I’m so fed up with full size trucks nowadays, great to see GM is putting good effort into these smaller trucks.
These are so so so good to drive. I have a sierra in the driveway right now. It’s awesome. But the canyon is the move
Honestly, for what you pay you get the perfect amount of luxury for a very utilitarian vehicle. Midsize trucks rule
50k for a midsize is ridiculous let alone 80k for a 3500 diesel that's not even "fancy". I get inflation but its not THAT BAD for the automakers.
My father bought a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie for $27g back in peak recession time in 2008. Now a Ram 1500 Laramie goes for $70g+
3:54 "I'm gonna just put all my camera equipment in this waterproo- never mind"
I traded my Ford Maverick for the 2023 Canyon Denali so that I could pull my brand new Airstream. The engine is incredible. Pulls like a diesel. Plenty of truck for my 20ft Caravel and the truck fits in my garage when I’m done. They KILLED the interior too. Such a pleasant place to be.
How long have you had it? I have one on order and am wondering what owners think? Any issues sofar?
@@FlipzRugz420 it’s a beautiful truck and getting better. I got it at the end of May. I have had a few issues. Had to have the wireless charger replaced. Also, they didn’t hook the windshield wiper fluid lines up to the under body camera. The worst problem so far by far though is the trailer break controller needed service and they had to reflash it. Kept getting codes when I pulled the Airstream the first time.
@@andrewmeadville7057any major problems?, mine hopefully gets here in 1-2 months
You better hope the waiting room of your local mechanic is an even more comfortable place to be, because you're probably gonna be there a lot.
@@onfootbassin hahahaha. I don’t have the truck anymore. It was in the shop 3 of the 4 months that I owned it. I got rid of it in October.
GM has definitely stepped up their game on the interior department on this platform
I just got a '23 Z71 and the interior is better then the 2018 Civic I traded in. And that's actually saying a lot, loved that car.
What a great truck. 430 torque. That’s crazy out of a turbo 4. Thanks for the review
It’s a 2.7 liter,,same as 2.7 twin turbo V6 eco boost Ford Its a big 4
No, this is a 4cyl--- Ford's is a 6 cyl 2.7L@@jimmycline4778
I am the proud owner of a 2022 gmc canyon elevation. Owned it for about a year now and I absolutely love it. Super easy to park and super easy to carry around 200-300 pounds of tools and carry-alls around no problem. I get around 11.5L /100km with aggressive cooper discovery AT3 LT tires. Love it hope it lasts
Super Overview and Commentary. I really enjoyed this video over many other reviews. Love your honest input too!
I've had my new Denali Canyon for a month and a half...Sterling Grey Metallic....LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!
You absolutely need to buy one. I have watched hundreds of your reviews, and have never seen you this excited or seem so connected to a vehicle before. Match made in Heaven! Seems like the same energy as wedding day vibes, and no I cannot explain that haha.
I have a 3.5l ecoboost f150. And while i hate how quiet it is, i do love hearing those mini diesel-esque whistles.
I had a ZR2 on order and decided to get the Denali that we got in sooner. I am so glad I did I love it. Plus I don’t need the extra 1 inch clearance. The interior is soooo much nicer. I came from an AMG GLB 35 and im not missing it. I love this truck. I have had zero issues personally and I think its comfy enough. I see myself keeping this for a lonnngggg time if the truck allows haha. My only complaint, with the Bose the mirror circle adjuster on, you can hear it rattle with bass. That’s slightly annoying. The wireless charging on my iPhone works barely. It’s spotty.
What was the term length of your financing?
“If the truck allows” is the key words here. Won’t last you 100,000 miles before something major happens.
@@dawfurby you could say that about literally any vehicle you idiot. Good one.
Great unbiased review, thx! I grew up in MA on same roads, felt at home watching your review, LOL. Nicely done!
its mind boggling how far trucks have came in 20yrs
I love that gauge cluster screen. Wish I had that in my Colorado LT
I really, really like the new Canyon and Colorado. Great review!
But seriously, what's up with the reflector looking thingies on the fenders? I mean, who at GM design looks at a truck and says, "you know what truck people want? Yellow reflector things on the fenders." And who are the co-workers who looked up in wonder and said "Yeah, absolutely, yellow reflectors on the fenders, you're a genius Bob!"
