To all people saying this feels like a level cut from the game where you are supposed to come back at some point during the story that's becausethat is just the og sandover village ripped from the first game, of course it feels like a coesive level.
What's more interesting in my opinion are the crimson guard crates, not much the crates themselves but their placement in the map all in places where fly scout boxes were in jak1. If you think about it the textures and assets used on the village are either essential to the cutscene(samos house's walls or the palm trees) or reused later in the game (mostly terrain).
On the other hand textures or objects that are not reusable in the main game are either cut (green echo or the laser wind turbines) or replaced with the closest fitting substitute (samos's portal is just generic precursor metal and the rice farm near the jungle has grass textures instead of mud and water). Considering this why are the boxes replaced by dark echo crates instead of being cut or retextured in generic metal or something? My guess would be that either the developers intentionally modified the map to spawn crates insted of boxes for some reason despite none of them are visible in the cutscene (and would break immersion if they were) or most likely, the crates in jak 2 are actually the same repurposed item as the scout boxes, and because of that they are recognized as the same asset by the game engine.
After all changing the model, interactions and item drop seems more logical and convenient than making a new different object, I think they might even use the same animation when you brake them. So, whenever you see a crate in jak 2 or three rember, that is just a fly scout box from the first game, sort of like a *legacy* if you will
Amazing comment, that deserves to be pinnned.
@@BoomerStreams love this comment
The crates is most likely because they started working on Jak2 from J&D (by which I mean, they copied the entire project) and they just replaced the scout-fly-box-asset with the KG-crate-asset, causing every instance of it in the J&D world to be replaced by the KG-crate.
Not all that much of the sandover village assets are actually reused later in the game, but as long as everything fitted on the disk, and there was no performance issue for the cutscene in sandover village, there was absolutely no reason to remove anything more.
According to The Cutting Room Floor wiki the Krimzon Guard crates use the same internal name as the one used in Jak and Daxter ("crate", of course), so it's simply a result of the game automatically spawning those crates when it sees those object IDs located in those positions. In fact it wouldn't surprise me too much if the Sandover level in Jak 2 still contains a bunch of other object IDs from the original game that are simply disregarded due to those object names being unused in the sequel.
@Alex
I think in terms of disregarded ID’s, the missing collision on the bridges leading to Samos’s hut is likely one of these assets that aren’t present in Jak 2.
Those bridges in the first game used a very specific script of physics designed to simulate Jak’s weight swaying it. I don’t think these physics are present in Jak 2 in any way, so I’d imagine they were removed to free space. This is likely the reason why players are falling through those specific bridges when trying to enter Sandover Village, because the info that tells the game how those bridges operate is missing, so it isn’t able to make it work in any way, shape, or form.
That sculptor didn’t even sculpt anything after we brought him back his muse, lazy ass.
Welcome2Earff I know right?
He was sculpting a rock, and he did great, quit being so judgmental
He wanted his muse so he could fuck it
BRUH xD
Maybe he was killed by the Metal Heads in the meanwhile
So cool! There's such an empty feeling playing as future Jak in Sandover right? Like he grew up there.
VTNVIVI Yeah, it really does feel empty! It's almost sad that no one is around (anymore?!) 😭
You're here too Vivi? Nice
I'm surprised that the whole village even exists in Jak 2, it's just there for that ONE cutscene 😆
it feels weird because the jak2 sounds :D like jumping and punching and stuff
+Rashed1255 Yeah, they ripped it straight from the first I think and just left the whole level there. I wonder why the crates are there, though.
Seeing sandover village fragmented from the rest of the world made this feel like a kingdom hearts level.
First of all, love the mlp pfp
Second, a Jak and Daxter Kingdom Hearts crossover would actually be pretty sick
It’s really cool seeing Sandover Village in Jak 2 but oh my god does it feel weird not being able to go to the Forbidden Jungle, Sentinel Beach or even Fire Canyon. It’s crazy cause ALL of Sandover Village is rendered, even all of the transitional areas, but then once you get to the area they connect at there’s just nothin there. It’s so weird yet so nostalgic.
