I bought a year end 2016 Canyon diesel. 11,000 off the list price. My son bought a Colorado 3.6 v6 gas. We raced it, towed with it and compared the 2. Both are what we wanted. Just returned from South Carolina with my diesel and it earned 31.5 mpg running at 75 mph. My son's truck earned 28.2 mpg. Both are great. He bought his for 36000. We both have full size trucks. His gas powered one gets 18mpg. Mine is a 2500 Silverado diesel and it gets 21 mpg. We love our trucks and my 14 vette gets 30 mpg on the highway. It also turned 3.3 seconds in the 60 foot stretch at the local 1/8 mile drag strip. GM has done a nice job on all these vehicles.
Glad to see GM building something that actually competes with Toyota and Honda. The old canyon/colorado didn't even come close. I really appreciate your product knowlege Sofyan, Always a class A review with you.
The narrative structure of this review: "Here's a nice touch, and here's some cheap GM plastic, here's another nice touch, and here's another place GM cheaped out..." :)
I always enjoy your videos, as they are typically informative and unbiased (for the most part). My only constructive criticism would be regarding filming the interior of the vehicle. It's nice that you thought enough to give a "Driver's point of view"; however, the camera changes views (looking around) too quickly at times making it hard for the viewer to follow or focus. It's like watching an episode of "COPS" when they are running someone down on foot. Perhaps mounting a camera in opposite sides of the cabin so we can see you pointing to things. Just a suggestion, but keep on "truckin" cause you do great!
If you go price a comparable full size you'll quickly realize they are much more than this. A basic Texas Edition full sized will run $40k and doesn't have neat the features but does have a V8. Unfortunately vehicles have gotten out of control in pricing these days.
"No one goes for 2 wheel drive." You should have a look down in the southern states. Most trucks sold here are 2 wheel drive because 4 wheel drive is almost never needed. Other than that, nice and informative review.
Just picked up a 2017 SLT with the diesel engine. Get about 23 MPG, same as my 2016 Chevy Impala I traded it in for. Honestly I love the truck. My local dealership was getting rid of the 17s for the 18s and I got it 11 grand off the sticker. I have owned an F250, multiple F150s and a BMW and the Impala. I love this truck and would recommend it to anyone. The back seats leave a bit to be desired in the leg space but it is totally fine for short jaunts around town. Decent bed space and is a joy to drive. Is it perfect, no. But it fits my needs and again, really fun to drive. Does pretty well off road too. I took it pretty serious sand dune off roading already. I honestly plan to turn this into an overland rig. I think it was a good buy.
I love Redline Reviews... where else you going to find out about Topping Options, GMC Bongs, and Bey Calves? That's what I thought! Onward to 300k subscribers....
Agree 100 percent they need the grab handle by the door to assist getting in. I have it on my 2006 Pathfinder LE and use it both on driver side and passenger side...
People keep comparing them with a full size truck, well try to find a Sierra for the same price with those options. You'd be looking at 55k to 60k. Either way, the Canyon isn't lacking compared to the full size truck. They drive so much better and are a lot easier to park, turn, etc.
Very good thorough review. I listen to almost all the new reviews provided. Just out of curiosity; will redline do a review of a lincoln mkc anytime soon?
Nice review! But the complaint of the excessive driver aids makes me nauseous... Especially that adaptive cruise control quip. Basic cc is all you need... If the people around you wanted you to "tag along" with them, you'd be in the same vehicle as them. Just my opinion. Otherwise, if I were shopping for a midsize I'd definitely check this one out! 👍🏾
In the market for midsize truck so fit in my Townhouse garge vs Full size will not. Seems the Honda Ridgeline give you more for your buck for msrp of $43,500 . I am leaning toward the Honda with all there tech & LED lights . Maybe get black edition if I am up to the task to keep a black truck clean. Hopefully the USA 2018 Ridgeline will add ventilated front seats like 2017 Canadian version already has. That will put me way over top and buy the Honda. Great reviews! Keep up the good work.
I love the look of this truck, but for the price the Ridgeline is more spacious inside, has better tech, sunroof, power sliding rear window, and etc. I drove the GMC and Ridgeline the same day at a local car show. I expected this truck to be my favorite but after feeling the spacious interior and build quality of Honda I walked away feeling the Ridgeline was overall a better quality vehicle.
