SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless review - my new main mouse

- This is an unboxing and review of the SteelSeries Aerox 5 - which is quite possibly my new favourite mouse. It's fantastic for a number of reasons, not least of which is its comfort, button layout and weight.
The SteelSeries Aerox 5 wireless is interesting for a number reasons and has great features that includes:
An ultra lightweight 74g design for speed and precision making it perfect for all Battle Royale, FPS, MOBA, and other fast-paced games.
Ergonomic 9-button programmable layout with 5 quick action side buttons, including our unique up/down flick switch for fast and efficient in-game actions.
AquaBarrier™ technology is IP54-rated to provide water resistance and protection from dust, dirt, and more.
Quantum 2.0 Wireless transmits data at unreal speeds, giving the flexibility of 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth 5.0, while also allowing for 180 hours of continuous play with fast charging.
TrueMove Air precision optical gaming sensor with true 1-to-1 tracking, 18,000 CPI, 400 IPS, 40G acceleration, and tilt tracking.
Next-gen Golden Micro IP54 Switches with over 80M click durability.
Highlights of the Aerox 5 Wireless for me includes:
A bigger and more comfortable design
More buttons gives more flexibility and programmability
A smooth experience with those PTFE feet
Lowlights:
Battery life isn't as good as the Aerox 3 was but it does have fast charging
That up/down flick switch is a weird one and not easy to use.

Mine arrived couple of days ago, just waiting for my rig to arrive … Live your content, thank you!
You honestly do amazing reviews. To be honest, whenever I really want to look at a review of a product, first I check if you have already done a review, only after that I go to look for reviews from other content creators :D
That's really nice of you. Thank you.
@@TheProvokedPrawn yo so I have a problem I’ve been having it for like a week and a half and the scroll wheel doesn’t always do the command in game do you know the reason why
Thank you for giving a demonstration of the software, not many content creators do that.
I try to be thorough
Finally as tech reviewer whi is not a logetic / razer fanboy. You got yourself a new subscriber. Keep it up 👍
just bought this; as it was 40% off on Amazon. Thanks for efforts man, you've helped me with many things pc related
just ordered mine. Thanks for a very comprehensive review.
Thanks for watching
Great thorough review of this mouse. as always great content! looking forward to using mine soon
Hope you enjoy it!
im a big steelseries fan right now i have the rival 310 and im thinking about getting the Aerox 5 or something like that. This review has helped me a lot.
Glad to help..hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe 🦐
I had Rival 310 for 3 years now but lately theres some problem with left click so I decided its time for a new mouse and bought aerox 5 wireless. Its gonna arrive soon, what are your experiences with it?
I just got this mouse, and I really like it. First time using a mouse with holes, and I really like how lightweight and cool it feels.
Can't wait for the Aerox 9 review. Aerox 5 and 9 are very interesting.
Doesn't the 9 look like a bit much though with all those buttons? It looks like it would become a Jank fest with relative ease
@@christofferredfielfd1758 all those extra butttons are pretty good for a lot of shortcuts for productivity applications and MOBAs or in my use case ,finer unit control in RTS.The many layout is hard to get used to at first but you get used to it later on after use
@@christofferredfielfd1758 got one is hella nice for shooters to switch and knife with those buttons
Love your reviews! Im going to sub. 👍
Very informative video, really helping me decide between a few similar mice (lightweight, palm grip, medium-large size, extra side buttons). You've got a very easy, conversational style that makes you always enjoyable to listen to. I think you're in the same league as Rocket Jump Ninja for quality peripheral reviews!
Can I ask you what your hand measurements are? I'm 19x10cm so if you included that info on all your videos where you talk about mouse size and hand fit it would help tremendously for viewers like me to get objective and detailed info about how the mouse will fit our hands. I would argue the most important feature of any mouse by a big margin is size, shape, and grip type!
Another thing I hoped you would talk about was the switches feel, is that something you can comment on here? I appreciate you went into detail about the button texture and design and the mousewheel feel but the information I'm most looking for is both actuation force (looking up the switch type is only half the story since the same switch can feel totally different on two mice with different button designs) and some concrete descriptions about the click-feel eg snappy, clicky, mushy, deep or short travel, quick spring return, etc. I think a lot of us who are nerds about mice & keyboards are getting real interested in how the various optical/magnetic microswitches that different manufacturers are coming up with stack up with each other and to the standard Omrons that we've all gotten used to.
I'd also love you hear if you have opinions on how this mouse compares to similar products eg Razer Basilisk V3 or Glorious Model I.
Nice review as always.
