc with Unicron and it gave us the best final battle between Optimus and Megatron/Galvatron (yes that includes the movie) the way they were duking it out was amazing. If you did not see it watch the last episode, it is called no joke MORTAL COMBAT.
After Armada ended i thought that TF was over (and after that great final battle who can blame me) but then one day on Toonami a Brown haired kid turned blonde for a second and turned around to see Ravage looking robots falling from the sky ... and then a bright light appeared FLASH! OPTIMUS IS BACK BABY. And the hype train was on with, episode 6? When Demolisher saw Megatron alive again. My 9 year old self was shocked to see him back as much as Demolisher did, and it was great. I know people say that this is the worst one of the TV shows, but i would rather watch this than any of the Japanese G1 seasons. It was a fun ride IMO & while it didn't age well (and the writing is sub par in most of it) i still like re watching it after so many years.
I remember going to a Chinese shop and getting my KO Cybertron Starscream. The G1 colors on him just called to me, his space ship was cool, the robot is beautiful just all around great for what he was. It is the first Starscream toy i have ever gotten and since it was a KO i thought that it was not based on any particular version of Screamer. I went home and after playing with him and watching the DVD that came with it (it had 2 G1 ep. in Chinese) i watched the Toonami block and then BOOM! Out of the Volcano arises ... MY STARSCREAM TOY THAT I GOT IN THE SAME DAY? I was blown away even more so than before i mean did anyone just get a toy and then instantly see it on TV? Seeing him tower over everyone was incredible but the animation and designs were different from Energon, how come? It turned out that it was a new show called Cybertron. Without a shadow of a doubt Cybertron is my favorite out of the entire trilogy, yes Armada was more serious but aside from the latter half and Starscream everything else was inferior to Cybertron. I loved the characters (even the humans) the locations and even the animation (lip flaps aside) and it has the best toy line we had ever gotten.
The Unicron Trilogy holds a special place in my heart. It has its ups & downs (a lot of downs in the Armada toy line & Energon show) but it has a place in the franchise, it gave more than it took away , it show me that there is good in Decepticons (did not see season 3 of G1 back then) and i shall forever be thankful to it for cementing me as a Transformers fan.

I don’t think the first half is necessary all bad. The first 13 episodes are admittedly quite repetitive but I thought the show really picked up momentum when Scavenger and Sideways were introduced. I think the problem was that the writers only had enough plot for about 40 episodes, however Japanese shows tend to last 52 episodes (1 episode per week) so they had to stretch the plot. Also, the earlier episodes have the more animation errors and dubbing mistakes (I remember watching the show’s earlier episodes and thinking that all minicons at some point were called Leader 1).

Wow, very impressive. I had no idea that Armada and Energon were actually collaborations, or that it was SUPPOSED to be a trilogy from the beginning. I always thought that Hasbro had just licensed the stuff from Takara like G1, and then tacked on Cybertron to try and tie everything together. I quite agree with you, and I thank for showing that whether you love, like, or hate the Unicron Trilogy, its influence is still with us today. Can't wait for the next one.

"A return to the trilogy (maybe)," I'd be shook. Would really bring me back into the franchise. I loved Armada Starscream's story arc and his character, and I'd love to see him be brought back since he's a fan-favorite. Maybe tie up some loose ends with Alexis? Their friendship was adorable and Energon failed to deliver. I'd be all in for another Japanese anime style sequel to my favorite cartoon as a kid. Also: bring back Michael Dobson as Starscream; he was amazing.

There are plenty of things I love about Transformers Armada and Energon (I never did watch TF: Cybertron). My favorite human character in the Unicron Trilogy is actually one of the least popular. I like Kicker because he's overcome many obstacles, psychological and otherwise,as the series progressed. Sure,he's pretty headstrong, but I admire him for the bravery he's displayed. Cyclonus in the Unicron Trilogy is by far one of the funniest Transformers in my opinion. His maniacal laughter always makes me smile. His reformatting into Snowcat made him much funnier with his joyful yodeling.Seriously,I don't know how Don Brown managed to pull off that yodeling!