I feel like GM wanted the Canyon and the Colorado to have a truck like feel to it, so that's why they kept the regular old school key and some other things
There was a time between 2010-2015 when it was GM engineers that ruled in regards to design and function. But I fear with simple items like the omission of push-button start or LED lights front and back, the bean counters are making themselves known once again. Hmm...the last times the bean counters 'designed' a vehicle, imports were more in favor by the customer then domestics.
With Incentives and Rebates GM actually has lower out the door prices on the Silverado/Sierra than these. A loaded up Silverado LTZ is out the door under $40k right now with an MSRP of $55k.
Tj Taylor For some people including myself, a midsize truck is much better for daily uses than a full size. And besides, you don't have to be forced to get a Denali, you can always go for a basic or mid-level trim.
Tj Taylor a full size will not fit in my garge and harder to park and drive. Have no kids and do not need a full size. I rather pay the premium of a little smaller then full size to have it fit in garge and drive and handle better.
Nice but, definitely overpriced. And to forget led/hid lights, plus a grab handle.... not going to spend 40-50,000 for a truck without led headlights. Honestly the full size is more bang for your buck.
Personally I like the shifters (I don't know the proper term) that are in the center console, HOWEVER, I think on a trunk it is out of place, and I know many truck buyers feel the same.
Will this size be able to fit in a home garage? Many pickups are just to long to easily fit in a average home's garage. Not talking about million dollar home.
11:21 Frontier still has top torque rating from the VQ40 at 280 lb ft Feels like you're still paying a lot for the Denali name when you're lacking quite a bit of features compared to other vehicles at it's price range. I think a Colorado LT Z71 would do better.
Why won't truck makers put tie down hooks in the floor of the truck bed ?? For years I've been using the trailer hitch with a strap over the tailgate to tie down plywood, drywall etc.Seems like a simple thing to do !
fillup316 but you’d look very comical towing a 7,000 trailer with the Hyundai! As far as headlights go the light do a pretty good job, with plenty of aftermarket choices. In my Colorado Z71,4x4, V6 Ext Cab I’ve added some great Piaa replacement bulbs that are fantastic! That only took under an hour to do.
Thanks. Your videos get better and better, with more showing the vehicle and not just sitting talking with the camera on your handsome face. (Just teasing, not being sarcastic.) I predict the 2018 will have pushbutton start, a panoramic sunroof, and all the safety tech like BSM, RCTA, etc. Thanks for all.
Unless you have strict space requirements in your garage, there is no reason to pick this over a full size. With discounts on full sized trucks up to $14,000, you are spending only marginally more for a similarly equipped full size. And you are only getting a small fuel economy penalty. Fords 2.7 ecoboost gets 18+ in the city and 26 on the highway, which already beats this "small truck". I'd be shocked if GM's 2.7 didn't get the same mileage. And at that point, the canyon/colorado trucks are obsolete.
I see several comments indicating that these trucks are junk. Is this true? Is there any proof? Where can I find info from a reputable source confirming these trucks are problematic or junky? Just curious. Considering buying one and would like to know if they truly are shitty.
Great review, Sofyan! This was very DETAILED, and informative! I cannot wait until I can get my hands on an Colorado/Canyon to put through my full review tests, as well! Keep up the great work, Sofyan! 👍🏽 -DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
More preowned canyon Denalis out there than zr2's. I've found quiet a few 2017 canyon denalis for under $35k with low miles. Plus the cooled seats is a lifesaver anywhere Virginia south.
I hear you the ZR2 is super cool and capable, but reality is 99.9% of "trucks" are on the road 99.9% of the time so for that more common application Denali is a better choice for many.
Denali badges but SLT options. A top of the line model without keyless start is odd in this day and age but not a deal breaker. However, the idea that you'd pay this much for a truck that doesn't even have dual zone climate control is laughable. Dual zone is close to standard on most mid-range vehicles, how it isn't included at this price point is seems like a huge omission. I used to have a 2006 SLT Envoy and other than ten years of newer electronics it had better standard features than this (climate control, moon roof, rain sense wipers, etc)