I just gave this a try and found out it also works in Hero Mode, which means weapons in Sandover Village, something I dreamed of a long time ago!
While the sandover village stuff is pretty neat I was more impressed by the sweet movement tech you showed
3:30 even with his muse he could not sculpt
I remember you could do this on the ps2 by playing a certain cut scene, and then taking the game out of the tray it would cause this same effect where you're able to explore the area
Crystal Clod yeah I remember trying that so many times until I got the timing right haha
This is so cool. When I was a kid, The Precursor Legacy was always my favourite game, but we lost the disc (no idea what happened to it), so the only way I could even get a glimpse of TPL was by starting up Jak 2 and watching the intro cutscene, and I remember wishing that I could just walk around Sandover Village, just one last time.
You were actually able to do this all on the ps2. When the naughty dog logo appeared p, you had to eject the disk and then put it back in, then it would let you fully explore sand over.
How sick would this have been if you could actually explore even more, or even all the map, I would probably cry if I could, awesome dude, thanks
You're welcome!
Remember when people were theorizing that this had a connection to Jak 4?
I love and hate the eerie feeling without the music and villagers, it feels so sad and nostalgic.
Hearing that Sandover Village theme brought tears to my eyes, man i miss this series so much.
Me too man!
I don't know what's more appealing. Seeing this done in PS4, or the flawless way you move about the level.
Thank you! ☺️
Dude... friggin sick.
Hol up, I know you, I see you have great game taste 😏
As much as a I love the darker and grittier tones of 2 and 3, I can't help but wonder what the series would've been like had the sequels stuck with the more light hearted jungle-centric themes of the original.
Idk if I would call TPL a game with a jungle theme. Most of it just so happens to be in a tropical region but like many games of that Era like Spyro or Crash, they could easily go do other things. The art style is what connects all of the games together and keeps the series looking timeless, even to this day.
Very intriguing! I had no idea this level was here!
ooh, debug mode looks like a fun thing to play with
It definitely is
You can create a new save game. That way, you'll be able to visit the village whenever you want.
Mudzi Oh yeah, true. You could also save in Sandover and have a file that way as well.
Fantastic, I missed some gems and orbs and this tutorial was a huge time saver good stuff dude :)
Whoa! Have my sub sir, this is freakin awesome
What the hell. An entire lost level with boxes in it too. Like it was gonna be used then it was scrapped in the full game
mellow Hello I know right?! I was thinking "but why?..." the whole time. Maybe they used it for testing. Idk
It's just the Scout Flies ;)
o boi this is new to me
i knew a little about this a long time ago but couldn't find videos on it. who cares if someone is "late"
they replaced
scoutfly boxes with those crimson boxes
Maddest thing about this video is your Jak movement bro very clean
Its crazy that they put collision into the level
Yeah, there was no need for that (from what I can tell).
I wish there was a way to import the entire Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy world onto Jak 2. It would be interesting to see that.
Honestly just a PC port for everything would be great. The community could create and do so much with these games.
@@jr540123 Guess what
@@CameronKiesser I AM AWARE
@@jr540123 Lol
never expected a video of the jak games in 2018, feels nostalgic :P
This is a REALLY late comment to this, but I know Boomer will probably read it, so-
This isn't the only "Glitch world" level in Jak games. There are multiple cutscenes that this trick will work on including
Damos' death scene, which will spawn you into a level near the catacombs
And meeting the Precursors, which will spawn you into the center of the world (Which is an endless void jak is garuntee'd to die in)
And even a glitchy version of the desert from the intro cutscene in Jak 3
Other areas possibly exist all throughout the games due to them using in-game levels for cutscenes. I don't think anyone's had the time/patience to find them all yet, tho
Oh, you know me... I read. 👀 I will give the "Center of the World" a go, that sounds really fun!
time to platinum jak 2
Wow! You could explore way more than I expected.