As many other Logitech G502 lightspeed users are leaning towards other brands because of the left click issue, I have just encountered it and I'm looking for an alternative and the Aerox 5 looks like a valid option with the side buttons which I use on the G502.
I still have an old G502 wired mouse which I'll use until I get a new mouse, I'm pretty annoyed about the lightspeed, it's over the warranty period and it's in mint condition otherwise. The only thing holding me back is the weight, I think it may be too light for me.
Nice review & mouse. :)
You should do audibooks your voice is so relaxing 😎😎. Thanks for the review. Subbed
Thanks for watching
How is the maintenance on the mouse overtime? Having a lot of holes i feel like it would be hard to maintain keeping it clean. Thts my only concern on buying that mouse just for that reason alone.
i’ve had this mouse for about 5 months now and maintenance isn’t terrible if your consistent with cleaning the holes on the lower parts
Air can could work
Question, are you able to pair two devices simultaneously unto the mouse? I've been really in love with steelseries devices and wanted to know if you could do that and switch between two devices.
Maybe a little late to the party, but just got this mouse and I absolutely love it. Definitely one of my new favorites
Glad you enjoy it!
Honestly love this mouse. Great review. The only only thing that gets in the way is how far that “sniper”/ silver button is. I can still reach it but man I really hope they fix that
Does anybody notice that the front side button and back side button are quite far apart? I have bigger hands and I would like them more compact.
My days of searching for the perfect mouse, have come to an end. I shall die in peace.
the fact that this mouse weighs the same as a razer viper ultimate is pretty surprising to me. i've been loving the aerox 9 for MMOs but I can't get used to the numpad for FPS games like Destiny, looking forward to checking out the flipper on the aerox 5. gotta say, the front paddle also seemed like it would be too far forward for me though I do play claw, curious to see how that turns out
I feel the same about the Aerox 9. It's potentially great, but as an FPS player I find it a bit awkward. The 5 is much nicer for fast FPS play.
is there any way that you know of to increase the cps using the steelseries engine? I found that the max seems to be 13 cps, but just curious if it goes above that or not. Thank you!
Something I've wondered, and maybe a stupid question:
With mice with more than two side buttons, will games automatically recognize all buttons beyond mouse4/mouse5 as separate buttons?
Most games should recognize them, have not had any problems w it.
How is this mice as compared to the razer viper? went to rtings to compare their shape and they seemed highly similar with the aerox being a little tiny bit taller than the viper
the length, the width all looks the same too
(will never touch another razer product, their QC is horrible. Viper last 1 year plus and my middle wheel click is dead. Needa use more force than usual to register a click)
i got the razer basilisk v3 wired mouse, and in comparison, the clicklatency of the steelseries is almost 3 times higher than the razer mouse. how is the feel of the aerox 5 wireless compared to the basilisk v3 pro? keep up the quality content!
Hello, do you happen to know the lowest LOD on this mouse? Thanks for the review!
Hello! Nice reviews!
Do you know if there's a mouse, in Deathadder-fashion (rather slim) but with multiple EASILY REACHABLE thumb buttons (4 or so). For MOBAs.
This video is not that recent, but I was curious how crisp of a click it had, I have a Rival 5 and the feel of the click is one of my only gripes
The top button is a bit weird i agree. Could have been 2 buttons as well and 8 wouldn't mind 2 buttons on top of left click
Does anyone know if the default behaviour allows steam input to detect and asign the buttons on this and the Aerox 9? If so I might go for it despite the lack of linux support, unless someone can point me to something good that does anyway.
Yes it's extremely good mau5, agree about the flicky switch. It's kinda weird, but you can completely ignore it . These things are always one or none left at the best buy.
Try some ceramic skates on it, it moves
Beautifully like a figure skater on ice, you should be able to spin it in a circle like a top like you were trying to do.
Gonna disagree about roccat Kone, burst pro air better, optical switches
Do you have a link for Aerox 5 ceramic skates? I can't find any
Do you recommend the aerox 5? I have the Logitech g502 and I use the dpi button for building in Fortnite, is it good on aerox 5?
Would have been nice if it was lighter, I main a Kone pro air because I love the shape and that has no holes and is 73-4g. This is only other wireless option with a similar shape to the KPA
What about lift off distance? That’s the only thing I seriously hate about my current Aerox 3 wired model. It’s really annoying to see fps camera going random directions for a while only because you repositioning the mouse back to the carpet.