if you want a sporty drive feel like buy the new ridgeline cause its pretty mucj a honda odyssey minivan underneath? ..im confused. in your hinda rideline review you praised the vtech and said it felt like driving an accord sport, now it resembles a odyssey minivan that its considered sporty?
I'm 100% against push button start....ALTHOUGH at this trim I can see how most people would want it. I think it's awesome it doesn't have it but I understand some buyers would like it only at this trim though. Idk why that bothers you so much Sofyan, it's just a key or just a button but to each their own.
If the push button allows you to "tap" the button and begin to buckle your seatbelt while the vehicle starts, it saves time. If you have to press and hold the button, it's pointless. I had a 2012 VW CC with a dash inserted fob (no button, no key). You pushed it in, and it cranked on its own. My 2017 VW Tiguan with push button, you have to hold your finger on the button until it turns over...no different than a key.
05Forenza Some companies have both of those, push and it starts or pushing and holding until it starts. I'd rather have a key regardless because I don't lose my keys, I don't need all that "technology advanced" stuff, I like simple. If it's simple and breaks it's gonna be simple to fix.
I feel like those that buy a truck for it’s intended purpose don’t care about push button start or LED everything. I for one am not a fan of push button that’s on everything nowadays...it’s great until that battery in the remote dies or when the signal fails. I’ve had several friends learn this the hard way. Lack of use on the second remote meant a dead battery when the battery on their primary remote died. I prefer a key.
Im glad they have stuck with the key ignition and door lock. Im really not a fan of that keyless stuff. just more junk to break after years and years of use.
GM used to offer trucks from the compact S-10 then a big jump to the Silverado (both models had extended cab versions, big engines, the "S-10 EXTREME" etc.). They did away with the S-10 years ago. This is the "smallest" GM currently offers. Ford is resurrecting their small-size pickup (the Ranger), but not for a couple more years. After that maybe GM will revive the S10 line...
The product and feature planning folks at GM need to rethink their methodology; not sure what logic they use for things like: 1. No grab handles 2. Why only one seatback pocket? 3. Why use obviously cheap faux wood instead of using the good quality aluminum or alum-look trim. 4. Why create cup holders in the rear seatback arm rest that’s raised rather than flush. 5. Not having sunroof/moonroof at least as an option. ...just a few obvious examples regardless of trim that caused me to not buy this truck and ended up buying a full size truck even though I wanted to buy this Colorado/Canyon.
24/7 Gaming So far everyone who drove the LC500 has loved it like MotorTrend & Matt Farrah but for some reason I Know Redline is gonna look for something to complain about it since it's a Lexus/Toyota in his words.
Interior is GM old school lame and dated. A key in a slot in 2019? How lame is that? The interior shift console looks like it came from a a 2005 GMC Envoy. Wow. Unimpressed. If your not going to do a heavy off roading a Honda Ridgeline blows this away in every other aspect.
Too much plastic and cheapy feel to the interior. They can do much better. The exterior is perfectly handsome though. Perhaps the best thing about this Government Motors truck is the concept of a Midsize truck. That alone is the best feature and appeal.
People need to stop being crazy about push start and smart key access. It's something that is REALLY expensive to fix when it breaks and you're screwed if the battery dies. We have a lincoln mkx and the battery has died to many times and the spare key that it comes with can't even turn in the door handle. Ford crap I know but it seems to be a common occurrence.
I really don't like that he is comparing this to the Honda Ridgeline and that's car based and FWD, I understand it is in the truck market but the Ridgeline is at it's own level
The Ridgeline is based on the Honda Pilot. The Honda interior is better looking and much better materials. The Denali interior looks downright cheap. In terms of looks the Denali is better looking than the Ridgeline. The top of the line Ridgeline is price somewhat similar to the Denali. It's strictly a matter of taste.

