This still is my favorite Tool song hands down. Probably the most underrated in their discography.
It’s been my favorite 1997
H. and Push-it ...have always been a tie for me.
For you and I, fans, it’s not underrated, just underplayed live lol 🤘🏼🌀
Agreed!
-"Probably the most underrated in their discography."
THIS^
"Bro be holding that note."
Maynard singing The Grudge: "Hold my beer"
Hold my six pack... 😂
it still tickles me pink watching people react to something I heard 30 years ago and was blown away by 💯 Spiral out! 🤘
The most common interpretation of this song is that Maynard talks about the relationship with his son (Devo H. Keenan). That since he has become a father, he has to let that old part of him die so to speak/you can no longer live selfishly.
“I am too connected to you to slip away, fade away”
And that the title is meant to represent two lines, connected. At least that's what people say.
When asked about this song, Maynard said his son's middle name is H. At least, that's what I heard.
Always thought it was about heroin
@@user-wh6sp6st8s What was their EP called?
This track is criminally
Underrated like the Patient, Jimmy, Eulogy, Swamp Song to name a few
...push-it
@@mapexzildjian6361 not underrated in my opinion, that song is in my top 5 of all time of Tool
Those are all strong picks, though they played The Patient and Swamp Song the last couple x I saw them. In 22 times seeing them I've only seen H twice and it was 96 and 2002. Eulogy I've seen twice and Jimmy once. Would love to see "Jimmy" live again someday!
Love swamp song
Anything on salival
I envy people discovering Tool for the first time. Remember that time in my life, it was awesome!!
I think it was around 97'. It blew my mind. I instantly forgot about the other popular bands of the 90's for a bit.
Word... Fuckn word...
The snake behind him is his past self. The blood before him is his newborn son. When he says "I will die. I dont mind." and "consideratly killing me" he is using dying as an exaggerative term for changing. He is killing who he was and becoming a newer, better version of himself. So his son is "considerately" killing who he is because his son is forcing him to become a better person.
Nailed it. Excellent job. ❤
Killing the ego 👍
Slow burn metamorphosis is such an apt description of Tool’s musical style.
One of those Tool songs that you always liked, but took you 20 years to realized just how good it is.
“Slow burn Metamorphosis “.
Nailed it!!
Tool in a nutshell.
Maynard writes the lyrics after the music done. How incredible it must be for Danny, Justin, & Adam to compose a song sonically, only to be blown away by the time Maynard gives it a narrative?!?
Nice reaction. Tool songs are typically multi-layered enigmas that require some reflection to penetrate. You are a delightfully odd person, and watching you go through the stages of understanding (there are more) is quite entertaining. Thank you. I hope you will react to others. Peace,
Leads do the Grudge next, it’s my favorite
If a Tool song speaks to you, whatever it meant when you heard it is what it means....
Best Tool album...
Nah, second best. But it is fucking excellent!
Lateralus has much more bangers on it.
The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Parabol/a, Ticks and leeches, Lateralus and the The Holy Trinity (mostly Reflection holding the other 2 up)
That's basically the whole album.
@@TSotP start to finish, Aenima all day. Finish it out with Bill Hicks.
Yep Æenima all day
My favorite album ever right up there next to in rainbows
In your opinion.
The journey of self discovery is what Tool is all about. The lines that make me tear up. This is the point where the walls built to protect oneself from emotional harm breakdown and you FEEL everything for Maynard is was looking onto the eyes of his son (my blood before me, begs me open up my heart again)
As I look in his eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of those times
I could have cried then
I should have cried then
My favorite track from Tool! Thank you! After watching, I went back through your videos and noticed you'd not reacted to Opeth yet. They are a Swedish band who's lyrics are in English, and their front man Mikael Åkerfeldt is one of many inspirations for Tatiana Shmayluk of Jinjer. He is similar, with s beautiful clean voice and very articulate growls. I would suggest a live performance to start out, Opeth- Harlequin Forest at the Royal Albert Hall High Def. A warning, the song itself is 11 minutes long and this video is over 13 minutes. It starts off with Mikael (or Michael to his English speaking fans) telling the crowd about meeting with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. His banter with the crowd is amusing, but could be chopped for a reaction.
Definitely an amazing song! Keep em coming 🙏
Please do " Jambi " by Tool 😀
Love your reactions
...please Rachel! As you were enjoying that much the deftones songs that you've tripped on I have a humble couple of suggestions. Those are:
Bored - Deftones
(A medium banger)
&
My own summer (shove it) - Deftones
(A stupid heavy banger)
Cheers! Kisses.