I did all the glitches on jak 2 and 3 on ps2, jak 2 one of the top 10 hardest console games in the world, but still badass to this day.☺️
It's cool to visit Sandover Village in Jak II but it's also sad to see everything so dead. Going around the corner and seeing it just drop off to a cliff was sad. Imagine they made a level where Jak goes back to Sandover Village of the past and just seeing everything in ruins.
That could have been cool, but in a way, we did already get that with Samos' hut in deadtown?
@@BoomerStreams yup the stuff was mad sad for me, everything was ... dead a shell even, so sad 😢
Thanks man this was really helpful
this made me so sad....it is just like when I look back into my past...and realize it's all gone..
Yeah, there's an oddly empty feeling to it. It's probably because of the massive transition between Jak 1 and 2. You go from being on a friendly platforming adventure in a mostly low-tech world to being trapped in a bleak future, using guns and so on.
I don't know how they managed to make that work, but kudos to them. If you had asked me if something like that would work and I didn't think of Jak and Daxter, I never would have said it would.
Lucifronz tbh it just makes me think of how many years have passed in my own life. How we've all grown up now. I look back and those times were happy. But if I visit the same places that brought me happiness back then, they just feel empty now...A lost memory. I really love this game man. I named my dog after Daxter. This held a lot of memories for me because it was the first game that I bought for ps2. My brothers had their racing games, but Jak was MINE. I hold it so close to my heart.
Lucifronz If they drop hints at e3 this year, I WILL be crying
+lilmamagc Hints for what?
Jak 4 maybe?
Man I remember doing this on the PS2 but just ejecting the disk during the cutscene, I was amazed when I found out about this. Can’t remember if I found it by accident or if I saw some video in the early days of UA-cam. Spent way to much time walking around wondering why there were crimson guard boxes
there's a possiblity that it's a scrapped level, because they have created far more collision then needed. As the intro cutscene only plays in a single location. Other then that adding collision to everything else seems unnecessary. It could be that it's scrapped later on, as there were the other eco types discovered hidden in a test room.
Very cool! Content like this is why I subbed in the first place! Love your channel and stream, I3OOM3R! Keep up the great work! XOXO, Penguin
I'm so excited to try this out
This was in a cheat book I got at a book fair at school I thought it was so cool
I remember back when I was a kid my Jak 2 disc was all scratched up and was having problems running the opening cutscene.I took out the disk without turning off the game, cleaned the disk, and popped it back in. Then the screen went black and loaded me straight into sandover village! I don't remember much about what I did exactly and I don't have that same copy of Jak, so I can't replicate it... Just food for thought I guess.
The look of the village empty is EPIC.
Feels sad and mysterious, with all lights off and no sound
Thank you so much bro this made me so happy
You're welcome!
Did those flying things come out the portal and kill everyone? Even the poor Yakows?
Seeing this I always figured that sand over village was supposed to be a tutorial level in the early stages of jak 2 maby even jak trys to defend the village but never got that far
I remember taking the disc out of my PS2 during this cutscene, restarting mission, and exploring Sandover Village, honestly it was easier than debug mode lol
Sure thing but that doesn't work on PS4.
1:12
I have always wondered why upon first entering this area outside of the cutscene, those metal head creatures come flying out of the invisible rift gate endlessly. Very strange... 🤨
As the actual village level is used in the opening cutscene the flying metal heads that invade from the portal are among the last effects that play in-engine, seems like the developers didn't bother cleaning it up after the scene ends, as it doesn't make a difference since it's not used again anyways. Its apparently a looped effect and it only stops if you "refresh" the area by dying.
Can yoi get those orbs with out a seconde controller ?
This feels like the opening of 28 Days Later when the guy's wandering the city with nobody around.
Do you get to keep all of the orbs and skull gems when you start the main story or does it disappear?
