Someone described Tool to me as 4 guys playing different songs at the same time and it somehow produces magic.
Danny Carey COULD play 5 songs at the same time, but he'd have to take his pants off
The better way to describe Tool is 4 guys playing 4 different songs and every once in a while they all stop and start together
I don't know about that.
You were listening the Patient but reading lyrics of Lateralus. Same album different songs🙂Welcome to TOOL rabbit hole.
thank you!
...i hope now she reads the lyrics to The Patient
😂😂
Glad you said something
@@mapexzildjian6361I hope she now listens to laturalus
You are the first reactor I have found that has started their Tool journey with "The Patient"! Such a deep song lyrically, musically and even personally for the singer. If you research what happened to Maynards mother and how long she suffered then you will begin to grasp his deeper meaning to being patient with caring for his mother, his patient. He often has multiple meanings possible to his lyrics. I look forward to further analyses from such a beautiful, intelligent, introspective, and open person willing to see deeper into music and especially this band. God bless you on this journey of enlightenment if you choose to 'spiral out' with us. Try "the Pot" next as a mainstream hit, 46&2 for a psychological and genetic journey to our higher selves, or "Descending" for a real trip through the fall and hopeful rise out of these crazy times we are in today. Thank you for your fun insightful reaction.
the moment you mention GOD i gotta roll. but otherwise well done.
The entirety of this album will completely blow your mind and fluster it in the most unexpected ways.
It’s about time you listen to Tool. They’ve been around for over 30 years. Yes, it will be a journey. Please do more Tool.
Love the fact that you read the lyrics to the "Lateralus" song and not to the song you were actually listening! 🤣
Tool doesn't make it easy to feel their music but my god the rewards when it clicks... this song and this album are so important to me. This band will become an obsession if you delve in. This album is a spiritual experience for me. Literally. Especially the title track Lateralus. It touches the divine nature of the universe. And to think I didn't like this album when I first bought it! But after a week or so I was obsessed. That obsession became part of my personal growth as a person and it's so much more to me than just an album. It feels more like a doorway to my mind and a lens to help understand the abstract experience of life. Sounds crazy and maybe silly, right? Spiral out. Keep going. Spiral out.
Very unusual way to start a Tool journey, but I am all here for it! The Grudge next, or literally anything else by them, they are one of the greatest bands that ever graced this earth
What’s funny I started with this album and I’ve been hooked ever since lol
Rollercoaster is probably the #1 description of Tool's music, along with a journey. Welcome to the wonderful world of Tool. It only gets better from here. Keep reacting to them and the Tool army will follow. Can't wait to watch your journey. Spiral out...keep going.
My favorite part of this reaction is when she starts reading the wrong lyrics.
More Tool please!! Their library is impressive, mind bending, and totally satisfying.
Tool is a fun rabbit hole.
The Pink Floyd comparison is very apt. Both bands are very philosophical by nature and greater than the sum of their parts, as well as very unique in their approach to songwriting.
Oh god i CAN'T WAIT until you react to more tool, what a ride ahead! Please PLEASE when you get to Parabol and Parabola, find a version that plays both continuously, otherwise you miss the brain shattering transition
Happy holidays
Glad you found TOOL. They are often very overwhelming at first, but it resonates after and you come back for more. They are a genre for themself and masters of timeshifts and packing 300 riffs in one song.
For first listeners is recommend: The Pot. More accessible and rounded.
I can recommend: Right in Two, 46&2, Parabola/Parabol(allways together), Vicarious
Maynard is a phenomenal singer and if you want the big scream go for The Grudge(25 seconds scream), if you want another band that perfectly shifts between different sounds and switching styles listen to Opeth. They mix so many genres it is really amazing. Opeth - Harlequin Forest would be my first listeners recommendation.
Agreed. They are an incredible band but one does not simply walk into Tool xD
TOOL always keeps you on your toes. They tend to do 4 full loops of each part, which sometimes I don't life, but in songs like The Grudge, they'll cut themselves off from the 4 loops and just cut in with the next, rising part. Really cool how they do their music. Impressive, to say the least.
Ive heard this song a million times and that heavy bass drop still gives me chills every time i hear it. Enjoy this journey and the Tool army will follow you the whole way. Alot of reactors have done their whole discography.
