I got tired of spending $18 every time I wanted a pumpkin latte so I spent $20,000 to do it a home instead.

I started with a $600 all-in-one (with grinder and steamer) Breville and it’s worth it. I got mine on Amazon for $400 with points. It paid for itself over the last 7 years. I get he most use out of it at work so now I’m shopping for an at-home set that’s more advanced.

It paid for itself after probably in less than 2years

It’ll obviously pay itself off esp if you’re a usual coffee drinker

Moka pot, French Press and South Indian Filter percolator. Cheap, value for money, don’t need to be a geek or research. Bit of trial and error and you’ll get good coffee.

I have a moka pot, a French press, a phin and an automatic drip machine. A nice ginger and frother too but it took me months to get those things plus none are the best of the best but I can make my coffee how I like. In the long run it pays off.

Investing in a good set of machines is better in the long-term than buying daily and getting different tastes all the time. Create time and make your own. Manual.

I’m in all the above 😂 I have three pour overs because they’re my fav, but I cannot get my Chemex to make coffee that isn’t sour. It also clogs every time I use it. Suggestions? I think I’m using the right grind…I always double check online before I use it.

If you are roasting your coffee beans wait at least 2 days before using them.if that doesn’t solve the issue then consider changing the roast profile or changing the soil your beans are from. These are the largest factors affecting sour coffee, there are other areas to consider ,

      1. Try grinding finer and finer until the coffee is suddenly very bitter, then go back one step on your grinder.
      2. Use more water. 1:15 may not be the ideal ratio for your particular coffee. Try somewhere in the 1:16 - 1:17 range.
      3. Pour slower, especially at the beginning. 4 - 5 g/s should be your goal. Try to hit the 60 g mark inside the 12-15 second window for your bloom, and let it bloom for at least a minute.
      4. Brew at a higher temperature, especially if you're buying lighter roasts. Get close to boiling, between 90° and 95°.
Keep experimenting. It won't be perfect from the start, but you should eventually find the sweet spot. Granted, some of these will change depending on the coffee you're buying, but the more you try, the easier this will get. Use the Coffee Compass from Barista Hustle as a way to analyze your results.

If it keeps getting clogged it sounds like you're using a bad grinder that produces alot of fines. This is why it's a mistake to think you can start making coffee with cheap entry level equipment. If your budget is super tight get a fellow opus (its on sale now.)

I'd wager the most popular American coffee bar involves something from Blak and Decker, uses a reservoir, and makes you mad when you forget to set it up the night before.

Not meant to be snobbish here, but we must consider that many americans folks are willing to spend an efty price for a single "coffee" cocktail. that's why starbuck is so popular there and more and more everywhere else throughout the world. For me, more than 1,5€ an espresso after a lunch in a restaurant is not reasonable. but i must say that I don't like coffee with flavour, including sugar, at all. i like to taste my cup of coffee blend except for a little milk now and then, so when i order a coffee with some milk, i don't spend much than 3€. following the same logic, i don't spend much in a coffee machine and its accessories. i have an original nespresso
machine (the base one) and a couple of reusable pods, a nice container to store them, a decent, yet affordable automatic grinder. then i buy some already grilled coffee grounds, and tasting different ones, one at a time after i finished a package. that's why i don't spend much than 30 cents for a cup of coffee at home. when i want to be more fancy, i gave it little vegetable milk or some ice cubes, that would maybe add 8 cents per cup maximum. but i'm not a barista fanatic either who wants to have the best of the best of equipments and coffee grounds. i don't have nor the money nor the time nor the desire for it but I enjoy watching the equipment and the dedication of others who are so much into it. 😊