I hate how GM cheaps out on the basics. LED/HID and keyless/push start. C'mon. My 20K Altima has that shit.
Your 20k altima is also a imported crap NASSAN
Idk, push button start is pretty freaking stupid, I wish my car had a key instead 😂
Yeah the denali package should be LED everything and keyless!!!
Just bought mine. Totally comfortable, quiet, great Bose sound system!
How is it still

No1 is buying a denali as a work truck, this thing is a mall crawler

just got mine Canyon SLT with duramax diesel -love it!
I like the sound of the engine
Thanks for the review Sofyan! Been waiting for this one for a while.
god the shifter is hideous. you'd expect more creativity for a 40k truck

I’m averaging 17 city but in highway trips never under 25, sometimes on flat ground as high as 27! In my 2016 Colorado Z71,4x4, V6 Ext Cab.

cant tow a boat with your fidgeline
Well the durmax version gets great fuel economy while towing
Ridgeline isn’t even a truck
Its like they just put a bed on a pilot or odyssey. unibody. The colorado/canyon is body on frame. a "REAL" 4x4
best gmc canyon review !!!

Crazy lease rates on this truck! My friend just got one for $290 a month no money down
Lol they quoted me 450 a month on a 36 month lease. Could of had a sierra for that.
What pisses me off the most is that Redline only has 270K Subs, should be at least a Million.
Honestly for the price and gas mileage you might as well go full size
With Incentives and Rebates GM actually has lower out the door prices on the Silverado/Sierra than these. A loaded up Silverado LTZ is out the door under $40k right now with an MSRP of $55k.

Chevy spent all their money on the Camaro..... Wait till the Ranger comes out. Hopefully GM will bring their A game with an updated version
I am not a pickup truck fan, but this is a model that I can respect, along with the Ford F-150 (because my best friend owns one).
Really good review. Appreciate it. How tall are you? You mentioned you’re short. Height would be good to know to gauge leg room. Thanks!
I think he said at one point he was 5'8 or 5'7.

Yes. It's under 18', most garages are 20' long.
Heated and cooled front seats? Are you sure about that??? Looks like it's heated only.
Awesome Review Of 2017 GMC Canyon. 😀
I'm surprised you didn't do the review in your Honda Ridgeline shirt
BEST midsize truck in the segment
Hey man! best reviewer out there can you do the chevy ss ?
11:21 Frontier still has top torque rating from the VQ40 at 280 lb ft
Feels like you're still paying a lot for the Denali name when you're lacking quite a bit of features compared to other vehicles at it's price range. I think a Colorado LT Z71 would do better.
Everyone take a shot every time he compares this to the ridgeline
You said it twice but the denali trim wasn't new last year, new for 2017 model year.
Why won't truck makers put tie down hooks in the floor of the truck bed ?? For years I've been using the trailer hitch with a strap over the tailgate to tie down plywood, drywall etc.Seems like a simple thing to do !
This guy is obsessed with the ridge line... a mini van truck for Japanese women
Since GM is knocking off over $10,000 off the Sierra/Silverado this truck isn't worth looking at. Only if #SizeMatters
no LED/HID headlights, no LED taillights. WTF you can get these features on Hyundai Elantra,
And if it's that important to you, you can get them for $500 or less aftermarket
this is a truck not a fuking sport car
Pedro Barraza LED headlights aren't just a sports car feature. It's a premium feature that a truck this expensive needs to help justify its price tag
fillup316 but you’d look very comical towing a 7,000 trailer with the Hyundai! As far as headlights go the light do a pretty good job, with plenty of aftermarket choices. In my Colorado Z71,4x4, V6 Ext Cab I’ve added some great Piaa replacement bulbs that are fantastic! That only took under an hour to do.
fillup316 but Elantras are for assclowns

motivatedbyhaters85 they aren’t
I just bought one and I love it. Buy with confidence!
what happened to the forest you used to film in?
Might as well hop in the big boy AT4

"The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
For $44,000 you can get a zr2 Colorado with leather interior and way more capability. Why anyone would buy this truck is beyond me.
because Zr2 is for offroading and a denali is luxury brand. Both expensive, but are for different needs
I think the Colorado has a way too euro design. The Canyon facade is in line with the rest of the brand.
More preowned canyon Denalis out there than zr2's. I've found quiet a few 2017 canyon denalis for under $35k with low miles. Plus the cooled seats is a lifesaver anywhere Virginia south.