It is the best mouse with multiple buttons. I live mine. Not a fan of the numbered version tho. Bout time companys make competitive mice with more buttons 2
isnt enough
It feels too big for fingertip grip which I normally use. The two upper side-buttons is almost unusable. The side/down-click on the top side button is somewhat decent, but I can't upclick without the entire mouse lifting. I have to use a firm palm grip or pinch the entire mouse to use the up-click. If I pinch it wrong I left-click at the same time. Could change the dpi-button with that one. I'd think I'd rather prefer the two upper side buttons to also be normal buttons. The steelseries engine lacks the ability to change buttons to side scroll/ horizontal scroll, which is a real bummer. The scroll wheel feels very nice and silent, maybe a bit mushy but it's preferable to many of the obnoxious clicky wheels I'm used to. Bought some razer universal grip tape and put all over it to make it easier to hold with my puny fingertip grip. Bluetooth in addition to 2,5GHz dongle and wired option was surprisingly nice to have. The 2,5GHz dongle itself seems much larger than necessary.
I realise I have yet to find a mouse I find to be perfect. I'd think I would love to have a razer viper mini with 4-6 buttons on the left side. Four on the side and two extra on the left click. In addition to sidescroll. Like a Logitech G502 mini.
Btw, the side button with up and down is useful for fast-scrolling pages. I use it for software development and it is very good for that. I would assume someone working with larger documents often could benefit from that as well
👍🏼
So glad I seen this as I almost bought it but that up down button is just silly so I might grab the 3 model
Stellar review. I’ll sub regardless, even though I was interested in that one specific mouse
Speaking of.. Have you tried Rival 600? It’s my current driver, and I’m torn between Aerox 5 and Chakram X
Both expensive, both for larger hands, but the design and weight is very different
I'm afraid I haven't tried the Rival mice. I really like the Aerox 5 though out of those two.
@@TheProvokedPrawn I was leaning into Aerox too, but mainly because there is little coverage of Chakram X, and I sadly can’t just go out & try them in my palm.
Thanks for the recommendation, and I’ll repeat myself, a wonderful review. Great job!
@@Glossah thank you Glossah. Appreciate you.
Did you buy any of them yet? I own a Rival 600 and I gave an oath to never buy a SteelSeries product ever again coz of the poor service in my country, but aerox 5 is a wonderful mouse, especially for me that use the front button on Rival 600 which means that my grip is weird and I can make use of all the buttons (3 side-buttons in R600, 4 in aerox 5)
wireless i experience lag or input delay with my mouse any help with this?
So I think I've devolved to like smaller lighter mice like this but I still want a button layout like the g502. Very interesting
I got mine today and I really like it. The buttons feel cheap though. The primary buttons aren't my favorite feeling buttons, but they're really quick to press and release which I love. Coming from a G502 Lightspeed, it feels like a downgrade, but my performance in Valorant seems a bit better.
reading your comment feels like your reading my mind. I got mine today and just moved from a G502, definitely feels like a downgrade. The software only lets you change DPI in increments of 100, and the lighting isn't changing to my settings. Feels very cheap. About to give it a try on Valorant, hopefully it feels good enough to justify my purchase.
All lightweight mice feel that way because they've been hollowed out. Moving from the G502 is a massive weight drop. This is a great mouse though so I think you'll get on with it.
I have g305, keep it or get this steelseries
Pls make the review on the dereu butterfly gaming mouse
Yo all these pc experts out there, is this mouse / the wired one Rgb compatible with Asus tuf z790? Will the rgb able to sync on the Asus armory crate plz n thank you
is this mouse suitable for palm/claw grip?
I got aerox 5 for my b-day and yeah it’s really good to use. Had to give up my g502 and powerplay for it.
What is it like losing buttons and tilt scroll. Im so conflicted
@@singsbadly it’s tough for sure but I’ll manage. Now if Logitech offers super light mouse with tilt scrolling and power play compatible I’ll be all over it ( they got two of my requirements already, add the tilt scroll on the next refresh of pro wireless x)
I'm giving up my g502 for it I think. As I'm in the same boat 5 months later what do you think?
@@zandydandy4642 at this moment in time. I think there are better mouse than this one. I my self had move on from it.
It's Ultralight, a very lightweight mouse.
Steelseries: it's 74g
I just got his mouse, but the wired version. However, I have noticed for some reason it just stop working on its own, any idea to any solutions?
That happened to me but on a corsair mouse and it just turned out to be faulty
The top button is made so you won't accidentally click the other buttons below it.
Does it work with MacOS and Silicon chips?
what is the name of the game that was shown in the video?
The size it perfect
how are the clicks light or heavy?
Does this mouse works with the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Wireless 60 percent keyboard? May sound like a dumb question lol
Fan you use both at the same time? Yes.