Guys, I don't know how to say this but I've actually entered this place once while I was starting up Jak & Daxter. I forgot what happened, but I'm so sure that I entered this place without even pressing those keys that you've mentioned (to enter debug mode). So here is how I think I it actually did it (by mistake):
I was starting up the game, and during the opening scene where it is on that island area, my small bro who was 4 back then, actually ejected the Jak & Daxter disk out of the PS2. I got pissed off, but couldn't do much so I just reinserted the disk back by pressing the eject button on the PS2 and then the next thing I Know, I was running around in that exact same place. I swear I was so confused and yet so excited about this. I remember telling my other elder brother about it after he came back from school but he didn't believe me. And the worst part was, I just couldn't redo the exact same thing again cos I forgot how I even did it to begin with🤦
But guys, this is crazy!!!! I think there's actually another way to enter this place to roam as Jak.
Different game
Or just open the disc tray during the cutscenes lmao
(ps4)
Raosal Imagine PS4 having a physical release! 👌
Boomer shhhhhit ya got me
Raosal It was both secretly wanting a physical release AND exposing you! 👀
Physical release wouldn't help this considering that if you remove the disk it ejects you from the game.
Super cool!
Do i need a second Controller for the Collectables?
The signs are there that it was for more than that cutscene purpose. Things like those old blue eco devices, the oracle etc. If it had been just for the cutscene, surely they would have scrapped more of the terrain to save up on space, not leave those details which aren't shown in cutscenes.
well someone had to have added those crimson guard boxes right..
They are placed exactly where the scoutfly boxes used to be in Jak TPL!
I wonder what would happen if you used a save file in sandover.
This map can be accesed too in the ps2 by removing the disc during the intro cutscene
Does the debug code work in the Jak II demo (PS2)? It doesn't seem to be working for me.
The music from End of the World in Kingdom Hearts fits well with the footage of the empty husk of Sandover village.
Can u do a vid that shows us how to do level select for jak and daxter if u can
CAPTAIN BUTTERS 435 I don't think there is a level selection in Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.
Boomer oh i will just fly there 😂
I treid it on my PS4 and I only heard one beep. Do u have to let go of L3 when u do the second beep
I would recommend letting go of L3 after you heard the first beep.
Jak 2 Sandover Villiage in GLORIOUS HD! Mmmm yummy! ;)
* 1 0 8 0 p 6 0
I am enjoying though that PS4 doesn't have any issues regarding the framerate here. So I guess that's a plus?
Superb video, thanks for the share. do you know if there's any debug code to play as young Jak?
Thank you very much! No, I don't think there is. As soon as I know something though, I'm going to make a follow-up video!
this is so cool!
Did you know in debug mode if you hold down R2 you won’t take any damage and heal yourself? I just found out while playing
Awesome
can you make a video or link me if you have with the game being played on a ps4 pro on 4k HDR?
The PS4 upscales the image to 4K and doesn't natively run it. Regarding HDR, I don't think the games support that.
i remember being able to do this before debug mode by ejecting the disc before the game started
Does getting the jetboard get you the trophies cuz there’s a trophy for all orbs
Yup
Maybe those of Naughty Dog had planned that you could travel back in time to return there? Could the game have been longer? We will never know ... I finished the Jak And Daxter series at last .... unfortunately Jak 3 didn't have all the places in Jak 2, but the story was worth it ...
Returning to the topic: Although it could also be that the engine of the second game is the same as the first and the data remained,
If Sandover village had been a place to visit in Jak 2, how would you think it would have been and in what context? I would love to read your opinion.
Sorry for my english.
Such an awesome video! I remember cynical, aka thegamersjoint did a video of this ages ago too.
I remember looking up cheat codes for games and some games never worked. Took years to realize that you needed 2 controllers.
Does it have to be disc?
Satisfying
Mans really never completed that muse statue
Why did we have to go through all that trouble in the first place then? 🤬
Thank's i didnt all the orbes now because of this glitch i have the platinum trophy thank's sir !
WOW I didn't know that so your telling me tney left in the debug console for anyone to use that is until they patch it??!
so your telling me that I can officially speedrun 100% completeion using this method wow..... uh thanks man definately gave a like
If you want to participate on the Speedrunning leaderboards, Debug Mode for 100%, if not allowed and will make your Run a "Debug Mode" run.
Oh and yes, you can use this on any console, until they decide to patch it!
@@BoomerStreams
so your telling me I didn't have to do any platforming noir break my 2nd controller just entered this debug code thats awesome!1!!
