The one person method for mounting the mirrors is pretty simple. Two short cords of rope with a knot on one the end. Put them through the outer bracket holes. Thread them through the back side of the plate and then through the door. You can pull the ropes tight and then start the center screw mounting the mirror from the outside. then add an extra screw one at a time. About a 3-minute job.

Back in 67 I bought a new C10, I forgot the mirror arm was color matched to the body. Back then I had what was a real plan Jane, straight 6, deluxe heater, heavy duty clutch (with three on the tree) and rear bumper (rear bumper was an option back then)....oh, no spare tire. The truck only came with a side mirror on the drivers door, also, no seat belts.....a rope worked just fine. lol One other thing, the out the door price was $1,750. Thanks for sharing, peace out.

funny you take time to paint the mirror, why not paint the mounting bracket....Look even better..
If you just bend a "L" on one leg of a cotter pin, you have a puller for the clips on the door handle and
the window crank...Put clip in the slot, put handle on stud, slight tap will put in back on!!! Enjoyed your video's, thanks jeff

The water coming in can be a source for rust on the inside brackets. Using a butyl tape found in the HVAC department of home improvement centers, or seam sealer will work. Eastwood sells as well but it seals the screw holes to prevent water intrusion even with outside gasket that cracks after 2-3 years of sun. I have a habit of anti-seize on screws, bolts and most fasteners as some rust away to less than half of original bolt thickness. I have seen way too much bad in 38+ years of working on vehicles.
My son bought a 67 C10 Longbed a few years ago for a lawn mowing business but as I welded holes, rusted spots and fixed some engine stuff plus everything electrical, he changed his mind and gave me the truck. It took me back to age 14 when I purchased a 65 C10 Apache shortbed from a construction company for $150. It was used to provide fuel & oil to field equipment and the wood floor was soaked in used motor oil & diesel fuel to never rot or decay with old growth southern pine standard.
The long bed 67 became mine, but as a retired ASE Master Tech, I am updating over time to many features including a 5.3L Tahoe engine w/over-drive automatic I had already bench built + many extras for a daily driver. My question is this the OEM location for those OEM mirror brackets? My mirrors and rear window are aftermarket and soo wrong. Does the top end up flush with the doors body line?
    Thanks, liked & subscribed!

Whoa! Cool story. Sounds like you may have had a small rear window '67 which was standard in that year. Panoramic cab (big back window) was the option in that year and more unique. Seems like a lot of work but glad you got it the way you want it. That's what it's all about.

@@UNITEDBYTRUCKS A lot of work, but came with "Camper" type bolt-in window & silicone sealant and had to go. Got saw and 4 batteries, cut outside first, then inside. Drilled each spot weld, cleaned, cold galvanized, pneumatic flange tool on truck, measure 100 times off factory notches, plug weld to start, then stitched both entire panels. Started with metal filler then finished with Rage Gold. Looks like it came with it factory, but would not do it again. Too hard! Made plates w/welded nuts, tacked wire and ran inside "B" pillar over door windows and added GM pull handles too. Lots of tricks.
Was this the factory location for the mirrors on your project? It looked like it.
Not everyone has 4 tools boxes after retirement, but spent $3 on a lisle window clip tool in 1968, when everything had front drums, most had oil bath air cleaners and few had power windows. The clip come right off and have small part boxes with standard and import clips by the hand fulls. Yep, two sizes!
I think the 65's had a wrap-a-round rear window option, but small was standard in 67 with large an option, then standard in 68 and up with side markers. I work in a small town 25 miles from the city, so mostly farmers.
Today, I can't by fuel without having someone talk to me for 1/2 hour about their families C10. I think everyone had one once, after all, they are built like tractors with cabs on them. What else could you buy that had 2 plates on a stick transmission for two PTO's. Flat bed with dump box and spray pump for applying liquid product in fields.

My only tip on removing the door handle clip is to use a shop rag. Slide the rag behind the handle and the clip gets stuck on the fibers of the rag. Pops it right out and no risk of scratching anything.

    • @UNITEDBYTRUCKS
      @UNITEDBYTRUCKS  5 років тому +2

I've actually tried that before and that honestly never works for me. The only time it has is when I actually got the clip loose first. I'm gonna give that another go.

good call on the no faux patina, it matched great with the wheels and the rest of the build. just my personal opinion Never Ever faux patina (or fake mother natures paint work) it never looks quite right and never looks as good as she can, so don't even try, leave the patina up to mother nature. she dose it the best so don't insult her by trying to attempt it your self. You wouldn't have a truck pro top notch ten's of thousands of dollar paint job done on your truck and then decide to pinstripe it yourself, having laid 0, zip, Nada pinstripes down yourself ever, right? keep'um clean keep'um simple and most of all keep'um or get'um down in the weeds and drive them as they were meant to be driven. oh ya keep smiling folks.

Thanks for joining the United By Trucks Community! Hope you'll stick around and watch some of our other videos (you can skip the first 3. Whew! Brutal!). But, to your question about patina, I'm a big believer in a 5 step process to preserve and protect patina/original paint. 1) if there is any surface rust, you want to CLR those spots or the entire vehicle and use a green scotch write 2) wash the truck with a good wash like Meguiars or your choice 3) Buff the truck using a good cleaner wax like 3M or Ardex 600 4) Continue buffing with a good swirl polish remover and 5) buff the truck with a good finishing compound. Unfortunately, that's a lot of work up front, but once you do it once you can just maintain with a good wash and wax occasionally. I do not advocate any kind of clear coat. At all. No matter the finish. The truck is only original once and this keeps the paint protected and provides a beautiful finish. Of note, I haven't done this to my green truck yet, so don't use that as an example.
