    The senior management that set those unreasonable targets for this branch have wiped their hands clean. It's easy to merely point finger at this manager, but those people above him pushing exorbitant targets are left off the hook. This manager might be replaced, but whoever replacing him will be faced with similar challenges and will eventually turn into another toxic manager

    Knowing Bank culture, HDFC will issue a memo setting tough guidelines into recording videos and audios of Zoom calls. Nothing will happen on the toxic culture issue, it will continue as it is

      So this is the problem “the attitude” not one mid level manager like Pushpal. Off course he is an idiot and needs extensive training as a manager. But the management…. The culture it sets up speaks about their lack of growth mentality. All they care about is earning revenues at the cost of burning out employees. And HR dept in these banks are show pieces.

    HDFC is more interested in finding out which employee leaked the video. If a senior VP behaves in this way it speaks about the organization culture which propagates top down. Suspension is just a damage control exercise because of leaked video.

I advocate no marriage/kids these days simply because of burgeoning living costs. It may look nice on Instagram but there’s an EMI and an empty bank account behind it.

    I work in Australia now. Its a massive difference from indian work culture. People treat you with respect, doesnt matter what job it is. I was scared to even resign my job in india as they wouldnt provide me with my experience certificate. Which is very important piece of document in health sector. I had to go to HR every day for a month to convince them. The way they spoke to me and the attitude was very bad

      They spend 9 to 9 at the bank.I don't think they spend time with their family and if someone leaves office at 7, it is considered as crime.They expect their fellow coworkers to stay till 9.Sometime they call to work on the weekend.
      (From my personal experience of working in a private bank in Mumbai)

    This is common culture, verbal abuse is a norm and physical abuse is not a rarity too. Go to any service organisation, be it Bank, Insurance, Accounting firms, Tax firms, audit firms, hospitality, F&B etc. abusing juniors, exploitation, mental disintegration, toxic politics is a part and parcel of the game.

    In Indian languages, jobs are called "Chakri", "Naukri" which means someone who's a chakor/naukar so this type of mentality still lingers that in your getting paid, you're their slave/servant

      I think companies where the top management is south Indians have this problem.
      My personal observation TCS and all tata group is worst employer.
      Hdfc and other banks are nothing infront of Tata groups they are worst of worst
      If you see all tata group top management ceo is always south Indians, some madrasi brahmin name always.
      Even in IT companies if u have top management dominated by madrasis, u can see they are not employee friendly.
      In my view gujju and marwari are better business man and managers.

    I am one of the 58% people who left Bank sales job due to such culture in every bank. I worked from 2005 to 2011. I was depressed, thought I was of no use .

    I knew a guy who joined HDFC and his manager would threaten him with life if he didn't meet the sales target. Poor boy used to stay upset all the time.

    I have worked with Indian employers and US/EU employers and there is a marked difference in work culture here and there, while India has a prevalent "sir ji" culture, for US/EU all employees are treated on the same level and this is primarily because of the laws and regulations that protects the employees in those countries, whereas here, we have regulations in name only and it also gets topped off by the exploitative mentality of people in power like this person. The system needs to be changed from top to bottom, only then will we stop seeing such videos, this was terrible - to actually have to sit and take crap for a person like this for the sake of our jobs.

    This is nothing compared to what my friend, who is a former employee, told me what happens during meetings. Juniors get blatant threats, and constantly abused (literal gaali galoch)... happens in many corporate banks, especially in insurance dept. But what I think is that this type of culture is common in many private sectors--not good for mental health.

    I personally feel that India falls significantly behind Australia or the USA when it comes to work culture. I find myself regretting my decision to pursue my MBA here. Despite graduating from a top MBA college, the seniors in my company treat me with disrespect. I am required to work long hours, usually 10 to 12 hours a day, and even work on Sundays to prepare for the upcoming week. To be honest, life in the Indian corporate sector feels extremely challenging and frustrating. Actually I have made up my mind to pursue another master's degree in the USA next year and plan to settle there permanently.

      Because it happened in Kolkata and is growing worse , it may happen in B2Cs but other B2Cs are not pulling everyone into sales quota culture. You don't have any RnD or business research activities happening there hence all are forced to migrate to different states for job.

    How can he expect that Bank products can be sold at will, and only reason they are not, is because of laziness of the salesman. Like literally their could be multiple reason for this. The bank branch does not have enough wealthy customers to buy those products, the product itself lack features in comparison to competition from other banks, the economic situation is risky, etc.
    Like he believes it's not being sold because of lack of effort from managers, shows his lack of intelligence.
    And the fact, that he exposes himself on video, also proves that. 😂

    Demorlised employee cannot perform. Bombarding customer with misleading offers of insurance or mutual fund only irritates customer . You cannot cheat and mislead and pressurize customer all the time. It is very difficult to open current and savings account and forcing customer to take health and other insurance. Pvt banks try to fleece customer as much as possible. Very bad situation.

      There is no difference even in PSBs. Similar Video Conferences are held every now and then. Placements and postings are pathetic. Many employees including female staff are posted atleast a couple of thousand kilometers from there native place or place of choice.
      Moreover, Staff shortage is severe and will be asked to achieve unrealistic targets. Last but not the least employee is accountable for everything.

    Most people criticise the manager which is natural but the truth within these banks specifically ICICI and HDFC, it’s painful seeing how much these managers go through in front of their seniors. Every organisation culture roots from the top CEO and he should be the first person to blame, instead they nicely threw this Pushpal out to save their face.
    Once we see the inside, then only can we understand the reasons behind his mad shouting. The work culture behind these banks should change then only these can be avoided.
    We can all understand it’s not his own bank to be this mad then it’s the pressure that’s cascading down