Hahahahahahahahahaha....
It’s lovely, I want 1 so badly!Definitely the best looking midsizer by a long shot!
Gorgeous truck. If I was in the market to buy a mid size truck, it would probably be the Canyon although that brand new Tacoma is looking gorgeous as well.
That interior looks like a nice place to be in
Lol… "hear that turbo whistle" absolutely not at 20mph but with all 4 windows down the wind noise was excellent.
That door closing sounds like my 20 years old car.
Ah yes tedward time
You may have convinced me to at least test drive one. I've never had a truck before, but maybe the time has come.
I saw a Colorado WT today and it looks a bit weird to me, but I like it!
Absolutely want to thank you for your review, I put in my order for a GMC 2024 Canyon Denali in January and have not heard anything from the dealership or GM, I’ve looked online for any dealership in California that may have one?
Your thoughts driving this vs the Frontier?
Does it have heads up display or was that glare from the window. Looks like mph dead center on the windshield. Thanks for the video.
Yes that’s a heads up display
Which paint finish does it have? Nice color.
Would love to see you drive the Cadillac CT4V with this engine too!
I wish I could find one to buy. No dealers around have them and when they get one, they are already sold.
Does this vehicle have the brake hold feature? Haven’t been able to find anything about it.
Should’ve taken it on a canyon drive, opportunity missed 😂
The new Colorado/Canyons look great inside & out. Not having a headlight switch is dumb and I’d really worry about the GM reliability/longevity. I’ll wait a couple years and buy another new Tacoma. My 21 has been bulletproof.
It's not a huge deal if u leave it in auto though. Physical buttons would be nice to have
Tbh why ditch the 21? The 21 came standard with carplay/auto and a bunch of the new tech so you don't gain much that way and you end up stepping down from a NA v6 to a Turbo 4cyl. From the folks I hear who've driven the new 24 the turbo 4 cyl is less responsive than the v6 (though its solid once it gets going). The payload/tow doesn't change much, and the 21 is the only 3rd gen with no recalls. I guess if you just want something new, but Id wait much longer to REALLY test the longevity and see if its worth it imo.
@@mergenocide Good points. I’ll wait until 2025 at least. I want to see how the Hybrid Tacoma does and see if Honda puts out a new gen Ridgeline too, hopefully with actual ground clearance.
Amazing how they can get the shifter right, no dials or buttons there, and get something as simple as the headlights so wrong. I mean, yeah, most of the time I leave my selector on my F-150 in Auto and it works fine. But there are times when it's raining or just cloudy and I want headlights on and it would annoy me to no end to have to go through menus to turn them on.
I thought the "flashing of the headlights" was stilll a pull of the stick on the wipers?
That’s a high beam flash. Not on off
Big Altima energy baby!!!
Yea very nice. In the previous edition I like the Chevy styling, especially the ZR2. But this Gen? I like the GMC across the board. I can see us getting a AT4. With towing and connivence package. For a reasonable under $48k.
Awesome review!
Personally, I have a love-hate relationship with this new Canyon. It’s very nice, looks great, the L3B seems like a good engine for this, and it’s just a very nice improvement over the previous generation. On the other hand, it’s expensive and small. Only 1 bed length is a bummer, wish they offered a crew cab long bed. I priced out an Elevation and with the options I wanted, a similarly equipped Tundra was less than $5k more. A full size is so much more truck for not much more money.
Damn, the full size trucks dont even offer full size google maps on the gauge cluster. I wonder if they can add on to them via over the air updates.
I was thinking the same thing last week with the Sierra AT4X. Insanity that it doesn't have this display
This truck is a beauty. I really wanted one of these but the unknown reliability made me go for a 23' trd pro tacoma instead. Looking forward to seeing the feedback from owners and issues that pop up.
Bruh the engine itself has been around for years in the Sierra/Silverado 1500 they just put it in the new mid size truck 😂.
Looking at this truck, I currently have a ‘22 Sierra - love the truck but it’s massive.
How’s the tech? Glitchy? My Google map feature is not useable, it’s so glitchy. Great review.
