Hey Hey Hey my Daily Decembers! You thought I wouldn't post eh, but guess what! Second video is OUT and it's a highly requested one - career options for PhD Graduates (or even those with a first degree/master's of course). Hope you enjoy and let me know of any other career options that you may have in mind!

I Am In A Place This is a great informative video and you’ve helped me discover new roles. Thank you!

Everything is so nice, but none of the roles that you have mentioned you NEED to be a PhD, only academia. I’d say master degree and go do something with your life

@@firstjedi2 That is true. But doing a PhD is fun. The only reason why mamny smart people do a PhD is that they are paid to relax writing papers, which is like three or four gap years. I myself did same when I did my PhD in Istanbul. I was dancing in all the cliubs for four years, being paid tax-free. After I received my PhD, life became tough. really tough. No jobs, few interviews. I have had to learn how to program java to get a job, but that does not need a PhD. I only feel sorry for people who actua;lly pay fees to do a PhD. They don't listen when I advise them that it is unnecessary, especially if they are not bookworms. And to maintain that knowledge after graduation you need to love reading and keep reading, else the PhD just becomes a mere title, and a lame title indeed.

@@firstjedi2 A masters degree is even not necessary ost of the time. You get a job, gain experience, but also keep reading broadly, both university subjects and light reading.

She's just educating us on what paths people can potentially take, she's not telling you how to get the job

The status of professions can be quite varied. So depending which profession aassociating the PhD to it sort of affects the status. One interesting Book abt professions is by Abbott (1988) even if the Book is kind of old it makes some good points abt status etc. Im doing a master now but also a second BA. I am thinking abt a PhD after. But since PhD isnt a legitimated profession neccessarly in itself but is sort of transfered into another profession after the completion of the degree, what is your thoughts about PhD in relation to the different status certain professions have? as well professionals who do certain works in a profession is also holding different status within the profession group. Im trying to decide if I would be in a better position within a profession if I hold a PhD or if its mainly the experience that I should decide over if I should so a PhD cz its probably a great job if paid by a uni for like 4 yrs of work. And then transfer into some other profession.

Assalamu alaykum. Can I ask your advice. After some years of maternity break after graduating Im trying to decide between going to biotech industry or go into teaching. What made you decide against industry and go into teaching instead?

YOu are not asking me, but may I answer? It depends on what you like in life, and the opportunities that show up. There are no rules.