Well if you drive the newest Odyssey, it literally feels like a bigger Accord, very car-like and sporty, for a minivan.
Redline Reviews .. after driving most of the mid size truck whichs your favorite for a daily?
Great Review Redline Reviews...I would just go with the Ridgeline in this category.
Cooled seats? Are you sure?
I am more smitten with the special edition off-road Chevy Colorado. Which Camouflage Emblems and Trim.
No push to start? That's weird for a Denali...
hi can u do a review for honda accord coupe 2007 please

Wanted to watch a review video on this truck, and got put off when you kept giving your opinion
Great review as usual
What makes this a Denali?
still waiting for the 2019 ranger, freakin ford sells'em to europe, mexico and AU, but not here, what a shame.
Im glad they have stuck with the key ignition and door lock. Im really not a fan of that keyless stuff. just more junk to break after years and years of use.
keyless is easy to hack !!
All cars are keyless when it comes to opening them
Raptor 450 let’s get rid of the A/C also, just more junk that will break after a couple of years.
Seems like You work for Honda
This is considered a "small truck"?? Wtf America
James Masters I know, it's great ain't it
GM used to offer trucks from the compact S-10 then a big jump to the Silverado (both models had extended cab versions, big engines, the "S-10 EXTREME" etc.). They did away with the S-10 years ago. This is the "smallest" GM currently offers. Ford is resurrecting their small-size pickup (the Ranger), but not for a couple more years. After that maybe GM will revive the S10 line...
No, midsize
Merica
James you sound like a Hummer hating, tree hugging Democrat.
The product and feature planning folks at GM need to rethink their methodology; not sure what logic they use for things like:
1. No grab handles
6. No storage under the rear bench.
7. Taillights are disgusting.
V6 gains only 3 HP more than the 4 banger? ??
mariano sagastegui I think he means 3 more HP vs. the outgoing 3.6 V6 engine and 6 speed transmission setup.
no push button start wtf
What redline top five video?????
It's not live yet! We'll have it online this weekend.
Redline Reviews Well isn't it kinda pointless to do that since you already have the review up....
Redline Reviews When are you getting the Lexus LC500 to trash it?
24/7 Gaming So far everyone who drove the LC500 has loved it like MotorTrend & Matt Farrah but for some reason I Know Redline is gonna look for something to complain about it since it's a Lexus/Toyota in his words.
Smooth Operator Lol. He did like the GSF though.
Price is ridic. The 4-cyl diesel is pushing $40k. None come with a sunroof!
All that hard plastic and no LED"s, fake wood for a Denali it's a big fuckin insult. Those trucks are not cheap to buy..!
Ignition keys is actually harder to steal than push button cars.
You're an idiot
No Leds on a top trim. smh.
My Tacoma TRD off road has dual climate control
I'd have a Ridgeline over this thing anytime.
This needs the 5.3 v8
can u do the volvo v90 or v60
How much did Honda pay for your advertisement?
Nice place to hold your iphone, sorry I'm a Samsung guy.
It's a joke. LG is where it's at
Sunroof!!!
Flashbacks to my GMC Jimmy 😿
Seven Corners by way of Leesburg Pike & Arlington Blvd./Route 50.
keep your hands on the steering wheel
I really don't like that he is comparing this to the Honda Ridgeline and that's car based and FWD, I understand it is in the truck market but the Ridgeline is at it's own level
No its not, its a city truck which all mid size truck compete in. Where the power is going doesn't change that.
Nissan has redesigned the frontier in other countries (Like Australia and South Africa) it's just badged as a Navara