I honestly prefer the tech in the canyon to the Sierra. The screen can lag a little but not a deal breaker. Usually only lags between changing layout which you wouldn't do very frequently. Not an excuse but its not infuriating haha
I love the heck out of this truck. I don’t think I could swing this though. Great job GM
Work some Overtime 🤪
You really do need to be more emotionally aware when you're in an SUV or truck. Because you're so high up, you begin to assume that everyone else has the same visibility as you do and you start to become impatient. Thus, hot headed. Be safe and patient out there guys.
You know what? GM did good with this Canyon/Colorado. They are legitimately trying and making some decent vehicles again.
WILL IT FIT IN A MIATA THO?
Very cool engine, very strong engine, very nice NM about the off-road.
Hey, great review... One critique though, when you were showing the back seat area with you sitting there, I wish you would have given your size (height/weight) for comparison and/or context... Thanks for the review..!
5’9” 125lbs
@@TedwardDrives I'm 5'10" and sadly quite a few lbs more, I really appreciate the response.
I have a 2017 Canyon with the 2.8 diesel and love it. I get 32 mpg and change my oil about 4,000 mile and have 96,000 miles on it. I would get a new one but the mileage is horibale with the new 2.7 gas engine in the Canyon.
I know diesel fuel runs about 50 cents/gallon higher than gasoline around here. Does the improved fuel economy of the diesel make up for that, or is it kind of a wash?
3:10 ~ Ha ha!
Would be nice if it came with a 6 way tailgate like the sierra
Nice video.
The headlight controls are a big miss.
Where does all that torque go? The Nissan Frontier has the same HP but half the torque and roughly gets the same time to 60. This should be in the low 5's with that kind of torque.
The Ruler is for Fishing 🎣
I think it's for measuring. Never fished with a ruler before but I guess you could.
The Altima 💀
I totally love this truck but that cheap plastic on the window trim drives me nuts
It’s weird but I 100% was gonna buy this truck,,,,I liked the Colorado Trail Boss better it looks beefier and better to me,,,,I payed over 10k less and still got a loaded Trail Boss, the guy that ordered it and backed out got allmost every option including cruise control, power seat, tow package, damped tail gate with stow and go,, 11k is huge to me,,,and I only owe 13k after huge trade in allowance plus 5k down on top of that,,it would have took me one maybe two years because of the economy to pay it off,now I’ll have it payed off by December,,,it made total sense to me and for 500 bucks I can get it flashed to same torque as thi Denali! I’m so glad I didn’t buy this truck,,,I HATE CHROME TOO, and those Denai wheels are ugly to me
You lucky duck 😭
Wish the made the interior one solid color
Why are companies shipping trucks without a trailer hitch 🙄
Hear that turbo whistle while he was going 20 mph.....nope
For the money it is going to have to be discounted if you want to compete with FORD.
Nah.... Lariat is $50,000+ & no HVAC in back & no cooling seats(that helps cool cab in Florida!!!, no HUD, no sunroof..... Yeah, Ranger has powerfold mirrors & power slide rear window. Smaller 4cyl I Ranger. And looks~~ Ranger --- blah, they could of done better!!!
Also, 2023 model with incandescent interior lighting? Lmao.
Just bought one and I love it
Any electrical issues with the screens blacking out yet?
@@rockeye That issue isn't an "electrical issue" really. Yes it is an issue with an electrical component but nothing that technically went wrong. It's caused by the over the air updates and it killing your battery when it loses cell reception while it's parked and not running. I have not had this issue yet but I also became aware of the potential issue and I installed a battery tender and I check the app on my phone that is connected to my vehicle. It looks like the over the air update was installed no issue on mine but I also have very good cellular reception where I live.
It may sound petty but whenever I have had a truck I use the heck out of the rear sliding window. GMC can’t add a power sliding window on their highest trim? That would have me choosing Toyota.
I use my Ridgline power window every time I drive it, agreed. Hopefully they will add to 2024
If only it had a supercruise option!
You give them too much credit on the headlights. Even Elon "we don't need no stinking buttons" Musk put headlight controls on the steering wheel.
