  • Ok it's Monday afternoon and I arrive home from work to find that the Zoe has a charging issue. In this video I do a quick check to see where the car is at before deciding what to do next.
As we're down to one car at the moment its important we find out if the problem is with our charge point, or the car. If it is the car I need to know if the AC and DC charging is impacted or just AC. So we have a little tour of the local chargers to see whats going on.
Collateral damage in this video is S-Hell chargers which proves a tricky experience.

I had home charge issue with my mg5
I went to a local 50kw charger and charged for 15mins.
On returning home, home charging was back online as if a reset had taken place.

I notice from the beginning of the video a quick ticking sound. I have that too, coming from the charging port. Does anybody know what it is? My car makes it even when turned off 🤔

Isn’t the Zoe’s OBC integrated with the main drive motor Inverter on this model?
If so it it fortunate that you haven’t lost drive completely.

The motor windings are used, as I understand it, but I’m not sure to what extent the actual charger reuses drive electronics ac/dc etc I’ll have to rewatch mikeselectrical stuffs video on it

    I had the same issue.
Turns out the Zoe is quite picky about grounding.
Apparently is the gound resistance is too high AND you try to charge again and again, the charger locks itself for like 15 or 30 minutes which is annoying.
If I were you I'd double check the grounding on your home charger, maybe there's a faulty connection somewhere

The dealer took out the motor and fixed it then put it back.

I had the same issue a few times on my Kangoo...
No rapid change option if course!😞
There were 2 distinct and separate issues on a few occasions.
    1. The Zappi charger just kept breaking down. Eventually it was removed and replaced by an Ohme. I have had no issues with the charge side of things since then.
    2. My 12v battery was getting low. It kept throwing up charge faults. (We checked the OHME and it charged our other EV so we could eliminate that as the issue).
The short term fix was disconnected the 12v battery. I connected the + and - cables (NOT the battery before anyone tried that!!!!). This 'hard reset' sorted it for each charge session... The 12v battery was replaced. This was a longer term fix however the issue eventually led to a DC/DC converter being replaced under warranty.👍
In ref to RFID... Everyone in Scotland who signs up to chargeplace Scotland uses one as often chargers are remote and phone signal can be non-existant ...🤔

How about an update to say how you rectified this problem?

Lock the car and walk away for about 15mins.
