She was so sophisticated, all her songs written by Burt Bacharach in the sixties were phenomenal, like Alfie, and Do you Know the Way to San Jose?, then her comeback in the late seventies with this song, for one, and Then Came You, and A House is not a Home. Just exquisite styling, range, quality, and professionalism every second of the way. One of The Greats,
many of us almost missed her until you happen upon just one accidental chance listen or hear .then the frantic search to identify and locate, the rest becomes history. .... she is one gift of our time.....
She won a Grammy for this song. Many, many hits. I saw her years ago at Wolftrap with Burt Bacharach. One of the best concerts I have ever attended. I met her and Burt afterwards.
Dionne Warwick...she's the best. That's why Luther loved her so. She is after all Whitney Houstons cousin. Most of her songs were written and composed by Hal David and Burt Bacherach that both said when they write their songs they do so with Dionne in mind.
Dionne began her career in 1962. She was a sensation. I saw her a decade later in London at the Palladium. The only other black American singer on television in the 60’s and her only competition was Diannah Carroll - and she was not in Dionne’s class at all - she was pure White cabaret whereas Dionne stayed true to her gospel and R&B roots and their career paths speak for themselves.
She killed me from the first day I heard her in the 70s. Her extraordinary voice, due to its sweet vibrato and powerful vocal range, is something indescribable and you just have to know how to enjoy it. Greetings from Chile.
And what most people don't realize is Dionne is 50yrs old singing like this here...past her "prime"...she is a talent beyond words...the vocal ability, styling and delivery is out of this world..just amazing!
You yeah! Dionne knows how to do it! She be flying up in the sky with them live vocals. I caught a few live videos of Dionne way back when, had my jaws dropping to da floor! and so effortlessly!
RIGHT!!! That's me right now. WTF didn't I know this about her? I feel like I wasn't as open as I thought I was. I have learned so much doing this channel about so many artist. That Dionne is a QUEEN.
Young man check out Ms. Warwick's rendition of "All In Love Is Fair" 1975 written by Stevie Wonder she is absolutely incredible. Ms. Warwick has a degree in music from Hart College and possibly a master's degree as well. KENNEDY CENTER HONORS for the legendary, iconic and beautiful MS. DIONNE WARWICK!
The more I see these old clips of Dionne the more I see how Whitney just emulated her with the mic keeping time and the shoulders going up …incredible family incredible talents
She keeps that part of her voice under wraps ;) Most people think she is just this kind of softer, almost croaky kind of singer. But then when she does tracks like this she pulls out this pure, powerful belting voice that surprises everyone. This isn't even her most impressive live version of that track - she has some from the 80s that are amazing and would give Whitney a run for her money! Those pipes do run in the family indeed.
The woman is a vocal legend. She did that. Completely took my surprise! Dionne is one of my new favorite artist to do reactions on. I can not wait to hear more from her. WOW.
Sorry not sorry Whitney is good, but Ms. Phenomenal, period!! MS. Dionne does not give Whitney a run for nothing. Ms. Dionne is in a class by herself. Whitney learned alot from Ms. Dionne. My reply is stated with nothing but love for both of them.
You should try to do the version of this that she did on the Count Basie tribute special. Or her MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF from her 1979 HBO special. So many great performances she has given us over the years. Thanks for sharing your opinions on this and all of the others you have done.
I know! I honestly feel like I did too. I am finally starting to realize that I did not know a lot of these artist like I thought I did. I had no idea Dionne good sing like that. I am truly shook. Now, I can not believe I never hear people name Dionne as one of the greatest singers. I'm sure I haven't even seen the best of her yet.
@@awordfrompresidentpat1985 I think cause people around our age (Im 34) only Dionne of The 90s and beyond. But in her Prime and after a force to be reckoned with. Plus she has a Masters in music
Yes, she did. The entire Drinkard family is enormously talented! Cissy, Whitney's mom and Lee, Dionne's mom are sisters, and were born with the last name Drinkard.
Lol.. Patrick you were just a lil bitty baby so we forgive you, you should check out Ms Warwick singing this in the 80s or when she, Ms LaBelle and Ms Knight did Sisters in the name of Love.. Ms Warwick especially in her hey day was the premier female vocalist and on the level of Barbra Streisand. This music industry and unfortunately our Black community forgets too much of our Legends or wants to cancel them.. there's so much more for you to discover.. Great job
IN THE TRUE BONAFIDE NAME OF MUSIC.......DIONNE IS ONE OF OUR LIFETIME'S HEROS.......ALL YOU OTHER APPLICANTS WISH YOU COULD SING LIKE HER.........FAT CHANCE !!!!
She has an incredible library of music. Hit after hit after hit. This one was recorded in 1979.You should check out 'There's A Long Road Ahead Of Us" from her 1981 Greatest hits album.
Wjitney has said over amd over that she modeled her singing style after Dionne. But you can clearly see that her stage mannerisms after her cousin Dionne also. Some believe shes actually Whitney's mother as she looks more like Dionne amd her voice if more loke Dionnes that Cissy. The power, range, agility. Different tone but the other.
If you like this one, then you'll really love this one: m.ua-cam.com/video/3rzVYXeEKsc/v-deo.html. "I'll Never Love This Way Again" is the second song. Don't skip the first song though--it contains probably her longest sustained note on the web!
Hey, Patrick check out her In the Stone by Earth, Wind, and Fire, and the original version of No One in the world by Anita Baker, with no backup singers.
New subscriber here mate. I really like your mellow character. She's a stunning talent. Love your reactions. Would love you to react to David Bowie 'Where are we now'?
Hey Prez, there's an NBC tv special from 1985 called "Sisters In the Name Of Love". The sisters are Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and DIONNE WARWICK. You MUST see the whole thing. It will give perspective on all 3, and you get to hear them individually and together. I'm sure it's somewhere on UA-cam.
Right...when they sing somewhere, everyone loves Patti but you can here dionne soar right above her...listen closely...Patti's loud but dionne shows her great musicality
Amazing song. I love DIONNE WARWICK
She's definitely one of the all-time greatest. She's my favorite!
50 years old and 3+ decades of smoking here and she still sounds amazing. Living legend

Auntie Dion got the pipes! She normally doesn’t belt but she was in her bag on this night 💅🏽 masterclass vocalist!
She used to belt in a lot of her songs in the 80s
Dionne always takes us to school you better ask someone!!!
It runs in the family!!! Now we know where Whitney got it from!!!
She is brilliant. One of my favorite female song stylist of all time!
She is one of greats of R&B

Fabulous! Not an original thing to say but the family ressemblance with her cousin Whitney Houston is striking...

Dionne is only second to Aretha in chart topping hits.
Dionne is a treasure! Check her live performances singing Yours and Will. You Still Love Me Tomorrow both at her 1983 concert. Peace and blessings!
One of my favorites