It's no deal breaker, but it is ridiculous beyond being a pet peeve.
Canyon vs Tacoma?
New tacoma hasn't been driven yet..but definitely canyon over old taco. That thing is ancient.
This is a comparable truck to my 23 Nissan frontier. Not a fan of the 4 banger turbo but it’s got some healthy numbers. Frontiers start quite a lot lower however. Only paid 41k for mine with most of the SV options and a V6
Cool
@@TedwardDrives I am jealous of the cooled seats. Great Review Tom!
Don't understand why manufacturers are moving away from v6s, Nissan is the only one that seems to be thinking and I'm a GM guy
Why café regulations , lower cost and to use a variable engine across lines simliar to what toyota does.I own the Colorado havent had 1 issue ot tows great and the engine is a work horse .This 2.7 series has been out since 2019 and no complaints or major warranty headaches on the 2.7
Might be powerful and nice but they really forgot about the working man when they only gave the short box option. 6' is like the absolute smallest that would work for a lot of us. Had a GMC Sierra and loved the truck but hated the 5'8" bed. Silly that even in those you have to special order a 6 1/2' or 8' bed. They have turned these into people movers and have forgotten about the working class.
I like the joke so I like the video
I can't stand that the dashboard is all screen. No physical meters and no individual warning lights are a no-go for me.
The manufacturing “drips” are unacceptable! The 2.7L engine is also unacceptable. Everything else looks and sounds great.
I've been intrigued, but that gas milage could be the deal breaker for me.
It’s tough. Nothing gets good fuel economy. Even all the new turbo hybrid stuff coming out.
@@TedwardDrives
Didn’t the V6 do better on gas mileage?
great looking truck but it is more expensive than Toyota
you mean "way more expensive"
Perfect for the mall parking lot and Starbucks.
Yes very easy to park.

I have no need for headlight switch. I never need it.
I can see light thru the rear window around the edges.... this thing going to be 60k? pffff

We didnt start the fire
But in the end we will get burnt by it😅
The good part, once one has gone without for years and finished those payments, the truck decides to sacrifice itself to the rust gods.
Enjoy.
Any battery and infotainment problems like everyone else?
Keep fixing your own cars fellas
Really????? Comparing a $50,000 truck to a Honda Civic???
What are the discounts on this thing?
None
Unaffordable, and how long will these little motors in heavy trucks last? The government regulations are killing cars and driving prices sky high
Me reading the comments to get insight knowing damn well i cant afford this truck🤡
Man truck prices, new used, are out of control. Best just to buy used since trucks can laat 300-400k with good maintenance. I just bought a used 2006 Colorado with 137,000 mi for 7300. Technically it was a good deal but at the same time a 2006 for that price it's kind of wild.
But the 2024 Tacoma TRD PRO will get the same power but a lot better gas mileage, but less towing capacity… but also looks badass… decisions, decisions 😅
Definitely looking forward to driving and comparing
the fact the GMC logo is at a different height on the right screen compared to left screen is inexcusable. what else did they say 'eh good enough' on?
430 ft/lbs out of a turbo 4 banger is asking a whole lot. a lot of strain on a small motor. and the mpg from turbo 4 is not that impressive considering the lack of power you get. they are good on the highway but lack useable low speed torque compared to V6.
and this is my opinion but GM trucks after around 2013/2014 are a lot more disposable. the GMT800s are the best and the 900s are a close second. everything after that is a shortlived mess.
Lack of power? It makes 315 horsepower and 430 torque. That's better numbers than the 5.3 V8 in the Silverado and the 3.6 V6 in the old Canyon/Colorado. It also makes peak torque at 3,000 RPM and makes more power than any of the other midsize pickups currently on sale. If you don't know what you're talking about, just say that. I mean you're literally just tossing words out there with no substantial info to support any of it.
@@TheFlooringInspector82 I’ve driven plenty of four cylinder turbos. From a dead stop they are all dogs. Every one of them. The numbers look good on paper but in real life they already need to be moving to build any power. Compare that to an old school 3800 GM in a Bonnie or something. They had lower numbers on paper but would smoke the tires across an intersection. Is why everyone hates Lexus for ditching their v6 for their new four cylinder turbos.
