  • BONUS EPISODE ALERT
    In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, Jared breaks down the journey of his early season North Dakota hunt. What started off as a planning a little prank, eventually led to the success of this North Dakota giant. We talk about it all the time, the pursuit of mature bucks. Hunting the thick country of North Dakota is a challenge in itself, let alone completing the goal of shooting a big buck. With the use of cell cams, mapping systems, and other technology in the hunting industry, it can be intimidating hunting a new area without those tools. It forces you to use your woodsmanship skills, read sign, and ultimately prove yourself as a hunter. Knocking down a big North Dakota buck is a dream come true, but the experience and the journey that comes with it is what makes it so special. While you want to have a goal, it's important to take a step back and enjoy these moments with your buddies at deer camp, creating memories that will last forever. You're only given so many seasons, so you gotta make the most of it and enjoy it every step of the way. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show as Jared gives us the recap of his North Dakota buck...

    Love a good woodsmanship story! No corn piles, no foodplots, no cell cams. Just going in, reading sign, trusting your knowledge and connecting. That’s when you know you deserved every ounce of it and won fair and square. Nice job!

      You plant the foodplots to hunt the sign in the hollers near by. Nothing like a corn pile.

    Just went through this. I’ve become such a loner during the season. It used to be all about deer camp and comrade. So I decided to be intentional about changing that. Took my brother out and put him in my best spots. No luck then he had to work so I told my buddy (who has never shot a buck) about my target buck (small town public land) told him we would tag team him. So far by buddy has a doe and a 12 point! Not the target buck either. I have a doe in the freezer and we have both passed several little bucks. It’s been the best season I’ve had in a long time! Don’t lose yourself chasing antlers. Life is too short

    Listened to this about 3 times now, just love hunting stories, something I truly miss back when i was a kid at check stations. We would go every night on the weekend just to shoot the shit with guys.
    But I feel you on the selfish thing and starting to enjoy the company and experience Jared. Long story short (no one probably cares about this part) I've hunted with my dad since I was a kid, always went together for as long as I can remember. When I was about 16-17 I was really itching to go and hunt by myself, you know. Feel like a big kid and shit. it would happen here and there. But when my dad got lung cancer for the first time (he's beaten it 3 times now!) he had to get surgery in September (took 1/3 of his lung out and it was like a 4-5 month recovery). I then hunted by myself without him that whole season. You wanna talk about bringing a young and dumb kid back to earth. I don't think I've been that sad sitting in a stand before. That's when i realized that it wasn't about being successful. It was about meeting back up with my dad (or for you guys, your buddies) at the truck and talking about the hunt. That's what I missed. Walking back to the truck solo was tough that season. My outlook on hunting and how I enjoy it changed after that. I think I get more excited when my dad, or even friends, shoot a deer now than when I do myself. Because at the end of the day. I'm just happy that we all still have memories to make. Its the stories and memories that matter, not the size of the rack or the mount on the wall. That's what I found out. Thats why we hunt.
    side note. My dad is missing 1/3 of each lung, and still shoots a vertical bow. Dude is a badass.

    The ol mud queiff, I laughed so hard walking through a flooded rice field when I was 16 or 17 and my waders were too big and I was queefing with every step and my buddy’s dad hollered out from the pit blind, those your boots or your cooter and I was falling over every few steps freezing my ass off, best part was the ducks wouldn’t stop dropping in and the rule was if a duck dropped while you were out there you had to grab it, so that always made it even more fun to try to give your buddy’s more work to do, typical guys the closer you are with them the meaner you are to them, so literally for fifteen to twenty minutes and it seemed like a hour or two of me falling and walking around stumbling trying to get the ducks and they were just fucking blasting ducks the whole time at the end I was soaked from head to toe and i didn’t know if it was pee from laughing so hard or water from falling

    Great to hear the story and you guys talked about and the end how as you get older you appreciate the deer camp atmosphere more and I certainly get that. I do think there is still a divide between guys enjoying the camp atmosphere and guys solely hunting to just tell stories down at the bar and be part of the “get along gang.” Like to them they could care less about getting after it or in reality making the kill happen and I suppose that’s okay because as Jeremy said before, you just done care about this as much as I do and that’s true they don’t and it just is what it is for those guys. Not hatin’ just sayin’

    Congrats Jared. I gotta question if you have time to answer. Did you get more satisfaction using woodsmanship and unexpectedly getting a buck, rather than using a camera, knowing what deer are in the area, and getting a buck.

    • @HUNTRPOD
      @HUNTRPOD  10 місяців тому +1

      Thx man! It's all relative I think. I've had some pretty amazing hunts for deer I had thousands of trail cam pics of and those were no less exciting or rewarding but there is definitely a purity, almost and innocence to going in blind. Either way, I think embracing the process rather than the result is what makes for the best hunt possible.

    Oooo some Chris Bee wannabe’s. I think I can speak for everyone in NoDak, thanks for nothing. Thank the good lord you guys don’t have the following Chris does yet. I used to think you guys were the “good ole boy” type of hunters that really liked hunting whitetails. Now your true colors shine and it’s all about the money. I’m going to start a push in NoDak for nonresidents to draw for every tag like all the other states are doing. “NoDak, another sleeper state ruined”

    • @HUNTRPOD
      @HUNTRPOD  10 місяців тому +1

      I can appreciate the criticism but only to a point. Where is this supposed money it's all about? North Dakota has good opportunities, just like every other state, we can't just not talk about it and not ever let stories like these be heard. That's how cultures die. I think we did a fair job of keeping the specific location under wraps and of expressing the struggling deer herd and dwindling opportunity out there. If you actually watched this podcast, I think you'll agree the intention and execution was a net positive and if not, I'm sorry you feel that way...

    • @northdakotawaterfowlersbla2358
      @northdakotawaterfowlersbla2358 10 місяців тому

      @@HUNTRPOD Ok let’s be clear, I did watch the entire podcast, as I watch all of your podcasts religiously. I think you guys out out some entertaining and valuable information around hunting whitetails (I’ve been telling all my buddies to not wear their wedding bands to the tree). You’re gonna gain more traction and a bigger spotlight, which I am all for BUT at what detriment? You also know that you’re going to gain a lot of subscribers hence more add revenue and probably more sponsors will come from this kind of attention. I think there was a good moral at the end of the story but in the end I feel that this just attracts far too many hunters that didn’t come here before. I think this is exactly what Rinella was saying when he said “we don’t need more hunters…. There’s not enough land for more hunters” The herd is having enough issues trying to recover from the EHD episode a couple of years ago, now let’s attract the most attention ND has seen. Like all good things they have to come to an end at some point.