Oh please do more TOOL. Not the easiest song to start with but it was fun to watch! Welcome to the spiral. TOOL Army checking in.
The text you read was a line rom ''Lateralus'' actually. ''The Patient'' is definitely not the most ''beginner friendly'' of their songs. And i guess TOOL is sort of an aquired taste. Ear and brain hava to adapt a bit to their style of music. i had my struggle with it at first too. But man, was it worth the effort to dive into it. I hope you can enjoy the ride. As i did finally. 💎
Even as an early fan, _Ænima_ threw me for a loop. A couple of songs, I got into easily, but the rest of the album took multiple listenings to start to appreciate. The more listens I got, the more I began to love it. It was a lesson I took forward when later albums came out. I was more open to not being immediately hooked by a song, knowing it would sometimes take a while to absorb everything going on.
It is indeed a journey and getting to see them live this year was a super fun step!
Welcome to Tool !
I have been to a lot of great concerts in my time, but Tool was on a different level... I walked out saying to myself "WTF did I just experience", it was an awesome experience.
tool is definitely an experience that goes far beyond music... It's like it contains a universe in itself... mathematics, philosophy, poetry, art, harmony, metaphysics......
On a conceptual level, this band creates a perfect fusion between rhythms, lyrics and visual elements that explore the depths of the soul. His lyrics always remain open to
interpretation of the listener, which further enriches this journey into the deeps of his universe..........next song should be "Forty-six and 2."
My favourite part of Tool is that every member has a solo.
My other favourite part of Tool is how they all play their solo at the same time
Welcome to the music of Tool! So many songs from this band to experience. Also if you enjoy Maynard's voice, he's in two other bands that are equally as amazing: A Perfect Circle and Puscifer
Maynard's vocals on this song is so touching, it's not my favorite song by them but his vocals are just beautiful here.
And takes some time to digest Tool songs, and when the process completes, Tool becomes your new religion. They are something else completely.
You did a great job with a very deep and complicated song, even for Tool. I'd love to see you react to The Pot, it'll be much easier on your brain I promise
You just stumbled upon one of the greatest bands in the world! Enjoy!
Maynard James Keenan in my opinion, is the most underrated rock vocalist. He doesn’t really get brought up that often but his versatility is amazing! He can do soft spoken vocals, to just great singing, to heavy vocals! Not many other singers have his range
He has unmatched talent in my humble opinion!
Basically there's him and Mike Patton
U underrated? Everyone loves Maynard
Do more tool you explain it very well. Its music to its purest form!
literally the first time i hear any tool song im like wtf is this noise, then a week later its my favourite song haha.
TOOL is the rabbithole everyone should stumble down into. ❤
I am a huge Tool fan. I am 20 now and they actually shaped my music taste so much. When I was 13 I listened to Schism for the first time and that song is the reason I bought a bass and an electric guitar. This band is amazing, The Patient and Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned are my favourite songs
It's hard to pick a favorite tool song, but the ones about his mother hit home the most.
Wings for Marie and 10000 days hits so hard bro
The way you’re describing your feelings about this song is EXACTLY the reason tool fans love this music! It’s definitely not background music it requires a certain amount of concentration from the listener and if you do that you’ll be rewarded with a musical orgasm of sorts.
I am a MEGAFAN of Tool. I’m not sure how much you’ve heard of them, but to me it appears that you haven’t heard them much. Keep trying on the songs. They are all masters of their craft. After hearing a few of the right songs (for you), you will become hooked. Tool is something you dive into. Before long, you’ll be looking into their lyrics, their timing, their vibe. Here are just a few to check out among many, many, MANY Tool songs.
Sober
Pneuma
Vicarious
Opiate
Schism
The rabbit hole runs deep if you dare to chase the rabbit. Good luck my friend! :)
You picked my favorite song by these living legends 🔧Thanks again ❤great reaction...
their music heals and helps open your third eye, that's why it hurts 😀 descending is fun,
there's never a tool song too long
It's spiritual!....It vibrates something different in you!!!
Tool very rarely follows that formulaic song layout that you described. Pay if the appeal for me is that one you do learn the cadence of the song and anticipate the changes of tempo and drops, it gets so amazing. The Patient is a very interesting place to start the journey.