Love tool and absolutely love your reaction videos
If i can remember right, this song had to do with his son being born and how it was changing him, and his fear of passing on the same toxic traits his parents, particularly his father, passed on to him; and not having the type of connection and relationship with his son that he so desires.
The line about the “snake hissing behind him” is referencing those toxic traits; always there waiting to strike.
The line about “my blood before me” is literally his son; and the line “days a ways I still feel you touching me changing me” is Maynard ruminating after feeling his son moving in the womb and how it was changing him. I like how he phrased it as his son touching him(through the womb) instead of him touching his son.(through the womb) and in doing so is changing him.
And the repeated line of “snake hisses behind me” to accentuate that constant, reoccurring anxiety and fear.
“Considerately killing me” could be a reference to how his son was “killing him” or rather the parts of him that he wishes gone. Considerately, because it’s not a malicious.
One of the all time hidden jem songs by tool. Never got much exposure back when this album came out.
I'm glad I got to see this at the Salem Armory in Oregon on their 1996 Aenima tour. They opened with Third Eye. I"ll never forget that show! This track is one of Tool's best and rarely played live.
I've always taken this song to represent the internal struggle of detachment from our personal selfishness to only care about oneself and not allowing ourselves the sacrifice needed for others, the snake being the part within us that only wants to protect ourselves, always the little whisper, but trying to overcome that for something greater, almost a type of fear of letting go and opening up.
Thank you so much for playing my favorite song lol you poked your eye omg that was hilarious I'm sorry for laughing
do more tool please
TY. You got a new sub.
One of my favorite parts of this song.....is how the guitar is so often "responding" to the other musical elements.
There's a ton of call and response going on and it's super cool.
I get the impression that the lyrics are about the fear and resistance to change and its feminine qualities. Of course, it has been said that this song is about Maynard stepping into fatherhood, so it makes sense.
My favorite song by them, it just makes me feel safe when I'm stressed.
You’re right about the 2 choruses being different. There’s a slight variation in the chord progression in both of them
fc from Thailand ❤️
Apparently, this song is about his unborn child, and how he's reflecting and growing as a person in relation to that development
Beautiful song
Who else likes when she lifts her glasses up. You know things get serious when she does that. Goes from Diana Prince to Wonder Woman 😊 love that she is listening to "Tool"
8:07 - I've always loved the structure space on the bridge, and it sounds almost like Danny's doing a rim shot instead of hi hat so it makes this stretch sound like a clock ticking.
Hey beautiful just had to hop on to say thank you for reacting to one of my favorite Tool songs! Along with Jambi & Swamp Song! Love it and love watching you experience!🖤🔥😍🤘
H. is so good
love this song
For him it's his son, but really I think it's about how we can choose to let go of a way we've been in the hopes of being better for the sake of those we care about. And if you truly love someone then it's not even really a sacrifice. Hence the, 'I don't mind'. I'm not a parent, but parents are certainly good at this kind of selflessness.
Great song
My feeling is that this is about the birth of his son. He broke up with his son’s mom and it seemed like he didn’t really want his son to be born. But once his son was here, he realized that his baby boy was amazing. That snake is telling him one thing before the birth, but then once he was here he drowns that old thought and he now knows that he’s connected forever to his child.
metamorphosis... great word for this song.
Captain Insano shows no mercy.
🤘🏻🌀
That guitar solo is one of my favorite it is so powerful. The snake is Maynard’s past way. He talks about his obsession with womanizing sleeping around. After the birth of Devo who is the blood before he realizes that there is more to it. The first Perfect circle album is really about that struggle. The creative way he writes his song this could easily be talking about a toxic relationship or I heard people describing substance abuse can be fitted into these lyrics. H being short for heroin.
Holding that note lol the grudge then
And nobody will ever know 🔥
9:04 let's gooo
When you're done reacting to the studio versions of the album look up Tool live at "The Glass House " it's this album live
❤❤❤
about his son, i believe as well.
Confront the metaphor.
Nice reaction.
11:00 Some background in esotericism/hermeticism would help.
Enjoy the wild West of tool!
The song is about fatherhood and how it changes you
2nd best Tool song next to Parabol/Parabola. H has been my favorite song for a long time.