He annoyed me a little at first, but once I saw what he values the most, how he cares and protects, how emphatic he is.. the things that were annoying in the beginning started to look just like fun and something to tease him about :)

Lately I have been overly thinking about Unicron Trilogy Megatron.
With whole canon storyline of UT, not only is he the most powerful and determined Megatron, who has come back from the dead more times than any other iteration (Save for IDW Megatron) and had the most powerful ups, he can still make a return.
Key part of the finale is that Vector Prime is locked in eternal battle against Master Galvatron in the afterlife, to prevent him from returning more powerful than before.
The fact that any Transformers writer can bring him back as, not kidding, a potentially multiversal threat, is mindblowing.

I still remember the day I first got into Transformers. I had never even seen any of the cartoons but it all changed when I took a trip to Walmart with my uncle. I'd always run off to the toy isle while he did his thing and normally I'd go straight for the Power Rangers stuff because thats what I was into at the time. Out of nowhere Cybertron Override caught my eye on one of the shelves because reds also one of my favorite colors. Took a closer look and thought everything looked cool, even came with a DVD that had 1 or 2 episodes on it. Took it home and the rest is history.

One of my earliest childhood memories is of Beast Machines, and I had a RID Optimus when I was young but the first series from this franchise I remember really getting invested in was Transformers Cybertron. I have lots of fond memories of rushing home to catch new episodes of the Speed and Beast planet arcs back when they showed new episodes after school. Unfortunately for me either my personal schedule or the schedule for the series changed around the time they revealed that Earth was a "Cyber Planet" like Velocitron and the last arc I remember watching as a kid was the one that found Starscream growing giant with the power of the Omega Lock. To this day I've never sat down and watched the whole show from start to finish but I still have all they toys I bought from that era. I'm particularly fond of my Landmine figure.

Yay, my favorite! I grew up with the Unicron Trilogy, and while I've since gone on to have other series as my focus, it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Cybertron in particular. I never collected many of the toys, but I liked the story and animation so much that, in contrast to many shows of the time, I actually sought out the original Japanese version to watch. Armada is a very close second, since it was the last Transformers anime to be done with traditional animation. Now while I certainly don't hate Energon, I quite like it in fact, I can see why many people do. The CGI is absolutely abhorrent. As a more grown up anime viewer I don't watch shows in the vein of the UT much anymore, I still hold these series as my introduction to Transformers and to anime in general.

Armada was my post-G1 binge tiding-over series until Animated started, back when I was first falling headfirst into loving Transformers; so I'll always have a soft spot for that version of Starscream (even if it is mostly based on the plethora of animated music vids people made for him at the time, which ramped up the pathos that was not so obvious in the series itself!)
You make me want to give Cybertron another go. I watch the first few eps back in the day and thought them good, but never stuck around for the rest of it.

And oh my God, they’re beautiful. Structurally sound, and basically perfect paint finishes.

"I tried to gain favor from you, but nothing was ever good enough no matter how many battles I fought, you always found fault, then I saw the way Optimus treated his men, and I realized he was a leader of integrity....Unlike you." - Starscream

rock2831 an iconic change in his character. He might’ve betrayed the decepticons like normal but instead of wanting to lead the decepticons he just wanted megatron’s/galvatron’s respect

I've watched Armada and Energon in Vietnamese dub back when I was a kid, they were two of my first exposures to the franchise along with the 2007 live action movie and Transformers Animated

@@jp_frost I am curious what makes you like the show? is it just because it was your fist one and you feel nostalgic, or something else? :)

I have to say that Japan did a better job of naming the shows and characters. The theme songs were also a lot better. NeverEnding Road and Taiyou no Transform were standouts for me.

At 5 years old, Energon was my intro to Transformers. After hearing all of the terrible things the fans had to say about it, I had to rewatch it to see if it was bad as I had been told. Oh boy is it a wreck. I still have a great fondness for it though. I've collected most of the l toy line and can remember back to when I snuck a look at my Christmas presents to find Omega Supreme waiting for me. Energon may be a garbage fire, but it's my garbage fire