You have to do the song lateralus, now that you are familiar with the lyrics
What you are feeling when hearing this song is exactly what the song is trying to convey, the tedium of being a perpetual medical patient, and trying to hold out hope for it to resolve in a positive way
Tool is more of an experience than a band. Continue down the rabbit hole- a ton of amazing music ahead. Spiral Out...
Alex Grey is the artist that Tool got to create the album cover and a few other images.
Check out the temple he created
Finally Tool!! Been waiting on this!! Enjoy the ride my friend and Merry Christmas
More Tool please!!!! These guys have been showing other rock and metal bands how to do it for 30+ years. Their music is such a journey. VERY HIGH level musicians!
Crazy for this to be the first tool song you ever listened to. Definitely more accessible stuff out there to get you started
I’m so excited for you. I wish I could experience tool for the first time again.
Nice Reaction. Perhaps my fav tool song.
Starting Tool on Hard Mode. Bravo, don't get discouraged, their musical talent can't be denied.
One of the best songs tool has crafted
Welcome to Tool. Check out the track Lateralus, and make sure it's a lyrics video to get full appreciation. It's a wild journey.
brace for tool army incoming!
Welcome to tool, you will love your journey x
One of my favorite T00L songs. Spiral out!!! Keep going 🌀
You really jumped right in the deep end with no floaties on this one. Good job. More dammit!
Merry Christmas, Beautiful Rachel
Will be back for more Tool!
Welcome! “That’s heavy!” You certainly have the tool-face! Keep going!
Glad to see a reaction to this song. Its one of my faves that hits home. Does not get enough attention like the others. Too bad you read the wrong lyrics. :p ty nevertheelss
Great reaction! Please more Tool!
Pneuma and Right in Two .. are my two favorite songs by Tool .. thanks for this reaction Ray
Great reaction! Do more tool!
Curious on other reactions to tool
Subbed.
This is an interesting choice for your first Tool song, and reading the wrong lyrics to boot...I can understand feeling overwhelmed. But you've taken your first steps into a larger world. I want to see you react to more progressive metal and watch your brain melt 😆
welcome to the TOOL rabbit hole... this will be a musical journey, so glad you can experience it... hear parabol/parabola, The Pot, 46 & 2..... I love this reaction...
More Tool please, and enjoy your journey now that you've found them. :)
Tool are my favourite band in the world because they are not like other bands and their music is not like other music, it takes you somewhere else and challenges you musically and lyrically. They are just the most interesting, intriguing and musically perfect band ive ever heard and while you kind of jumped in at the deep..ish end ...plz try to react to more ...your ears and brain will thank you for it.....Spiral out...
Ah, nice to see your first tool experience. :D Thanks for sharing it with us! It is a great and unique band. They surely don't follow classic song structure and also their changing time signatures can mess with the brain a bit. There are many cool compositions, I'd recommend "Right in Two", "46&2", "Lateralus" (which the lyrics were from that you read, not the patient, but nevermind that). More tool would be nice for sure.
I’d love to see more Tool on your channel 😊
Finally you start the Tool journey! More please! This is just the very tip of the iceberg.
Welcome to the rabbit hole... This is definitely one of their more underrated tunes, best enjoyed with the Eon Blue Apocalypse intro. Have fun and enjoy your journey! Gonna wait it out...
Initiating Tool Army….3,2,1….
You've made it to the rabbit hole!
Tool is a very deep pool of music to access; not only in terms of the lyrics and vocals of Maynard James Keenan, but from the plethora of poly-rhythms on display. Their music makes your brain think trying to wrap your head around what is going on at first; however, that is also what makes it so fun and engaging to listen to. In terms of starters for Tool some of the comments have already mentioned it but "The Pot" is another really good starting song to get introduced to the band, "Sober" is very interesting too especially if you like Maynard's vocals, also "Rosetta Stoned" (That one keeps you on your toes a lot, though its definitely a fun listen).
Lateralus is a must listen...love your reaction videos
You have the infallible ability to stop at the most pivotal parts of the song, at the climaxes 😂 just kiddin'...great reaction.
Start this album from the first song, listen to it start to finish. You will experience every emotion, and even some new ones.
More Tool !! this band is a hidden gem
Every song is a an adventure
Wizards of sonics and lyrics! 🔥🔥🔥
What a song, brilliant, especially on a worthy sound system.