I bought it a month ago and the battery discharges very quickly, it does not last more than 24 hours and it is not very precise, unlike others.
The only good thing is that it has several buttons and the side works incredible. But for FPS I don't recommend it.
Yours must be faulty, I bought mine over a month ago and at full charge it can last a good 3 or 4 days
steelseries wipes the floor with laptop keyboards and headsets.
but they seen to introduce strange layouts and odd choices in the mice and keyboard area though.
is model o better for you?
I have a Corsair ironclaw but I just got a steal series keyboard and I want to buy a steal series mouse
This or deathadder v3 pro / basilisk v3 pro?
My Gpro is coming close to needing replaced. I was thinking about trying this out. I mainly play Valorant.
Aerox 5 is great.
I have aerox 3 ( wireless ) but in future maybe I gonna buy aerox 5 ( if it's gonna be available and worth ) + I use palm grip
might be to big for you if you need a palm grip, perhaps you can test it in an electronics store, I tested it today and use a claw grip, loved the feel of this mouse it reminds me of the rival series and kinda in between of a sensei 10 and sensei 310, which is where I am changing from, the sensei 310 served me well but I prefer the sensei 10, took me long to get used to the sensei 310 as it has a thick butt.
Will the software recognize the mouse if it's not connected by wire ?
You can use the software in wireless mode
Aerox 5 vs Kone XP?
If only they made without holes version of this mouse
Duct tape
is this mouse Left-handed/ ambidextrous
I have a question: Does the up and down switch get in the way while using the side buttons?
Depends on how big your thumb is, for me it’s fine but if you got fat thumbs then you might be flicking it up by accident
I got the Mouse too its a amazing mouse the porblem is that i cant connect it with the steelsereis app on mac, on windows 9 it works somehow, and if i go faster with my mouse my sensy is also going up can someone help me?
and sorry for my english XD
Windows 9?😂😂😂😂
@@Rafal.L sorry windows 10 obviously 😅
Does does the middle wheel tilt left to right?
Nope
Sorry to hijack, does anyone here have the Aerox 3 2022, and have found that the battery on it is really bad?
Have you adjusted the battery saving settings in SteelSeries GG? I did find it worse than the original Aerox 3 but not "bad" but I suppose "really bad" is subjective.
@@TheProvokedPrawn I used 50% rgb brightness and got around 40 hours out of it, which is half of what's advertised :/
I charge mine once a week, Saturday to Saturday. I work from home and use the mouse all day everyday. So I’d say that the battery is not an issue at all. Although I did turn off RGB on mine, that’s probably extended the battery a bit.
@@obliviondust2719 The battery life is honestly pretty decent when the RGB is turned off. It's just kinda sad having payed for RGB, that weighs down the device, only to have it turned off the entire time. Thanks though, I appreciate the reply!
you sound so much like meoni! :O
Maybe they sound like me?
Would you say the shape is almost the same as the g502?
Not even close. I hate the g502 shape with a passion and love the aerox 5. Totally diff ball game. Also Logitech use trash tier switches I cracked open 6 recent logi gaming mice and they ALL had shitty double clicking omrons, the only two good omrons are the Japanese made and the optical
@@christofferredfielfd1758 I have a g502 and I like the mouse, it's been working fine for a year now, I just want a lighter mouse and I'm thinking of getting a aerox 5 but the wired version
Im seriously confused on how you connect 2.4 Ghz
Thanks for the feedback. The small usb dongle plugs into your pc. If you don't have a usb c port, then you use the usb a to usb c cable and the adapter. Hope that helps.
@@TheProvokedPrawn thank you so much
Wish they just included a nano receiver, even with a C adapter would still be way smaller than that chunky dongle and adapter brick.
what if u don’t have a usb c port?
The adapter will sort you out.
I was skeptical to click on your video at first, because I didn't recognize you. But a man with that kind of voice, how would you be untrustworthy?
lol Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe! :)
I love everything about the mouse. But $140? I’ll pass.
For the algo
It makes me sad that so few mice come in left handed versions anymore, I use a Logitech G300s for the simple reason it's one of the few decent mice that doesn't have awkwardly placed buttons that makes it 'non ambidexterous'' for a lefty.
Former lefty mouse user and left dominant life. Took me 22 years to come to the realization I was taught wrong in grade school and I took a month straight force learning using my right hand and boy am I glad I did because I’ll never go back. Highly suggest the same my friend it’s just too difficult for no reason to use the left. Dominant hands don’t play a key role in computer use or gaming really as it’s all an acquired skill. Maybe you will share the joy I have found by switching. Cheers
wireless mouse = no no
They have a wired version