Essentially, yes!
Can you explore around Sandover Village on the PS5 console? If so, how can I do it?
Exactly the same way as in this video.
@@MuchWhittering Thanks.
The only problem I have about this is that when I did the trick to retrieve my stuff I platinum the game because of the precursor orbs you get. I spent a good while grinding the orbs truthfully on saved file and now all of that was done for nothing lmao. Not blaming you or anything im just both happy and sed
The debug mode works on PS2 too?
Yes, on all versions of the game.
Boomer and get all precusor orbs is get all inventory items command?
l3+x but this not working on ps2 i think
L3 + X works on a second controller on PS2.
I put a second controller on my ps2 but the second controller is not worked Just the first controller (sorry for bad english but not my language)
man. I'm so late on this debug mode that it's pointless for me to even try to make a video or a tutorial on this ;( but i might show it any way in the future , not a tutorial but playing with the debug mode.
It's never too late to go for whatever you enjoy doing the most!
What the heck I can’t believe this actually works
it'd be fair sick if they remade Jak 1-3 but made it consistant
like being able to actually go back to sandover after jak 1 and explore the whole world
2:40 did you do a backflip? Is that a thing in Jak II??
MJIndian all you do is punch the ground while in mid air and then he’ll flip like that. It’s been there since the first game
Floodrunner_ 20 I know you can do that, but it looked like he did a legit full backflip. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. It's like RIGHT after he punches the ground
You're not mistaken, As soon as Jak hits the ground, press X. You can do it in the first game, but there's no animation for it, Jak just jets upward, they added a little flip animation.
It is pretty cool
Thank you!
Idk why it cut off fire canyon and all the other main locations in the game
Because they take disk space and jak 2 is quite packed with assets already.
Just want to share you dont need another controller for L3+X code just create a guest account (PS4) and log in there.
Oh, that also works? I didn't know, thanks for sharing!
same with the ps3, holding the home button and changing your controller to player 2 also allows this, the game will be paused but you can still hear when you input the codes
Thanks for sharing! ☺️
There is a box in that building? Why though... maybe the area was supposed to be in game?
Filip Gavula That's where the Scout Fly Boxes are in The Precursor Legacy!
Yes I know! But don't understand why they added it into the JakII when you officially cant go to that area
That is a great question!
+Boomer Scout Flies... okay, that answers a question I had. My guess is that they simply didn't remove the Scout Fly Boxes, but instead swapped them to make it easier. Perhaps they just ripped the level from the first game, code and all, then swapped the Scout Fly Boxes with ammunition crates in Jak 2 (or at least for that level).
Does this glitch work to get the precursor orb trophy?
Jake Riley Davies yes
Yes rip. I grinded so hard on those stupid races and had to find a few more orbs and now I don't need to. All of that for nothing lmao
4:07 if you were in debug mode, why didn't you just do L2+R2? i thought you were going to explore the map with the debug mode or something
I wanted to explore it on foot. Seemed much cooler!
4:20 attempting the jetbord glitch I see :P
I'm actually capable of doing it!
Boomer I never did u couldn't lol. When people do video like this they don't do anything off normal players limit.
The first D-Pad moment reminded me of something but I don’t remember what
Spiritium konami code aka Contra Code. UUDDLRLR (and then for the real code) BA Start Select
+FreddieMason Or the code for the Spyro Demo in Crash 3. UUDDLRLR Square.
That's another Naughty Dog game, so the connection is obvious.
r/wooosh
Konami Code on NES
I wonder why they put all the sandover village into the game, including all the decorations inside the homes
Do more area exploring videos please
so many years...
I did it without debugs.on my ps2 by playin jak 2 then switchin the disk to jak 1
Lol imagine if the entire jak 1 map was just put in jak 2. "Ehhh fuck it lads, they won't find the debug mode"
maybe they should add more areas but they only cut most of the content when jak 2 was in development
I just see ghosts in this village
If only we had missions here..
Does it work on PS3 and PS Vita?
Yes.