This truck looks awesome, but...a 4 cylinder engine?????? Turbo or not, I just can't do it. I mean, the engine has to work so hard to deliver the output that it gets gas mileage worse that 6 cylinder engines!!!
I am also concerned this engine will have significant issues at higher mileage levels...works too hard.
Looks nice, but a few gripes:
How can I flash some idiot in the left lane when the headlight switch is on the screen? Or just let the other guy go at a 4-way stop? Really, a deal-breaker, non-car guy GM.
A Toyota's tailgate storage wouldn't leak water, if it had one.
A prop rod for the hood? Cheap.
Power rear window would have been helpful.
I wonder how the 4x4 or AWD system works, that is, how front to rear torque is managed. No web channel EVER explains that.
It still has flasher/highbeam on the stalk.
I love it but ain’t worth it it’s almost the same price range as a Sierra Denali
Fully loaded Sierra is 75 to 80 thousand not 55 like Canyon
@@jameskrenz7584 well I’n the us it is we’re I live it ain’t saddly by example Sierra at 1.5 M and the canyon is 1.6M so yh
this and the new colorado look pretty sick in all their trims. cant wait to see them being used daily to pick up the kids from school and for coffee runs to starbucks!
Someone’s salty
My new Denali pulls my 2023 20ft Airstream with ZERO issues. Pulls it like a half ton.
That's kinda the point of these trucks. They are not meant for the guy that hauls heavy loads everyday or lives on a cattle ranch. They're made for the guy/gal who lives like the vast majority of Americans and only needs a pickup truck occasionally. The person who uses their vehicle as a daily driver but also has a boat or camper, needs to go to home depot on the weekends, needs to carry his trash to the local transfer station.
A vehicle that you can't put a 6'2 person in the back seat isn't worth over $52,000.00...not when you buy a chevy half ton pu low bottom trk crew cab with the same 2.7 for less than 50k..😂😂😂
6’2” people have enough. I’m ok if they can’t fit everywhere
You named this monster as "medium size" truck ?!
No guy in construction is gonna use that stupid tailgate ruler
Beyond glad the 3.6 is gone from these. What a DOG. I spent a week with one while my 2016 Colorado Duramax was in the shop and I hated it. My normal work commute I could not crack 20mpg no matter how hard I tried. After getting rid of my Colorado Duramax I went to a Silverado 2.7 HO and absolutely LOVE it. It gets 19-22mpg per tank regularly, is dead on as fast as the 5.3 I had before it between the Colorado and this too. My next truck will be a Colorado/Canyon again however as I love the looks and the better garageability of them. I will pour one out for the diesel even though it wasn't exactly quick if you needed it to be.
Brother I don’t know what you’re smoking, but I actually had a 20’ Silverado custom crew cab with the 2.7 that I TRADED out for a 22’ Canyon crew cab with the 3.6 because I can get BETTER gas mileage in the Canyon, Lol. Those four bangers are the largest displacement 4 cylinder engines in production and they are THIRSTY as hell. Now mind you, my truck is just the 2WD version and it has a lower curb weight compared to a 4x4 Canyon or the 2WD Silverado I had. So it’s not as thirsty and It’s demonstrably quicker off the line and throughout the rev range than the Silverado too.
@@nelsonvanvickle8862 Smoking facts my guy. I've hand calculated every tank. My Trip 1 (that I reset every fill up) is currently 22.1mpg so on track to hand calculate about 21.8-21.9mpg. It has beat both of my 5.3s prior. 4x4, curb weight is 5049lbs. The only thing this truck can't touch was my Colorado Duramax. Worst tank ever was 23.3mpg. I spent a week in a Colorado with the 3.6 as a loaner, I could not exceed 18.9mpg during that time I had it. Same driving scenarios. All it did was downshift (no torque at all) so if you had to go around slower traffic it would drop from 8th(if it ever saw it cruising) down to 4th or 5th just to make a move.
This would sell really well in Saudi Arabia, where pickup trucks are more of a lifestyle vehicle and the occasional use of practicality.
That is exactly the US market
That is the literally the US market and its what set the disgusting standard for modern pickup trucks and SUVs