This isn't the greatest Tool tune to start off with if you've never really listened to them before, amazing as it is. If you're gonna keep doing Tool songs, which would definitely increase your subs BTW, I'd start off with "Vicarious", "46&2", or "The Pot". They have a bit more of the standard formula for songs you mentioned. Notice the tension and release elements in this one though, almost as if it was a resolution when you listen to the lyrics. Definitely not your typical cookie-cutter band.
even lateralus
Tool is next level music. It'll get you hooked for sure!
I love watching Tool fans being born. Young lady, keep listening, you have no idea the wondeful journey you are about to embark on.
Getting restless and nervous from a song about patience.
Welcome to Tool and Spiral out :)
More of tool please🔥
If you like the artwork, buy the cd and page through the book. Brilliant packaging:artwork.
I think the word you’re looking for is spiraling out
Awesome reaction! Thank you for sharing it! Tool has been my favorite band for many years. You are right when you say that they're unlike anyone else. No one else does what they do. The Pink Floyd observation was quite accurate. There are elements of them in Tool along with bands like King Crimson, Rush, and other Progressive Rock legends. Tool is sort of what happens when you mix Progressive Rock with Metal. Not quite knowing what to make of them at first is normal. It usually takes people a few songs to (for lack of a better term) learn how to listen to Tool. They use complex time signatures and other unconventional music mathematics. I would definitely encourage you to check out more of their work. My suggestions would be Pneuma, Lateralus, Pushit, Forty Six & 2, The Pot, Right in Two, and Descending. Those are just some suggestions. You really can't go wrong with these dudes. Each member of the band is a top notch musician and infinitely creative. I am glad you have come into the world of Tool. This is just the entrance to the rabbit hole of you dare to come in. Spiral out!
P.s. The lyrics you read were from the song Lateralus. The Patient is track 2 of the Lateralus album. The title track, Lateralus, is track 9 and was my favorite song for years until Pneuma finally overtook it by a nanometer.🤘🤘
There is no music like Tool, they're a category of their own.
I listen to this on repeat anytime I'm waiting around in a hospital
i understand that, in a world where 15 second tiktok clips reign supreme, a younger person might feel frustrated for not being able to focus their attention for seven minutes straight on a piece of music.
The songs are created by the band doing all the instrumentals and then turning the music to the lead singer Maynard James Keenan and he adds vocals and lyrics to complete the song. The band is master musicians that create different feelings from their instruments, drums, guitars and vocals
the ,,grudge" cool song!
This is your first tool song? Wow 😮 welcome to the TOOL army
Interesting choice for an introduction to Tool. These guys are THE VERY BEST BAND I have ever heard in my life, my absolute favourite, and they are unlike ANYTHING ELSE out there. They are NOT a band for you to just pick up casually, or jump in the deep end and hope you can swim, along, it is a heady and very complex experience and something you really have to COMMIT to. But the rewards are very great indeed. Also, you didn't really pick the best track to start with, there are others whcih are a better anchor-point to start your Tool journey (although pretty much EVERY track they've ever done is worth checking out) ... The Pot is probably the very best one to really get a grounded hold of what they're about, although The Grudge, Forty Six & Two and Schism would do the job almost as well. Lateralus is the very pinnacle of their talents, with 7empest close behind, but these are both VERY serious pieces of truly intricate work that really do a number on your brain, so it's NOT a good ide to just jump on them cold, better to gety to know Tool first and then work your way up to them.
Agree 💯
I'm here for ur TOOL reactions! EVERY one of their songs is a different experience/journey for the listener, that being said every one of their songs is definately a "roller coaster" as u say, but epic! Try "Ænima" it's beautifully chaotic
Tool is an awesome journey. My favorite Maynard vocal is with another band of his called A Perfect Circle. He does a cover of Joni Mitchell's "The Fiddle and The Drum,"
Maynard writes his lyrics to the song. He said he wants his voice to flow with the music.
This is my favorite Tool song the song Eon Blue Apocalypse leads into this song very well highly recommend to listen to that before the song.
Spiral out, keep going 🌀
Toooooollllll it's COOOOOL🔥
You just heard "The patient"by Tool and read the lyrics of "Lateralus"by Tool.