It does sound more like trying to let go of or rid oneself of one's inner demons.
Please consider reacting to "Right In Two" it chronicles mankind's problem now, the past and sadly our future. Rock on
From a musical/arrangement perspective: If you listen to the bass and guitar parts for the first verse they swap around for the second verse.
The first instrument that comes in is a heavily distorted bass.
The beauty of poetry, and art in general, is that you take your own meaning from it. It's just a tool, after all. 👽
You need to check out wings for Marie part 1 and 2 I always ask but nobody ever seems to review it
Its about killing your fear
I love tool sm haha. Random suggestion, have you checked out Kim Dracula ?
The song is set up like a slow storm rolling in until you get to the heart of it then all the violent emotions finally break through and you can hear him say he actually doesnt mind the change and rides the lightning to enlightment. In this case being a better father figure
I used to absolutely butcher this song on drums but I loved every second of it!
Greatest music I have heard. Headphones a must. Not meant to come out of a small corp radio or a car radio. Tool is true to their craft and don't manufacture 2 min, boring, 1 riff pop songs for corporate radio. JMO.
its about drug addiction, H is for Heroin
You really should begin your Tool journey from THE BEGINNING....OPIATE is still the way that i recommend you start listening to them so as to see their progression.... it's the Best way to go... IMHO
Stmlt - twilight
As usual Tools lyrics can mean different things to different people and at different times; another possible meaning is that H=heroin the drug.
The meaning of the song is in the name, H.
I always had a different take on this song, which I don't think is the intended one(That is more likely about his son, as mentioned in other comments).
I always viewed this as being about entering into a new relationship but carrying the baggage(the snake) with you and the strife(the storm) that brings with it. The snake whispers in your ear about what could happen but you want to open your heart to the new person. I always looked at it with the idea we are dying every minute, so someone considerately killing you is making those moments better. Eventually becoming vulnerable and having those hard discussions and facing those things you are carrying with you can let you stop putting that baggage onto the new relationship and see what can be there.
Jimmy or push it. Next please
hi Rachel good tool early stuff but I'm still waiting for your gojira reaction some day hopefully not so far away please😅
Great song...great band.
How about something way out there...Try King Diamond - Tea...yes a song about tea.....
I've always thought it was a song about 'H' specifically, and our relationship with addiction in general, not specifically from heroin.
You know that they're a sort of self-help organisation that uses various rhythmic elements to unsettle our subconscious, whilst using neuro-linguistic programming to have the lyrics work without effort.
Do "Job For a Cowboy" next. I'd go with "Beyond the Chemical Doorway" or "The Agony Seeping Storm".
It's just heavier and harder to understand Tool.
pls do (TOOL - right in two)
This song always reminded me of Lord of the Rings when Grima Wormtongue was manipulating the king of Rohan. Not that I'm a nerdle. But come on. "The snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been..." that's Grima telling the king that Gandalf ain't welcome.
PLEASE REACT TO “The Grudge”
The grudge please!
I really like the letter H, but I think my favorite is the letter W because it’s like a roller coaster 🎢🤪
Any1 whos had a child, should know that feeling. Brilliant song
can u so a reaction video on "7empest by TOOL"?
Integral Tool song
Plssss im begging you react to 7 years parody by mickey bustos plsss love you rayactions❤❤❤❤❤❤
This Song describes The feeling of halving children, they Ruin your life, for a while and even more, If you ARE unprapered, you Lost some perspective of Future, because of fear, but at The same time, Just to look at them you get ALL that strength back, its like MY mim used to say: having children is The same as become an idiot. H is The initial to Maynard's son. Well, at least, this is a theory of tool's comunity 😂😂😂
8CH! 😊👍
hi raya please react to Hijack by Our promise I'm sure you will love it❤
It’s what ever it means to you. But H is his son’s middle name and snake is the devil and blood a relative is the angel on his shoulders telling him what to do but it only comes down to you. And to be vulnerable maybe the decision to have him w/ a woman in a dysfunctional relationship as seen in Pushit.
Nope baby,,,everything is about a Time!!
It’s about his son
.............It's Heroin guys....................
FYI - your audio on this seems a bit crunched, almost like the loud parts are getting overly limited / compressed. Not sure what you're using to record but it might be worth playing with a bit to see what yields the best result.
The snake is herion the song is about herion "h"
Pretty sure Maynard’s lyrics are referring to sexual child abuse.
